5-0 out of 5 stars Makita 6932FDWDEX 14.4V Impact Driver Kit with L.E.D. Light
This is unlike any other tool out there. Using this impact driver reminds me of my first Makita cordless drill some 20 years ago ( 7.2 volt or something like that). It changed the way I worked, and so does this impact driver. Stripped out screw heads are a thing of the past with this awesome tool. The bonus driver drill is nicely balanced and works like a Makita should, all day long. I've used the impact driver to build decks, put in tech screws, and install lag bolts. I wish I had one of these babies years ago. The LED light is perfect for us old timers.
A must have for any builder/carpenter/auto body mechanic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Optimal Design
The first thing I noticed about the driver when I snapped the battery in was how much lighter it was than my friend's Dewalt.

Of course, that made me nervous as light = cheap. My paranoia was increased when I pulled the trigger and found that not only was it quieter than the Dewalt, but the reactionary force from the spinning motor felt much diminished as well.

For some reason, all of these things gave me a foreboding until I started working with it.The impacting action was the same and the screws flew into the deck I was building almost as fast as the Dewalt.I slowly began to realize that the lighter weight made the work much more tolerable, even though I never considered the Dewalt as "heavy."

Both the drill and the driver also have handy do-dads that probably should have been included in cordless drills since their invention, such as the drill-bit holders on the base of the drill, and the LED on the driver.I thought the light was a bit superfluous, but there I was tacking-in posts for a front porch and was glad it was there to light up the dark corners.

As I said before, the Dewalt is a little faster, but it's also heavier, the batteries don't last nearly as long, the handle isn't nearly as comfortable to hold while operating, and it doesn't have the LED, which will of course seem preposterous until you need it.

    five stars, all the way.

5-0 out of 5 stars kicks butt!
What an incredible tool- This thing drives lags and long screws without the effort or stripping of a drill. The free drill bonus made it a no brainer. The 2 NIMH batteries last for extremely long periods even under extreme duty. The compact size, light weight and worklight all add up to making this the go to tool for all your driving needs!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very compact, battery lasts a long time
I use this driver every month to fabricate wood handicap ramps, 3" deck screws into treated lumber. No need to push it hard, just enough to keep the bit engaged. Far fewer stripped screw heads than with regular drills, corded or cordless. The battery has plenty of charge; I have not had to wait for the second battery to finish charging before swapping it in.
This is a very strong driver - there is NOT a clutch as you find on drill drivers. In soft wood, the screw head just keeps sinking further into the wood. In hard wood, the screw head will twist off if driven too far. It IS somewhat noisy when the impact feature engages, so you may want to consider ear plugs for continuous use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars very good quality product
Used the DW059K cordless impact for rotating tires on a vehicle changing brackets on a farm tractor and screwing lag bolts on a garage door, still have not recharged the battery. Very flexible power tool sure beats starting up the air compresser or plugging in a corded impact wrench. Highly recommend this product and as with all the Dewalt tools that I have purchased the high quality is top notch. This cordless impact will last a long time. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Loads of power, but is that enough to make the big leage?
We use this driver for running in ½ x 12 lag bolts through pilings. This putts a lot of stress on a driver. The DeWalt has more then enough power to handle this and all lesser tasks. I have used several hammer drivers and hammer drills in my business, this is truly the undisputed "Power King"; however, after running hundreds of lags and screws I encountered a few shortcomings with the DeWalt:\

    1. On two of these drivers the anvil (hammer thingy) inside stripped out in less then 3 months. On the plus side, DeWalt replaced them, no questions asked.

    2. It a nightmare to get inside and replace the brushes on the work site. Combine that with the reluctance of our rep. to even get the brushes addes up to sending them in for R&R (repair and rebuild) at the cyclic rate. Time = money. I still don't know if the brushes can be replaced, how to do it, or if that is even the problem. I suspect it is due to a small amount of graphite looking dust around the air exhaust vents after long use.

