Here’s cordless convenience with the power of Toro. The 24-volt battery is as hungry as any gas-powered engine, but there’s no pull-cord hassle at startup, no running out of oil/gas mix, no fumes, no cords to lug. Just powerful trimming and edging in a lightweight workhorse. The bump-feed head supplies just the right length of 0.65 line whether you’re trimming or edging. Toro’s best innovation on this model is building two triggers into the handle, so the trimmer becomes an edger just by turning it over. It’s a couple pounds heavier than its competitors because of the bigger battery, but the soft-grip handle and shoulder strap keep fatigue at bay.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product, Too Bad Dumbed Down
Look, I dunno about any spool head probs or easy breaking line that I've read below - my use has been just fine in that regard. In fact, product is just fine in almost all regards. Its powerful (for my use at least - as avg. homeowner), the tap-to-extend-line is new to me from my old trimmer and works well in my opinion, the 8" vs 10" feature seems fine by me too - the 8" length (who cares if its actual 8 or 5 or 11 or etc.) keeps the line inside inside the secondary guard for sensitive trimming or for edging. Yes its heavy, but the shoulder strap helps to balance that. Yes its powerful, at least as well as the previous consumer grade electric trimmer this replaces, yes it holds a charge well (my trimming is maybe 2 hours for the whole kit-and-kaboodle).

the only problem? the ... trigger! geez, who ever designed this trigger needs to be fired. I'm a strong guy and don't find the trimmer too heavy or unwieldly (though some may), but the trigger made me stop several times to rest! yes, the trigger! it KILLS your thumb. first, some genius put a tirgger lock on the thing so you have to depress a safety switch at same time you depress trigger. Then, if you even slightly let go of the trigger, the safety lock kicks back in and kills the thing! and there's no full-lock-on I could find. So, you either have to keep trigger fully depressed at all times (by really squeezing), or you gotta keep usign that safety switch with your thumb. I'm still happy, and wouldn;t change it, but god its a really dumb thing for them to do. try it, you'll see.......

(also, i read somewhere its a lead hydride battery (or whatever) and not the NiMH battery often found in cell phones, etc. Thus, I think common wisdom holds you should fully discharge the battery before recharging since they have a "memory effect".)

good luck

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice design - but don't confuse it with gas powered trimmers
This is a good quality, easy to assemble trimmer. Althought the unit is quite heavy it has a nice balance & feel. The motor has adaquate power for most light to medium grass. The trimmer line thickness is the major weakness of this unit, it is .065 & breaks quite often. Athought the bump & feed head works well it is a pain to advance line all the time. If you have light grass to edge & a small area I would recommend the unit. If you have heavy grass & weeds or a larger yard I would highly recommend you invest...in a good quality gas trimmer(echo, John Deere, toro). Even the smallest 21cc gas models have LOTS more power & a much more substantial trim head & line.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS JUNK
This has got to be the worst invention by TORO ever made. I bought this to replace another battery powered weedeater a RYOBI, I should have just bought another one of them, which is What I will do after this one is returned. EVERYTHING that you read BAD about this in all the reviews is TRUE and then some. In the first 10 second of using this I realized I made a very very bad purchase. too HEAVY string BREAKS........... trigger is a hassle I could go on and on but won't Take my word for it DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy
Don't understand the reviews below. The "trigger" reqires very little force. It's a little heavy, but it's battery powered. My 5'0" tall 95lbs wife uses it and has no problems. I would highly recommend product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Clunky, heavy, reasonably powerful.
I'm in agreement with the others who are unhappy with this unit. It's heavy, the strap is inadequate, and the amount of hand power required to depress the trigger and safety is ridiculous. After 15 minutes of use, I can barely manage 30 seconds of on time (male, 36 years old, no degenerative skeletal or muscular problems.) The line does break frequently. It won't take down weeds with stems bigger than pencils. Since I own it already and my yard is small I'll probably disable the trigger safety and rewind the core with heavier line, warrantee be damned. Would not buy again, would not recommend. ... Amazon.com Review

Maintain wide distribution of fertilizer while reducing the necessary time, energy, and fertilizer to cultivate an attractive, even lawn with this broadcast spreader from Illinois-based Agri-Fab. Whereas other types of spreaders often result in overlap or missed strips, creating a line effect on lawns, this broadcast spreader distributes fertilizer in a random spray pattern to cover a distance of 10 to 12 feet. The broadcast coverage nurtures more natural, uniform grass growth, while limiting the needed fertilizer for an extra ecological benefit. Designed for manual pushing, the spreader also can be used for grass seed or ice melt in large open areas.

