>I really appreciate the way that the Dremel can do what it does so quickly so well. It can carve letters, polish to a very high standard and grind metal as well as the capability to engrave metals as well. The fact that it does not take up a lot of room, especially when you consider the wide range of capabilities it has. >To turn the Dremel on you slide the switch to one of the numbers on the scale, the further along you go the faster the shaft rotates. You set the speed according to the one recommended in the instruction manual which has pictures to guide you as well. You then apply the tool to the surface you are working on and gently do the polishing etc., but not too hard as it can damage the tool. >I had my Dremel fitted with a optional chuck which makes bit changes faster and more convenient than the standard collet bits. You just loosen the chuck, put a bit in, re-tighten the chuck and select the right speed and you are ready to go. It also has a decent grip for easy and comfortable holding. It is quite simply a joy to use for craft. Special shafts can be fitted to the end as well, so there is little that has been missed out. > The flexible shaft lets me work in places where the tool can't be inserted especially some places in my jeep! It's also easier to hold the flexible shaft when working on small workpieces like fishing lures etc.
This kit includes a flexi-shaft, which helps you get into corners by extending the accessory bit using a long flexible shaft. You can buy the shaft separately if you already own the tool, but it's cheaper to get it with the kit if you're buying for the first time. The carrying case is attractive, and fits everything with room to spare. Some of the things you can do with your Dremel tool include drilling holes to hang pictures, putting lot numbers on your house, engraving your initials on items you don't want stolen, sharpening scissors and lawn mower blades, cleaning jewellery or golf clubs, giving sticking doors and windows a quick repair, cleaning silverware or brass or even mag rims, installing your car stereo and adding auto accessories to dress your car, trimming nails that are sticking up, regrooving damaged screw heads, sanding in hard to reach places, and so on. It is however a small tool, so you shouldn't expect it to sand a dining table like a belt sander, or cut out a large wood pattern like a scroll saw. You need a tiny spanner to change accessories, but it's included in the kit, along with different mandrels to hold the bits securely. There is a wide range of accessories available for even more tasks, and a great additional purchase is the tile cutting attachment, which allows you to do bathroom tile repairs with a lot less mess and guess work. The secret to the Dremel is the speed, with a range of varying speeds up to 35,000 rpm, which you control yourself. The instruction booklet is very detailed, and gives you lots of tips. Dremel also has an amazing website, with step by step how-to guides. Every home should have a Dremel Multipro
Once I done shot me a possum back behind Ol' Man Stapleton's barn and that ol' Dremel came in mighty handy, let me tell ya. I got Ol' Mr. Possum's fur coat off of him lickety split. That sharp ol' Dremel took the head and legs off as fine as ya please. Threw Mr. Possum in the pot, me an' the kinfolk had some mighty fine vittles that night, let me tell ya. This Dremel is also mighty useful for some doctorin' at home. Mama's prone to corns n' bunions, and we ain't have no money for the doctor. So I whipped out that ol' Dremel lickety-split and cut them bunions right off of Momma's foot! You shoulda heard her holla! But them nasty ol' bunions never came back, see Momma? Only thing I don't like about this ol' Dremel is it sounds kinda like a pig squealin'. I reckon I don't mind, cause then people don't never know if I'm out back whittlin', or havin' me some fun with some lost campers or other city slickers! Yeee Haw! ... Read more

