Everything about this drill press says quality, whether you're a professional or a home do-it-yourselfer or woodworking hobbyist. To our delight, this model doesn't feature the belts and pulleys of the lesser machines; rather, there are two variable speed ranges—from 150 to 1100 rpm and 500 to 3200 rpm, suited to your material and bit size. The table is larger than those found on other brands with the same throat capacity, and bigger is always better where that's concerned. It rides extremely smoothly on a rack-and-pinion system that requires practically no effort. We like that the power switch is right on the front of the head, rather than on the side, for quick starts and stops. When we examined the 1/2-inch chuck, we found yet more quality in the Jacobs name. It runs like a dream with no play that we could discern, assuring a quality bore every time along its 6-inch stroke. It's hefty at 230 pounds, so there's no vibration whatsoever. Perfect for the cabinetmaker or exacting home woodworker.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gun for the Hobbyist or Professional
I just recently purchased the PSH1 and I must say it was a great buy. I had been using a traditional HVLP system that operated on 5psi. This gun has a recommended operating pressure of 43psi. My compressor recharged far less than I expected, very little overspray and I actually used less material than the old HVLP system. Many adjustments can be made including, pattern size, material flow, air volume and air pressure. Bonus features, easy to clean and the material filter which is optional to use. For those not used to a gravity feed, don't worry you will soon be impressed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great quality for the price
I have very little experience with spraying finishes--mostly frustrating. Previously I had used a small detail gun, a [low priced] 1Qt. gun and a Wagner airless. Found all to be fussy to set up and inconsistant in use (and the standard air sprayers waste finish due to their high pressure output). The PC arrived & I am so impressed with its quality. As mentioned in the previous review this gun is made of 1st rate materials. I was pleased to see 2 air outlets in each of the aircap horns which helps produce a nice fan pattern. Besides the small hole in the center of the cap that the needle tip protrudes through there are several very tiny holes surrounding it to aid in atomization.
Not obvious in the listing is that this gun comes with a nice regulator & gauge that fit on the gun. Another nice touch for the money.
My only gripe is the gun comes with just one nozzle (1.5mm), Amazon and others don't list other sizes. From PC's service center thay cost[more money] for each size set. That's outrageous and is the only thing keeping me from giving the gun a 5 star rating

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Spray Gun
This is the best HVLP spray gun that I have ever used for fine finishing. I bought it about a month ago for a job to paint 2000 lf of interior trim and door jambs with oil base paint. Result is very satisfactory and I saved lots of time. I have another 3 stage HVLP paid about $600.00 with extra different sizes of nozzles from Amazon 3 years ago. I had used 2 times only. Then I have never used it anymore. Because it is very hard to adjust the size of fan. It is either too narrow or too wide.

Before I decided to buy this, I was afraid of buying another trash that gives you only headache and messes up job.
I used it with 20 gallon air compressor. After 10 minutes practice over the brown paper hanging on the garage wall, I could make a beautiful job.It is very easy to adjust and control the size of fan. This is one of the best tools for Pros for living.

5-0 out of 5 stars HOORAY FOR HVLP
I have sprayed clear finishes on my woodworking projects for many years using a conventional spray gun. Although I have been able to achieve a quality finish, I was always disappointed by all the overspray and fog created in my garage. What a great pleasure it was to use the Porter-Cable PSH1 HVLP gun. Adjustments were smooth and easy; quality of finish was superb; and best of all, there was no fog to contend with. I'm sold. I'll never go back. Thanks for a great product.

3-0 out of 5 stars To cut a long story short
When the gun arrived I was delighted, it looked like a $200 gun. When I used it however there was a leak at the nozzle tip. Needing to spray a job, I took the fluid nozzle to a machinist and had it bored out. In fairness to Porter cable, when I told them about this they dispatched me a new gun, but sadly, this one leaked at the reservoir cap. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Black & Decker's Grass Hog offers the convenience of cordless power without the mess of fuel. Requiring virtually no tune-ups and no fussing with gasoline and oil mixtures, the Grass Hog gives you quiet, reliable, maintenance-free power at the flip of a switch. True, battery power doesn't measure up to the strength of a gas engine, but maybe you don't need all that power (and pollution) anyway.

This trimmer takes just a few minutes to put together, and its durable construction--backed by Black & Decker's two-year warranty--is immediately obvious. With a 12-inch cutting path--the largest of any battery-powered trimmer--the Grass Hog works quickly. It is limited to light-duty cutting of grass and foliage but can handle most homeowners' needs for weekend weed whacking. The straight-shaft design lets you easily reach under decks and stairs, and the adjustable handles offer a comfortable grip. The auto feed spool releases trimmer line as it's needed, with no tapping of the spool head required. The edger feature is easy to engage and does a decent job of cleaning up around paving stones and concrete, although it's not as powerful as gas and corded electric models when cutting extensive edges along walkways and driveways.

Weighing over 10 pounds, the Grass Hog may be a bit heavy for some users, but for small, light-duty jobs, most homeowners should find it to be quite manageable. As with all power equipment, trimmers must be handled with caution. Be sure to wear hand, eye, and foot protection when operating this serious piece of equipment. --Michelle McSweeney ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good; just a little heavy & runtime is short if edging
This does a good job of trimming and edging. I have used a corded Toro trimmer and I have to say that the cordless convenience more than makes up for the fact that this is quite a bit heavier than the corded models. Run time for trimming is about 30 minutes if not held on constantly. However, the run time when edging is very short, probably about 10-15 minutes. It does a good job edging, but it takes a little longer than a dedicated edger and does not cut quite as deeply or as narrow a swath. But the steel guide makes it fairly easy. I have found you will be pretty worn out because of its weight by the time the battery runs down anyway, so it's time for a break. In about an hour, it will charge back to about 1/4 capacity after being fully drained; 1/2 after about 2 hrs and maybe 2/3 after 3 hours. Then the charging slows down a bit (takes about 12 hrs to get close to capacity. After that, the green light comes on to let you know it is trickle charging the battery.
...