All in all, not bad for hundreds of BIG lags, but to put it into perspective, we also use Makita 24 volt hammer drivers. These have run thousands of big lags with no problems at all! The Makita brushes are a few bucks for a pack and can be replaced in a minute.
My bottom line is: Get the DeWalt for lower production work that needs lots of power, but if you have your driver turning day on stay on, you might want to consider a Makita hammer driver in the 18 - 24 volt range.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than i expected!
I own a few Dewalt tools so i have a lot of experience with the
quality of the brand and I am more than impressed with this impact drill. It drives self tappers in 3/16" steal with no problem. If your in the market for a light weight
impact with lots of power this is the ticket. ... Read more

A drill/driver is a great tool, but not for every application, unless of course you consider stripped screws part of the charm of doing it yourself. Some jobs simply need the added muscle only an impact driver can provide, and the 14.4-volt cordless DeWalt DW054K-2 is one impact driver worth a look. At first glance, the DeWalt driver looks a little weak. After all, it measures only 6-1/2 inches and weighs just 4.1 pounds. But don't let appearances fool you. Under that slight exterior beats the heart of a champ. The driver produces an amazing 1,150 in./lbs. of maximum torque, making it ideal for even the toughest jobs and the tightest applications, where comparable drivers simply couldn't reach. The unit features an all-metal transmission, a durable magnesium gear case and an all-metal quick release chuck that accepts 1/4-inch hex shank bits. A textured, anti-slip comfort grip provides ultimate comfort and stability. A specially designed impacting mechanism reduces kickback -- and fatigue. And a variable-speed trigger switch with electric brake means better overall control.--Carl Thress ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt's DW054 14.4v Impact Driver
I have used a few impact drivers in my day. Just recently I purchased the new 14.4v Impact for work. I am very impressed with it power and vesatility. I just hope I can stop myself from using it all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sudden Impact
This summer I decided to build three decks and install a three-rail fence around my property. These projects require a lot of fastening with 3 inch deck screws. I used my drill/driver for my first deck and my wrists were hurting from the torquing action. I received my impact driver and put it to use immediately. The Dewalt impact driver drives these screws quickly and effortlessly and I've tossed my drill/driver aside. I would highly recommend this tool to anyone using a drill to drive-in screws, lag bolts, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars great new technology- what took them so long
i am a 53 year old carpenter-builder who has carried my 18 volt dewalt for several years on my toolbelt (heavy). The batteries are going, my shoulder is going, and i can't get into tight places. The Dewalt impact took care of all the above problems. I took a chance (because there were no real reviews) and bought it -and I love it - you will not believe how small it is!!! Here is some real data - the first day on the job site we were trying it out and we drove ONE (the same one) 3 inch galvanized screw (the kind that strip easy) in and out 6 times without stripping the head (we stopped testing with no sign of stripping but the screw was really hot )- the amazing thing is that the impact is just as helpful backing the screw out.
Hex ended drills are readily available and were tested in wood and 3/8 steel - no problem. (i have only found smaller -1/4'' -high speed bits readily available) The dewalt hex ended spade bit (3/4'') cruised through wood with much less effort than my 18 volt. My only question is how durable it is. Time will tell - but beyond that I am happy as hell with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt Cordless Impact Driver
Okay DeWalt has created another must have tool. It is compact and has the torque for the big driving jobs that would require frequent battery changes or a finish up with a hand wrench. Now be ready and hang on as this will drive 99% or our needs for heavy torque jobs. See model DW055K-2 for the 1/2" driver output. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best tool in 2 decades!
Being a door installer, I ordered this tool as soon as it came out. Awesome! Drives hinge screws in with no problem. Drills up to 1/4" bits without impacting. Where was this tool 5 years ago? My 18v drills are semi-retired, who needs a corded drill now. An earlier reviewer said he had problems finding hex drill bits. Most home improvement stores carry them in sets and you can sharpen them accurately with a Drill Doctor sharpening system when they dull. But as always we want more speed, can't get enough. I'm sure that with 2 brands out now that are faster, Dewalt will step up to the plate and deliver the knockout punch, til the next round at least. You can't go wrong with this one. Get one today.....

    5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing !
Being a DeWalt tool owner I decided (for charging reasons) to stick with them. This tool is awsome!I tried driving a screw right through a 2x4 didn't slow it down !Any one doing electrical work with greenlee knockout punches(slug busters)get the 1/2 socket adapter for the inpact driver put a 1" socket on it and make some holes on electrical boxes !It goes so fast I don't dread using the slugbusters anymore. It is getting so I rarely use my 18v drill except to drill, not to drive screws anymore !

