5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product and a Huge Time Saver!
Here in Texas, we have just about every kind of pest or annoying plant immaginable...fire ants, johnson/crab grass, huge grass hoppers, scorpions, nasty spiders, tough-to-kill weeds, etc.

Needless to say, I have to spray a variety of garden products on my yard, both to keep it looking presentable and to keep it safe for bare feet. I've used a common two-gallon pump sprayer and a 4-gallon backpack sprayer for years to apply weed killers and insecticides, but carrying a 16-30lb container around a 10,000sqft. yard gets old pretty quick.

This Gilmour 4-gallon sprayer is awesome! No carrying, no pumping, and no backache. You just push it about 25-30 ft, and it's pressurized. From there, movement around the yard keeps the pressure up. The sprayer also has a nice long hose, so you can reach pretty far back into planted areas, without having to push the sprayer through mulch and soft-earth.

Compared with my old sprayers, this thing has a nice wide mouth, so it's tough to spill chemicals down the side. It's also transparent enough to actually see the fill-points and measurement marks, so overfilling is much less of a problem than with opaque sprayers.

I haven't experienced any problems with leaking or spillage from the filled container, as reported by other reviewers...perhaps the model has been modified since they were written?

This product is also a big time saver, even over similarly-sized backpack sprayers...the push-to-pump (actually, I pull it along behind me) action just leaves you much more nimble, and able to move around smoother. I find that I over-spray much less, use less chemical, and finish about 15 minutes faster (less refilling, less waste, smoother motion and action, etc).

This is definately one of the best garden products I've ever purchased. A truly wonderful and smartly-designed lawn and garden sprayer!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Sprayer but...
This is a good sprayer when compared to other sprayers on the market. However, I found that the pressure was not as good as I expected. My use is for spraying larger areas such as driveways and paths rather than spot spraying of individual weeds. The lack of pressure just didn't work for me. I returned the product.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Will Pay for Itself (not to mention time savings)
No only did I experience all the good things the other 4 Star reviews said, but I only used about 2 gallons on a spray job that usually takes me 3 refills using a 2 gallon pump sprayer - that's using only 1/3 of chemical as with the pump sprayer for the same job!! (and it also only takes about 1/3 - 1/2 the time because of not having to stop and pump, and not having to go back and refill the tank)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but a Few changesnges Could Make Great
I just purchased this from Amazon being the anly place that I could find a sprayer on wheels since I have about 1/1/2 acres of grass and weeds that needs to be sprayed. I must say that I am very pleased with my purchase. It only takes about twenty feet worth of rolling to get it going enough for spraying weeds and the more you walk around the better it becomes. When you are done all you have to do is put the hose into a hole in the handle and keep the switch that lets spray flow out on and it will drain back into the container of the fluid. Since the fluid and the pressure contianer are separate which is good because then you can add stuff wihtout worrying about your pressure. When you are done you have to remember to clean out the filter or it won't work otherwise. And the only other thing I would add would be a stirring mechanism to keep the solution from settling.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terriffic Sprayer
I really like this item, especially the fact that you don't have to hand pump it or carry it around. It holds 4 gallons which is another plus, you're not having to refill it all the time as with a smaller sprayer. I did have a problem with it not pressurizing once but it turned out to be because I missed cleaning out the plug thing. The only thing I would like to see added to this sprayer is some sort of stirring or mixing mechanism to keep your sprays from settling.
I don't regret buying this one in the least, and it qualified for free shipping also, which didn't hurt any :) ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Black & Decker's Grass Hog offers the convenience of cordless power without the mess of fuel. Requiring virtually no tune-ups and no fussing with gasoline and oil mixtures, the Grass Hog gives you quiet, reliable, maintenance-free power at the flip of a switch. True, battery power doesn't measure up to the strength of a gas engine, but maybe you don't need all that power (and pollution) anyway.

This trimmer takes just a few minutes to put together, and its durable construction--backed by Black & Decker's two-year warranty--is immediately obvious. With a 12-inch cutting path--the largest of any battery-powered trimmer--the Grass Hog works quickly. It is limited to light-duty cutting of grass and foliage but can handle most homeowners' needs for weekend weed whacking. The straight-shaft design lets you easily reach under decks and stairs, and the adjustable handles offer a comfortable grip. The auto feed spool releases trimmer line as it's needed, with no tapping of the spool head required. The edger feature is easy to engage and does a decent job of cleaning up around paving stones and concrete, although it's not as powerful as gas and corded electric models when cutting extensive edges along walkways and driveways.

Weighing over 10 pounds, the Grass Hog may be a bit heavy for some users, but for small, light-duty jobs, most homeowners should find it to be quite manageable. As with all power equipment, trimmers must be handled with caution. Be sure to wear hand, eye, and foot protection when operating this serious piece of equipment. --Michelle McSweeney ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good; just a little heavy & runtime is short if edging
This does a good job of trimming and edging. I have used a corded Toro trimmer and I have to say that the cordless convenience more than makes up for the fact that this is quite a bit heavier than the corded models. Run time for trimming is about 30 minutes if not held on constantly. However, the run time when edging is very short, probably about 10-15 minutes. It does a good job edging, but it takes a little longer than a dedicated edger and does not cut quite as deeply or as narrow a swath. But the steel guide makes it fairly easy. I have found you will be pretty worn out because of its weight by the time the battery runs down anyway, so it's time for a break. In about an hour, it will charge back to about 1/4 capacity after being fully drained; 1/2 after about 2 hrs and maybe 2/3 after 3 hours. Then the charging slows down a bit (takes about 12 hrs to get close to capacity. After that, the green light comes on to let you know it is trickle charging the battery.
...

