5-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine
I just used the machine on my 1996 Ford Probe. It did a great job at removing the swirl marks and bringing out the shine. It didnt remove everything I wanted it to but my paint is 8 years old and may need more aggressive measures. Cut the time of waxing in half because its so easy to remove the wax from the car after it hazes over. Overall, a great buy from a great company.

5-0 out of 5 stars Polisher
Totally awesome polisher. Lightweight, smooth, and powerful. I have a 30' boat that would typically take all day to wax with a cheap orbital polisher. I can now complete this job in three hours with a much better finish. I use the 7424 to apply wax and the Dewalt polisher to remove and finish the boat. These tools save valuable time and give this boat an incredible finish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Wax Applicator ever
I use it to wax my 45' Boat and three cars. So good, I bought two!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Money well spent! Works like a charm! A+++++
Very easy to use, even for someone who's never used a polisher before. I used it on my wife's car which had a Maaco paint job a year earlier. Really brought it up nice. I can't say enough about this machine!!
I used the 3M Finesse-It II Finishing Material Machine Polish to start with and then used Zaino. Here is a pic of my wife's car after it was done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Detailer
This is the original Black and Decker Buffmaster. I bought mine in 1992 and it still works great.

5-0 out of 5 stars foam & wool pads
To the person who has problems with , and refered to tie pads.
Any major paint wholesaler can sell you a kit that will replace
the pad with a velcro based plate to which you can place a foam
or wood pad with a touch and all work great.

5-0 out of 5 stars DW849 works for me !
I bought this polisher to compound and wax a boat and I was extremely pleased with the results. The variable speed dial with a maximum RPM of 3000 was definitely the ticket on the parts of the boat that were suffering from severe oxidation.

I found myself running at about 1800-2000 RPM's over most of the boat but having the extra power when needed was definitely a time saver.

The only drawback I could mention is that this tool is not friendly about accepting generic polishing and cutting pads produced by "other" manufacturers. The Dewalt mounting bolt for the flex backplate leaves few options other than to use DeWalt pads unless you want to use the drawstring type, and I have been unable to find any drawstring pads worth purchasing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad gearing, and more.
I have had my polisher less than one year.I have had the spindle replaced twice do to abnormal gear sounds, and viberations. And just today the electronic module well R.I.P. I will say this at first i loved it and now i hate it.By Andy.K A long tine detailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt Polisher
This is the best polisher/buffer i have ever used. I own a detailing company and this is the only high speed buffer we use. Very well built. We have one that is over 4 years old, and still works like it is brand new. The variable speeds make this buffer great for beginning polishers and expert detailers. A must buy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fine machinary.
Humming along under heavy use for a couple years now. Smooth, quiet, powerful, and a heck of a deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars UNBELIEVABLY Smooth!
I received this buffer as a gift. I cannot express to anyone who hasn't seen this machine running the smoothness of this unit. It is so unbelievably quiet and vibration-free. The quality sticks out all over it. The shafts are heavy and smooth. The unit is heavy-duty, well-finished, and powerful.

This is typical Baldor quality, and if you've ever had any experience with Baldor motors or grinders, that says all you need to know. These units are US-built (Fort Smith, Arkansas). That's real important down the road (in case you ever need service or parts). But... the way this machine runs... I don't anticipate needing either service or parts!

The 1800 rpm is nice. The edge of an 8" buffing wheel travelling at 1800 rpm is really zipping by. I'd be uncomfortable with the 3400 rpm model (because I'd be afraid it'd heat the buffing compound too much). Once you see this machine running, you'll know what I mean.