5-0 out of 5 stars One wasn't enough!!
In my company we do alot of weatherstripping installs and we remove AC vents and replace them after working on the ducting. I am obsessed with tools if it is out there I have to have it. Usually I will have it within a week of its release, most of my tools are Dewalt, but honestly they do not make all tools up to par. In this case I do not have a problem with buying a different brand to get the best for the job. This being said I bought the first impact that hit the home improvement store in my area charged it up on the way to the jobsite so I could try it out. I was impressed right away so I let others on my crew use it to see what they thought roughly twenty people had tried it by the end of the day on the charge of the two batteries. On seeing these results I decided that this was the tool of choice for our business and went to buy a few more. Upon arriving at the home center they were out so I had to order them. After talking to the crew several said they would like to have an impact themselves. So I went and ordered twelve more impacts and none of the crew have been disappointed with the tool. A month went by are our crew had increased in size as did the amount of work and so I went and ordered fourteen more impacts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost a complete drill replacement
As a proffesional contractor who relies on my tools to feed my family I have to say this tool is a winner. I was introduced to it by a finish carpenter who had been using one he got as a gift. It has almost replaced my regular heavy 18v drill. the hex bits work great, but beware of breaking them easily. Also the hex drill bits can not be resharpened easily. Between this tool and the Dewalt 7.2v screwdriver, I have gone from using my big 18v drill daily to less than weekly. I love this tool for setting and removing tapcon screws in concrete!!! nothing is better!! I also discovered that by placing a soft brass rotarly brush in it, it is a wonderful tool to cleen off wood, concrete, and sidding. I used to have my assistant clean the concrete splatters off of sidding until I discovered this. Now instead of taking the better part of a hour to clean a porch, it is done in less than 10 minutes and usually less than 5. Time is money and this tool saves time in a big way. The only major downside is the cost of hex accesories and the quality of them. You will definitely get what you pay for in them, so don't scrimp and buy the cheapies. Especially screwdriver bits, they break too easy and you'll just end up going through them faster. I highly recomend using square drive screws with this tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!!!
I have just received mine and it's better than I expected. I initially wanted to buy a Makita, but after countless hours of research, and comparing both specifications, the Dewalt has the Makita beat. More power, faster, lighter, smaller, and in my opinion, much better looking. Also cheaper. ...This is by far my favorite tool. I just wish that I could find drill bits that have 1/4 in. shank. ... If you're looking to add a solid, reliable cordless impact wrench to your tool crib, the heavy-duty, 3/8-inch, DeWalt DW051K-2 12-volt cordless impact wrench might be worth considering. This mid-level impact wrench has everything you'll need to loosen and tighten tough bolts and drive fasteners through metal, concrete and wood surfaces. Plus, it's small enough (6-1/2 inches long and 3.5 pounds) to get into places larger units with comparable features simply cannot reach. But don't let its size fool you. Under that slight exterior beats the heart of a workhorse. The wrench churns out a whopping 1,200 in./lbs. of maximum torque with speeds ranging from 0-2,400 rpm and 0-3,000 bpm. The unit features an all-metal transmission, a durable magnesium gear case and a 3/8-inch hog ring anvil that accepts impact sockets with ease. 4-0 out of 5 stars great tool
I am a professional mechanic and have used many cordless impact drivers. This is the best I have run across. I wish it was 14.4 volt so it would use the same batteries as drill but that is my only complaint. Plenty of power will break non impact sockets and small bolts beware. Lightweight and powerful. I will buy 18volt 1/2" impact in future when funds allow.
    My recomendation BUY IT!

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware from where you purchase this item
Beware of purchasing this or similar items from Amazon. I inadvertently ordered the wrong item and when I went to cancel my order less than 30 minutes later, they said I could not because it was being prepared for shipping. Still is 2 days later by the way. When I went to their return section, they said that this item could not be returned. Why does someone sell you something that cannot be returned to them?? Now I am stuck with an item that cannot be used and cost me a pretty penny to boot or of course I can sell it on Amazon myself, for less and pay the shipping. Go to the stores so you know what you are dealing with. Sure would be nice if they disclosed prior to purchasing that the item can not be returned.

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt 12v Cordless Impact 3/8 drive
This cordless impact is very impressive, not only does it have
100 lbs of torque, it's light weight and compact.

