Great for the Homeowner Too !!!
I'm an advanced DIY'er homeowner, and I needed a stand to go with my DW708 mitre saw. I just got tired of using makeshift supports for long boards and the extension arms are well designed and work great. When I rec'd the stand, it was dinged up pretty good in the main spine section and on a leg. I needed to call DeWalt directly. In about a week, I had the replacement parts in my hands. All in all, I was very pleased with the service and the stand.

Sweet-
I read that some folks had problems with the arms sagging with heavy lumber on them, but I went ahead and bought this thing anyway. It is awsome. I had bee using my Dewalt miter saw for two years on the floor or on a portable work table and hated it. This thing should really be packaged with the saws.
I built a huge backyard playset and cut everything from 2x4x8s to 4x4x12 with no problems. If the arms were tightened and the arms adjusters were lined up, I had a flat surface out to end to end.
I would have given 5 stars if DeWalt had thought of adding a slot to hold the arm platforms someplace on the stand itself that would make transporting and storing the unit more convenient.

worth the money
This is a pricey but well-engineered accessory for any DeWalt miter saw. Very sturdy construction with folding legs that are solid and wobble-free. The extension arms are completely adjustable for a wide variety of cutting positions. I especially like the quick release brackets that allow you to use the saw stand-alone when needed. A carrying handle makes the saw stand portable to a job site, but the weight is heavy enough that you don't want to move it often.

Great piece of equipment
I have used this stand while installing crown molding in my house. It is very stable, lightweight and stores easily once the legs are folded.

Luckily, I purchased a Dewalt mitre saw so I didn't experience the problems noted by other reviewers about the rails not fitting the saw base. Once the saw is mounted to the rails, set up is a snap and the saw really stays in place.

I am looking forward to using this stand and saw combo for a long time. I might take the advice of a previous reviewer and see if I can construct some rails for easily mounting my table saw to this stand.

Product is everything I expected, accept!
I just received my miter stand and was happy to see it, being in
the middle of a kitchen project. I am quite frankly tired of
jury rigging stands or elsewise scurrying across the floor
adjusting and making cuts. The product arrived safe and sound
via FEDEX, so previous reviews must have gotten Amazon to ship
a safer way, even with the free shipping! It all setup nicely
and I like the quick detach feature for the saw and easy
storage. I am not by no means a pro woodworker and everything
works well for me and I am sure it will stand up well to the
use I subject it to. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars
is what I read on the box, MADE IN CHINA. I was disappointed
that a company like DeWalt had also gone to offshore manufactuering.

Nice-but heavy
I am a full-time contractor specializing in turn-of-the- century restorations. I recently purchased a new Bosch 10" sliding compound saw, and decided to splurge and purchase the Delta saw stand for my new saw. The saw was delivered promptly, but the box was damaged in transit. The stand seemed OK. After unpacking, I was impressed with the quality of the unit. Heavy gauge steel, nicely finished. Assembly was tedious, it took several hours, counting looking through my piles for several missing bolts and nuts. However, I like the thing. It seems very stable, and the wheels are handy. (I really haven't used it yet.) Biggest problem is its weight. The stand and saw together are over 110lbs. A bit cumbersome to load in and out of a truck each day. Even collapsed it is very awkward to move around corners, up stairs, etc. I have decided not to permanately bolt the saw to the stand, and use metal clamps for attachment once the stand is where I want it. But like I noted, overall it is a nice thing to mount your saw to.

Excellent stand with some words of caution
I bought this stand to go with the Bosch 3915 10" SCMS saw. Because of the large base of these saws, other SCMS's and I would suspect most 12" chop saws, you can't utilize the supplied support and stop. I also could not utilize the cord wrap brackets as the mounting hardware interfered with them, which isn't a big deal to me, but worth mentioning.

The build: 60-90 minutes, you'll go faster with a cordless drill with a socket attachment. This will likely also prevent you from over-torquing and breaking any fasteners.

The good: Sturdy and stable though a bit heavy with wheels and a handle for easy mobility. Outfeed supports for long boards and easily collapsible for storage. The DeWalt, even being more expensive doesn't have the flexibility for movement that this does (a major consideration if you need to move it from site to site). The stand is HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE, for anyone whose stood at a miter saw for hours and ends up with a sore back from bending over, this is a very good feature!

The bad: The afforementioned fact that some accessories won't work. I wondered during the set-up why Delta doesn't offer 2 different model stands, and offer them at less cost. If you have a saw that will fit the standard MDF mount then you can, if not you have to take that off and use different brackets. You end up with a lot of leftover parts either way. It's heavy, but that lends to the sturdiness of it so you take the bad with the good there. Some people complain about having to set up the outfeed supports each time but if you mark the posts like someone else suggested, it's a no-brainer.