The assembly was straight-forward, just a few screws to attach the guard to the bottom. During operation, it is a little noisy, but I think it helps a bit if you get the screws on tightly enough to keep the guard from rattling. Overall, it can cut well and requires no bumping to release the string. When edging, I did notice that the edger does a better job once a new section of string is released. I think that is because it is a bit longer and can cut deeper into the dirt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very convenient tool for suburban trimming.
I have owned my Grass Hog for over a year now...and still love it. It offers the best features of gas-powered and electric trimmers. First, no gas to buy, no oil to mix, no plugs to foul, no noise and vibration and no trying to get the engine started plus no need to fuss with dragging an electric cord around. The battery sits where a gas-powered engine would normally reside -- this balances the trimmer making it easier to use than traditional corded models. The auto-feed system works great and the string is easy to replace. The rotating head makes edging easy.

I have a 3/4 acre corner lot with a fence, a sidewalk around two sides and a great deal of stone edging around trees. I can easily trim the entire yard on one charge. When I hang up the trimmer, it recharges and remains charged until needed again...very cool.

There are a few places where this trimmer may not be well-suited. It does not have the power of high-end gas models. This limits its usefulness in heavy weeds and underbrush. It has plenty of power for the average suburban yard but trimming hay from around horse-farm fences would be about its upper limit. It also would not work for a lawn-care service as it has to recharge for several hours once the battery drains.

For the average suburban lawn, this is the way to go. Mine has never failed to please!

3-0 out of 5 stars It's been 4 years of good use
Four years have gone by and the motor died. The battery would last about 10 minutes and that's it. I plan on buying the new 18 volt model and will try the other person from Austin recommendation, charge indoors. This trimmer will not do an entire yard at once so if that is your mission look elsewhere. I plan to get the new one because it's emission free. The foul emissions from my borrowed gas trimmer is sickening. The construction design could definitely be better.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's going back to the store!
I need something that last more then 15 minutes. Black & Decker, you have let me down!

4-0 out of 5 stars 3rd year, still fine
This is an extremely convenient trimmer. Ours still runs about 40 min before needing a recharge, and it feeds perfectly. I refilled the string dispenser last year with no problem. It is a little difficult & awkward to get the battery pack off the handle. It is not really designed for female-sized hands. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice but not great
I've been replacing my bargain Sears tools with those of better quality. Couldn't be happier with my other assortment of PC tools (nailers, saws, and drill). The router comb is definately nice, but not nearly as big of a step as I expected over a $59 Sears router. Depth adjustment is definately a big improvement, but took a step back by not having a locking collet (need both wrenches) for bit changes.

Bought at a sales rep demo and got the dust collection base thrown in for free. It is better than nothing, but I wish I would have looked closer at the Dewalt set-up.

Bottom line, does the job, but falls a little short of my high expectations for PC tools.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better thought out
I recently purchased this combo because I had a need for both an evs router and a plunge option. I have a Milwaukee 1-3/4 body grip router and the 3-1/2 hp evs that I use on a regular basis. Unfortunatly Milwaukee is not coming out with a plunge base for any of their routers so I went with the PC. The evs option is nice, as are both of the bases. Where this combo falls short is 1 Both bases are set up for template guides not the wide hole for most bits. That is an option. (C'mon PC! Wake up!! how difficult is is to supply both bases with a 2 base set?!?!?). 2 the guide that comes with it, although very smooth and easily adjustable also throws off the balance of the machine making it difficult to use on long runs as it makes the router side heavy as the handles are perpendicular to the guide as opposed parallel which would make it easier to control the guide as well as push the router through the stock.
3 the evs speed settings are somewhat vague.

Other than the above issues the tool is well constructed and the soft start is really nice. If PC corrected the above issues I would rate this tool at 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still the industry standard for so many accessories, etc.
As a relative beginner, I looked long and hard at all of the models of routers out there and settled on further examining and evaluating three of them -- Porter Cable Combo Kit, Makita "D" Handle, and Bosch Combo Kit. Each had impressive reviews as well as definitive pros and cons. The deciding factor came down to the vast number of accessories already available for Porter Cable and also the fact that most manufacturers have paid silent homage to the PC brand by designing their respective products around the Porter Cable name -- table inserts, plates, bushings, guides, etc. Since I didn't want to buy a brand that would require a lot of shopping around for accessories or creative workshop design and fabrication to adapt and use, this Porter Cable combo kit gave me the very best of both worlds for my level of epertise (novice) and also the money I spent. It has heft and balance as well as a genuinely solid feel to it and in its first use, I felt extremely comfortable using it to router a Roman Ogee and chamfered edge on two different pieces of stock. The router experts may disagree with me and although I would defer to their individual experience and expertise, I believe that this model router will afford me the least expensive and most valuable method of learning this particular art all the while I'm having fun!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Router--Greater Value!
I picked this up as a second router, and for the price and quality, it's tough to pass up. PC tools are built like tanks, and should last much longer than lesser brands which are within shot of the same price range. So far, this router has shown plenty of power and surprisingly good balance & stability considering the weight (it won't blow away). The features on both bases are built to last for the long run. Porter-Cable included the deluxe edge guide with this, and it is very nice. Things that could be better for this kit? Handles--ditch the hard plastic and thrown on a set of ergonomic, rubber-coated ones for better grip. Also, include the base for the wider, edge-routing bits with this kit--it's kind of tacky to have to make a 2nd trip to pickup a base which is so obviously needed & used--and spend $15 for it. The case should also be molded to hold the edge guide that's included--it was loose in the shipping box.
Overall, very satisfied with the router & results for the money ($160). ... Read more

Delta has done it again. The TP400LS 12-1/2-inch planer is a solid addition to the company's already stellar lineup of planing tools, and it is ideally suited for the home woodworking enthusiast looking for a good planer at an affordable price. Like other Delta planers, this Shopmaster model is designed to provide smooth results, superior snipe control (thanks to the four-post cutterhead support system and headlock), and fast, safe, and accurate blade changes. Powered by a 15 amp, 120-volt single-phase motor, the planer generates an operating speed of 8,000 rpm. As materials pass into the unit, two double-sided, reversible knives deliver a blazing 51 cpi to smooth rough surfaces and provide an attractive finished result. The double-sided steel knives come factory-indexed and fit directly on machined posts in the cutterhead, so there's no fiddling with knife-setting fixtures or tricky gauges. Plus, a magnetized blade-removing tool makes it a snap to get the blades out. Delta has also extended the infeed and outfeed tables on this unit to 28-1/2 inches to better support stock and included a sturdy stand to give you the option of making this a freestanding unit. --Carl Thress ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth the small investment
This is my first planer - so I really have nothing to compare it with. Set up was very easy, most time consuming part was assembly of the stand - took about 20 minutes (even at my normal slow pace). The planer itself was a snap - just install the knobs and remove some packing material and you are ready to go.

