If you are in the reserves you know how much trouble it is having two separate locks with two different keys for your duffel bag and T-4. Try fumbling for the right key or looking at a combination lock in the middle of the night. On occasion you are required to leave a key. This allows you to keep a duplicate incase the other is not available (save the truble of making duplicates). I grew up with Master Lock and it implies, "do not even try to mess with this lock." ... Toooo Big for Suitcases
I bought this lock thinking that it would be the right size for my various travel suitcases.

Sure enough, as previous reviews have mentioned, this lock was tooo thick to fit through the holes of any suitcase! It was tremendously heavy as well.

It's a great sturdy lock worthy of the Masterlock name.....just don't buy it for your suitcase. You have been warned.

Check your luggage first.
I bought these locks to go on my luagge. They seem pretty sturdy but are much too wide to be put through the holes in my bag zippers, and I've had to return them. I haven't measured how wide the locks are, but my bags are pretty typical in size; if they don't fit on my bags my best guess is they won't fit yours either. ... Read more

Best Value, easy to use, serious deterent
I've been looking to get some additional security for my car for some time. I've looked over all the options to add to my security system. This is the most cost effective way to seriously beef up my security and deter would be thiefs.

This lock is so simple to use, and the cylinder keys are excellent. Cutting my steering wheel twice would probably still be difficult to get around this lock because it fits so perfectly on my steering wheel.

Anyone, tell me a better security investment for $25 from Advance Auto.

Master Lock 375DAT Snap on Receiver Hitch Lock w/ 5/8"Pin
After spending more than I care to mention on a bike rack and a hitch-mounted storage rack I felt I needed to protect them with a hitch lock. The Master Lock 375DAT is for a 2" receiver and replaces a 5/8" pin. I looked at a few bike and hardware stores and found it to be competitively priced on Amazon. It also appeared to be of better quality and lower price than some others I found at a hitch store as well. In assessing the lock I wanted to see how well it performed in three apsects: 1) Fit and ease of putting through the hitch pin opening 2) Ease of locking and opening with hitch attachments on; and 3) Did it make any noise or rattle.

Overall I was more than pleased with the lock. 1) With regard to placement I was pleasantly surprised to find that it slid through my slightly rusty receiver hitch better than any of my existing pins. I think this was because it is a better quality SST than my other pins. I also found the locking mechanism to be easier to lock in place than the conventional pin. Since the locking head is symmetrical I did not have to worry about getting the hole lined up just perfect to insert a cotter pin (also minimized knuckle scraps). 2) It was also easier to mount my storage rack attachment since you approach the lock from the side rather than having to address the cotter pin through the attachment. I had also intended to use with my bike rack which is held in place with a bolt. I forgot the bolt is held in place with a nut welded to the inside of the receiver tube so the lock is unable to go through. Not the fault of the lock, just disappointing that I either have to keep using the bolt or somehow remove to enable the lock to pass through. 3) I was a little concerned that there was some play in the lock and that it might create some noise. The play I noticed helps engage the key in the lock and does not appear to be a problem.

My only complaint is that I wish Amazon carried a version for my other car that has a 1 1/4" receiver which needs a 1/2" pin! ... Read more

Not what I expected from Master
The lock is heavy and durable. Its a pain to set your combination, and you have to jumble the numbers in order to lock it. The lock face numbers are inverted, so you have to tilt your head a certain way to look at the numbers. Hardened lock maybe.... very low quality steel
Stupid apartment complex realized that this lock is easy to remove with the wheel, so they booted two of my wheels. I put on my two spares and left. It is INCREDIBLY easy to remove from the wheel because the steel used is quite mild and bends easily. I won't say how to do it, but I will say that I had never seen one of these before and it was off in less than 10 minutes. May be good to keep people from "borrowing" your car, but shouldn't be used on other people's cars to extort money. Keep in mind that this is the lowest-priced device on the market. You get what you pay for.

- Does not come with rim locks (thief can just pop off the wheel)

This will only slow down a serious theif. Lack of visibility could cause someone to drive off with the lock on the wheel and damage the vehicle.

Excellent gym lock!
I just found this lock this morning in the local hardware store. I needed something to take to the gym with me. I was pleasantly surprised with it considering it only cost $12.00. It is just the right size and shape to carry in your pocket. When the zeros are all turned up into the loop of the lock, it's a compact package. Setting the combination is child's play. It works very smootly while still feeling very secure.

NUMBER ONE PADLOCK
This lock has everything I want: 4 dials instead of 3 for more security; sizable dials for easy and correct setting and operating; super strong--I believe it's stronger and more secure than other heavy padlocks manufactured by Master Lock (try to break it!). It also has very nice appearance. It's ideal for doors, lockers, closets, bikes and PC's. So far I haven't seen a better padlock than this. Really love it and recommend it highly.

just make sure that the lock is facing you (where you align the numbers)before you lock it or else you would have a hard time
openning it because now the alignment bar is not facing you.

I have been using a lock with a key for the past several years for my gym locker. The shabby condition of the lock prompted me to put a new one on my wish list from amazon.com. Father's Day rolled around and I received the lock as a gift. I must say that it is one of the best locks I have ever had.

The numbers are very easy to turn which is usually not the case with number-type locks. The ease of turning is due to each number having a small prominence which juts out for easy grabbing onto. The lock itself has a large circular loop ring so that it can be placed through most any hole for lockage. The combination is resettable to allow you to change it if you would like. When the lock combination is set for open, the latch releases easily without sticking.

One size fits most vehicles!
If you have a 16" steering wheel, I'm sure it will fit perfectly!
My car has a 15" steering wheel. As a result, the looseness prohibits the upper hook on the left side from engaging the steering wheel. The right side (bar end) engages firmly along with the lower hook on the left side providing 2 strong points of contact. In spite of the fit, I do not believe this steering wheel lock can be removed in a reasonable amount of time with sheet metal cutters and/or bolt cutters. The visual deterrence along with the theft insurance (up to $5,000 towards your comprehensive deductable) should warrant the expense. I consider it a secondary defense against car theft.
If it was 1" smaller (to better fit my 15" steering wheel), I'd give it 5 stars!

Safety? Depends on the situation I suppose
Masterlock, most notable for their excellent padlocks, has joined the gun safety fray by introducing 2 new trigger safety locks. I have tried it and used it on my Mossberg 500 pump action shotgun and found its application to be extremely easy.

The problem I have with this locking system and really all trigger locks, is access: what if the user needed to access the weapon in an emergency? Many people - myself included, have firearms for the purpose of personal or home defense. We are now in a quandry where local governments have passed laws mandating that ALL firearms be stored in such a manner that they are either trigger locked or in locked containers.

I have no problems with safeguarding my firearms against unlawful use - they are both expensive and create liability issues if they are stolen and used in such a manner. What I'd like to see is companies like Masterlock develop a non intrusive system that keeps the guns safe but easily accessable in times of emergency.

For now, triggerlocks are just too dangerous when used in storing defensive firearms. ... Read more