4-0 out of 5 stars Why not an 18-Volt Version DeWalt?
This isn't so much a review about this 12-Volt unit as it is a critique on DeWalts decision not to provide an 18-Volt version to their loyal customers. DeWalt markets their 12V and 14.4V Cordless Impact Wrench Kits, but what about one for their ever popular 18-Volt line??? Personally, I prefer to save and standardize whenever possible, hence my decision to stick with their 18-Volt line of cordless tools. Standardizing to a 18V battery allows all of my batteries to work with all of my cordless tools. The power of their 18V units pack enough strength to handle just about any job. Why not offer that with their 1/2" impact wrench line? Especially when you consider the work an impact wrench does. If DeWalt is testing the market to see if Cordless Impact Wrenches will sell by putting out 12 and 14.4V versions, it would seem the wrong way to go. These tools (Impact Wrenches) aren't the meat and potatoes of tool manufacturer's lines, and I would hate to see DeWalt discontinue making them due to low sales, because of folks like myself who are going to wait for the real tool (an 18V version) to hit the market. ... Heavy-duty work requires a heavy-duty tool. The 14.4-volt, 1/2-inch DeWalt DW055K-2 cordless impact wrench delivers on every front. While deceptively slight in build (the unit measures only 6-1/2 inches in length and weighs just 4.1 pounds), the DeWalt is long on performance, delivering an impressive 1,550 in./lbs. of maximum torque with speeds ranging from 0-2,400 rpm and 0-3,000 bpm. Consequently, it can get into places larger units simply cannot reach, delivering powerful results without the added cumber of an extension cord or oversized frame. Of course, size isn't everything. The DeWalt is also built tough throughout, with an all-metal transmission, a durable magnesium gear case and a 1/2-inch hog ring anvil that accepts impact sockets with ease. A textured, anti-slip comfort grip provides ultimate comfort and stability. A specially designed impacting mechanism reduces kickback -- and fatigue. And a variable-speed trigger switch with electric brake means better overall control.--Carl Thress ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Only rating it against my other screw guns
I've used the DeWalt 18 volt driver/hammer drill for years, and I really have thought it was a good product. I once dropped my drill from a second story and after it bounced a few times it still worked, so I've been convinced that the DeWalt product was a decent brand.

I recently got this 14.4 impact and have loved using it. It's lighter than the 18 volt I'm used to and easy to handle. It drives long screws no problem. There are no dials to turn, no speeds to set and the battery seems to last a long time. I've used it for setting electrical finish, which takes a light touch, to drilling holes in stucco with a masonary bit (doing what I normally would have used the "hammer drill" function for).

I do know carpenters that swear by the Makita impact driver, so I can't compare brand to brand, but if you've always used a normal driver drill and haven't yet tried out the impact driver, you're in for a treat. It really does a much better job.

And to think, I used a Yankee back in the day, and I'm not that old,,,,,well ok, I'm pushing forty, but still, I cut my teeth with a Yankee screwdriver,,,,,how far things have come.

2-0 out of 5 stars Consider other brand
I would only recommend this tool to someone who uses it for home. I am a contractor whom owns numerous Dewalt cordless tools and am disappointed in most. I own the 14v and the 12v impacts, and in a matter of 6 months of daily use they have both burned up arbors. The batteries will not keep a charge close to origional. B&D service centers have repaired both under warrenty, but they will not admit to any design flaw. "Heavy Duty", I don't think so.

3-0 out of 5 stars tom; carpenter
this dewalt impact drill spins faster and has more power for driving screws into concrete or steel but the batteries last only half the time as my makita 12 volt impact.so i use my makita mostly cause i dont have time to be changing batteries every 15 minutes..

    5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt DW055K-2 1/2" 14.4-Volt Cordless Impact Wrench
This thing works great. It is powerful enough to install/remove lug nuts and is easy enough to use in jobs where you might normally use a 3/8" ratchet setup. I bought it to speed up the job of assembling new boat trailers at a marina. No hose to drag around, fast speed, and small size makes it perfect for a job that has many bolts to be tightened but are spread out. With it we can assembly about 3-4 trailers on one battery. Each trailer involves loosening and then tightening about 16 3/8 self-locking nuts (which are hard to turn before they are tight) and then the 10 lug nuts, which are at close to 100 LB-ft. The first test I did when I got it was to remove the lug nuts off our truck, which had not been touched for two years. It did it but just barely. It is not the big brute for high torque, but it is compact and handy. My only gripe is the sockets are held on too tight by the retention pin, maybe as it wears it will release easier.