There is some small room for improvement so I'm giving it 4 stars, but as with any "universal" stand there's going to be different issues for different saws.

Great Stand, But You Need To Make A Little Modification
I became interested in one of these saw stands after seeing one set up in a woodworking store. I was quite impressed with how heavy duty it seemed and particularly with the capacity of the outriggers. So I got one.

After I got it home I read some owner's comments suggesting that the enclosed hardware was crap. I have to agree. I didn't strip any of the bolts out, but it's a wonder. They're too soft, I believe. At least all the necessary hardware was included.

The only other problem has to deal with the stand's inability to be left unattended when it's folded in a semi-upright position. Some folks have suggested kickstands but I decided to work with what was already there: First, I stood the saw upright in the folded condition and let it balance on one leg, blocking the wheel so it wouldn't get away from me. Then, I drilled a hole through one of the hinges where the two flat metal plates overlap when the stand is folded. I then inserted a 5/16" bolt with a plastic handwheel through the hole. With the bolt in position, the stand can't move, even though it's sitting at about a 75 degree angle. I also painted the plastic handwheel dayglo orange so the reason for immobility would catch my eye if I got stupid one day. Now it works great!

As far as using the thing, it's great. I've got a 12" Dewalt CMS on mine. I don't regret buying the stand at all.

Too small for big saws...
This is a well made unit for the price. I have used mine for about 8 months on the jobsite, and in the shop.

The only problem I have with this stand is it is not designed to fit the big saws (12 inchs) Delta, or otherwise. You have to remove the MDF table that is used for mounting, and then reverse the setup using the provided rails. If you do not reverse the setup, the side with the wheels attachted will not close up for movement.

This unit is quite combersome with my big Delta attached, but does a good job of rolling, and is very steady when set up.

The out riggers are nice for working with long lengths of materials.

I would highly recommend this unit for the price.

Happy Customer - Easy to Use.
The only complaint I have with my stand is I bought it shortly after Delta released it and I paid too much.

It did take longer to assemble than I expected but the handbook was reasonably well written and led me through the process. This stand is well designed and full of little features you discover through use. The cord storage rack on the back is simple and adds a lot of utility to the stand. Simple spring loaded levers make setup and breakdown simple and the stand is sturdy in the setup configuration (on reasonably level surfaces). I will say that changing configuration can be a handful with my heavy 12" Delta saw on the stand; but it is one of those things you just learn to do.

I recently helped my son frame up a large storage shed on his property. He is a construction superintendent and has access to a lot of neat toys. After watching me drag the stand out of my pickup, roll it over to his slab and set it up in about one minute he just said "Cooollll". That about says it! ... Read more

For Professional Installation Only!!
I have the 1999 model of the Generac Guardian 15kw system. This one is hooked directly into my panel and I have a subpanel hooked to the transfer switch. If you think you are going to buy a whole-house generator system such as this one you had better be a licensed electrician, pull all the permits, and have an electrical inspector (and gas inspector) licensed in your jurisdiction. You also better be licensed to plumb gas lines. If you don't, you could unknowingly risk the lives of the electric company employees and blow up your house. So many do-it-yourselfers think they know how electricity works but really have no idea--when you have the licensed electrician install this unit ask him for some horror stories.

On the bright side, this is a real generator, not a joke Home Depot portable. This generator provides two legs of 120v (240v) so it can run your entire house and several 240v appliances. Mine runs all circuits, including the hot water heater, but not the electric stove or the heat pump (a heat pump consumes 5 kw already, which brings you to the next higher Generac which is excessively cost-prohibitive.)

During Hurricane Isabel we ran our entire house for 5 days and ran an extension cord to run a neighbor's refrigerator for most of that time. We had hot water and every home comfort available to us except the electric stove and heat/AC. If you can swing the installation costs of such a unit (which easily costs more than the unit itself) by all means get this unit but if you intend to install it yourself you are a fool.

For people who don't have natural gas you will need to change out the regulator. I use propane so we needed a different orifice. Another reviewer stated that he needed a separate gas meter but I've not heard anything about that from our installer when we talked about natural gas vs. propane. If have a combination regulator and gas meter then the gas company needs to visit. If you have a separate regulator then you need to tap the line for your generator and its regulator before your house's regulator.