Fertilizer or seed are deposited into a polyethylene hopper that resists rust, corrosion, and weather damage for long-lasting use. Accommodating approximately 125 pounds, this broadcast spreader is best equipped for use in yards and spaces 25,000 square feet or smaller. The push model features an acetal gear drive type. The spreader is towed on two 14-by-4 pneumatic turf tread tires with 3/4-inch diameter axles and ball bearings. While the broadcast spreader provides excellent distribution of fertilizer and is a good choice for spreading seed and ice melt, Agri-Fab strongly discourages its use for powder lime. This USA-made broadcast spreader is designed for pushing only and cannot be converted for towing. This product may be covered by a limited one-year warranty. Upon shipping, the broadcast spreader measures 27-1/2 by 30 by 17-1/2 inches and weighs 40 pounds. --Jessica Reuling ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Order this item now. You will need it.
If you have a Ryobi trimmer take my advice and order this now.
It does not wear out that often. However, you will want to have it on hand when the original one wears out. If your trimmer line is not spitting out well it could be you need to replace this assembly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
I decided to get my husband this trimmer for father' day after seeing him trim our hedges with a small pair of pruning shears. He loves it!!! As stated, it comes fully assembled. Just get an extension cord, plug it in, and go for it. It was light weight but not flimsy. He couldn't believe how easy it was and how fast it was. We didn't know why we had not purchased one earlier. The price is great, the product is great and you will love it. 5-0 out of 5 stars Cordless Electric Shrub Pruner
We purchased this item recently for our large yard. We have a wide array of shrubs and ground covers. The shrubber did an excellent job shaping overgrown shrubs and trimming woody rosemary ground cover. It worked equally well removing spent flowerheads from perenials. The shrubber is lightweight yet powerfull and was easy to manuver and control even on hilly locations and hard to reach corners. The lock off switch that assures that the power is off is an important safety feature. We are purchasing a second "Black & Decker Shrubber" so my husband and I don't have to fight over the one we already have. Speeds up pruning and avoids sore hands and wrists from too much manual trimming. Great gardening tool--highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Shrubbers and plants come in different sizes...
If you have bought one of these items and don't like it, that's probably why. You have to buy tools based on the type of job and outcome expectations. Your job requires a larger size trimmer.

I'm a big fan of Black & Decker. They've been making affordable and quality products for decades. The 6" cordless shrubber I just bought is no exception. However, you need to buy tools that fit the job. No tool does everything. That said, this shrubber is good for small plants, ground covers, and shrubs with thin stems and branches. I've used it on Azaleas, miniature Gardenias, English Ivy, and other assorted small stem shrubs. On a few of my shrubs, the stalk is a bit big for the tool I bought, so it gets stuck and you have to pull out the stem or branch. But applied correctly, it works well and holds a charge for longer than I expected.

4-0 out of 5 stars good for branches up to 1/8" thick, not good on grass
It is just not good on grass even though photos on the box show use in
that situation -- doesn't slice but rather chomps through the area and
just will not cut through grass. So, the long handled attachment
accessory with wheels (for trimming and edging) is not useful. The
long handled attachment also is not balanced so even though you have
more reach for taller bushes or areas closer to the ground, you have
to torque both wrists to swing the trimmer around.

However on shrubbery, it shaves well. Think of how you use a hair
trimmer - that is how it trims bushes and shrubs.

