Battery charger issue
I recently purchased this blower and the separate ...battery you need, but have yet to use it because I have had trouble finding an 18v battery charger. Amazon doesn't have one as a separate product, nor [do local stores](18 volt chargers are rare items, I am told). I wound up ordering a new Makita 18 volt 1/2" drill kit with two batteries and a charger for about $209 (not much more than the price of two batteries). A reconditioned drill kit would be even better, as recommended in another review here, but when I looked Amazon no longer carried this item.

Point is, think about how you are going to buy your batteries (cheaper in a kit) and where you will get a charger if not in a kit.

I give it 5 stars because I assume it is a great product, and the review system requires a stars to be selected.

A convenient light duty blower.
I bought this blower because I wanted to clean off my driveway without the hassle of plugging in my larger electric blower. I've owned it for about a year now.

The first thing that you notice about this blower is that it's much smaller than it looks in the photos. It's closer in size to your hand saw than it is to a standard leaf blower.

This has it's advantages and disadvantages. It's easy to set up, just twist the nozzle onto the front and plug the battery in the handle and you're ready to go. If you have a small outdoor job like blowing leaves or twigs off your front porch it works great. But being physically smaller in size than other blowers you don't move nearly the volume of air as a full size blower and sometimes you need to bend over and "push" the debris around with the air stream. The trigger style variable speed switch is great in that it allows you to dust off items that wouldn't survive a more powerful blast. It would be great for jobs like blowing sawdust out of your shop area as you could lightly dust the shelves and then sweep the floors full blast.

Even with an 18 volt battery the Makita doesn't have enough power to do the big jobs or work well on grassy surfaces. Even a large driveway would be a strain as it would require too much bending over and you would probably run out of power before you were done.

This blower is for hard surfaces and small jobs. In this role it is a mini powerhouse. It's build quality is high and it is light weight. It's designed for those "in between" size jobs.

It might even make a good blow dryer for a wet dog.

In summary, do NOT purchase this blower for regular yard work. Buy a full size.

DO purchase this blower for jobs of convenience and you will enjoy it. It is well built and nice to have when you're willing to start a five minute job but not a 20 minute one. :^)

Update: Dec 5, 2002 This morning I used the blower to blow off the powder snow that fell on my vehicle overnight. It took less than a minute and I didn't get my hands snowy just before I had to leave for work. Because you can whip this blower out quickly, there are a lot of different things that you can use it for that you might not think of otherwise.

Great little toy !!!
This Makita blower is fantastic. It has a variable speed switch that sets the blower from low to high. Don't get me wrong, you can't blow a whole yard clean, etc...I would recommend the 18 volt because you will get about 12 minutes of full blower time with it before you have to re-charge the battery. The lower voltage models will give you less time before the battery runs out. It is rather expensive ..,, but it is worth every penny. I use it to blow the bed of my pick-up truck clean and to blow the debris out of our gardens. It also has a suction feature for quick vacuum jobs, etc..., and a bag to hold the debris in. Let's just say, it gets small jobs done fast !!! This little gem is environmentally friendly, not too noisy and there are no electric cords to worry about. It surpasses broom clean-up by 101% !!! Once again Makita proves to be the best !!!

A much better blower than expected
I read the only previously written review before I purchased this blower and I almost didn't buy it. However, it seemed to be the best available alternative. I was very happy that I did.
I use it around the patio and pool and it works very well. You'll need a battery and charger. Hint: buy the factory reconditioned 18 volt 1/2 inch drill for only a few dollars more
than the battery and charger. You'll get the drill, a charger and two batteries.

Weak -- at best
This "tool" comes without a battery or charger. What's more, there appears to be no way to order a battery for it.

Got sawdust on a workbench? This thing would *probably* work okay.

Got leaves in your front yard? Get a real tool instead. ... Read more

Simple, but a tad cumbersome.
I purchased one of these along with my Scott's Classic mower. I found that I don't use it much since it seems to get in the way more often than not, especially if you cut your grass at higher settings. Its effectiveness at catching the clippings is reduced by the wind and the slope of your yard. Grass clippings tend to want to accumulate on the mower rather than in the grass catcher. It's simple, inexpensive, and does an alright job of catching the clippings, but I guess I would rather leave the clippings on the grass. Your mileage may vary!

IT WORKS WELL
Doesn't work quite as well as most other grass catchers I've had on gas mowers, but it does its job. I only use it when I've allowed the grass to get a little long and it keeps me from having to rake my entire yard. Sure it misses some grass and sure it is difficult at times to back up the lawnmower, but show me a grass catcher that doesn't do that on a push mower. I've had several and they are all similar at times. The biggest advantage is that I can catch the bulk of my grass in silence, without gas fumes, while I get a little exercise! Love my push mower!

Just barely better than raking.
Reel mowers have been around for quite a while and it baffles me to no end why there is still not a decent grass catcher for this "classic" lawn mower. Just a small wind from behind or a small amount of grass collected along the forward portion of the catcher ensures that you have to continually stop and manually redirect the grass to the rear of the bin or plan on raking.