I ran some maple and walnut throught it and was impressed with the finish, smooth as glass. I used a digital caliper to check thickness in several spots on the boards and they were pretty much dead on. The only thing I wish this machine had was some sort of "final cut" mechanism, so that you could preset your final dimension and not go any further with the plaining. I guess that is something you would expect on a much more expensive machine. I highly recommedn this planer to any home woodworker.

2-0 out of 5 stars Kicking Myself
This is my second Delta 12.5" planer. The first one lasted about 2 years with moderate home shop use before the cutter head bearing assembly failed as I was preparing to insert a board. A spectacular array of metal and plastic shrapnel flew around the shop, and some into me, before I could cut power. Although Delta Factory Service agreed it was most likely a manufacturing defect, alas, it was a month out of warranty and the cost of repairs would far exceed the purchase cost of a new one. Oh yes! And the knife retention screws were so tight it broke my hex wrench, rounded the inside of the screws, and 6 of them ultimately had to be professionally extracted.

But I have a mostly Delta shop, already had the dust collection chute, and so I bought another one figuring some design and manufacturing improvements had been made. Not. Same experience with the knife retention screws this time breaking the tool provided by Delta to remove those screws. The hex heads are so rounded off on the inside I don't dare put them back in. I had to haul it in to have 4 screws professionally extracted. Those screws, incidentally, apparently aren't covered under warranty and charged out at[money amount] each at the Delta Factory Service Center. And the motor is making a suspicious growling sound -- after 12 hours of use! I'll live with my purchase mistake, and wince every time I turn it on, for the duration of what I'm expecting will be a remarkably short lifetime for this planer.

Buy something else. I should have...

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Planer!
I purchased the Delta 12 1/2" thickness planer with stand and am very pleased with its performance. Having previously rebuilt a DeWalt unit, I was reluctant to try an unfamiliar unit but relied on Delta's reputation. Warning! Be very careful in changing the cutter blades the first few times as they are very sharp and a bit small to handle at first. The settings and accuracy of the unit are excellent with depth cuts of no more than 3/64" which will not overwork the unit or dull the cutter blades. After planing some 35 board feet of maple, popular, and birch, I am still on the original blade edges. You won't go wrong with this unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Machine
I bought this in mar 2003 and have used it exstensively with
nothing less than exellent results. The finish quality, easy
setup, and outstanding power for such a small machine is nothing
less than you can expect from delta. For the smallshop,or inbetween shop, this powerhouse is a must! Buy it you won't be sorry. Also get the dusthood acc. with an elbow and use the suction part acc. of your leaf blower and you will have 0 yes I mean 0 woodchips & dust works excellent!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Machine / New trouble

Sure, you could spend a day in your shop building your own tenoning jig. Or you could spend the day making furniture with this one. Your choice. We know what we'd choose, that's for sure. Delta's universal jig fits any table saw that has a 3/8-by-3/4-inch miter slot and adapts to right- or left-tilting arbors. You'll get top-quality craftsmanship with the microfine-thread adjustment knob, allowing you to adjust width-of-cut settings to a hair for the snuggest possible tenon fit. We particularly like Delta's redesign of the handle. Most tenoning jigs we've used have one handle, sometimes up too high to offer good control. But Delta's replaced that with two, positioned at the jig's base, just where we always thought they ought to be. Another good innovation is the thumbscrew that lets you quick-release the hold-down clamp support. As for accuracy, it's hard to do better than this. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Roughly Made Jig
I bought this after using the older model and was very disappointed in the quality of the castings and the hardware. The old one, which is still available at a lower price, is a better made piece of equipment. The "deluxe" version is sloppier in its movements and reminds me of the junk we used to see out of China several years ago. Of course the simple operations required of this jig may not require it to be sophisticated but its still disapointing. I sent it back and bought the cheaper one from Delta which works great and I like the handle placement better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Acceptable value
This jig was purchased to be used on a late-model Unisaw, which it fits perfectly. It delivers very fine work. Many of these Chinese accessories have to be washed with solvent to remove the cosmolene, but that goes with the territory. The base had to be deburred, or it would scratch the table top, but I would expect to have to do that with an American-made tool nowadays. A few minor criticisms of the engineering: the jig will tilt, and as everyone has table saws with either tilting arbors or tilting tables, I question the utility of this feature, without which the tool would be much simpler---and presumably cheaper. There is a button which one pushes to disengage the female threads for the micrometer adjustment, making quick lateral movement possible. The spring which keeps the threads engaged is too weak, and using the micrometer in one direction is useless. What with inevitable backlash in such designs, I question the practicality of the micrometer. One of the handles is placed too close to the triangular knob which tightens the upper jig to the sled that rides on the saw table, making tightening clumsy. I wonder why Delta didn't just have the grand old tenoning attachment made in China, or else make this present design much simpler, and sell it for less than $60. Having said that, it does the job, rock solid, no chatter or slop. I would also very much like to see a guide rod with provision to read off the distance from the sawblade both inboard and outboard.

2-0 out of 5 stars Hardware is of poor quality
The jig itself does the job just fine. The fine tuning is acceptable. However, I was only able to make around 50-60 tenons on this jig before the set screw which holds the turn handle on gave out. It stripped entirely too easily, despite the fact that I was using the correct sized allen wrench to adjust it. The set screw often didn't stay set, so I affixed the proper sized allen wrench directly to the jig with a magnet. So, now, I'll need to drill out the hole and put in a new set screw.