The assembly was straight-forward, just a few screws to attach the guard to the bottom. During operation, it is a little noisy, but I think it helps a bit if you get the screws on tightly enough to keep the guard from rattling. Overall, it can cut well and requires no bumping to release the string. When edging, I did notice that the edger does a better job once a new section of string is released. I think that is because it is a bit longer and can cut deeper into the dirt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very convenient tool for suburban trimming.
I have owned my Grass Hog for over a year now...and still love it. It offers the best features of gas-powered and electric trimmers. First, no gas to buy, no oil to mix, no plugs to foul, no noise and vibration and no trying to get the engine started plus no need to fuss with dragging an electric cord around. The battery sits where a gas-powered engine would normally reside -- this balances the trimmer making it easier to use than traditional corded models. The auto-feed system works great and the string is easy to replace. The rotating head makes edging easy.

I have a 3/4 acre corner lot with a fence, a sidewalk around two sides and a great deal of stone edging around trees. I can easily trim the entire yard on one charge. When I hang up the trimmer, it recharges and remains charged until needed again...very cool.

There are a few places where this trimmer may not be well-suited. It does not have the power of high-end gas models. This limits its usefulness in heavy weeds and underbrush. It has plenty of power for the average suburban yard but trimming hay from around horse-farm fences would be about its upper limit. It also would not work for a lawn-care service as it has to recharge for several hours once the battery drains.

For the average suburban lawn, this is the way to go. Mine has never failed to please!

3-0 out of 5 stars It's been 4 years of good use
Four years have gone by and the motor died. The battery would last about 10 minutes and that's it. I plan on buying the new 18 volt model and will try the other person from Austin recommendation, charge indoors. This trimmer will not do an entire yard at once so if that is your mission look elsewhere. I plan to get the new one because it's emission free. The foul emissions from my borrowed gas trimmer is sickening. The construction design could definitely be better.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's going back to the store!
I need something that last more then 15 minutes. Black & Decker, you have let me down!

4-0 out of 5 stars 3rd year, still fine
This is an extremely convenient trimmer. Ours still runs about 40 min before needing a recharge, and it feeds perfectly. I refilled the string dispenser last year with no problem. It is a little difficult & awkward to get the battery pack off the handle. It is not really designed for female-sized hands. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Every homeowner needs a tool for those places on the lawn no mower can reach. Most string trimmers can do the job--if you don’t mind either hauling around an extension cord (for electric models) or fussing with a temperamental choke (for gas). A better option, however, is this powerful unit with EZ-Start choke technology. Simply flip, prime and give a slow, smooth, easy pull; the TB490BC comes to life with 55% less effort than most gas models. A rugged four-cycle engine uses less fuel and runs quieter and cleaner than 2-stroke models, and at 26 cc provides plenty of brawn to power through the most ragged, overgrown growth. The trimmer’s professional-style straight-shaft, split-boom design gives easy access underneath low-growing shrubs. It cuts in an 18-inch radius and features heavy-duty, 0.105-inch dual line and bumphead line release. The unit comes with an eight-inch, four-toothed steel blade for heavy-duty brush-cutting, and the large, comfortably padded J-shaped handle adjusts for both righties and lefties. A convenient shoulder strap helps support the trimmer and prevents user fatigue. Best of all, the TB490BC can serve as the foundation for an entire suite of lawn and garden power tools. Just swap the lower portion of the aluminum shaft with various EZ-Link attachments (sold separately) to turn your trimmer into an edger, cultivator, hedge trimmer, blower, or pole saw. This unit comes with all necessary oil in the carton, and is covered by a two-year limited warranty. --Mary Park ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars quiet, efficient and well-balanced but seems underpowered
This trimmer is indeed quiet, well-balanced, easy to start (especially with fresh gasoline), and seems to run rather cleanly.A tank of gasoline runs it for 30-40 minutes.Changing the attachments is easy, but changing from string to brush cutting blade is somewhat more difficult. The power shaft bolt (for the string bobbin or brush cutter blade) has left hand thread (the reverse of normal screws) and needs to be torqued to 325 in-lbs (27 ft-lbs).A one direction torque wrench is not likely to be helpful, though a combination wrench with a spring scale works. The string works best when it spans 14 inches, maybe upto 16 inches, but bogs down at 18 inches.I could only cut about 3 inches into my weeds on a (3 ft/sec) pass.(The weeds were primarily tall mustard, filaree, queen anne's lace, and tall grass in close quarters.) This trimmer is rated for only moderate use.Moderate is the lowest of tri-level moderate/ intermediate/ professional rating.Would work well for maintenance in an otherwise well kept yard. ... Amazon.com Review