Everything was as advertised
I found the Guardian 15KW generator to be exactly as described in the literature. I did have to have the power company install a larger gas meter to get the required gas flow. The cost of the upgraded gas meter installation was $140. I am not an electrician but I have had previous experience with electrical wiring and I found the instructions to be very easy to follow. I was able to do the total installation except for hooking up the gas supply line from the gas meter. After the generator was installed I hired an electrician to assist me in testing the unit for proper output etc. Everything tested out according to the specifications.

There is a problem!
The manufacturer does not mention a minor detail. This generator consumes almost 200 cubic feet of natural gas per hour at 11-14" of water column pressure. This is TWICE the pressure of a residential intallation so this unit requires a seperate gas meter. Find out BEFORE you buy whether the gas company will switch out the meter and help with the piping. Your house will require two pressures, 6" for your regular appliences and furnace and 12-14" for the generator. The generator does work, but it is NOT easy to install.

Excellent Product
I would recommend the 15K Watt Generac Generator to anyone. Easy to install. I have had no problems with it. The only difficulty was the conversion from Nat Gas to Propane. It comes with the Nat Gas orifices installed. The difficulty was due to very little working room to remove the regulator. Other than that minor issue I would rate this 5 stars. You will get what you pay for and in this case you get a great product.

The Ultimate Home Security System for Your Family
We had the Generac 15kw generator installed in our new home construction about two years ago. 15 kw is adequate for emergency power for nearly any home, although larger models are available if you wanted to power everything in your house.

The generator has performed exactly as described without a hitch since our original startup. It automatically excercises itself once a week to keep the battery charged and everything working.

The current pricing on this item is outstanding--our construction schedule forced us to buy just before the big Y2K event. Prices are now around half what they were. Installation will go most smoothly with an electrician who is familiar with these systems which have been adapted for home use, so I would recommend locating the electrician before ordering. Routine maintenance is basically like servicing a car engine, can be done by nearly anyone. The nicest thing of all is that the unit is connected to our natural gas line, so we never have to worry about fuel.

One half the price of the Little Giant
As a contractor, I use a lot of ladders.

COSCO was the first to clone the Little Giant Ladder about five years ago. Apparently, Little Giant's patent was still in force for the hinges. I own the COSCO 17FT Worlds Greatest Ladder and used it for a couple of years, but I needed something longer.

In January 2002, I purchased the Type 1 22 FT Little Giant from Amazon.com. The only difference was the hinges and a few annoying braces in the climbing area of the two narrow extension pieces of the COSCO. The COSCO is made in Korea. The Little Giant is made in USA. Both functions flawlessly to this day.

I found the Little Giant cloned at Home Depot as the Gorrila Brand ladder at Home Depot. $99 for the 13 ft model and $199 for a 21 ft model. The ladder is essentially a China made copy of the Type 1A Little Giant.

My last purchase is the MT-13 Werner. It appears to be another clone of the Little Giant Type 1A, also made in China, probably by the same company that makes the Gorilla. I know this, because both brands include a bonus set of brackets for making the scaffolding with an almost identical blow molded polyethylene case. The brackets are identical and marked Patent Pending.

I would recommend the MT-13 and the MT-17 in the Werner Brand, but I still prefer the Little Giant in the 22 ft model. It is a lighter by five pounds than the 22ft Werner but cost about $130 more.

Since all of the original Little Giant patents have expired, the hinges on the Gorilla and Werner models are identical to the Little Giant.

Of all of the models, the MT-17 would be ideal for most home owners. It will go to the second floor window of a two story house. The 22ft model will go to the roof of a two story house, but only for one with a slab foundation, not one with a basement or a crawl space.

The 17 FT model is a good balance between weight size and function. The best deal would be the Werner MT-17. The quality of materials and assembly of all the models appear nearly equal.

One reviewer noted that these ladders were hard to extend. The best method is still the method of extending the ladder using the procedure described in the Little Giant Instructional Video. Since the methods are copyrighted by Little Giant, the clone manufacturers cannot use them with their own instructions sheets, videos or manuals. Accordingly, I cannot include the Little Giant Procedure in this review.

Heavy but Versatile
I first saw the Little Giant version of this ladder on a late night infomercial. It looked so interesting that I began researching it. I discovered the Werner MT-22 on Amazon.com. It was much less expensive than the LG, and Werner has a reputation for building solid ladders. The first day I got this ladder home, I used it to clean the gutters of our one-story home - it was great! I used it as the A-frame fully extended. It's rated for a 300 lb. load and I felt very secure on it. For the first time, I didn't sit on the roof to clean gutters.

