For a lot less money, you can buy a bic lighter- and it will stay lit longer.

Great Price & Performance
I was able to buy this model on Amazon for about $70 in March.

The unit is large, but is light-weight and looks good in any room.The HEPA filter does a wonderful job of cleaning the air.Our apartment is fairly old and does not have good air circulation, which resulted in isolated areas of mold growth during the winter.After a month of continuous use (low during day, quiet at night), the air smells significantly better and there have been no occurences of mold growth in areas where we ran the air purifier.The ionizer feature does a good job of restoring an ion balance to the room, and is easy to turn on and off separately from the fan.I've read that it's important to not operate an ionizer for more than 2-3 hours per day, so it was important for me to find a purifier with a separately-controlled ionizer.

Replacement filters costs between $28-$40 online, depending on where you look.I plan on replacing the filter every three months.

In all, I strongly recommend this air purifier based on its attractive price and performance.

Attractive Whtie Air Filter
The Delonghi DAP 130 arrived with the delicate front grill slightlydented. Iwas able to pull it back out with a paper clip to restore its attractive modern look.The machine operates well at 4 speeds including a barely audible "sleep" setting. I like the higher settings for the white noise effect in my office. Its hard to know how well it filters the air without a professional testing lab. I haven't been able to find other reviews regarding its efficacy. Mine was a gift and didn't come with an instruction manual so I don't know why there is a separate switch for the ionizer. Very effective - I have two of them
My son always woke up stuffy in the morning and - not knowing anything about air cleaners - began looking at their stats.This unit seemed to be the best in terms of circulating air and cleaning the air.Its not a flashy looking unit but it worked so well I bought a second unit for downstairs...

I have had the first one for over 6 months and even with almost constant use it works as well as it did the first day.The second one is everal months newer and that one has been problem free as well.

I will say the unit it fairly large - it usually doesnt go unoticed in a room.That said...its not the size of a building or anything like that...but it is larger than some units.I have it fairly out of the way in one room but in my sons room, being a smaller room, its more obvious.

About noise:Its not a silent unit.The units that claim to be silent are not cleaners but ionizers and their effctiveness according to consumer reports is doubtful.I also looked at them when I was buying...but they did mention to clean the unit if you notice *arcing*...arcing is what happens when you put metal in a microwave.Perhaps the chance of this happening are low but it was a definite minus in my book...they also do not filter the air.

As far as this unit and noise; there is noise but it is of the white noise variety.On high you would have to turn up a TV, on low its easier to forget your hearing it, it becomes background and I find it to drown out outside noise.I like it.And after the first few days of running it on high I mostly keep it on low - except after dusting or cleaning the room.

This is an excellent unit and after running it a few days, take a look at the filter.You will be glad you got it.What it collects is impressive.I will probably buy one more in the near future for a second bedroomm

I love Vornado products....
I use the Vornado AQS35 filter systems and they are fabulous. We have two filter systems, one in the "bird" room where I keep my Cockatiels (and my computer), and the other upstairs near our bedrooms.The bird room is clean as can be and at the end of the day when I clean cages I only sweep up spilled pellets and seeds.I have never been bothered by Cockatiel or any other bird dander since I got the Vornado filter systems, and I have allergies. My office supplied a less effective filtration system, so I notice the air quality right away when I arrive at work.Don't give up your bird, get an air filtration system from Vornado.

Oh yes, they are quiet.The system makes a comforting sound, something like the distant roar of the ocean when you are at the beach, so your sleep will not be disturbed if you have one in your bedroom. In fact, I often think of it as "white" noise for street noises. As one other reviewer said, they are perfect for city living (I live right under the National Airport flyway), but will work with pollen, mold and mildew particles in the country.

Perfect for City Environment
Works great, but also generates enough white noise to drown out street noise and neighbors.If you live in a city, and have trouble sleeping; try using this air filter.

Love it!
It is a loud machine but it's great for me because I live on a noisy street and it blocks out all the other sounds so I can sleep at night! It works great too, and it's small in size and not heavy, so when I have people over that smoke I move it to the living room or wherever we are and it completely eliminates the smell.

Nice machine, but too loud
I just purchased all three Vornado air filters: the AQS15, AQS25, and the AQS35. All have the same basic design, and the higher the model number, the larger the size. The AQS25 and 35 deserve five stars: good design, and quiet operation. The AQS15, however, has one major problem. It is loud. On its lowest setting (of the three speeds it has), it is as loud as either of its bigger siblings on their highest settings! The AQS15 is so loud that I personally can't stand to be in the same room with it. An air filter should be seen and not heard. I don't know why it is so loud, possibly because of its small size and the huge volume of air that it moves. I own other Vornado products, such as their heater, fans, and humidifier. This is the first time Vornado has disappointed me.