The business end of this push reel mower is solid, sharp, and everything a reel mower should be, with five heat-treated, knife-sharp steel blades that can be adjusted for varying grass heights from 1/2 to 2-1/4 inches. With its 10-inch wheels, radial tires, 18-inch cutting width, and 2-inch welded shrub bar, this mower should enable you to cross whatever terrain and reach whatever hard-to-access rogue patches of grass you desire. Plus, the soft foam cushion on the handlebar is a nice--and much appreciated--touch. The rest of the construction, however, isn't quite as reliable. Assembly can be a headache, even though the only tool you need is a wrench. The instructions could be clearer, and the handle parts could fit together better. Limited two-year warranty. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lawn mowing can be fun
I bought my mower a few weeks ago and have used it a couple times on my 1/2 acre lawn. It cuts beautifully, and nearly as quickly as my old gas powered mower. I have enjoyed being able to hear the birds and enjoy the fresh air while I mow. The mowing is a little bit more of a workout than pushing a small gas mower, but anyone who can walk should be able to push it easily. A couple of caveats though, the mower does not cut wet grass well, but I have had good experience cutting grass up to 6" long when it's dry. Also, it requires a clean lawn, even the tiniest twig will stop the blades, but the sticks are easily removed from the blades. The Amazon reviewer thought it was difficult to assemble. While I agree it could be easier, I was not frustrated and had the mower assembled in less than 15 minutes -- and I'm no genious at assembling products. Also, height adjustments could be simpler, it takes 5-10 minutes to readjust the height with a couple of wrenches. Overall, I'm very pleased with the mower -- I now view mowing the lawn as pleasant recreation rather than slavish noisy work!

3-0 out of 5 stars Five Years of Successful Mowing
I've been using this mower for 5 years now. As others have said, it is quiet and does not smell bad or require gasoline.

I am particularly pleased with its easy operation. It is not really much more difficult to use than a gas mower. When sharp, it cuts about as quickly. It also cuts taller grass better than some here would make you think. However, the tall grass can't be too thick.

It should be kept sharp. I recently sharpened mine. The time it took to mow my lawn went from three hours to one and a half.

Although adequate for mowing my lawn, I do have a few issues:

1. It is difficult to sharpen. The process itself isn't bad: reverse the gears, smear lapping compound on the blade, and walk back and forth on the sidewalk. The difficulty is finding lapping compound and in applying the lapping compound as well as removing the excess after.

2. It does not deal well with sticks. If I don't walk my lawn first and pick them up, any sticks will bring me up short.

3. It got out of adjustment easily in my previous town. The street sweeper there sprayed its metal bristles into my lawn and every time I got one, the blades would hit each other, dulling their cutting surfaces quickly.

4. On an uneven lawn like mine, it will miss the excessively tall blades of grass. If you look at my lawn you will see random tall blades here and there. At the rough spots you will see many tall blades.

Overall, it's adequate for its purposes, but it fails to impress.

3-0 out of 5 stars A green consumer
I got this mower because I like the idea of not adding to the pollution problem. It lives up to that all right, but doesn't exactly deliver when it comes to a clean cut. My lawn is hybrid Bermuda, which is thick and about as tough as grass can get. I raise my power mower deck to 3" in the summer to protect the grass from drought. At a little over 2", this mower isn't quite high enough for a Bermuda lawn. Forget about twigs, the grass alone can stop the blades! Also, the cut was nowhere near as clean as with my power mower. I gave up after an hour and used the power mower to finish the lawn. Once the lawn was cut I found that I could get this mower to work reasonably well if I set it to its maximum height. I also found that lubricating the blades with WD-40 is essential. Overall, this mower is not great, but is not bad either. It won't completely replace my power mower, but I'll use it in late fall and winter when I mow the grass at a lower height.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, but can't handle the rough stuff
I picked up this mower hoping very much that it would work out. I have always liked the idea of a reel mower - the quiet, the lack of gas fumes, the pleasant exercise of it. All of these things were what I had expected, and I quite enjoyed using it. I would also like to add that unlike many "assembly required" yard care items, this was easy to put together, sturdily built, and comfortable to use.

Unfortunately, the results were less than stellar. The mower did OK on low even grass, but could not handle tall grass, thick clumps of grass, and tall seed-heads. It either passed over them while only cutting about 40-60% of the grass, or in the case of thick tall grass, stopped cutting altogteher and just slid over it. As my lawn was, admittedly, rather "well-grown" when I used it, this meant a fairly thick haze of tall seed-head stalks all over it and some patches of grass that really never got cut down to size, even after (literally) mowing each area several times over. It took out the lower grass and the lawn did look better than when I started, but it didn't look exactly "cut" either. In the end I returned the mower and borrowed the neighbor's Toro Personal Pace to finish off. Wow, was *that* a nice mower!