Installing the catcher to the bar is a chore each and every time unless you store the catcher on the rear of the mower. That increases the amount of storage space you will need by not a small amount.

I've done my bit for the environment this year, but next year may bring the ear plugs and a gas engine back into my yard. Reel lawn mowers are real pains.

ALL BUT WORTHLESS
I'm a pretty handy guy and I could not figure out how to properly install this "universal" catch...probably because it's simply not a good fit even when installed to specifications. Why Scott's brand would allow such a generic "piece" to be associated with their product and brand name is beyond me. Unless you know how to weld the included hardware to the rear cross-member (and I certainly do not), I find this catch to be totally worthless...if you're like me, you knew you were in trouble when the assembly instructions didn't even offer assembly for a 20 inch mower.

I wish there were competition...
This thing is a piece of junk. Hard to put on, easy to fall off. It misses 30-40% of the grass thrown at it. Most of the remaining grass piles up on the mower reel. I have a _tiny_ lawn, and i had to stop 3-4 times to re-attach this bag.

Truly pathetic...
I am not given to writing negative reviews and I cannot ever recall giving anything one star before, but this machine is a joke.

I have probably used 6 different types of 'weed whacker' over the years and this is by far the worst starting machine of any kind (even given that 2 stroke engines are the work of the Devil) I have ever attempted to use.

Apart from being a nightmare to start, the wretched thing cuts out prematurely after a max of 10 minutes, either due to overheating or a lousy fuel system.

Maybe I was just unlucky with this particular machine, but this monstrosity should never have slipped past quality control. That is, if they even have any.

Useful but slow cutting
I have several live oaks in my yard that need a lot of pruning. I can cut branches about 12 feet high from a step ladder using a chain saw or lopping shears. With this tool I can get at limbs up to 20 feet high.

But I was a little disappointed in the cutting performance. I did not expect it to work as well as a chain saw, but I expected it to work better than it does with the aggressive teeth on the blade. It is difficult to get good leverage on the blade while holding the trimmer with both hands so close to the back end of the trimmer. It does good on limbs up to 1" in diameter, but it takes several minutes to cut through a limb that is 3" in diameter, and that is an eternity while holding the trimmer at an awkward angle over your head.

Great Add on
This tree/bush pruner is really great. I have a half acre with a wide variety of trees. Apple and Pear trees are a snap with this baby. Over grown rose of sharon is no problem. Oak does take a little longer to get through but hey, I'm not standing on a ladder sawing the old fasioned way and breaking a blade. I fully recommend this item. I have the blower/vac, hedge trimmer and snow thrower attachments for my Ryobi and this pruner really takes the place of a small chain saw. It comes with 2 blades and the strap. Get it if you have bushes and trees and ryobi/john deere/craftsman.

not quite "there"
Mine wouldn't work, the pruner shaft tube was a bit too long to work when attached to the extension; I disassembled it and cut it down 1/2" shorter and it worked good after that.

Great tool when it works
I used this for a couple of days trimming shrubs and pine trees. It worked great! It's like a sawzall on a stick. I was cutting up to about three inches in diameter limbs. Then one day I was taking out some massive bushes and on the 5th one it stopped working. You could move the blade back and forth with your hand. I went to www.trimmerplus.com to look up the nearest repair center (as instructed in the manual). Everyone on their list said they wouldn't fix it and they don't know why they are in the DB. Then I tried the 800 number service locator. Again... everyone close was either outta business or wouldn't fix it. Finally a customer service rep tracked down a place about 25 miles from me (an autobody shop???). I'm going there today to drop it off. I'll update the post with any relevant info. HTH.

Powerful saw
I already owned a 55 Rancher and the Husqvarna arborist chain saws, when I purchased this saw. It is a very powerful saw. The de-compression feature does make starting easier. It is a high quality saw with significant improvements over earlier models. The chain/bar tension control is much easier to adjust on my 18" 55. The 359 has a new metal chain guard (for safety when a chain jumps off of the bar). The metal guard has one drawback. I had a chain jump and it severly chaffed the chain (metal on metal) resulting in a damaged and therefore lost chain. Best I've ever owned.
I've gone through a few sprayers over the years, usually getting whatever was at Home Depot of Ace Hardware. For the price, this is the best one I've owned, BY FAR. Excellent heavy duty construction, metal wand, carrying handle (so you don't use the pump handle), and pressure relieve valve. Good product
This is one of the most used tools in our lawn care arsenal. It is very easy to use and doesn't get too heavy to carry when full. We use this for spraying weed killer on spots in the yard and for spraying insecticide both in and out of the house. We may not use it everyday, but it is sure handy to have. It certainly helps us out by saving us the cost of hiring an exterminator. Great cover for the money
I have a lawn tractor with a 46" deck and this cover fits great. The elastic at the bottom completely surrounds the tractor and will keep your equipment dry in any conditions. My only complaint would be that the nylon is a little thin. You need to ensure that the tractor muffler has cooled or it would easily melt through. Well worth $40. ... Read more