Bottom line: if you want a *quiet*, high quality HEPA air filter, get the AQS25 or 35. The AQS25 is the best buy for the money. On the other hand, if you don't mind having a filter that sounds like an old fashioned 9-horsepower box fan, then get the AQS15. Horrible! Broke after ONE WEEK!
I bought this just one week ago. It barely worked in the first place, my room is an EXTRMELY tiny room, so I figured that a unit this size would work very well. Wrong. I have a pet mouse in here, and it still smelled even with the unit running 24/7. My allergies weren't any better after using this unit either. Then, after just one week of working (or lack there of), the motor went out! It quit blowing air, and then all it did was sit there and make a loud humming sound. I called where I got it from and they said I could send it back. I'll send it back alright, and but I will NOT be getting another one. I'll go with another brand.

Unit works well, but has it's problems.
I originally purchased my first BAP825-U from Best Buy.About 3 weeks later I had to exchange it as the oscillating motor started to make a very loud clicking sound and stopped working.The unit that replaced it worked extremely well for the past 5 months. Just recently the oscillating motor on this unit stopped working as well.The filtration is functioning just fine, however it is much more effective when the oscillating feature is working.I smoke, and started to notice the smell of smoke more in my home recently.I checked the filters and they were in dire need of replacement, however the filter change indicator light never came on.Overall, I've been very happy with this unit up until now.In my opinion, the placement of the oscillating motor is just poor engineering, and without it the unit is less effective.If you do purchase, be sure to send in your warranty card to Bionaire, which I'm currently kicking myself for not doing....

"Quiet Operation"???SURE...
I got this unit from Best buy yesterday, so don't look at this as a long-term usage review.It seems like a nice enough unit, but I chose it over the others at best Buy because I read on the box that "advanced motor and fan blade design provide for quiet operation on any speed".Um, they must have hearing impaired people testing these out in the factory, because I can't get truly "quiet operation" on any speed other than low.

I was amazed when I turned it on and could no longer hear the sound on the videogame I was playing at the time.It was on the high setting, so I switched it to the lowest setting.It was much better, but then it's also doing less for me.When on the ghigh setting, this thing sounds like you're running five microwaves at once.I expected nearly SILENT operation...perhaps even "on any speed"?This unit did not deliver what it advertised.

Overall, it's a good product, but they should not advertise "quiet operation on any speed".That's a flat-out lie!

It worked for my son!
My 4 yr old son has terrible dust mite allergies.He was ssooo congested every night and could not sleep well (he slept w/ his mouth open & snored). We tried everything suggested by the allergist:I dusted, I vacuumed, I washed bed sheets/blankets, took out the stuffed animals, used the right pillow covers and mattress covers.We tried OTC allergy medications and prescription medications.THEN we purchased this air filter for his room.Amazing ... he sleeps through the night peacefully, nasal passages clear.I'd give this air cleaner 5 stars except for the fact that there is a slight odor in his room from it (probably just because its new ... its that kind of smell) and it does tend to warm his room up slightly w/ it running all night long, so I keep our a/c turned down a bit more at night now. But for the price, I'd recommend it to anyone suffering from allergies to give it a try.

Not sure how this one works??
I bought an 825U, for my home office.(I also own two of the BAP-1175 units, which I LOVE.)The 825 looks very sleek, and fits perfectly where I need it to go.But here's my concern with it:the room air is drawn in the back, and clean air is blown out the front -- which seems to me that the unit would be blowing the room air away from itself, effectively keeping most of the room air from being drawn into the filter.(??)The natural spot for this tower design is in a corner, or next to a desk or bookshelf.This puts the intake against the wall, where it doesn't seem to me that it could do very much intaking.Especially if the fans are blowing all the air away from the unit.I called Bionaire, and while they are consistently friendly and helpful, the only suggestion they could give was to place the unit more toward the center of a room.Obviously, that's rarely an option for most people.Maybe I'm thinking too much about all this, but it's something I'd love to get more information on.For now, I returned the 825, and got a second 1175.It takes up more space than the tower, but is a more effective purifying unit in my consumer-level opinion.

Best I've reviewed, evaluated
I've reviewed and tried several home humidifiers and find the model 7133 a strong contender for 'best of breed'.Since I use it in the bedroom, it had to be very quiet; which the 7133 is.It holds about 2 gallons of water which on a mid-setting both for the humidistat and the output control keeps the room (about 15' x 15') at 40% humidity (quite comfortable).On filling of 2 gallons (slightly less since the filter takes up a bit of room) runs for 24 hours at this setting.Since I only use in the evenings when I'm home, it lasts for 2 days.It also seemed to me that if you want a humidifier with a larger capacity, that it gets pretty heavy lugging that much water.2 gallons seemed like a good compromise volume.