It's lightweight and not intimidating as a gas powered model -- my
wife can use it without feeling scared.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the Size
After having used my parents' 2 foot shrubber, and not knowing much about shrubbers, I purchased this one thinking a rechargeable one would beat their plug-in variety. While the cordlessness is a great feature and the thing has an impressive life, I was surprised by the size of this thing. I guess I should've paid more attention to the 6-inch blade description rather than the rechargeable feature. It works great for small shrubs here and there, but for a 7 foot tall bush in the back yard, it is simply adequate. So just be sure you buy the right sized blade. Otherwise, I highly recommend this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely little machine
I admit that I don't generally like things with large whirring, sharp blades, but this little guy is light weight, handles well to cut only those plants that need cutting, unlike my very indescriminate weed whacker.

I didn't find the switch too stiff. You do have to put an effort into keeping it down, but that is a safety feature - if you slip, or your hand slips, you won't end up with 'shubbered' fingers. If it is too stiff when you get it, just open up the button and either shorten or compress the spring, but don't tape it down!

For two blissful nights I went out and cut down spent poppies, delphiniums and penstemon(with big tough stems), it cut like a hot knife through butter, to the extent that even my sister (who doesn't venture into the garden normally), wanted a go. The battery lasted considerably longer than half an hour.

Unfortunately, my puppy ate the recharger (the puppy is fine, he discovered the delicacy on the floor where I'd dropped it on the way to the tool cupboard)...I am trying to get a replacement but the customer service at Black and Decker is leaving a bit to be desired (the online parts ordering decided my credit card does not exist and keeps asking me to re enter it), so that's where it loses a star! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all.
Street price is $49.99, available at Home Depot and Target. Assembly was fairly straightforward. The lower half (cutting head and motor) snaps into the upper half (shaft, battery and handle). The instructions said to push any slack power cord between the lower and upper half into the upperhalf, but that didn't work. Just push the cord into the lower half instead and the two halves snap together easily. The handle then attaches via a bolt and finger-tightened nut. The handle position is adjustable. The instructions state that a full 24 hour charge is required before first use.
Thetrimmer worked well, taking down grass and some minor yard weeds. I live on a 90 x 110 lot in the burbs, with a separate garage. There are flower beds around the entire house, one side of the garage, and there are four trees. I did not experience any loss of power, however, I only edged for about 10-15 minutes, and not with the power on all the time, only start/stop operation on an as-needed basis. With an 8 inch radius, you will have to get used to edging with the hub much closer to your target cut area. Note that even a small gas-powered trimmer such as the WeedEater FL20 (15" wide cut path), $68 at WalMart, has a radius almost twice that. Once you adjust to this paradigm, you shouldn't have any problems. I discovered that a small radius is great for cutting stray grass/weeds in flower beds, without laying low the Missus' geraniums. Balance felt good (with the handle positioned straight forward), and the unit is very light (~6.5 lbs according to the literature), making it easy to haul around. The on/off power control (no throttle!) is a two part system, with a thumb safety switch which must be pushed forward before the handle can be squeezed. The safety switch is fairly easy to nudge forward, enabling you to depress the power handle only. Once you do so, the thumb switch need not be constantly pushed forward, allowing you to rest that digit (whew). The bump line feed worked flawlessly and the sharp cutting blade is firmly held on by two screws, making it replaceable. The body is indeed made of Toro red plastic, so don't drop the trimmer onto the driveway like you always do after you're done ( - ;The battery is a sealed lead-acid type, which is serviceable at a Toro dealer. I'm sure if you could get your hands on a battery you could do the replacement yourself, as the body is just screwed together. Lead-acid batteries dislike extremes in temperature, deep discharges, and long term storage without a constant charge. (Has to do with "irreversible" sulfation of the electrode plates over time, and also electrolyte issues... Technically, you can reverse sulfation with overcharging, but you would need a programmable power source, and I don't have one.) Indeed, the manual recommends that you keep the unit plugged into the charger when not in use. It further states that there is "no memory effect" and is impossible to overcharge. As such, a charging cradle would have been nice, but probably wasn't feasible for the fifty dollar price. There is a 2 year warranty.Short term, I'm satisfied with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars A trimmer worth buying
My first Toro wireless trimmer croaked after 14 years of regular use.So I didn't hesitate buying another one despite reading a negative review, and I'm not disappointed. The first one was a 6 volt model - which was excellent for trimming around trees without shredding their bark.I have a gas powered trimmer for the heavy work around streams and clearing brush - but prefer less power around trees and shrubs. This is a significantly better trimmer than the former- plenty of power with a durable battery.Highly recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars More plastic to fill the land fills.