The method for affixing the turn handle to the jig is sheer folly. I've checked out the Jet tenoning jig and, as of about a year ago anyway, had a much superior design. If I had it to do over again, I would pick up the Jet or Powermatic.

The deficiencies in this jig remind me of the problems with Delta's mortiser (which I thankfully steered clear of after using it in a class and noting the many problems with how Delta botched the set screw adjustments on it).

Delta makes some great table saws, but some of their other tools aren't as highly rated in my book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 34-184 Tenoning Jig
I had the identical experience as Frank McKee, bum screws in the mitre bar. Delta shipped a replacement bar with set screws separate, no questions asked. I was up and running in a week and the jig performs as advertised.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delta 34-184 Tenoning Jig
I bought the jig to speed the process of making tenons. For that purpose it does exactly what it says it will. The only reason I don't give it five stars is the quality of the screws used. When I went to adjust the miter bar two of the three hex screws stripped out, they are either very soft and of poor quality or put in with Loc Tight. One thing in favor of Delta. I contacted a local, California, factory service center. They have ordered the entire miter bar assembly and will send it to me to replace the current one. With the quick response for service it restores my faith in Delta. So far, I have had great luck with Delta Products... ... Read more

You've decided to tackle that remodeling project, but your mitersaw can't handle the tall baseboards and crown molding you've picked outfor the job. Relax, the DeWalt DW706 is up to the challenge. With thehighest vertical cutting capacity in its class, the 12-inch DW706 canpower through crown molding vertically up to 6-5/8 inches tall and basemolding up to 6 inches. Its flat cutting capacity is also impressive at8 inches. But its stock capacity isn't the only thing going for thissaw. A lightweight design (the saw weighs just 44 pounds) and built-incarrying handle make it portable enough to tote easily from job to job.Better yet, the saw's double-bevel design allows you to flip the bladerather than the materials you're cutting, letting you finish cuts moreaccurately. The DW706 also cuts 50-degree left and right miter angles.Easy adjustments, including 11 positive stops at the most common miterangles, save time and ensure greater precision, while a quiet motor andsmooth arm operation enhance overall user comfort, making this a greatsaw for day-in, day-out use. --Carl Thress ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Saw
Our small business specializes in finish trim carpentry. We have a number of miter saws to include the DeWalt DW708, DW705, Milwaukee Magnum 6496, and a Hitachi C10FC2. Each of these fine saws have unique qualities providing specific benefit.
Recently we purchased the DW706. Since purchasing the DW706 it is unquestionably the saw of choice when is comes to tall base and crown molding installation. The saw has a very smooth start and stops with little drop. It is accurate, has clear viewing areas and seems to take daily abuse to include being bounced in a trailer from job to job. We hesitated to buy at first when deciding to purchase, as we are less than satisfied with the compound accuracy of our DW708 specifically during full bevel operations. But the DW706 has impressed each of us. The only issue that keeps the saw from a five star rating is the lack of friendly release mechanism for the double bevel feature. I would not let it stop you from buying however. This is the best I've used to date.

5-0 out of 5 stars dewalt dw706 double bevel miter saw
has big capcity for a 12" miter saw accurate out of the box the dust bag works realy well has a premium carbide blade makes good sqaure cuts its realy a smooth saw ive been making cabinets for the past several years i would recomend it to every body it,s well worth the price

5-0 out of 5 stars another great product from Dewalt
I purchased the Dewalt dual bevel miter saw in May. I have been working on a solid Walnut computer desk and wanted a decent miter saw that would cut accurately and be big enough for the more chalenging jobs. I was split between the Dewalt and the Delta. After testing all the other brands they seemed to be the only two that would lock down tight in the preset angles. The Dewalt was almost two hundred over the Delta but it had the dual bevel feature(very nice) and the largest cutting capacity. I also like the no hassle return in thirty days. As a whole I am partial to this company but I have had some bad products from time to time. So I eventually went with the Dewalt. I could not be any happier. The features work great and it cuts smooth and accurate every time. Although I did have to slightly adjust the verticle stop on my model. It was off by about a 64 of a inch from factory. The procedure is spelled out very carefully in the manual and it goes by smoothly. The only real complaint I have is the lack of excessories. The clamp(a must)is fourty five and the extension is fourty. For the price of the saw I just think that Dewalt could put one of the two packaged with it. Otherwise a great saw and must for anyone that wants a good accurate compound miter saw.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Overall Saw
The Saw is great overall, however, the following are some drawbacks. Dust collects very rapidly on the Bevel gage making the gage hard to read. Also, the motor should have a slow start feature. The motor is so powerful that it actually kicks back when you press the motor trigger. For the price, "add-ons" should have been included. One may want to consider evaluating the new Delta 36-412. This saw was designed to complete with the DW706. I am not saying the Delta is better, just do the evaluation.

5-0 out of 5 stars ALL YOU NEED IN A MITER SAW
For $349.00 your getting a great Miter Saw. Very high fence...Strong motor...accurate cuts..and it can take a beating. If I need a wide cut I'll use my portable table saw....I don't need a sliding saw for that...and not to mention the extra WEIGHT. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Woodworker Hobby or Trim Tool
I got this package for very light duty use - woodworking shop projects and qtr-round molding on flooring. The nailer is a quality tool that sells for $120 everywhere so that makes the compressor only $75. I had a $15 coupon so the compressor was only $60 for me.
The compressor is so light that it is no problem carrying it. The tank pressure is 125 lbs and I set the tank outlet pressure to 90 lbs. It shoots about 10 brads before it cycles but you can keep shooting as it runs. I used 5/8" brads on molding on a shop project and 2" brads on floor qtr-round without a single problem. This sure saves time and doesn't mar the wood. It is pretty quiet and also looks good. Getting to small jobs and using this little tool is a pleasure. I will get an air blower tip for it; so far I'm satisfied.

