Great Lamp
I bought this lamp on sale to match the brushed nickel hardware on a new bedroom set.It was extremely easy to assemble and it has a very sturdy base.I love that I can just use the reading lamp without having the other light on.It is very stylish and provides ample lighting.

Great ambiance, good quality for the money
I bought two of these from the store for our office.One was missing a piece so I had to take it back, but all in all they assemble rather easily, the fact that they have a three-way switch/lighting option is great and you can adjust both shades to light your area the way you'd like.I have my lower light aimed at my desk top and the upper straight up.It really adds nice ambiance and lighting and we've gotten many compliments.

Poorly designed
I bought this lamp from amazon.com and I'm really disappointed in it.My problems with it:

a. Lacking any kind of dimmer, it's reading lamp (the side one) is much too bright for it's intended purpose.

b. The swivel on the side lamp is useless - because of the lack of tension on the screw holding it in, it simply flops around.It looks useful and isn't - this is my biggest problem with this lamp.

This was my first purcahse of a lamp or furniture of any kind via Amazon, so perhaps I was just naive in believing some of the reviews.

could not assemble the bottom part
I must have gotten a defective lamp, because I could not get the bottom piece to screw into the base. Both my husband and brother in law tried and it did not work. I have to return it and get another one.

Fine Looking Lamp
I purchased this for our office conference area/table.The lighting in our office isn't that great (which is pretty lame for an architectural office).The glass shades spread the light well, and the finish is very nice, clean looking.It's very classy looking -- it doesn't look cheap like a lot of lamps I see -- and the price is extremely reasonable.Also, the weighted stand seems very sturdy.We only just got it, and so I haven't discovered any negative things about it -- perhaps there aren't any!My boss likes it so much, he wants to put one in each workstation! ... Sleek and well made.
I was pleasantly surprised by the lamp base parts having all metal construction, meaning the 3-way switch is metal instead of being plastic. The shade is lined and appears well-made. The "beads" on the lampshade are actually ordinary ball chains wrapped vertically around the shade, but it does add an extra, more industrial, element in the design. The only part of the lamp that I feel could have been improved upon is the bottom of the base. The bottom does not make contact with my table all the way around because it's design has 4 built-in metal feet. I feel the lamp would be more stable if they made the bottom uniformly flat leaving only a small cut-out for the ac cord. That is why I am not giving the lamp 5 stars. ... Read more

Expensive but I think it's worth it
I bought this item at Sharper Image only because I had a gift certificate there (from my DiscoverCard Cash Back Bonus Award) thinking that it was sort of expensive, but I love the light that it gave off. After owning the "Bright As Day" lamp for about 8 months now, I have to say that if you do a lot of reading and writing, it is worth it. When I am reading a lot, and am starting to get a headache or the letters start jumping around the page, I come into my office and read with this light and--as stupid as it sounds--my head stops hurting, and I'm able to concentrate again.

The only problem with it is that I bought the desktop light and find myself often reading on the couch. So I think that once I save up enough gift certificates, I'm going to go out and buy the floor lamp model. The light is so good from this lamp, that I have found myself on more than one occassion taking the lamp out of my office and carting it to the living room so that I can read with it there.