This is a machine you could use day-in, day-out, and still get a lifetime's worth of use from it. Unbelievably fine quality! ... Read more

Product Description

With the Porter-Cable 7336SP polisher, fears of polishing are a thing of the past. Unlike circular buffers and lesser-quality random-orbital polishers, the 7336SP is easy to use and safe on your paint- even for the amateur. This is a dual-action polisher: it oscillates in a random, orbital fashion, preventing excessive heat buildup. This polisher will not burn your paint. The 3.7 amp motor includes a variable speed mechanism which allows you to control the speed between 2,500 OPM and 6,000 OPM. An important component of this tool, which separates Porter-Cable from most of its competition, is the removable counterweight. The counterweight is located in the rotating shaft and maintains balance while you polish. Unlike the Porter-Cable 7424 polisher, the 7336SP comes with a specially-balanced counterweight which is required as you switch to denser/larger non-OEM pads. The flexibility of the 7336SP allows for a variety of pads up to 6 ½ inches. It comes with a white polishing pad that works well at minor oxidation, swirls and light scratches. While excellent at polishing, this pad is also soft enough to be used for finishing and glazing. This tool is so easy and safe you will regret not having added it to your detailing supply box sooner. Finally, a polisher you don¿t have to fear! Please note: This unit does not include a hook and loop backing plate. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Power polishers help cars, boats, floors--or anything else you take a shine to--come clean. The Makita polisher uses electronic speed control to maintain a constant 600 to 3,000 rpm, even under load, and that combined with multiple speed settings results in little risk of burning paint. The polisher converts easily to a sander, and quick-change hook-and-loop sanding pads eliminate clamping, bending, and tucking. We like how the handle provides secure, comfortable grips for use at any angle, and the lock-on trigger means you can go long distances with minimum fatigue. The 10 amp motor provides plenty of power, and, as with all Makita products, it's designed for long life, with easily accessible brushes that can be changed outside of the tool's housing. If you like to maintain a flawless façade, this tool deserves a place in your arsenal. --Justin Paul ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ITS THE MAX
I had a body shop for twenty years. Spent more time behind a polisher than would be believed if I stated it. Polishers for automotive use were all 2400 RPM. It was either on or off, and no variable speed. When trying to feather in an area, I used to feather the switch on and off intermittently. This polisher by Makita takes it to the next level. The moment I took it out of the box and plugged it in, it was preset at one on the speed dial. I squeezed the trigger, and it crawled around so slow I couldn't believe it. Then when setting it at a higher number it gave you variable speed on the trigger. That way you had the option of adjusting by the trigger, any speed up to the preset number. Additionally, you could press in the lock on, and it would remain at a constant speed. In plain words, every option was considered, well thought out, and integrated into the tool. Leave it to Makita to make another dead on accurate tool. Add to that the built in smart electronics, which gives you just the right amount of power to keep it running at the preset speed, even when it encounters more resistance. That keeps the speed constant.
I do woodworking projects now, and was looking for a solution to give me a polished finish. The problem was that my old polishers had two speeds. Flat out 2400 or stop. Additionally they had only one option for bonnets, or cutting wheels: Large!
The Makita 9227C comes with a hook and loop 7" backing pad, and an included centering spline. Their are nice polishing wool bonnets that work with the hook and loop pad. Their are also hook and loop lambswool polishing pads that are close napped, and make for a very tight clean edge. Great for getting into those otherwise inaccessable areas. With woodwork, you may be polishing a 3 inch apron for example, right up against the underside of the table top. That requires a hook and loop backing pad, with a tight nap hook and loop pad.
Makita also has available as an option, the side handles that we have all come to know, the standard throughout the years. Those side handles are my personal choice for automotive. The handle that this 9227c comes with does not feel intuitively comfortable in my opinion. At first I thought that handle would grow on me after awhile. NOT, it is uncomfortable. I had bought the Makita 4 1/2" grinder at an earlier time from Home Depot, when they run their tool sale, just about giving it away. That side handle works perfectly on the polisher as well. So for the super cheap price, it is nice to have the handle, and the grinder.
Additionally, this polisher is available at the Makitatools.com site with the side handle only instead of the wrap around handle. The part number on that one is 9227CY. Since the side handle is available as an option, I chose to go with this one, and pick up the handle, to keep all options open.
Makita also had the standard rubber backing pad with the hex nut for the center, so you can use the standard bolt on cutting wheels, and be able to use the tie on bonnets on top of it.
If you are planning on doing the mile deep gloss level of polishing, you will need the 2400 speed range that this Makita gives you. (As well as the other speeds) The polishers that only go to 1750 is not what you want for truly incredible gloss. Especially when using high build finishes like urethanes, and well cured lacquers.
With all that in mind, that makes this Makita the top of the heap. It does share that position with the Milwaukee 5540, but that is another review. I like the Makita because it is 6 pounds instead of 9 like the 5540, and has 99 percent of the power, and 25% better price tag. The Milwaukee comes with the side handle instead of the wrap around.
All in all I am glad I bought the Makita although I must admit the Milwaukee is tugging at me as well. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars solid unit
nice solid unit...unique handle allows variations in holding the unit up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Electronic Control Can't Be Beat
I recently took delivery of this machine and just can't put it down. The electronic speed control does exactly what they claim. It maintains speed even running an eight inch soft pad with sixty grit on the slowest speed setting of 300 rpm! The handle is another great bonus with a much greater combination of postions than a regular side grip. This polisher/sander maintains Makita's rep as having the lightest...but strongest polisher/sanders around, this one's a feather. It also has the standard goodies like the spindle lock and trigger hold. It's definitely the favorite in my shop. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