Cue the Tormek.I looked for a long time at many sharpening machines and systems. I also spent time reading reviews on the various systems and methods out there. I love delta tools, and was about ready to get one of their sharpening centers when I suddenly went into overdrive about Tormek. So I said "what the hell" and bought what was being offered as a Cabinetmakers Package deal. I will never regret the decision. All I have told my woodworking friends is that if you do not own a Tormek, then you are using dull tools!! Period. This baby can put an edge on a chisel that is truly scary. I have never been able to obtain such an edge and a polish by hand. Now I am confident that there are those of you out there who can and do obtain comparable results by hand, but for me, I'll leave it in the hands of the expert, which in this case is the machine. But a few more jigs...hell...buy them all over time. don't feed the dog for a few weeks, or go to cloth diapers for the kid...just save a few bucks and get to sharpening. I have already saved money by sharpening my own planer and joiner knives several times, and you know how expensive those knives can be, and how active woodworking can eat 'em up.Now these babies are kept sharp and ready. And lathe tools? My God...it's like a whole new world. I feel like I was using a screwdriver to turn with before I got this tool. It puts such an edge on your lathe turning tools that it is even more of a pleasure to turn, and, naturally, requires less effort. I am nothing but satisfied with the tool. Pricey, yes. But you are paying for precision, accuracy, repeatability, and results. Just do it.
Here are the things I like: What I don't like: Overall, I'm extremely glad I got the Tormek. I don't like spending time sharpening my tools-I like to spend time using them. The Tormek allows me to get the onerous task of maintenance over and done with so I can move on.
Though the tools are sharp when you finish grinding, the leather honing wheel puts the finishing touch on a razor edge and cutting a thin curl across the end grain of a piece of wood is a simple matter. The instructions are clear and the machine well engineered. While a bit pricey for just home use, even hobby woodworkers would benefit from this investment. The tool is not difficult to use and I had my wife sharpen a couple chisels. There was no difference in the quality of the edges from those I did. I performed before and after tests with a chisel that appeared sharp. Initially it would cut a reasonably even curl going with the grain of the wood. After sharpening on the Tormek, it would cut the same, or even better, curl going across the grain and through a knot. The jigs are versatile enough to allow for sharpening a wide range of tools. The edges I obtained were, in nearly all cases, better than the factory edges on a new tool. I highly recommend this grinder, especially to anyone who regularly uses, planes, chisels, gouges, and woodturning tools. It is a heavy duty machine that will do all the manufacturer claimes, and more! You will wonder how you ever lived without it.

A week later it was on the door step and it came out of the box and went right to work on some local hardwoods. There is lots of power to turn the 3 inch belt. While I have checked the belt for running off ceter- it almost never runs off. And the graphite patten is flat and stays cool. It has only a few hours on it but I am very happy with it. I have not used the fence, but I will, and I wish I had ordered the clamps to tie it down to a table upside down. The only problem I have with the sander is the dust control. I have been using the dust bag and it is small, and dust puffs out of a small indentation near the dust nipple when lifting off or moving down on the wood. I have not tried to trouble-check the problem. A happy Bosch customer and a happy Ammazon.com customer.
Thank you Bosch--you sure make my life a lot better!!

Other than nail guns, NO it won't do much at 0.7 cu ft per min when paint spray guns need 10 times that, and a blow gun will empty the tank in 10 seconds or less. But seriously, this compressor gives me at least 10 shots from my 16 ga finish nailer before the motor kicks in; a couple more off of an 18 ga finish nailer, and as an acid test, I got 3 shots from a 3 1/4 inch framing nailer (not recommended but if all I need is 10 nails I'd rather carry this in - especially considering that my ripe old age keeps me from doing much serious hammering!) Last word, the first one I received had a leaky reed valve and it had to be replaced by Amazon - I'm very happy with the replacement and have used it on several job sites.

On the negative side, the dust collection is poor. The power is adequate for a home shop.
One of the steel arms (called a link) that raises and lowers the motor assembly was bent. I removed it and straightened it out. It appeared this was a factory defect since it did not happen during shipping. The unit was made in Taiwan. Quality control is poor at the assembly plant I guess. This is the main reason for 4 stars and not 5. The operation of the sander is very good. There is minimum vibration and noise during use. The dust bag included does a good job collecting most of the dust. It is easy to control the wood on the nice flat machined table. Make sure you get the free spindle set that is being included. It has an assortment of spindles that are needed. The one included is the narrow spindle and limits the abilities of this sander. Despite the minor problems that may have been unique to this one sander, I have to recommend it. It performs above average. And the price is right. ... Read more

Bosch makes a flush cutter also, and the advantage to that, is that the blades are available locally. The problem is that the Bosch is not also a sander, and scraper etc. Cost almost the same, and is a one use tool.
To make a long story short, I coughed up the money and bought the Fein sander and have never looked back. I rarely use my other sanders because this one can be used for almost any application. I have pulled up a old linolium floor with the floor tool (very easy) and done a lot of sanding. Nothing cuts wood better than this sander and the speed controls and comfortable position in your hand make it a winner. You also have no after effects of vibration when using this sander for long periods of time. Is it worth the money? Yes, every penny. Best tip? Make sure you order a hook and loop sanding head and sand paper. It is a much easier system if you sand a lot. Don't be cheap, buy the best. This Fein is very fine.
Finally, I figured I'd waited long enough, and I was about to start a big flooring job where I knew I'd be doing a lot of flush cutting of door jams and trim. So First, I'll say that I haven't tried out it's sanding capability. It's quite possible Addendum (29 June, 2004): I put the "E" cut blade on the other day with the