My instinct on this is that if I'd started with a near-level, short lawn, I might have had some success with this mower, but in practice that's not often what I am cutting. If, on the other hand, you mow frequently and have a fairly even lawn, this might be the mower for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Far better than I expected
I do not have a nice lawn. It's uneven and dotted with bare spots and weed patches. This mower did beautifully on my lawn with the original factory settings. It was easy and quick to assemble the handle (the only part not assembled in the box). It's easy to push- I think easier than a gas-powered mower. It's quiet, hassle-free, and not at all the monster most people expect reel mowers to be. The lawn looks better after mowing with this than with other types of mowers. What's not to love? The same preparations used with other mowers will do fine for this. Remove rocks and sticks, even twigs, anything you would remove for other mowers and this one should work great for an average or small size yard. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars UC4000 What A Find!
I finally gave up the ghost on a gas powered chain saw. Too messy, won't start after sitting for 3 months, etc.. Then I looked at electric chain saws, read many reviews and finally bit the bullet and ordered the UC4000 Makita chain saw. Why didn't I do this earlier? I can't say enough about this product! It is large enough at 16 inches, it is powerful enough at 13 Amps and 3.5 horses to do just about any job around the house. I don't mind dragging the power cord because the saw is a blessing in disguise ..easy to handle, quick to cut, light enough so you can keep going for a long time. the only issue may be with the small oil resovoir, but that doesn't overshadow the usefulness of this saw. I highly recommend this product to anyone but a logger! Great going Makita!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Electric enough torque???
I fugured an electric chain saw would not have enough torque to do "manly" work so I didn't even consider this tool--but to be sure I rented one from Home Depot for 4 hours yesterday... WOW-- as an alumni user of several gas-powered chain saws--I'm hooked... I just ordered one after that 4-hour experience of taking down 17 trees from 6" to 15" in diameter and turning them all into firewood... my gas powered saws are goign in the next garage sale!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Tools I've Ever Owned
Most people don't take electric chainsaws seriously. That's a mistake where this tool is concerned. In the six months or so that I've owned mine I have used it several hours a week to thin out the back yard, taking down trees as much as 24" in diameter with no problems at all.

The saw is very light considering how powerful it is. You also avoid most of the maintenance headaches that gas saws are known for. Of course, you do have to put up with the one major hassle that electric saws do have - you have to drag around an extension cord, and its pretty easy to snag the cord on something and unplug the saw.

As another reviewer pointed out, it does go through bar oil pretty quickly, but the window for the reservoir is very clear and easy to see, so one can tell when its time to fill up some more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rented fro Home Depot
Got tired of always repairing gasoline chainsaw, decided to rent Makita 16" electric at Home Depot for $40 a day. Had five trees to remove, two quite large. Did a great job. Removed approximately 2 - 2 1/2 tons of limbs, trunk, etc in one day (approximately 5 hours of work). Check oil frequently as it does consume a bit but extremely well-balanced. Adjust blade after first 15 minutes of use. Adjust again as needed, mine needed adjusting during 5 hours of use about three times. My next purchase!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great at school - planning to buy one
I'm a sculpture student at an art school and we use these chainsaws for carving, for making kerf cuts to carve with hand tools, and I've also used it for kerf cutting pine logs to hew with a hatchet and chisel. I don't have much to compare them to but they work great. We have a Stihl that I didn't like as much, so that's probably a good review for the Makita. The Makita is heavier, but it seems to be balanced better. The chains were a little loose when we got them. The hand guard safety thing seems backward but that's not a big deal. The cord is a little inconvient sometimes since it's got a rubber housing around the plug so you can't use some extension cords. The chain adjustment is not as well placed as our Stihl. The only complaint I have (and maybe it's the same with other saws) is that it guzzles oil! I have to fill it up about every 15 minutes. Also, when I use it at certain angles (like pointed downward) it likes to spray oil. The floor and the wood get oil spray on them. This is a neat tool for woodcarving and the timber-framing type stuff I've been trying, though, and I'd like to have one. Oh yeah, the school bought these based on the fact that a lot of hard-core timber-framers buy this same saw. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Clean up a large yard or field after pruning, mowing, weeding, or aerating with minimal heavy lifting with this efficient lawn sweeper from Illinois-based Agri-Fab. Hitched up behind a tractor, the lawn sweeper brushes up leaves, grass, and even fine straw into a spacious hopper in 42-inch wide swathes. Easy to use and requiring minimal maintenance, the lawn sweeper eliminates most debris with one pass.

The lawn sweeper picks up remnants of yard work by lowering the replaceable brushes a 1/2-inch into the grass, though the brush height can be adjusted to accommodate any depth. With brushes spanning approximately 10 inches, the sweeper offers a brush-to-wheel ratio of 5 brushes per wheel. The adjustable hopper provides up to 12 cubic feet for waste and collapses flat for compact storage. A windscreen prevents wind gusts from blowing swept dirt and leaves back onto the ground. An upright handle on the sweeper allows users to dump contents from the tractor seat. The sweeper travels diverse terrains on two 11-by-2-1/2- semi-pneumatic tires. A hitch pin is included for quick tractor hook-up. The lawn sweeper only activates brushes while in forward movement and will not sweep while reversing. No tools are needed to assemble the sweeper for use. Manufactured in the USA, the sweeper may be covered under a limited one-year warranty. Upon shipping, the lawn sweeper measures 50-3/4 by 22 by 15 inches and weighs 77 pounds. --Jessica Reuling ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great tiller - with proper understanding
A note of caution on the tiller: it has two components which I've discovered I don't like. The first is a plastic sprocket gear that transfers power from the motor to the driveline and tines. Guess what happens when the little Garden Wizard gets tangled up in a tree root... yes, it completely strips the teeth out of the plastic gear. (Here you can correctly assume it's very cheap to mold a plastic gear instead of machine a metal one.) Second, the thing that's supposed to help eliminate the gear stripping problem is that Remington has a built-in circuit breaker right on the trigger housing. "How convenient", one might think at first, except that the breaker is made in Indonesia under questionable quality control and that the breaker is only rated at 7 amps. The tiller has a 12 amp motor. Why bother advertising that it has such a great feature like a 12 amp motor when the ciruit breaker shuts it off at less than a 60% load?