At about 9 pounds, this polisher is an easy-to-use weight and size, and the side handle can be moved to the left or right to accommodate each user's preference. Very handy. The variable-speed trigger switch allows you to vary the rate of speed when you're polishing, slowing down or speeding up depending on the application (0 to 1,750 rpm), so it's easy to be precise. There's an easy-to-set dial speed control. The 11 amp motor never bogs down, making it easy to bear down when a deep polish is required. The glass-reinforced nylon handle is comfortable to grip and stays cool even after extended use. The spindle lock makes for convenient, quick accessory changes. We really like the detachable Quick-Lok cord, too. Cut or damage the cord, and--if you own other Milwaukee Quick-Lok tools--simply swap cords. Easy, right? (Plus, it encourages buying more Milwaukee tools--never a bad idea.) All in all, this is an easy-to-use polisher, perfect for general use. (Pros, however, might want something faster.) So whether you're working on your car, boat, RV, or tile flooring, Milwaukee's heavy-duty polisher will bring out the natural shine in no time. --Dori Anvinson ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Spend the extra few bucks and get the Mwkee 5540
This is a very nice polisher. Their is nothing wrong with it. The reason why I suggest the Milwaukee model 5540 polisher instead, even though it is a few more dollars, is because it polishes up to 2800 RPM's. 1750 is usable for a lot of purposes, but 2400 is where you want to be for the ultimate gloss in catalyzed urethanes or old world leaded lacquers. (They took the lead out years ago, and their went the glass like gloss, so next day polishing on catalyzed urethanes is the mile deep club)
I had a body shop for 20 years, did a lot of high-end cars. Spend a zillion hours behind a polisher. Had a multi step polishing procedure. First you wet sand the car with 600 grit or 800 grit wet dry sandpaper. Then you use a true silky smooth tie on lambs wool bonnet and Dupont 606 hand application compound. (The secret is after going over the car the first time with the 606S compound, put on a fresh lambs wool bonnet, and go over the car a second time. It is amazing how it improves the gloss. That way you have a true polished surface to build your protection on. Then use liquid ebony to eliminate the swirl marks, then Maguire's machine glaze, and then hand glaze. People couldn't help but come over and ask you about the finish on the car. Three new bonnets are required) Anyhow, 1750 rpm's didn't do something, like warm up the finish enough to give you mind blowing gloss. The 5540 gives you up to 2800 RPM's with a speed setting dial, so you can tweak it in to the desired speed, which is 2400 for, automotive.
By the way the owners manual, which is available here at Amazon at this listing, and the listing on the 5540 as well shows you that the hook and loop pad is available as an option, with several different types of pads, depending on the application you are using.