3-0 out of 5 stars I used this product
I too had a problem with the 1/4 tubing that is attached to the compressor it cracked right where it bends I used to intall wainscotting and it worked fine....BUT you have to wait after 10 shots for it you build up presure. before you go at it again... I will try liquid steel to seal the crack. I think it cracked because I used it outside on a warm day and then the sun went down and got cool out since the tubing gets hot it must of cracked. overall for the price it worth it for small jobs

1-0 out of 5 stars don't buy it!
Thought this compressor would be the answer for smaller jobs. I bought the compressor only as I own senco guns already. It lasted only three small jobs, maybe 300 fasteners shot with this compressor and it stopped working. It's past the 90 days warrenty-I missed that, thought 1 year. don't buy this one. what a dissapointment!

1-0 out of 5 stars Think twice
This nailer came three days ago. Bummer. The compressor cannot build up pressure to run the nailer. I called Senco; they were insulting and implied I did something wrong. They proceeded to tell me to tighten bolts etc. None of it worked. Then they had the nerve to tell me to "just try to return it". I tried and did. Enough of them. Buy this product and deal with Senco at your own risk.

3-0 out of 5 stars compressor try's hard but comes up a bit short
I agree with the other reviewers who have given praise to this product. I felt the same way till mine broke after less than a months use.
Of course it was the compressor which broke, the part with the 90 day warranty. I did not catch that when I bought this.
Senco is a good company, but I think this little compressor is not quite up to the quality of their other products.
In my case it was the 1/4" copper tubing which brings the air to the tank that failed. It split where the tubing had been bent.
I have fixed it with some liquid steel, since I'm on a job with it, I'm hoping the repair lasts till I have time to replace to tubing.
I have used this to build two large bookcase and cabinet projects so far, and in doing so I have learned the compressors limitations. It does not do well
shooting two inch nails into MDF. It does not have the power to fully sink the nail into the material. I bought this combo for the light weight
of the compressor, so I guess there must be some compromises. This won't take the place of more powerful compressors,
but it is great for carrying to and from a job. I just hope I do not have problems with it in the future. I'm not sure I would
recommend this product, the 90 day warranty on the compressor is a big negative. especially since it seems to have some problems. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

While laser guides for miter saws have been available as aftermarket add-ons for a few years, this saw is one of the first we've seen from a major brand to incorporate lasers in the design of a saw. The saw itself is the same excellent 12-inch compound miter saw Porter-Cable has been selling without a laser. It has a powerful 15 amp motor, a sliding fence, integrated dust collection, and a comfortable grip. The tool is solidly constructed and designed to stand up to rigorous professional use. The laser system used on this saw works a little differently than some of the available aftermarket systems. Instead of making a single laser line on the lumber showing where the cut will be, this system projects two lines to show the material that will be removed by the kerf of the saw blade. So, as the saw is beveled, the space between the lines gets wider to accurately reflect the extra material taken out by the blade coming in at an angle. The lasers can be adjusted to match the blade you're working with. We were big fans of Porter-Cable's original 12-inch miter saw, and the addition of the twin laser system makes it that much better. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great power and capacity
I eagerly awaited the arrival of this saw which took about 6 days. When it arrived I assembled the saw (easy assembly- about 20 minutes)and put it to work building a deck around our pool. This saw makes cutting angles an easy task!! Great power and easy to read gauge. The saw was accurate out of the box and needed no adjustment. The twin lasers were adjusted perfectly, and they definately make building a quicker and more enjoyable task. The laser is typically easy to see except in bright sunlight...on really bright days I had to pass my hand over the cut area to create shade to see the laser. The saw cut through 4X4 and 2X6 lumber like they were butter, and drew several positive comments from the guys that were helping me. I would highly recommend this saw to anyone. I would have given it 5 stars if the laser was visible in bright sunlight-but I guess to be fair, I don't know of anything that shows up well in the midday sun. Solid, heavy, well made...you'll enjoy the saw....

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a must have
I purchased the porter cable 12 inch twin laser in Feb of 2003. Easy to setup never even had to look at the directions. The laser's and the presets are dead on right out of the box. The reason I purchased this saw was to install crown molding around the ceiling in our dining room. I have never even messed with crown molding. With presets for both the mitre and bevel this saw made me look like a pro. The job turned out perfect. The ease of use for this saw is amazing. My wife wanted an octagon frame for a mirror. She cut the pieces herself. With its dead on accuarcy, prestes at 22.5 degrees, and ease of use this saw made it easy for her. Another job well done. My daughter who has never used one surprised me when she showed me some molding she had cut on it. The molding was small with fine scrollwork embedded in it. No chipping or splitting just perfect 45's all around. This saw has everything going for it. Either in the home shop or on the jobsite it can make an amatur look like a pro or a pro more productive.

5-0 out of 5 stars nice saw
After much research I opted for this saw. I looked at sliding 10", Dual compound 12" and this compound 12" with and without the laser.
I wanted to be able to cut 4x4's with one pass as well as cut off some boards up to 6". That's sort-of a compomise in my criteria and the features are sort-of a compromise. Doesn't seem you can get everything in one saw. Although Delta now has a dual compound sliding 12" and DeWalt has one, but the Dewalt has a design flaw that I can't get over once I spotted it. It's flimsy locking mechanism that flexes the table out of adjustment. Adjustments are easy to make solidly on the Porter-Cable as well as the Delta without that flexing.
I like the laser more than I thought I would. I wish they put a laser on the 12" sliding, dual compound Delta. That would then seem to have everything.
They don't ship it with any clamps and the ones Porter-Cable make aren't as nice as the ones from dewalt. They aren't interchangable but I really haven't needed to clamp anything. As long as long boards are supported on the end I don't have any trouble holding them still with my hand.
There's some tear out that can be minimized by slowly finishing the cut and/or getting a different blade.
I like the laser more than I thought, it's really cool. Helps make some fine adjustments right on the table.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good tradesman tool
I have been a remodeler/carpenter for twenty-five years,so I fully intend to use this miter saw almost daily. I was looking for dependability, consistant cut quality, and of course value. I really don't need a slider type or dual compound capability, perhaps if I had these functions I would grow to appreciate them too. The PC/Delta miter saw is not light weight, but it is very stable and the rubber pads on the feet make it more so. My first project was to make my version of the 2x4 saw table that the manual shows[the base is designed to sit in it], it has since cut a variety of trim. The saw needed no tweaking, I was satisfied with the accuracy out of the box. I had no trouble assembling the extension table and fence slide. The table rotated easily on mine but was stiff on a couple that I tried at stores. It is adjustable like almost every feature. With daily use the saw will need some adjusting as it wears from use and gets banged around in the van. One feature that is not common with the Delta is the bevel scale which is stainless steel on the PC and much easier to see for me. I had been using a Dewalt CMS and it gave me good service and is very worn now. I thought of going with another one, but I was intrigued by the dual laser thing. I am becoming more far sighted and it is getting harder to see in dimmly lit situations [like when you work under temporary lights and spotlights]. So I thought what the heck and gave it a try. I have found it helpful. I put a 80t Freud on her and she does a good job. By the way that 2x4 saw table works real good and is cheaper and lighter than the metal type[$10.00 in 2x4 material].
All in all I am very pleased. Its a battleship, rock solid construction. I think it will hold up to whats ahead. I was fortunate to find one at a closeout sale for the same price as the Delta. There seems to be about a fifty dollar difference between the two-is it fifty bucks more for the name or the color? One twist is that Delta gives a two year warrenty and PC one.
Thumbs up from Ohio!