If you plan to use this product in already tilled and established planting beds, I would say that it's not a bad machine and you'll probably never have a problem with it. If you are trying to break established sod - be forewarned that tree roots or rocks will most likely cause you an instant breakdown.

5-0 out of 5 stars It sure beats doing it by hand!
I've wanted a garden tiller for years but didn't want to get into storing gas etc. (my lawnmower is electric). I saw this and was sold. It's pretty light so it bounces off hard soil but it's easy to move around the yard. I haven't used the wheels because the handle is so convenient. Using it is like reeling in a large fish. You let it till forward, then pull it back and run over the same area until you reach the desired depth. Tilt left or right to change direction. Removing the tines to remove weeds or clean is easy with the cotter pins. I did break a tine on some stony soil. Oh well. I'd buy it again if I had to do it over.

4-0 out of 5 stars My first Garden Tiller
I am a garden enthusiast; The big-noisy gas-tiller my neighbor uses kinda scared me off. I've been trying to make a vegetable garden in a less used area of my yard. I discovered the soil to be too hard and clayey and wet. Soil conditions are a gardner's nightmare ! I've been looking for an electric tiller for some years. I found this one in home depot display, when I asked, there was no stock available that day. Then I went back to get it couple of days later, to my amazement I found there was only ONE left !

It has been useful in tilling, easy to handle, I like the easy stop/start mechanism - as with all electric tools, instead of having to leave the engine on all the time. This makes less noise and is smoke-free !

I guess the tilling depth is about 8 inches - this is NOT specified in the manual.

Anyways, of all choices available, this one is good for its price. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not as advertised
I ordered this mower for the Briggs and Stratton 6.5HP (B&S) Quantum Engine and the self pacing self propelled mechanism. After waiting 3 weeks I got a 6.75 Techumseh engine and the self propelling mechanism is an odd mixture of push forward, pull back that is anything but self pacing for me. Would have been nice to state correct engine on mower and to have a better explanation about how "self pacing" mechanism works?. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased
Unit started on first pull and has done so every time since.I chose FREE shipping method of delivery. Only took 10 days. I was expecting to wait a month or better. I have split about 2 cords of wood so far, some hard wood but mostly pine. It has plenty of power for my needs. Even split a few tree rounds 40 inches in diameter with no trouble but that was (easy to split) pine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice machine
I rent a log splitter every year and then HUSTLE to get all the wood split in two days. By the end of those two days, everybody is pretty sore and beat up. I finally decided to get my own so I can split wood at my own pace. This machine is well designed and easy to use. The Honda engine is quiet and started on the very first pull! I split some large oak and while it does slow down on the hard stuff, it doesn't stop. The ram and wedge seem very durable. I don't think this splitter is designed to run for several hours on end. For that kind of use, the next size splitter is probably better. But, who wants to split wood for several hours on end anyway? This is a great deal.

Amazon.com Review

With a robust 6-1/2 horsepower engine, this sturdy little gas mower is ideal for mowing big or overgrown lawns. A single-speed front wheel drive system propels the unit forward on its own without compromising maneuverability in tight corners or turns. An innovative Triple Care feature allows users to deal with clippings in one of three ways: collect them in a rear-mounted bag with 2-1/3-bushel capacity; discharge them through a side chute; or apply as a natural lawn fertilizer via the included mulch kit. A deep-dome, 22-inch cutting deck and patented mulching blade elevate and chop clippings so they decompose more rapidly--the waste is so finely cut that it disappears into the lawn for a clean, neat look. Hefty eight-inch wheels roll and maneuver easily for less effort on your part. The nine-position fingertip height adjuster fine-tunes cutting elevation from one to 3-1/2 inches for a variety of lawn conditions. Two handles fold down for convenient transportation or compact storage. The Yard-Man 11A-435D701 comes fully assembled with oil in the carton, and is covered by a two-year limited warranty. --Mary Park ... Read more

Hang on to Toto when you fire this baby up--the air blast out ofthis blower is phenomenal! The literature says it produces up to a 215mph current, and they're not kidding. It converts in a few seconds to avacuum by removing the inlet tube and cover; just hook the front of thevacuum tube on and snap. Attach the generous bag and you're ready topick up the mountain of leaves you've blown. As it vacuums, the fanimpeller will mulch the leaves down, too, reducing 10 bags to 1. Welike the ergonomic handle and the comfortable strap. The tubes aresturdy and won't crack if you accidentally whack them. It's a lightunit at 7.3 pounds, and it's not nearly as loud as most, though at 69decibels, you'll still want to wear ear protection. Bravo, Toro!--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great for the price
I have been using this blower vac for a few months now and am really shocked by how well it works. I was a bit skeptical at first, but the blower changes very easily into a vacuum and vice versa. I use it to blow leaves into a pile then suck them up to use on my garden as mulch, bye bye leaves and bye bye weeds in my garden. The job of raking and sweeping leaves that used to take me hours, now only takes minutes. I can blow down my patio, suck up all the leaves and have the place looking great ten minutes before guests arrive. If you are like me and have a great backyard that you entertain in then pick this baby up and cut your work time by 50%!