It is fairly heavy (about 50 lbs.), but I didn't have much trouble moving it around. With the legs closed and retracted, it's only 5-1/2 feet tall x 24 inches wide x 9 inches deep. Setting it up took a little practice, but it's now a snap.

I emailed Werner about a ladder stabilizer and work platform. A rep replied very quickly and said that those accessories would be available in September 2004. The stabilizer will not be the quick click variety.

Great Ladder
I would actually give the Werner MT-22 ladder a rating of 4.5 stars, if it were possible to do so, due to the weight of the thing. Other than that, this is a great ladder with virtually no flaws. Does everything it's advertised to do and more. I am still finding new uses for this thing. I have given away all of my other ladders (used to have three of them), and now use this one for everything except the "step-stool" tasks. Bottom line is that I would buy it again, which is the highest endorsement I can give.

Versatile, but LIMITED extension capability!
Bought this for the flexibility and ease of transport. It fit without any trouble in the back of the vehicle and was very easy to handle with 1 person. Being able to use it as a stair ladder or with the included braces to use it as scaffolding support was very attractive. The weakness is in the extension ability. It is very difficult to fully extend the ladder to 19 feet. Basically your only option is to half-extend it on the ground, and once you have it standing, push it the rest of the way up. This becomes very difficult as this ladder does not have the typical pulley system found on regular extension ladders. It also cannot accept the Werner Quick-Click Stabilizer. The stabilizer would normall make window and gutter jobs a piece of cake. Also, with the angled legs, I am not sure of this ladders ability to accept a leveler. This all coupled with the flexing of 4 seperate pieces, prompted me to return it for a Werner 24 foot fiberglass extension that I am completely happy with. (...)

THE ON-LINE INSTRUCTION MANUAL MADE NO MENTION OF 11 TO 14 INCHES OF GAS PRESSURE. ILLINOIS PWR CO WANTS $1600.00 FOR THAT SERVICE, BUT THEY WILL GIVE ME 11 INCHES AT NO COST AND I AM GOING TO TRY THAT. I HAVE YET TO INSTALL THE GENERATOR. THE ON-LINE MANUAL ALSO SAID IT WAS 30 HP AND IT IS 26 HP, BUT HAS THE SAME DISPLACEMENT AS THE 15 KW UNIT AT 30 HP, I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I THINK THE BUYER IS NOT GETTING ALL THE INFO NEEDED FROM THE ON-LINE MANUAL AND I HAVE RECEIVED NO INFO ON THE $100.00 REBATE. THE UNIT LOOKS GOOD BUT NEEDS AN HOUR METER TO HELP KEEP TRACK OF MAINTENANCE.

Fantastic product but you need a high pressure gas meter
This is a good product, it works really well and is super nice in that it has everything that you need included.
That said - this product requires that you have a high pressure gas meter so know that going in and realize that it'll cost a little money ($100 - $1000 depending on where you are and how much other gas stuff (furnaces etc) you have that will need to be regulated back down) and involve a little bit of hassle to get a high pressure gas meter installed. I didn't see that mentioned anywhere and only figured it out after receiving the generator. Double check with you gas provider to be sure that you can get this and figure out what it will cost before you order!
Other than that, I think this is the greatest thing since sliced bread, you can literally run your house/business off it during electric outages. ... Read more

4000XL Easy on fuel once started
I purchaced this generator as a back up unit for my home and for camping. It is fairly quiet and real easy on fuel. There is plenty of power for running the AC and anything else at the same time in my camper. Unfortunatly it is very, very hard to get started in cool weather. I have to remove the air filter and use starting fluid to get in running if it is below 50 degrees. The unit has only about 8 hours on it so far and I hope this will get better as it breaks in. It comes with a extra air filter and spark plug (which I tried changing) but didn't make it better.
If it was a better starter out in cold weather I would give it 5 stars on its capability and price. This seems to be a complaint I have read before. That's a big down fall.

Update 11/03: After having this generator for 2 seasons I would like to add that starting has been getting better. I called the factory on the inital problem and they refered me to a local servicer. I didn't bring it in though because he couldn't gaurentee free service and had a 45 day wait to get to it. I don't have to go to extremes to start it anymore but I do have to hold the throttle closed for the first 2 pulls and it will usually start within a couple more even at temps down to zero. Running Mobil one oil seems to have helped too. Overall I am happy with my purchase and haven't had any other problems in about 100 hours of use.