This product is not a good product. It fails to meet any type of standard.Substandard for small to medium yard.No power. No reach (very small radius). After 3 uses, this item was put up for the winter.Wouldn't recharge the old battery or a new one.NOT WORTH IT. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More than enough.....
I purchased this trimmer to replace my electric trimmer that was falling apart. The directions are straight-forward, and assembly was simple.Starting the trimmer for the first time took several tries, but eventually fired right up.
Moving from an electric trimmer to a gas trimmer is quite a change. The Troy-Bilt has dual-trimmer ends, and rotates much faster. It weighs quite a bit more than the electric, naturally, which is really the only downfall, outside of the edge guide. The edge guide is a bit awkward, since it is a rotating wheel. It is a bit bulky and makes it hard to judge the true length of the strings.
Overall, especially for the price, you can't beat this trimmer.I would recommend it to anyone with a moderate sized yard. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Splitter
After facing two back surgeries in two years, and hand splitting wood for 40 years previously, I realized swinging the splitting maul was no longer a option. I researched several different brands of electric splitters over a 6 month period and finally decided on the FISCH LS 8000 4 Ton Electric Log splitter.
When I received shipment, which was only 5 days, the external packaging appeared normal, but opening the package was another story. I discovered several pieces of broken plastic, that came from a shattered electrical box, and a missing bolt for the leg assembly. I found a bolt in my shop and a roll of duct tape, finished assembly and plugged the unit in. I immediately challanged the splitter with some small diameter slab wood, next a green 12 in. block of stringy White Elm, and finally a knotty piece of green Ironwood. The little 4 Ton FISCH, said good by to all of them. I can hardly wait to use it again. I emailed the Company Direct, and within a day I received a email message and a phone call to confirm that they would ship the damaged electrical box and missing nut and bolt. My back is feeling great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Compact Splitter
I needed a splitter that would be easy to manage, and the Fisch LS-8000 certainly lives up to its product information. I have had the splitter for about two months and have been very pleased. I wasn't expecting this kind of splitting efficiency for the money. In addition to my being able to easily move the splitter by hand from one location to the next, I am amazed at how this small but very sturdy piece of equipment easily splits hard wood. It is fast and efficient and actually can do a log greater than the recommended diameter of 12 inches, although most of my wood has been around the 12 inch range or slightly less. It does require the use of two hands simultaneously but that actually turns out to be a nice safety feature. So far, I have cut a variety of wood without any difficulty. Delivery of this product took around four weeks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine for Splitting Logs
My extended family has always enjoyed a good fire during the winter months, and when given the opportunity to harvest several nice oak trees, I jumped at the chance and began to investigate both gas and electric log splitters. Gas log splitters were out of my price range, so I narrowed my choice to electric and settled on the Fisch. I read all the reviews, helpful hints and owner's manual thoroughly before starting to split my initial 4 cords of wood. To be quite honest, this machine outperformed my expectations completely. Not only did it split logs that were wider than 12" in diameter, it did them when they were freshly cut, with no hesitation nor sticking. I sprayed the wedge with cooking spray before every log and rarely had any problems at all with the logs not splitting completely after the cycle. To make the splitter operate at best effeciency, I would recommend following the owner's manual completely (spraying the wedge before each log, opening the air screw, checking on hydraulic fluid regularly) and of course, clean the splitter from time to time to reduce the amount of goop accumulating on it. In one weekend, I cut and split enough wood for both myself, my two sisters, and my father...over 4 cords of wood. With seasoned wood going for about $150.00 per cord, it paid for itself immediately. I would not hesitate at all to buy this machine, as I was more than pleasantly surprised by its performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I had bought this earlier
What a great little device. I was able to split 16-20 diameter wet (cut down a week ago) Red Oak without problem. What was really great was being able to split smaller diameter branches that would be very difficult to do with an ax/maul. I also made several 'spacers' of 1x4 inch stock to keep the ram from returning all of the way back. That way it took less time on shorter logs to reach the log. Just place it on top of the rail and when the ram returns is hits the spacer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good machine -- not unlimited power.
I have to agree with Dallas Walters in that the machine does not have unlimited power -- as you would expect from an electric model. It will stall on bigger and tougher pieces. But it also splits logs within it's specified size range easily. Using two guys we split a load of dense dry pine in a very short time. Quiet enough to not disturb the wildlife.