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST 12" CHOP SAW AVAILABLE, PERIOD!
I recently purchased this saw from Amazon and put it to the test. This saw came out in the end shining! Right from the start, the saw was easy to assemble right out of the box and the lasers were dead on right from the factory. The PC saw is much larger than the 12" DeWalt I was considering. The extension table is a nice feature as well. The only thing I wish is that Amazon carried the work clamp accessory that fits into the table on either side of the blade. I give this saw a full five stars partially because this saw and the Delta (same saw) are the only two saws that even have the laser option. Oh, I guess Craftsman offers the laser on their saws too. But since you are here reading this, you know why I pay no mention to the Playschool brand! To sum it up, this saw is built of high quality components and very easy to set up and use. Have no doubts in this saw. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

When it comes to jointers, there aren't a lot of differences among the leaders in the market. Like other manufacturers, Jet uses heavy-duty cast iron in the fence, jointer base, and infeed/outfeed tables and offers a three-blade drum and built-in 4-inch dust port. Their design, however, features a couple of innovations that changed our "jointers are jointers" mindset. While the infeed tables in other models can only be raised or lowered with a rod or lever system, this machine's design allows you to adjust both of the feed tables by rotating smooth, industrial-style hand wheels. This feature lends itself to easier tapers and gives you more control when you need to take off precise measurements, like 1/64 of an inch, a setting that can frustrate woodworkers lifting the arms up or down on other machines. The fence glides extremely smoothly throughout its range of motion and tilts both ways, but, where other brands offer fixed stops only at 45 and 90 degrees, Jet's jointer adjusts to quickly reproduce multiple cuts at any angle you find necessary. Driven by a 4,850 rpm, 1-horsepower induction motor completely encased in a welded steel stand, this jointer comes prewired for 115-volt outlets and can be converted to run off 230-volt sources. As a final touch, Jet designed the industrial start switch with holes behind the button for locking with a readily available Master Lock to keep coworkers or family members safe from accidental injury. --Justin Paul ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellenter Jointer for the money
I purchased this Jointer a week ago and rec'd it yesterday and promptly began setting it up. I run a small custom furniture and cabinet business and rely on quality equipment to complete each job. I'm a fan of both Jet and Delta machinery and own some of each so it was a tough decision on which unit to purchase. With the little testing that I've done thus far the Jet performs very well and I'm quite satisfied with my choice. My decsion towards the Jet was merely due to price and the features of having the hand wheels on the front vs. underneath the table. Other factors were the favorable reviews both on Amazon.com and magazine reviews.
Some features that I see could improve upon this tool would be a rack & pinion fence (the fence slide is not overly smooth) and the power buttons should be mounted above the table such as with the Delta. I'm not complaining as I was fully aware of all features before making my decision. If you're looking for a good quality Jointer then by all means this will satisfy your needs and I would recomend it to anyone. The only real downside is that an extra set of knives was not included but I would suggest replacing the stock ones with a set of Freud knives.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but flawed
I recently bought my new Jet JJ-CSX jointer. The fit and finish were excellent. I had chosen this model over the comparible Delta model. I liked the front adjustment wheels and the positive stops at 45 and 90 degress. This model was fairly easy to set up but I was missing some parts (screws) and had to call and have them shipped. I still have not received them. The tool performs well and the motor is very quiet and has plenty of guts to go thru some very hard lumber. The bad part is the snipe on almost every cut. All in all it is a fairley good tool and worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine little jointer
I researched 6" jointers and narrowed my search to the Delta or the Jet.

There's some disagreement as to the best way you adjust the tables and people have there favorite way to adjust the table and I listen to both arguments. I thought from the outset that I'd hate the lever and love the wheels.

The wheels on the Jet provide more precision while the Deltas lever seems more hit or miss, perhaps like having to tap a table saw fence in order to creep up on the adjustment.
When I went to try these two for myself I found the Delta to be extremely easy and smooth. Surprisingly accurate. I guess that may account for why many high-end jointers use a lever. The Jets wheels seem almost like a silly gimick in comparision. It's my personal first reaction when I tried them both, quite contrary to what I first assumed. I'm not saying there's a destinct advantage although it may seem so. It's my personal preference. Also note, that usually you leave the tables alone once you get them set.

Also, I originally liked the rack and pinion fence on the Delta. It's also higher than the Jets, but I haven't had any trouble at all with the Jet fence at all. I may have heard that the Delta fence might wear along part of the bed as you adjust it. With the Jets you have to lift it when you adjust it so you're not dragging it across the bed. That's actually a quicker action to perform. If you're joining edges you should move the fence to different positions across the cutter occasionally so you don't wear the blade in one set position.
The only benefit I could see with having this rack and pinion is sneaking up on a rabbet cut. Maybe the Rack and pinion fence looks more substantial, perhaps it's more solid if memory serves me.