Timing is everything
Having lost power for 24+ hours several times and for shorter periods almost monthly in the past two years, we decided it was time to purchase a generator. About the time it arrived, the weatherman started talking about this little storm called Isabel. Thank goodness for prompt Amazon shipping!

The generator is easy to start, runs smoothly while powering our refrigerator, sump pump, and TV, is easy on gas (used about 3 gallons for 10 hours so far), and came with everything I needed except grounding wires and gas. I usually have to pull the cord about 3 times to get it to start, but that is not bad in my opinion. I do agree with the review that stated the front leg and handle stop are a bit cheap, but I don't foresee putting it to the test the way that reviewer did with his business use and his fixes seemed pretty easy.

If we run into any problems, I will edit this review but so far it has been a solid performer at a good price.

faulty oil pressure switch
WE bought this generator as a emergency power unit about 3 yrs ago.we have run it for a total of maybe 40 hours.the last time we used it,it ran for 1hr. then shut down. would start right back then do it again. unit is full of oil.unpluged oil pressure switch now it will run. this unit is not very quiet but still quieter than some coleman generators.factory should include extra switch and symptoms of this problem in manual.

Commercial Grade
I recently purchased my Generac 4000 EXL for my RV. ( Also for my home, in the event of rolling power black-outs. The product is very sound in design with big generator features at a economical price. I especially like the pressurized oil system for the engine as it will extend the life of the engine. The electric start is a "must have" for a portable generator. (even more so for a RV) The automatic idle control is great and helps with noise control. (The unit tends to be a little noisy when under a heavy load.) The generator is compact and can easily be stored in the RV.
I have found the generator to be able to handle all my power needs. Even when the AC unit is turned on the Generac 4000 handles the power needs without problems.
One note:
I did purshase a three year service contract on the unit just to take care of any problems. So far I have had no problems with the unit.
I highly recommend this generator...

Runs like a champ
I bought this generator from Home Depot about 5 years ago. The longest single use I got out of it was for a week with hurricane Isabelle-it paid for itself. Other than that I probably run it 30 hours a year. I use it to power a 1.5 hp well pump, a refrigerator and the blower on my propane hot water heater. We can shower, flush and eat-the important things in life! These three things max it out but get us by. It could have a better wheel/handle design-it's hard to move around. I had to replace the carbureator (water got in and froze up-my fault) and a low oil pressure switch. The filler cap/gas gauge was useless and the low idle mechanism is screwy. I added a screw-on oil filter, which it didn't come with, although later models do. It runs like a champ. If it meets your needs I'd buy it. I'm presently on backorder for a 10,000 watt, 18 hp Honda engine generator. My suggestion to anyone buying a generator is-get the chart that comes with generators and figure out in advance what you want to power and buy accordingly. Good Luck! ... Read more

Money Well Spent
I love my Worktunes hearing protectors! I use mine while woodworking and commercial mowing. If a radio station is static-filled I would rather listen to a loud motor. My headphones have delivered high quality sound for both music and talk stations. The hours fly by when I have them on. I highly recommend them.

Great product, but not perfect
I originally became interested in these ear muffs for my wood shop after seeing nearly every landscaper in the world wearing them. Pros - Excellent noise protection, good sound, very comfortable, easy to use, great battery life, good construction. Cons - No markings on radio dial, reception could be a tad bit better.

As for the cons, the lack of markings actually isn't that big of a deal after a few minutes of use. You simply start at one end of the dial and finding your favorite stations becomes easy. I quickly developed a feel for how far to turn the dial to my favorite AM or FM stations. Another reviewer mentioned that these muffs don't receive FM stereo. They certainly do, but only if the station is strong enough and tuned in.

My other ear protection setup is a Sangean AM/FM/TV/Weather pocket radio or a scanner, and a $... set of professional grade David Clark earmuffs with speakers. Keeping in mind that this is about a $... setup, I still prefer the DC muffs for race tracks. However, the cord can get in the way while working in the shop or in the yard, and the radio needs to go somewhere. The Peltor does an excellent job, considering it's 1/3 of the price. As for blocking external noise, the Peltor muffs are as good as the David Clark units.

Overall this unit is comfortable enough for all-day use, I now wear them while mowing and snowblowing, as well as in the shop. I am happy enough with mine that I bought a pair for my father-in law. Over the six months I've had mine, they've been dropped, wet, frozen and heated, and they have held up well. We use non-radio equipped Peltor muffs where I work, they have proven to be very durable over the years.

great tunes
I purchased a set of worktunes while my wife thought I was crazy. But after using them one time she has now decided we need another set for her. Only complaint it is tuning dial very touchy. The earmuffs work very good for hearing protection.