5-0 out of 5 stars Throw away your other cordless screwguns
I have many other 12 and 18 volt DeWalt tools. This impact wrench may not replace a compressor and air impact wrench for cars but it sure drives screws and bolts easier than all other screwguns. It makes light work of driving a 3" screw in hard maple without predrilling. It will not bust your nuckles when driving the big screws in hard woods. It dimples drywall beautifully. I will take this over any screwgun of any make. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing tool
This is an excellant impact wrench. I have been a garage door installer for many years. I can easily spend most of the day with this tool in my hand and its performance is unmatched. Our company has put these impacts to the test. They are frequently dropped from ladders, but keep on working. When repairs are needed, they are easy to do and the parts are even easier to order (from Milwaukee). I even use it for those really tight lug nugs on trucks. The rocker switch is a must. Sometimes the pin doesn't want to let go a the socket, but with a little persuation it comes right off. Overall, excellant tool, great performance, and amazing durability. Milwaukee impacts are just the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars an awesome tool
This is a great tool, made well and packaged well. It is heavy and it is certainly not cheap, but it works, and works well.

I use it on my track car. Just jack up the car and zip-zip-zip-zip-zip the wheel is off. It has no clutch mechanism to limit the torque, but I use a "torque stick" to keep the torque at spec. With the torque stick, it's also zip-zip-zip-zip-zip and the wheel is back on.

I've changed all four wheels several times on a couple of cars, all off of a single charge on the battery. It almost seems like overkill that it comes with a spare.

It has a smart charger, so it charges fast but you can leave the battery on the charger if you like, to always keep one fresh.

The blown plastic case is also solid, with metal overcenter cam latches. I have no qualms about throwing it in the trunk with a bunch of other tools -- it will be safe and sound when I open it up again.

This tool is not cheap, and it is much heavier than an air wrench would be. It is also bulky -- don't expect to use it in tight quarters. But if you don't have an air compressor, or you have one but you need a portable tool, this is the one you want.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First thing I did with the #9079 after I charged the batteries
was tried to take a tire off my car, as Emeril would say "BAM"
it busted the lug nuts with ease, "BAM" it put em back on with ease.

I have owned this for about a year and it does everthing promised and more, when battery technology hits us in 2004
we will have better batteries for our 18v tools and then look out this thing will go all day.

    Get this tool.............

Best thing I can say is it works and works and keeps on working!
I have had my Milwaukee 18-volt 1/2 inch impact wrench for about a year and a half, I have used it to change tires to rotate tires on up to 4 autos back to back on one battery 1/2 ton & 3/4 ton it allways works!

    5-0 out of 5 stars Milwaukee 9079-22 18-Volt 1/2" Impact Wrench Kit
What can I say but it is a monster, I have taken off semi truck tire lugs with it.It does it without complaint and has power to spare.Batteries are long lasting, construction of the Driver is top shelf great charger, quality impact carrying case.Milwaukee is offering a fantastic kit for the price.Mine has been trouble free and a joy to own.If you need a powerful impact driver to go the distance with go for this one you will not be sorry.Plus it is made in the USA .Also consider the 1/2" to 7/16' adapter as an add on.It opens up even more uses for this all ready amazing tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR THE 90LB WEAKLING!
Guys, This wrench is brute. It's a heavy duty tool that take a lot of muscle power to use. I use it to remove combine cylinder bolts while laying on my back. I go through two battery packs in about 1hour of heavy duty use. Pros are no air line to get in your way, no dust from air tools, uses the same batteries as the 18v drill and ease of trigger variability. Cons are weight, weight, weight, and tool can get hot after a lot of use. My brother tried to add torque to wheel lug bolts on the big trucks after I tighten them with the wrench...but he couldn't. That sold him and me!

5-0 out of 5 stars My all-around workhorse: impact wrench, screwdriver, drill
Makita impact wrenches have an excellent reputation for durability. I have seen Makita impacts used daily by mechanics and tradesmen with few issues. My Makita impact is one of my favorite all-around tools. It works as an impact wrench, screwdriver, and drill with appropriate accessories.

I use my Makita primarily for mechanic work. With a torque rating of 1110 in*lb (92 ft*lb) this wrench will break loose most bolts on a car or motorcycle. It's more convenient to use than the air impacts I also own (no air hoses to deal with and no air compressor noise). I use a 1/4" hex to 3/8" square adapter and a 1/4" hex to 1/2" square adapter to run my impact sockets. The LED light is a nice feature, but doesn't give off a serious amount of light. You will still need good task lighting.

I have also used the impact wrench to assemble a deck and fence. The Makita drives decking screws like butter. For decking work I recommend a magnetic drive guide to hold screws while driving and to make it easier to drive screws straight. Battery life was no problem on my decking project; when one battery was discharged, the one in the charger was always fully recharged.