Get yourself a long extension cord with this purchase also. The noise and pollution of this blower/vac is virtually non existent. I was shocked by how low the noise level was. I use the low setting for around other garden plants and when i really need the power switch it to high. Like another reviewer i had a small delay in shipping but it was worth the wait!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value for a very useful tool in a small yard
I wish I'd bought this Toro several months ago. We have a small yard in San Diego. Our next door neighbor has a huge ficus tree that sheds a lot of leaves in our yard. We already have 20 or so bags of debris stacked on the side of the house. I tried this blower out for the first time yesterday. In low power mode, it was able to push the leaves out of a cedar-chipped area without distuburbing the cedar chips too much. It's noisy, but not so noisy that you need ear protection. The vacuum mulcher seems to work well so far. Low power suction doesn't pull in too much, but high power works well. For a really large amount of leaves, it would probably be easier to rake, but for our small California yard it's perfect. I was concerned about the plastic impeller being able to handle all pea-sized seeds among the leaves, but so far so good. I'm not sure if the compression is really 10-to-1, but it definitely makes a difference. I haven't tried it with wet leaves, but in San Diego the leaves aren't wet very often so that's not a concern. The unit was easy to set up out of the box, and easy to switch back and forth between modes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value. Awesome blower
THe blower is awesome, and not terribly loud.

The vac isnt good for vacuuming your van's carpet, but for clearing grass clippings off of your driveway, it is beautiful.

For the price this simply cannot be beaten.

4-0 out of 5 stars Impeller info # 100-9068
Hey, all you whiny people who say they've looked all over heck and back for a new impeller. It's identified on the Toro site as # 100-9068 and my local hardware store charged $7 plus shipping, so I bought two. Yes, they do break easily, but I don't think I'll try sucking any more rocks...

5-0 out of 5 stars The best blower in the market!!!
I love it because its 1) Easy to start 2) has superb power 3) runs smoothly...I am on the fairly small side and find its perfect for me over those big ol' gas blowers I simply can't handle much less start up. My husband loves it because, even though he is a big guy, it makes small work out of our large orchard of walnut leaves!!!! In fact, watching him go into the garage, I find he picks up that little blower of mine with all the power over his big monster gas blower...when asked, he declares, its simple...more air and less work!! ... Amazon.com Review

With the Black & Decker Leaf Hog, you can clean up both the deck and the lawn with one reasonably priced and easy-to-maintain machine. This blower/vac is electric, so it requires an extension cord and an electric outlet to run, but there's nothing else to set up or maintain. The 12 amp motor has considerable power for its size, more than enough to clear driveways or decks or blow off sections of lawn. At just over 7 pounds, the Leaf Hog is light enough to use for long periods of time, and it's also quiet enough to use at any time of day. Switching from blowing to vacuuming is a snap--literally. The correct button took us a moment to find, but once you've located it, you simply depress it and remove the blowing unit, then attach the vacuum extension in its place. The extension has a bag for mulch, which attaches with a small clasp. When vacuuming, the unit mulches by sucking leaves through the fan assembly. Though this model, with its patented Vortex anticlog vacuum system, does a better job of remaining unclogged than most, you still need to be careful to avoid rocks and sticks. It also has a variable-speed control that lets you choose between 150 and 200 mph blower speed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ANSWER IS BLOWING IN THE WIND: BUY IT, CLEAN UP.
Backyard looking like a pig sty? Are those leaves --- you know, those red and magenta or gold and orange souvenirs from Mother Nature that you praised just a few weeks ago --- making you crazy? Don't reach for the rake. Instead, rake in the Leaf Hog. Made by Black & Decker, this high-performance product is actually three products in one. It's a blower, vacuum and mulcher --- mulching leaves and yard debris in a ratio of 10 bags of leaves into one bag. And it does so with ease: The variable speed control "power slide" adjusts blowing speeds from a light-duty 150 mph to heavy-duty hurricane-like 200 mph;
the Anti-Clog Vortex Vacuum System is designed to resist clogging, allowing those annoying acorns and tiresome twigs to easily pass through the blades. The shoulder bag attachment holds up to two bushels of leaves and features a side zipper for easy emptying. And it weighs just seven pounds!

2-0 out of 5 stars cheap parts- Impeller
To who it should concern,
I have enjoyed using my BV2500 Leaf hog Vac'N'Mulch for about three times to remove leaves from the surface of my yard which is covered in Decomposed Granite at a size of 1/4" minus. As a blower, I have never used better! However, don't give out any high fives! As a Vac 'N' Mulch it has a bit to be desired. It has the horse power, and plenty of wind speed as a blower however, as a vacuum it has become very whimpy and will hardly pickup a small amount of only dry leaves. Having gotten frustrated about it, I removed the attachment to find the impeller is almost half gone from the small amount af abrasion from the small rocks or debri other than leaves. In fact, one of the things that I bought it for was to help pickup pine needles and leaves. It does a poor job with pine needles and after only three uses it is half as good as it was new. The overall equipment is excellent but definitely not worth the money at half the price, if it doesn't last long enough to get it dirty or scratch it at least once! I would be willing to put a new impeller on mine and carry on using it only as a blower if I could find a way to get another one. Please advise your engineers to go for a bit more quality and help me fix mine if you can. I'd like to suggest an aluminum impeller or perhaps more of a high tech plastic. That might get some more longevity as a vacuum and you are already tooled for plastic. See what you can do for me, please....

1-0 out of 5 stars When will the leaf hog be Recalled?
We have had ourleaf hog for a little over a year. After using it for three times the off button stopped working! the only way to turn it off was pulling the plug. Also the on / off button is labelled so poorly that when the unit is dusty one can not tell the difference between the on/off button and the button that takes of the housing covering the impeller. After my husband cut his leg with the rotating impeller and not able to turn off the unit we stopped using this horrilbe product. I just looked to see if it has been recalled. Watch out people!