Peltor Work Tunes 22 (not 09545)
I just recieved my PELTOR WORK TUNES 22 (not the 90545 model). The two models most likely have the same inside components. I selected the Tunes 22 because they are a little more compact. I do residential mowing with a 52" SCAG and these radio headphones work great. I was VERY skepticle before the purchase. After mowing, weed wacking and using a back-pack blower for several hours, I totally recommend this brand to anyone considering these. Fathers Day is right around the corner...A MUST for anyone who needs ear protection and enjoys music while you work!

I could hear people talking but could not hear the tractor. I tend to play my music loud but these would prevent that. The volume is fine for my needs. This is a very high quality shop accessory!
I received this mobile planer stand for Christmas and I am very pleased with it. The packaging was adequate and the assembly instructions were basic and easy to follow. Working alone I had this stand assembled in about 45 minutes. I was amazed that all of the pre-drilled holes were precisely where they needed to be. None were off even a little bit! Although the picture here on Amazon shows this planer stand without the (included) lower shelf installed, I went ahead and installed mine. I think this is a great feature to include with this product as it adds an extra storage spot and it also adds rigidity to the stand (although it felt very sturdy anyway). For now I have put my Delta planer on the stand and am pleased with the utility of this product. The only thing I can think of that could be improved a bit, and this is minor, is the particle-board top of the stand. I felt it was a bit undersized and also a bit too thin. If I were redesigning this tool I would have made the top twice as thick to add strength as well as weight to cut down on vibration. As I said though, this is a very minor criticism. Overall I highly recommend this mobile stand as a quality product and a good value for the money!

Great Stand! Instructions need work
The stand is very solid and well built, aside from some errors in the instructions it went together quickly.

There were a couple of problems with the instructions:
1) The nuts and bolts in my kit required a 13mm socket & wrench, NOT the 1/2" stated in the directions.
2) The pictures of the bolts and the instructions are misleading. The shorter bolts should be used to attach the wheels and the foot pedal assembly and the longer ones are needed to mount the Dewalt 735 planer to the top. The instructions show them the other way around.

A good stand for a good planner
I bought this stand to use with my DW735 planner and after using it for five months, I have nothing but good to say about it. All parts are very well made and assembly is straitforward. The parts practically fall together. I have assembled many stamped steel stands over the years, and this was probably the easiest. The base has three wheels, two fixed and one castoring. The castor has a foot pedal to raise and lower the stand. The pedal is large and easy to use, even for people with big feet(like me). The pedal can be installed inside or outside the stand. Placing it outside makes it easier to reach, but placing it inside reduces the tripping hazard to people with big feet(like me). Moving the planner/stand combination by pulling on the planner handle is easy and there is no tendacy to tip. It is very manuverable. The stand is absolutly stable in use and I have never had problems with it moving when locked down.
At first, I was concerned with the top. It is not as sturdy looking as the rest of the stand. I considered replacing it with birch ply or at least heavier particle board. But after using it a few times, I forgot about wanting to change it.
One surprise with the product was the addition of a shelf that was not shown in any picture of the stand I've seen. The installation instruction for the shelf are on a seperate sheet, as though it where added after production began. How often does a manufacturer add something to a product? I've considered enclosing the stand with sheet metal and fabricating a door to create a storage area but I haven't done it yet.
You could build a stand as good for less cost but who has the time? It's hard to justify the expense and time committment woodworking requires if all you build are shop fixtures. I'd rather spend my limited time in the shop building furniture. Gotta keep Mama happy!

You gotta be pulling my leg!
Really Folks,

I can understand how contractors could benefit from a lightweight portable metal stand. However, I can't see how anyone else could be so excited about this contraption. It is hardly inexpensive at $100. It's some bent sheetmetal and particleboard! Assuming access to a table saw and basic skills, anyone should be able to produce a more elegant and less costly solution. A plywood box with wheels will do that very well. Better yet would be to add a door and shelves for storage. Two hours working plywood beats one hour assembling sheetmetal with all the screws, washers, nuts, wrenches, instructions, etceteras. A plywood stand could be used to store the manual, replacement knives, knife changing tools, and extension cord to name a few. Let's get realistic!