The filter has to be changed every 3-4 months,depending upon frequency and length of use.The unit comes with 1 filter. The silver stick that also comes with it, controls bacterial growth for up to a year. Materials and constructions are of excellent quality.

I checked out several reviews of the product; looked at an older Consumer Reports on humidifiers (it didn't rate this manufacturer), but it's report on other brands didn't really impress me, since so many don't seem to come with a humidistat (an important requirement in my view, since it helps keep the humidity level steady).I purchased it for $134.95 at a local retailer, and on-line prices seem comparable.So far, it appears to be fair traded. I highly recommend this product.

Cool to look at but poor functionality!
Nice sized unit, great design and quiet--but it soaks the floor. Steam did not seam to really humidify the air in a 650 sq. foot bedroom and it actually made us cough worse. Smells very chemicall and is basically one of the $20 style humidifiers with a fancy name and different outer housing. Buy a warm mist instead.

Nice machine, just not worth the $$$$$$
..I ended up returning this unit because the reservoir tank is woefully inadequate. It seemed like I was refilling the thing
3-4 times/day. I think the problem has to do with the demineralizer cartridge, which is big, taking up a lot of surface area inside the tank. They should really put the cartridge somewhere else or make a much bigger tank. I will say that the unit worked well and is very well constructed. I also liked the fact that you don't need those annoying filters that my other unit uses(Vornado) However, I'll stick with the Vornado with it's filters and it's two huge tanks. Good air filter -- I've used Holmes filter for 10-15 years
I bought my first Holmes HEPA air filtering machine more than a decade ago, and have been satisfied enough not to have bought any other brand since then, although I have had four Holmes air filter machines since then.

The first model I bought (I think it was the 220) is apparently discontinued, but it would be no exageration to call it a life-saver.I bought my first one because I lived in a house with a HEAVY chain smoker.Even though rated for only a single small room, that little sucker grabbed enormous amounts of smoke and the white paper on the filter blackened within weeks from particulate cancer-causing material which it saved me from inhaling.The next two filter machines I bought for a house which was infested with black mold.The one closest to the worst mold area blackened very quickly, while the second one, further from the mold, only grayed somewhat in the same time period -- the filter was very obviously cleaning potentially deadly black mold spores from the air.

The model I have now uses the HAPF30 replacement, and it is doing "light duty" compared to the first three I owned.I would have given this five stars except that I have the very distinct impression that this particular filter replacement is less efficient than the earlier ones I owned -- the filter has grayed with use, but I don't have the impression that the color change has been due entirely to grabbing airborne pollutants; I suspect (but don't have any evidence) that the filter is catching carbon which is being blown forward by the fan or else is catching dust which the negative ions generated by the machine itself have caused to fall.

Despite my suspicion that this is less efficient than earlier models, I still rate it four stars because I know that it is filtering SOMETHING out of the air, and I trust the Holmes brand -- they have earned my confidence through many years of arduous work.(I've never experienced any mechanical problems with one, either, until long, long after the warranty has expired.These things are real workhorses.)If the fans on the machines are kept to low settings they are fairly quiet, but at high speed they genrate quite a bit of noise, which can be a blessing in itself since the machine can act as a "white noise" generator to mask *noise* pollution, too. ... I Don't Recommend This Unit
It is pretty quiet and puts out a considerable amount of mist. But there are problems.

1) Despite the fact that it comes with a demineralization cartridge that is supposed to eliminate white dust, there is white dust all over my furniture, and especially electrontic equipment.

2) The unit is designed with many nooks and crannies that make it quite difficult to clean. And you will have to clean it regularly, since brownish gunk accumulates frequently.

3) The opening to fill the water tank is too small to insert a normal sized hand, so it is impossible to wipe clean inside.

4) As other reviewers have noted, a lot of the mist simply falls to the ground around the unit.

5) Do not under any circumstances move the humidifier around while the tank is in place with water in it, or it is very easy for the water to overflow into the air vent and go down inside the base with the electrical components and short them out. This happened to me, and the unit promptly died.