Then there's the switch mounted higher on the Delta which I thought was a nice feature especially since I'm tall. Rather than the low cabinet switch on the Jet which seems very low.

When I finally saved up my money to buy a jointer I planned on going with Delta by a slim margin.
The Delta wasn't in stock and I was offered the Jet for $50 less plus a $50 rebate for buying the mobile base so I purchased it.

Assembly was very easy. the beds are heavy and you don't want to bang this around so it's to your advantage to get some help. Admittedly I did it all myself very carefully.
The beds were perfectly aligned with one another, no twist or bows. The motor is smooth, quiet with good power and no vibration.
Set up and alignments we're equally easy. My machine moved within the mobile base and I was taking only 1/16 - 1/32 cuts. It's the length of the board across the table and that downward push that can suddenly make that machine feel light when you actually use it. If I had the room or the extra money I think a nice 8" would provide enough heft as to overcome that but since I have niether here I am. If you can bolt it down permenantly that of coarse will take care of that. I've have learned to overcome this tendency on the mobile base, but it is a factor I have to be aware of when I'm joining.

Overall, I've used this machine so much now that i have wondered how I could have gone so long without it. It's been terrific.
So would I haved rather purchased the Delta now?
Some of the features that I once obsessed about aren't an issue once I began gaining practical experience using this machine and gained familiarity with all of its functions.
I saved some money as well, so no regrets.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
Shipping and packing were perfect. Machine was almost ready to go right out of the box. Instructions were easy to read and understand. A little cleaning with some kero, some minor adjustments to square the fence and set the infeed and outfeed tables and the machine was operating. Fit and finish were very good. What a joy to operate. Quite, smooth and the results are second to none. Highly recommend this machine to anyone considering purchasing a jointer.

5-0 out of 5 stars So far, great edges
I bought this unit to replace a Delta X5 that had too many problems out of the box including a bad motor. The Jet instantly gave me a better feeling as I unpacked and assembled it. The machine was much cleaner and the finish much better than the Delta. The cuts were as good if not better than the Delta. Overall, the Jet was a better machine all around for me. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars PC 513 lock mortiser
If you are a finish carpenter, door/hardware installer, or door shop that does a lot of mortise lock prep, this is THE tool! Together with the PC 517 Lock Face Template, this stuff preps wood doors for mortise locks quickly and accurately.

Why only 4 stars?

One: Price; it's pretty spendy. Purchase both tools and you spent something like $.... The occasional mortise lock installer should stay away from this equipment unless you think it might grow into a Specialty Skill.

Two: Adjustability; Adjusting back and forth between different lock configurations can be a hassle until you figure out the learning curve. The markings on the frame for mortise height, and the stop rod for mortise depth, are "not that accurate;" takes a bit of time and practice to figure this thing out.

And this: You spend this much on a fine tool, you sure don't want to lug it around in the cardboard box it came in. Build a nice wood box, a place for everything and everything in it's place. Why PC has the nerve to sell this tool for so much money and not provide a decent storage box, even if it's blow-molded plastic, is a mystery to me. Sign of the times, I guess. ... Read more

Torque, speed and great ergonomics: DeWalt pulled it all together in this 18-volt XRP 1/2-inch drill/driver. Even at its peak 500 inch-pounds of torque, you feel no twist. We're impressed, too, with the patented three-speed transmission (offering 0-450, 0-1,450 and 0-2,000) for whatever material you're drilling into. Its max speed of 2,000 rpm is 38 percent faster than high speed. We like the all-metal ratcheting chuck with carbide jaws because we've had a bit slip every now and then, and the jaws help keep a tight grip on the shank. It's well-balanced, comfortable to grip and a joy to use. ... Read more

Power, power and more power! The 18-volt 1/2-inch hammer drill/driver's high-torque motor churns out an impressive 500 inch-pounds of torque—imagine the jobs it could tackle. We were surprised by how good it feels in hand, thanks, we think, to its neatly balanced design that places the handle toward the center of the tool. A nice touch is the ratcheting chuck with carbide jaws for a superb hold on your bit. And the all-metal, three-speed transmission is so innovative that DeWalt patented it. All we know is that this is one powerhouse of a hammer drill/driver, no matter what mode it's in. The DC385 recip saw's keyless blade clamp wins points in our book for fast blade changes. And talk about fast—with its one-inch stroke length, it runs at 2,900 strokes per minute. Like the drill, it's well balanced and feels good in hand. It's compact, lightweight and offers great cutline visibility through the pivoting shoe's open top. Plus, we like that the blade will reverse for flush and plunge cutting. The circular saw slices into 2x4s like butter, and you can always see your cut because the blade's on the left. Bevel cuts are no sweat; the saw's easy to adjust and the scale's clear. The 18-volt cordless jigsaw was the industry's first, combining a three-position orbital blade action, 0-2000 strokes per minute variable speed and a one-inch stroke length. Like the recip saw, blade changes are keyless, fast and easy, whether you're loading universal or T-shank blades. We like how the keyless shoe slides backwards and forwards for maximum blade clearance on flush cuts in tight spaces. Hats off to DeWalt for the integrated sawdust blower, too. Finally, the flashlight's neck is super flexible, shedding light in just about any direction for up to three hours. This is a great collection of tools, essential for the contractor and perfect for the skilled do-it-yourselfer.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars best 18v jig
I have owned the bosch 18v jig saw and was very unhappy with it.
Jigsaws need to do one thing better than any other saw: cut curves and corners. The new dewalt jig is phenominal in all respects, its blade guidance system allows for the tightest curves I have ever cut with a jig saw and that includes the corded models.

this thing will cut 2" circles inside a 2x4!! and the plug will go in and out from both sides meaning the cut was perfectly perpendicular. I am a loyal milwaukee user but they don't provide a cordless jig so I bought this one.