I have suggestions for assemblying the stand
Assembling the stand is almost easier if you don't look at the instructions. If you can put together a jigsaw puzzle you can put the stand together. In fact, if you just look at the illustrations and use your common sense you are way ahead of the game. But I've made a list of my own helpful hints that will serve you well if you follow them. This is a first class stand and having assembled it and having an 80-pound planer on top of it I am very glad I spent the extra bucks to get it. The pressboard top is the only cheesy thing about it and Dewalt should be embarrassed that they cut corners on this part. The four Phillips head bolts/screws, used to hold the top to the stand, almost pull through the top with any kind of torque at all. Still, since it has predrilled holes for the planer, I used it because I wanted to get up and running and I didn't want to take the time to build my own top, which I may do later.

First, find a nice comfortable workspace big enough to lay this thing out. I used the back of my pickup truck bed and sliced open the top of the shipping box and left the big parts in the bottom of the box. I also had a couple of sawhorses with a sturdy flat top to hold pieces as I assembled them. Second, do yourself a big favor; get three little boxes or trays to sort the nuts, bolts, and washers into. Be careful here, there are TWO LOCK NUTS that look similar to the other nuts but have nylon inserts. Also, there is a second bag of nuts and bolts and washers inside the first bag. Keep this bag sealed and put it into one of the trays since you will use them last to bolt your planer to the stand. The next-to-the-last bolts/screws you will use are the Phillips, which is used to attach the top to the stand so you can put them aside as well. Find a clear place to stack all of the similar stand pieces. I found that finger tightening all the nuts and bolts was a smart thing to do [just in case you put the wrong piece in the wrong place] you can easily tighten everything after it is put together. I used a 13mm socket on a 6-inch extension with a 3/8 ratchet. The ½" socket the instructions ask you to use is just a little too large and may round off the nuts. The only other tool I used was a small crescent wrench and only had to use it twice. Once, with the locknut-wheel-assembly and again when attaching the stand to the roll-around wheelbase.

Let's use the lock nuts first and get them out of our way. They go on two of the [four] shoulder bolts, which go through the center hole of each wheel bracket then through each of the two wheels, then onto the roll-around base. Look at the lock nut. One side shows the nylon the other side doesn't. The side that doesn't screws onto the bolt. This is where you will need your socket and another wrench. You put the wheels and brackets on the end opposite the rubber feet. Use the small carriage bolts, lock washers and nuts for the two outside holes of the bracket. Next put the foot pedal onto the roll-around base. As you look at the pedal, it has a set of holes that you will never use. Don't let them confuse you. You will use the bracket opposite the wheel itself with it's own set of holes to attach the pedal to the roll-around base. Hold the roll-around base with the rubber feet toward you and put the foot pedal inside the base [wheel down, pedal up] align the two bracket holes over the base holes and now use the last two shoulder bolts, lock washers and nuts to attach the foot pedal. You're done with the roll-around base. Put it aside and work on the stand next.

Here you will use all carriage bolts, lock washers and nuts for the stand. Pick up the front-panel, the piece with the big Dewalt name on it. Put one leg on either side. All Legs Will Be On The Outside of both the two front and the two side metal panels. Finger tighten the carriage bolts, lock washers and nuts. Put the other two legs on the meal rear-panel, which is the same size as the Dewalt panel. Now attach the short metal side-panels to the legs. [The Dewalt front-panel and the rear-panel will be on top of the two side panels. [see illustration to see what I mean. See how the big panels lay on top of the shorter panels?] Next attach the two side brackets halfway down the legs on the same end as you attached the side panels. Then attach the tray to the side brackets. You're done with the stand.

Now place the roll-around rack on a table [my pickup bed] where it won't get away from you [wheels to the left and rubber feet to the right] as you face it. Remove the left most carriage bolt holding the wheel bracket to the roll-around stand and the one opposite it on the other bracket. Put the stand inside the roll-around base [Dewalt panel toward you] and re-insert the wheel bracket carriage bolts and the last two carriage bolts on the other leg to the stand and you're done except for the top. Tighten every nut and bolt and then line up the top with the holes and insert the phillips bolts/screws and you're really done until you bolt the planer to the top using the sealed bag of nuts and bolts which you didn't open until now right! ... A great heavy duty radio!
I bought this radio for my carpenter brother-in-law. He has raved about this radio since Christmas. The sound quality is tremendous, far surpassing the DeWalt version his friend has. It has fallen off a workbench without incident! I highly recommed this product to any contractor because of its durability and quality. An excellent radio for a good price.