1-0 out of 5 stars Plastic Parts Easily Broken
I would not recommend this item. After a single use as a vacuum, the plastic housing and impellor will be damaged.

Seems like a strong blower (until you break the housing or wear down the impellor with a pebble, as I did on the very first usage).

B&D sent a replacement housing (begrudgingly), but refused to replace the impellor.

With shipping, a new impellor is about $15. You'd be better off spending the extra money on a better blower / vac from the get-go.

3-0 out of 5 stars It was okay, but with a lot of problems
When I bought this, I bought it because my neighbor had a blower vac, which got hard to rake leaves up. I liked that it ate up leaves and got hard to rake leaves out of bushes. It's attachments where easy to put on and take off. Recently we had a major problem, it wouldn't turn off!! It wouldn't turn off unless you unplugged it. Also the propeller wore away after a month. Quite dusty too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I bought this product and own it...
The other review seems to be from someone who doesn't own this product. I own it.

It did take some time (about 6 weeks total, since that is the lifecycle of mosquitos), but our yard is now almost completely mosquito free. It works.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good luck with this...
Ever been to an outdoor party where everybody gets bit by mosquitos? Having this handy little invention is kind of like inviting one more person who won't talk to you and who you pay to come, you still get bit, and so does he... or she... or whatever. Useful? Maybe a little, but not significantly (don't expect it to clear your yard of biting insects). The only solution to the mosquito problem is to move somewhere dry and arid, or to live with it. But to those of you who can take mosquitos no longer (and can't move), take heart---the more you get bitten the less your body reacts to the chemical that mosquitos use to thin your blood (the chemical that itches). So hang in there, maybe someday they will pack up and leave. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great as an Electric Trimmer
In its third summer of light duty use, the Ryobi trimmer does well dispatching the tasks of my small .3 acre yard. I just replaced the nylon cord and the task was much easier then expected. Just cut TWO 8 foot sections of line (not clear in manual) and feed right on to spool. You do NOT need to remove spool! Squirt some WD-40 to ease installation.

Watch to keep the motor ventilation clear and cool running. Not as powerful as a gas model but then the electric always starts!

You can use alternative nylon line.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good String Trimer
I really like this trimmer. The power cord lock is easy to use. (I recommend a round vs flat cord.) I'm using 12 gauge cord (After all power loss is reduced by using a heavier wire.) and it just fits.

The string winder is really easy to use, and you don't have to buy pre-wound cassets like some other string timmers I could mention but won't.

All but one of the attachments work with this motor unit. (The hedge trimmer)

5-0 out of 5 stars Love This Trimmer
I am a single woman who wants NO problems with lawn equipment simply beacause I can't work on them. I was at a local hardware store and found this Ryobi 132r TrimmerPlus on the clearance table. (...) I haven't weedeated all spring or summer and it cut right thru all the tall weeds and grass like butter! I didn't have the owners manuel but was able to find it right here on this site, my next purchase will be the blower for it! Buy this trimmer, you won't be sorry!

2-0 out of 5 stars Ok but it stinks if the lines jam
I agree with everyone's assessment that this trimmer is light , easy to load and can cut through moderately thick grass. However, I have had one problem with it. If the line gets jammed or if you don't bump it to release more line fast enough, you have to unscrew the head to reload it... try feeding two lines back into the head when you are hot, sweaty and tired! I don't know if Ryobi offers an accessory that solves this problem.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great
I bought this so I could use my tools while my Ryobi 890r 4-cycle power unit was in the shop. Again. And for when it goes in the shop next time, and next...

Anyway, this electric version works fairly well. It's great for chopping weeds and blowing leaves. However, it has MUCH less power than the 4-cycle engines, and presumably 2-cycle as well. The vacuum attachment is Useless with this, at least when picking up more than a few small, light, easily suckable leaves.

This makes me wary of using the tiller attachment.

I'd recommend this to anybody who wants a standby power unit while their's is in the shop, possibly sitting right next to mine. I'd also recommend this unit to folks who need three or so tools, except that it would cost just as much, or less, to buy separate cordless tools, saving the time and trouble of fooling around with a cord. ... The wide 21-inch diameter funnel swallows leaves as fast as you can feed them, mincing them down to fine mulch. This little unit is surprisingly powerful, and at only 17 pounds it’s so light you can mount it atop a trash can or bungee-cord a plastic bag to the outfeed and collect the waste. Out of the box, it goes together literally in minutes with just a screwdriver. The hopper tilts to 45 degrees to make loading easier, and the sliding control lever is easy to read, with settings for grass, thatch, wet leaves, dry leaves and pine needles. Double cutting lines are powered by an 8-amp motor on regular household current, and the motor intake filter comes out easily for cleaning. A built-in storage compartment keeps extra line at the ready, and changing cutter lines is easy. It’s a great unit for the homeowner, reducing 11 bags of leaves to just one bag of mulch, ready for use in flower beds and vegetable gardens.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE FLOWTRON LE-900 IS A GREAT LEAF MULCHER!!
I purchased the Flowtron LE-900 before I read Methodairman's review (see below) and fully expected I would be disappointed with it after it arrived. What a surprise when I immediately put it to work mulching more than 60 large bags of oak leaves and it performed flawlessly! Yes I had to change the trimmer lines after about 10 very large bags but the unit came with plenty of extra lines which were very quick and easy to change. For leaves smaller and softer than oak and for a less fine cut setting I'm sure the line change interval could be stretched to 15-20 bags. Bottom line: If you want to mulch leaves quickly and easily this is the mulcher for you!