Piece of junk
I bought two of these when my two-month old twins had colds. The best thing I can say about this humidifier is it did help their congestion. Unfortunately, it completely drenches everything (babies, furniture, floor, rugs, etc.). I tried putting down vinyl cloths followed by every blanket and towel I own. Everything is totally drenched in the morning including our laminate floor. The laminate floor is now damaged despite all of our precautions. I went out and purchased the Vicks humidifiers which don't drench everything but don't seem to work very well either. I'm on the search for something else.

had two break on me
I have had two of these units break on me. The first broke within three weeks so I was able to exchange it under the warranty. The new unit then also broke in under three weeks. Its a waste of money and of poor design.

Burned out after 24 hours
Got what we thought was a deal on this unit from WalMart (closeout at $10), too good to be true. Then, when something seems too good to be true...
For the first 24 hours it ran quietly, looked pretty nice. Now it just looks nice, and smells bad (burning electronics smell), and has quit completely.

It's going back today.

I'm VERY Happy With My Holmes Humidifier!!!
I recently purchased this Humidifier (about a month ago) and I have to say overall I'm very happy with it. I haven't had any of the problems other people are saying they had in here except for the soaking of the floor from it. I raised the humidifier about 6 to 7 feet from the ground (placed it on a shelf) and since then it hasn't wet the floor. From my experience, all Ultrasonic Humidifiers that shoot mist wet everything under it. I also have a Sumbeam 701 that does the same thing BUT overall I'm very happy with that also. Works Great...Easy to Replace...Order Early
The "Bionaire A1260C Carbon Replacement Filters" are for use for several models of the Bionaire Air Cleaners(see editorial review for model numbers). I have the Bionaire BAP1175 Quietech Hepa Air Cleaner(which by the way is a fabulous product in itself).

My air cleaner works on a 3 filter system. The first removes the larger particles from the air(it may be washed) Next,this one, is a carbon filter(very easy to install and remove) that traps odors. This works great. The carbon filter does a good job of removing dog smells, smoke and cooking odors as well. It is recommended to change these filters(there are 2) every 3-6 months(it may not be washed).These filters are fairly inexpensive to replace.The instruction manuel says you will know when to replace it, as "odor removal effectiveness will be noticeably reduced". That is exactly how I knew when to change my filters.Running it almost constantly, it was just short of the 3 months that I noticed they needed to be changed, but I attribute that to the house being closed up all summer with the A/C on. And by the way, after replacing the filters,on which I could also see all the dust they filtered, I noticed the difference within minutes!(even with the dog in the house). They are simple to change(I can finally do something I don't have to ask the menfolk to help with), and they come four in a pack, so your all set for the next time. They come in a plastic resealable bag and advise to keep the spares sealed up to maintain freshness. When I ordered, I noticed that they took just a little longer then the other items, so order early.

Oh and for those interested in the Hepa Air Cleaner Model BAP1175...the third filter is the hepa filter..This is already in the machine on arrival. This filter, according to the manuel, removes 99.97% of particulate as small as 0.3 microns in size. It filters smoke, dust, pollen mold spores, pet dander and "some" bacteria. And I believe it. Now these filters are quite a bit more expensive to replace, but they last quite a while, somewhere between 12-24 months. And you will know exactly when to replace it, because there is a great feature, a digital read out of how much filter life is left.After nearly 3 months mine still has about 87% life left. Can't beat the price
I was skeptical about ion air purifiers in general and did not want to spend $150 plus to check them out. For this price, it was worth trying. I read the reviews here first and admit I was afraid of receiving a faulty unit. I decided to try it anyway since the price sounded good. The first day it was running in our bedroom, it accumulated a significant amount of dust. It works in a good sized room even though it is a small unit. We did notice a very low "zzt"-type sound after two weeks (even though it was cleaned), but all in all it is still very quiet and we sleep very well. If I'd received a non-working item, I'm sure I'd have a different review here. But it was worth the risk to me and now I'm interested in purchasing another one.

Love it!
First I boght one of these... used it for one day and checked the collection plates and they had a nasty black film on them that was probably a good 1/16th of an inch thick... cleaned it off... same thing every day... So I bought a second one... I just recieved my THIRD one today as I love these things so much. The quality of air around here must be awful because I have these all in the same room and they are collecting gobs of stuff every day. AWESOME!!!

Not a good product
This worked, although I never saw much at all on the filter, for a few months before it started emitting a high pitched noise. I can't leave it on anymore because the noise is terrible. I don't recommend this.

Ionizer failure
This unit ran for one month and died.....waiting for response from manufacturer as to options to repair and or replace.

Great for smaller spaces
I hardly sneeze anymore, so I know this little sucker is working. It also adds a nice ozonic scent to the air. One day, when the price comes down on the substantial ionizers, I'll get one. But for now, this one fits the bill. ... Read more