I like to use my Makita as a cordless drill as well. This is especially handy when working on a ladder, since I don't have to carry two tools. I bought a Makita model 192891-4 1/2" keyless drill chuck and a Makita model 784635-2 1/4" hex shank to get a 1/2" drill attachment, but Makita also sells the model 192077-0 3/8" keyless chuck attachment if you only need a 3/8" chuck.

I have also used the 6914DWBE, and recommend this model over that one. The 6932FDWDE has 28% more torque than the 6914DWBE, and is worth the extra $40.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this Tool
This is an amazing tool for driving screws. There is absolutely no wrist strain. I tried driving 3 1/2" drywall screws into 2x4's and the tool just takes off after the impacting starts. Also there is no damage to the screw head, something that will be handy with those brass screws. You need to develop a technique to use it though.
    1. Need to apply just enough pressure to keep the screw moving. Too much pressure and you might slide the driver off the screw head after it just takes off.
    2. I now use a transparent screw holder so that the driver dosen't slip off the screw when the screw literally takes off, and I can still see the screw.

If you are used to pre-drilling for bigger screws (and splitting the wood is not an issue), this tool is the answer.

You do have to get used to the technique, which is quite different from using a drill to drive screws. I remember sliding all over my wood floor trying to drive those long screws and the pressure it needed. Especially if your'e on a ladder. This is the answer. I chose the 14.4V versus the smaller 12,9.6V just for commonality of batteries with my drill. The extra 200+ in-lbs of torque is just a bonus. ... Read more

    Amazon.com Review

Ideal for home auto work, DeWalt's 1/2-inch electric impact wrench is a burly, no-nonsense tool that delivers 240 foot-pounds of torque and 2,700 impacts per minute. The tool is well balanced, weighs 7 pounds, and is 10-7/8 inches long. The trigger, a two-finger toggle switch, lets you comfortably rotate between forward and reverse--a feature especially handy for rocking loose stuck nuts. The impact wrench also features a detent-pin retainer that lets you lock a socket on the anvil (to remove, you depress the detent using a small pointed object, then simply pull the socket off). The motor's brushes are easily accessible and replaceable, too, and thanks to DeWalt's advanced brush system, which automatically stops the tool just before the brushes wear out, you'll know when it's time to replace them. All in all, an impact wrench isn't a particularly complex tool: you want one that's solidly built and packs plenty of power. DeWalt's DW290 is exactly that. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not really good enough to remove lug nuts off a car
Am I the only one that can't remove lug nuts off my car. The socket just sits there and doesn't move. Could it be that I just have a bad one?

4-0 out of 5 stars must use impact sockets with this
you really must use impact sockets (black steel) with this (and all) impact wrenches.....

regular chrome sockets will not work as they have too much "play" in them....;..

4-0 out of 5 stars A wise investment for those without an air compressor
The DW290 has saved me hours, scratch that, weeks of labor many scrapes and bruises, and tons of money on repairing my two cars. It turns even partially stripped nuts and bolts that haven't turned in 12 years.

Only rubber bushing shock mounted bolts refuse to budge with the DW290. The bushings absorb the impact so no torque to the hardware. More torque may help.

The documentation I received with the unit lacked content. No diagrams on torque versus time, how/when to maintain/repair, no parts manual. Impact wrench operation must be understood to perform to expectations. DeWalt.com promises to add Use and Care manuals to their website one of these days...

The DW290 has saved me: time, knuckle/arm injury and expense. It's given me lot's of confidence to take on almost any car repair. It's loud, works well, and DeWalt yellow so your neighbors know you are serious professional.

Advice: A complete set of Deep and Shallow, SAE and Metric, 1/2 inch impact sockets with extensions and swivels in a nice carrying case is the perfect accessory for the DW290. (I'd also recommend earplugs)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
Addressing the one (1) complaint that this torque wrench didn't perform well: You have to use impact sockets and keep extensions to a minimum to maximize the benefit of using an impact wrench. You can hold the socket with your bare hand with _most_ wrenches. Where they get their leverage is when everything is tight and the impact mechanism can hammer on the only thing that'll give: The nut.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for automotive work
I bought this tool to remove the bumper bolts on my GMC Jimmy. The DeWalt impact zipped them out with no problems. This impact also easily zipped out the crossmember bolts when I was installing a brush guard on my truck. This tool is also wonderful for changing tires. The lug nuts flew off like they were on fire. This is a great tool and I recommend it to anyone working on cars! ... Read more