2-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Mulcher ???? Not quite Dear Flowtron
We have had three Flowtron mulchers in the past. All have just about lasted 1-2 years.. They were essentially the LE-800. When we saw the Ultimate Mulcher, the LE-900, we thought "let's go this route again.. " It completely stopped after only three bags of DRY leaves that were picked up with a lawn mower (that is, pretty small pieces). By hunting through the manual, I noticed a Circuit Breaker was mentioned. Inconveniently located underneath the unit which was on a barrel and full of leaves...Great design !!! After a cool down period, I pressed it and the unit started... So the improvement is that it now blows it's own circuit breaker rather than the one in the house which was the previous problem we had!!!!!

I would NOT recommend this unit but it is the only electric powered one available so unless you want to play the gas engine plus metal blade game, you are stuck... You would think on a unit that lists for 150 dollares, they could spend an extra few dollars and put a decent motor on it.

Post Script.... I upgraded to 2 stars because I discovered that the unit had been incorrectly assembled as received from Amazon. This allowed leaf mulchings to be sucked into the motor cloggng air flow and hence causing the circuit breaker to Blow. ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine for the Price
I also expected to be disappointed, but with a little TLC this mulcher works just fine. I did not want a giant mulcher to store and this is the only alternative. You have to understand it is basically a string trimmer used to cut up leaves. The strings do break if large sticks get in, but are easy to replace and available at any hardware store. Many twigs will fall right through without damage. You can't dump piles of packed leaves in, just put in moderate amounts of loose leaves slowly and it will handle them. The motor seems strong. It did stop running when I first started with too many leaves and I thought I'd be sending it back, but a customer service rep told me where the reset button is hidden ('duh' I could have read the manual). At this new low price it's a real bargain.

2-0 out of 5 stars For a One Season Solution
I bought this leaf shredder in 2003 Spring and used it for about 10 or 15 bags of leaves. It works pretty well, but is difficult
to set up, the stand works loose with just a little use and has to be continually tightened. Parts are difficult to reorder.
You have to send a check, the manufacturer does not accept any
credit cards so it sometimes takes 2 weeks to get trimmer line and parts that break. I have already had to replace the spool which holds the cutter line. I have not been able to find any dealer who carries the parts online.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wait for a mulcher with metal blades.
I bought this machine, or its clone, at Sears a few years ago. It didn't last one season. In fact, the first time I used it a part came loose and was lost, and it took a couple of weeks for it to be shipped. It's hard to rake leaves without picking up some small twigs, and small twigs cause this machine to hangup. Someone needs to design a machine just like this, but with metal blades. Many of us don't need the larger chipper/shredders that are the only alternative. ...

Simply flip, prime and give a slow, smooth, easy pull; the TB475SS comes to life with 55% less effort than most gas models. It cuts in a 17-inch radius and features heavy-duty, 0.095-inch dual line and bumphead line release. The SpeedSpool line replacement system is exceptionally easy to load and rewind, all without removing the spool or taking it apart. The entire trimmer feels exceptionally balanced and comfortable in the hand, and the ergonomic soft-grip D-shaped handle adjusts for both righties and lefties. Best of all, the TB475SS can serve as the foundation for an entire suite of lawn and garden power tools. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty decent so far; lacks a shoulder strap
I've had this trimmer for a couple of weeks now, and it's my first trimmer, although I've used an electric one in the past.
I like the simplicity of the 4-cycle engine, since there is no mucking with oil/gas mixes. Use the primer, pull once or twice, the engine starts and you're good to go. The trimmer has been very efficient on cutting tall grass and weeds (this is not for a lawn, it's for a wild growth area on my lot). I haven't tried detailed work such as edge trimming on a lawn. So far, the only drawback is the weight. After 15mn of operation, between the weight of the trimmer, the vibrations, and pulling the trigger, my right hand goes numb and I have to stop. I wish the trimmer had some kind of shoulder support. But then 15mn gets a lot done, cutting a path through this jungle in progress. I imagine that if you have stronger arms and hands than me (shouldn't be too hard), you won't have this problem.

Don't forget your safety glasses !

1-0 out of 5 stars EZ Link failed in middle of first use!!!
I bought this 4-cycle trimmer and the troy-built edger together. I first hooked up the trimmer and did about 5 minutes of minor maintenance in the front yard, then broke out the edger. I've got a samll 70' lot in Florida with a single sidewalk out front and a short driveway up to the house, that was slightly overgrown with st. augustine's grass. I got 3/4 of the way through edging and suddenly lost power to the edger. I tried the trimmer and it barely had enough torque to rotate the trimmer head--and a couple blades of grass were enough to stop it in its tracks. Disconnecting the ez-link, i discovered that the drive mechanism inside was now coated with shaved metal everywhere--the ez-link connection had been totally stripped and both tools are now a worthless hunk of junk.

I previously owned a troy-built trimmer that only lasted 5 trims before the ez-start pulley disintegrated.

Now I've got an ez-choice: find another brand. ... Read more