The power is excellent the balance is near perfect and the keyless shoe is great, best jig saw I have ever used and I am a pro.

only down I can say is the blade does not really fall out when you pull the release lever, you need to pull it out, no biggie. ... Read more

So small, so light, but so powerful-—what a delight to use. It's just perfect for the professional upholsterer and the home do-it-yourselfer, too. Because it's so compact, it fits nicely into tight spaces, and its super light weight means no fatigue, even in the awkward positions upholsters can find themselves. We didn't experience any misfires or jams, but if they happen, just release the magazine and the driver blade guide retracts. We like the convenience of the end-load magazine, and because the staples are so thin, you get an impressive 185 loaded in the magazine, which of course means fewer stops to reload. And just like Porter-Cable's more ambitious nailers, this one's got a directional port to keep the exhaust off you and your workpiece. While it's in name an upholstery stapler, we think you'll find a lot more uses for this little worker.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great stapler, but a word of caution
Light and effective. It does its job as well as I could have hoped. Not a single jam that was not obviously my fault. I have spent several times the cost of this tool looking for a stapler that would do what this one does as well as it does. Why the enthusiasm? Well, most staplers not meant for construction site abuse are not very good. This one is.

A word of caution. This is not, nor was it ever intended to be, a construction stapler. The staples it is designed to use are not big enough nor thick enough to be of much use for construction site purposes. This is a professional grade upholstery stapler.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for insulation
I bought this stapler with the intention of using it to hang faced insulation. I wasn't sure if it would do the job or not but I figured I'd give it a shot. I was not disappointed. It has worked flawlessly through several thousand staples. As others have mentioned, the staples are not very thick, even smaller than standard T-50 staples, but for something like insulation where it's going to be covered up anyways, the staples work just fine. Plus, because they are thinner, it means more staples per strip and thus fewer reloads. The extended nose made it easy to get into tight corners that other staplers wouldn't have been able to. A bump-fire trigger would have made it even better, but I guess since it is technically an upholstery stapler that probably wouldn't make much sense. The only downfall I can see is that I couldn't find staples for it at any local hardware store, had to order them from here. With free shipping, though, that wasn't a big deal.

1-0 out of 5 stars woops
Call me stupid. Nowhere in the description did it mention that this tool is not electric.

2-0 out of 5 stars Porter Cable US58

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice stapler, but where is the case?
PC really cheaped out on this one. A plastic case would be nice, the cardboard box is not very hardy! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt's the best
A very portable solid saw. Looked at all the others like Delta, Craftsman, etc. and this saw was lighter than the rest. A must for me because it gets moved around alot. Also, the numbers on the miter gauge were not made of cardboard and tacked on like on other saws but, made of metal and easier to zero in on. A friend of mine had his Craftsman gauge fall off after only one week on the jobsite. I looked at many different saws and the DeWalt 703 saw is just built better and able to do more than the competition. Some other companies make lesser expensive saws but, you get what you pay for. Spend a little more and get the DeWalt. You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful and Portable
My 22 year old dewalt power miter saw was starting to show it's age, it's lack of compound mitering prevented me from cutting the large base and crown moldings common to new home constuction. I wanted another Dewalt but didn't want the size and weight of a 12 inch saw, I looked at other brands and visit tool forums and read all the reviews and still couldn't decide. Then dewalt cane out with the DW703. I checked it out at the stores read all the reviews and finally bought. I love it, first thing I did was to put a First quality precision trim blade on it do some very minor adjustments with a square and buy the crown molding stops. If your like me and have to cut a wide variety of different types of trim and need to set up work packup and move several times a day you need a saw thats powerful accurate and easy to transport, then the DW703 might be the saw for you the built in handle makes it a breeze to carry and it's small foot print doesn't take up much room in the back of your truck.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dewalt DW 703 Compound Miter Saw
After reading all the reviews on miter saws here, I decided on the Dewalt DW 703 10-inch compound miter saw. Originally, I had ordered a DW 706 ten months ago, but a bad wreck the same day of the order meant I had to send it back until I could be sure I could even use any saw, let alone one like the 706. At any rate, I ended up buying the smaller saw because of current health considerations.

The DW 703 is great for my immediate needs. It's lightweight but sturdier than the Hitachi 10-inch saw, something one can carry from worktable to pickup tailgate with the easy-carry handle, simple to use, is accurate, and changing the saw blade relatively uncomplicated, unlike the least expensive 10-inch Delta model I tried. In addition, the blade that comes with it cuts moulding like a knife slicing cold butter....clean and smooth without any splinters. I used tape on the moulding at first to eliminate any splinters, but realized that wasn't necessary, as there were no splinters without it.

The bevel clamp knob on the back is accessible, easy to work, and very stable, adding to the feeling of security when making bevel cuts. Both miter and bevel scales are easy to read and accurate. Although some reviewers have commented that the markings are only painted on and will wear off in time, I plan to take the added step of coating the markings with a clear sealant for added life.

Probably the best feature I've found is the light grip required on the operating handle. I can't see getting carpal tunnel syndrome from overuse of the handle, for it is truly comfortable to use, unlike some of the ones i tried that required both a hard grip on a safety device as well as a tough pull-down on the handle.

It's too bad that Hoover didn't buy out Black and Decker/Dewalt, for then this saw might have had a decently engineered dust spout and bag. For this reason, I am giving the saw only four stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good first miter saw
I found this to be a good machine. It required some tuning at first to get it to cut a perfect 90 deg. This adjustment is not simple to do on the machine but you only have to do it once.

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive All Around - Even for us "Weekend Warrior" types!
I received this model for Christmas and immediately put it to use building tables for other tools I received.

Mostly all I used it on was stud-grade 2x4's but it handled it with no problems. The automatic brake on the motor is a nice change after using table saws and power saws whose motors continue to whine for seconds after releasing the trigger.

I did find the dust collector all but useless as I still had to sweep up a good bit.

The bevel and angle adjustments seem backwards from other tools I've used, so I intuitively do the wrong thing. Everything glides smoothly though and that's nice.

The polished chrome housing is spiffy and significant giving it a solid weight.

All in all a nice tool. Probably better than I need, which I told my wife. Secretly though I'm glad she spent the money on the DeWalt over the Delta. ... Read more