When I received the machine and unpacked it I found that two nuts that hold the handle and wheels unit had come loose and fallen out of the handle holes of the shipping box, or they had not been included to begin with. So, had to go to the hardware store for an acorn nut and a locking nut before we could set it up and try it. Also, don't lose the manual. Nothing is clearly labeled (like the fill/drain hole -- it looks like just another bolt head).

Overall I am pleased with the machine, and hoping it will hold up to a lot of splitting on our heavily treed lot! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent addition to DS600 shrubber
We bought this when we bought the DS600K Shrubber because we intended to use the shrubber to reach very high growth on two of our bushes. It is very well designed in that you plug the shrubber into the bottom of the handle and then have power control available at the grip of the extender's handle. Also you can rotate the shrubber in a 45 degree angle at the base of the extender to better position it for reaching up for trimming. The missing star is because the weight of the shrubber on the end of the extender feels heavy and unbalanced.

2-0 out of 5 stars Longevity of tool
The tool is manufactured to be replaced when the battery has to be replaced. On initial inquiries, local home centers will not repair it unless bought at their stores and under warranty. B&D charges $23 for the replacement battery and this does not include labor. If you understand its cheaper to get a new one instead of replacing the battery, then it's a nice tool.

This is a must have accesory for the trimmer for folks that have trouble bending over or kneeling. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

We popped this out of the box, snapped it together, strapped iton, and were ready to move some leaves. What a delight this littlemachine is for cleaning up debris in the yard. It's lighter than thebackpacks kids are hauling to school these days, the shoulder strap iscomfortable, adjustable, and distributes the weight evenly, and theFlexTube is a great innovation that takes the strain off your arm andshoulder. Black & Decker crafted a joystick handle onto the FlexTube, letting you direct the 140 mph airflow with absolute ease. You can alsotake off the FlexTube and carry the tool by the handle to use it as atraditional blower--but the strap and FlexTube are so cool that wecan't imagine using it any other way. Another nice plus--it's quieterthan you'd expect for this much power. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars NEW, EASY AND EFFICIENT!
Wow! What a difference the adjustable shoulder strap makes. With our old blower I felt as if I were engaged in a wrestling match just trying to clean off our driveway. Now, with the shoulder strap the weight of the blower is evenly distributed so that I can work with ease. Why didn't someone think of this before? Another feature I like is the sound quality - this blower doesn't wake the neighbors! It can be used either with the flex tube or straight tube. Thank you, Black & Decker! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love that hummingbird!
This birdbath is everything I had hoped for... beautiful! I love hummingbirds and enjoy having birds of all kinds come to the yard, so I was happy to add this item to our wedding registry. The bath itself is a wonderful mosaic of what looks like stained-glass tiles (I'm not an expert on materials, but that is the effect when I look at it).It is a shallow bath, so it will require frequent refills during the hot months, but that's a good thing to avoid getting dirty, drawing mosquitoes and to keep it clean for the birds. The black iron (I think!) base is simple to set up so you can take it out of the box and have it in your yard immediately.

Bottom line... this is a beatiful birdbath, so go ahead and treat yourself (and your neighborhood bird friends)! ... Read more