Milwaukee makes great equipment, and no matter which model you choose, it is a nice piece for your arsenal. I just think the 5540 is worth the extra money, because of the increased capacity into an area that includes automotive level of finishing. Hope this helps.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice, heavy-duty machine
I compared this with the Makita 9227-c side by side. The Milwaukee is a good deal beefier and I'm confident it will run all day long if I ask it to. Note one difference is the Makita has a hook and loop (velcro) disk if you are for or against that. The Milwaukee has a plain rubber disk. I don't know if H&L is an option or not.

I use this for final buff-out of high gloss lacquer furniture finishes and it works great.

A nice feature is that the back has a "stand" of sorts, so you can lay the tool down securely without contaminating the bonnet. Also nice is the twist-lock cord that helps prevent breaking the conductors at the point where it leaves the tool. I have this problem with other tools that require a sharp bend to get them back in their cases.

This is variable speed, with a dial, so all you do is dial in the speed and pull the trigger switch. The speed dial is conveniently located at thumb-tip above the trigger.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty and well balanced
When you what a polisher with some guts this is the one. Having been a Millwaukee fan since my first hole shooter drill, I expect a lot from each product I buy from them. This polisher is no exception. You can put a nice buff on a wax job with a light touch, or you can grind off 10 years of oxidation with rubbing compound and a firm application. The Millwaukee just keeps on working, staying cool in your hands and not bogging down. Costs a little more to buy this quality at first, but down the road these tools are always a bargin. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars For Car Grade Polishing, This is the One to Have.
I have looked all of the polishers available here at Amazon. Using something at 1750 RPMs might be ok for some finishes, but to get true high quality gloss, you need a 2400 RPM machine. Less than that, you don't bring up deep gloss. More than that, with the speed of a sander or grinder (4500=6000 RPM) will burn your finish right up.
This Milwaukee has the right speed, and it is variable if you want to go into a different level of polishing, than the automotive level. With 11 amps in the motor, you are sure to have the kind of power that will guarantee a constant speed, even when you have a 7" bonnet loaded with compound.
Another great feature is the locking collet. I had a body shop for 20 years, did a lot of high end cars, personally spent more hours on a 7" polisher than would be believable if I stated it, seriously, and locking collet would be a dream come true. Most polishers have an allen wrench based nut in the center of them, which holds the rubber backing pad to the shaft. When it is time to change a pad, it is often frustrating, because of the center nut. All you can do to change the pad is hold on to the backing pad, and use an allen wrench. That resulted in a slipping backing pad, sliding around the spindle. To have a locking collet is an engineering dream for a polisher.
Since polishers require a lot more torque, and beefy components, than a grinder, it is comforting to know that this Milwaukee has helical gearing, and all ball and roller bearings.
I have come to appreciate the heavy duty build on Milwaukee tools. Their new Lok Tor cordless drills are the highest torque in the industry. Their 11 amp sawzall is the best, and the list goes on.
I noticed a comment in the editorial review, that a pro might need more speed. NOT. This polisher covers the proper speed. A burn mark in a polished finish, looks like a raising of the material, in a little series of ridges. Another peril of too much speed is a quick burn through the finish, revealing base coats for example primer. I mention this because this is the heavy duty unit. You don't need something faster, or more powerful. You would be hard pressed to find another tool out there that does the job better. The competition, with less power, slower speeds, and that funny handle that goes over the top of the polisher is not what you want. I went into the local home center and felt that handle position just today. It is uncomfortable for polishing. You want your hand out out to one side of the head, just the way this Milwaukee is. They further enable you to choose a side, in the event that you are left handed. It gives you a wider stance with a side handle, which equals better control.
All in all this is a five star piece of equipment. It costs a little more than the competition, but the extra money is put in the tool. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heavey-Duty!
This is the best High speed Polisher i have evre used. It's light and easy to use.not only has it out lasted my outher polishers it stil works like it's new. It also has the best feel to the hands,it never heats up or slows down it's one Heavev Duty tool. ... Read more