Excellent product
This radio is basically a portable stereo just like any other except it is rugged, looks really cool and runs off a tool battery or a/c. The knobs are large and easy to use with gloves. There is no point in comparing it to the Dewalt unless you are using both companies tools? The pass thru plug is cool, 12v power plug is cool. You can plug your charger or whatever into the back of the radio's a/c plug. Digital tuner with memory function is nice, the punch eq is just ok, only the first setting is really usable with the unit cranked enough to hear over saws, the next few bottom the woofers. The radio has a low center of gravity and a wide bottom so it's near impossible to knock over. It has rubber no slip feet too. It's not really a big deal to me that the radio does not have a charger function, if I have my tools I have their bag with the charger and extra batteries. If I am running the radio off the battery there probably isn't a/c available anyhow.
I gave it 4 stars because it deas not have a charging function. Even though that doesn't matter to me, it is a feature that should not have been excluded. Also the price of the radio is similar to the Dewalt that does offer a charging function.

sounds great!
I purchased the milwaukee radio after having both the dewalt and the bosch radios.It has a very good sound and i'm very pleased with it. The only draw back is that if you don't have other milwaukee tools you'll need to purchase a battery and charger and it does not have a charger incorperated in it. for the price it's hard to beat!

It's holding up well.
I heard a crash and then turned around. My radio was lying on the basement floor. I could have sworn I left it on top of the ladder...? Picked it up off the floor and placed it on top of a cardboard box; much more stable. No need to check the radio because it was still running and suffered only a small scratch on the bar handle. This radio is very tough indeed! It sounds great, has good FM and very good AM reception; the weather bands are tough to get but they do work. The unit will run on a Milwaukee cordless drill battery, plus the 12v DC outlet readily charges my cell phone and it has an auxiliary micro input that accepts any stereo source. All in all this is a great radio for a rough environment; though it would be nice to see it also function as a charger. This would allow you to leave your regular battery charger at home limiting the amount of gear you need to haul around. Milwaukee really should have included a charging circuit with this unit. I am sure they could have found a way to include charging without compromising the sound.

Really had high hopes for this bad boy, but after using it for a couple weeks I find myself less than impressed with this beast of a radio. The main problem I have is that the sound just isn't very good, and the radio does not have enough power to overcome the noise level on the typical jobsite without severly distorting your tunes.

I went for this over the DeWalt because of the Rockford-Fosgate speakers, but I think the only thing that they really added to this unit was a cool badge! The bass definition is really weak, and the "punch" EQ only accentuates the mid-range which is great for AM radio but lousy for music.

I do like the display and switching functions, and it does look like it will be around for quite a while. In addition, it really is the only option for someone (like me) looking for something to play their iPod through at work that will run on a rechargeable battery and accept a mini-plug input from an external source. Timely orders
I just received my 3rdhand contractor pack that I had ordered on 05/17/04. 3rd Hand - my 24/7 "on call" helper
My 3rd Hands from FastCap are always available, never late for work, and will hold things in place for days if called upon to do so. Better yet, they do not get a paycheck! I have used these tools for installing cabinets, holding blocking in place while glue is setting up, installing mouldings and doors, setting up a dust barrier before sanding, and with the larger Universal Foot - installed sheetrock. While I wouldn't recommend this product for jacking full sheets of rock, they work very well for holding smaller pieces in place. They seem to handle the 70 lb capacity easily and are holding up well after repeated use. An excellent investment!

Risky Buy
My supports arrived with no visable damage to the box but when I opened one up, the small plastic joint for the hand was broken off. I could use a good support of this type but this one is a bit fragil.

Saved my back!
Got 4 of these units. Have used them for installing kitchen cabinets on two jobs so far. WOW! once you get the hang of adjusting it and getting it in place, they are better than having a work partner. They don't give opinions. They just do their job. The loads I have put on them have been fairly heavy and they still held it using multiple jacks.

Found them very useful too for acting as pushers when installing a deck to push some deck boards into line when they are a bit warped.

Used these jacks as floor to ceiling push clamps during a wood floor installation. After gluing in place the wood flooring, placed a scab 2x6 plank on leading edge of new floor and used these jacks to apply some downward pressure keeping all the installed floor snug and down tight until the adhesive set up. The floor is beautiful.

Expect to also use them soon to hold up a plastic barrier around an area I will be working in order to control dust and dirt migration. Could work very well if you are spray painting indoors.

Always carry at least two of these with me at all times now.

3rd hand, my helper
I purchased the set of "3rd hands" with hopes of the jacks helping to hold items an poly walls. After haveing it for less then one week, I just love it. I work alone most of the time doing remodeling and new home trim and etc. most of the time. In remodeling the poly temp. wall keeps customers happy, but the 3rd hand keep me happy. Hanging cabinets, installing long ceiling molding, esspecially getting the cut mark. Holding up and in perfect place pocket door tracks.