Of the tens of thousands of nails I hammered, this tool only failed twice, and that was because I needed to clean and oil the ram mechanism. Customer service was knowledgeable and helpful. I would advise buying the Porta-Nail Nail Punch and the Face Nailer Plate as well. Now that I am finished with my floor, I will be lending this nailer out to my father who plans on doing his own floor.
After about 5,000 nails, I needed to fine tune it again, but in almost 20,000 nails more, it has not needed any more adjusting. I prefer the mechanical nailers for pre-finished woods, because there is no sealer that goes on after nailing the floor down to seal gaps. With pre-finished floors, any gap that you leave is there for the life of the floor. Unless the board was warped very badly, the porta nailer was able to draw the floorboards up tight. The tool requires the use of the included mallet, which is very heavy, and can tire you out quickly. This isn't a tool problem, because you do need all the force the mallet delivers to drive the nail and draw the floor up tight. I'm very happy with the tool, and if I had to lay more flooring, I'd reach for it again without hesitation.

Because the motor is so powerful and on the right hand side, the saw spits wood chips upwards into your face as you're trying to follow the cut line. This saw needs a vacuum or dust bag attachment like other Porter circular saws have. The saw doesn't come with a carrying case, which is unfortunate. Likewise, the rip guide is necessary for making accurate cuts and should have been included with the saw. The motor is very quiet and the saw is steady when making cuts.
This is a pro's tool, so it doesn't have all the cutesy attachments that home users have come to expect. It will, with the appropriate blades, do a nice job on plexiglass and formica as well as wood. I'd recommend thin kerf blades with this, and keep 'em sharp. It's more a finish tool than anything else.
I have used it a few times on 3/4" stock (oak and pine) and found it to be not only sufficient but quite aggressive. Overall, I am nothing short of delighted with the product. I own a number of Porter Cable products (e.g.,cordless drill, profile sander and biscuit joiner)and have found all of them to be excellent tools. This one is OUTSTANDING. ... Read more

First off, this isn't made for handheld use if you plan on doing a lot of freehand work. Get a smaller, say 1 1/2 to 2 1/4 HP for that. I bought the plunge instead of the fixed base just in case I needed one in a pinch. At 21 pounds and with all the torque of a small diesel engine, it's somewhat of a chore to handle with any precision. I mounted mine on a router table and trust me, it will cut through anything you throw at it with ease. If you run large panel raising bits like I do, make sure you get the 7539 (variable speed) instead of the 7538. It will run these better at a slower speed. When you start up a 3 1/4" bit it sounds like a helocpter is hovering overhead. Much better and safer at 10 to 13000 RPM. Since I had already invested lots of $$$ in router bits, mounting this on a router table only made sense to me.

The longer the panel sits in clamps the better chance the glue has to "grab". To facilitate this I used two sets of clamps. I glued and assembled one panel in the first set of clamps, fired 5/8" pins into the joints and let that sit while I assembled a second panel in the second set of clamps. The clamps pull the joint together and the 5/8" long pins perfectly "pin" the tenon in the joint and hold the frame together once released from the clamps. Once the third panel was assembled I went back and removed the first panel from the clamps and set it aside to allow the glue to completely set, by the time I got back to the first panel the glue had just enough time to grab and the joint didn't budge. Just remember that they are 23 gauge pins and are there only to hold things together until the glue does it's job, so you can't be reefing on the joints until the glue has been completely set. In this alternating method I assembled all 56 panels in less than a day, totally cool! I estimated it would have taken the better part of a week to have done the same in the "traditional" way with only clamps. The PC pinner performed flawlessly even without "PC brand" pins and regardless of the material (Western Red Cedar is like hard butter and Iroko is just as hard and stringy as Elm) the pins were set perfectly each and every time at 100 psi. For everyone who has used nail guns, you do have a tendency to push down prior to firing a nail to push back the safety arm. This pinner has a trigger safety on it that you pull back with your finger, so there is no requirement to push down, just set the nose on the surface and pull the trigger. There is a bit of bounce back but I found that even on Western Red Cedar I could avoid a large "nose dint" by using care in how I held the gun against the surface of the material. I can see how this gun would be very easy to jamb as the pins have no head. The pins have an arrow on them indicating which way they get inserted in the gun for good reason. The ram is tiny and must be machined to very tight tolerances (which contributes greatly to the high cost of such a small and specialized tool), I would imagine that if the ram gets distorted or damaged in any way this gun will be problematic from there ever-after. So handle and use this tool with care, if ever there was a nail gun to put the prescribed drop of oil in prior to use this is it. I'm sure I will find a million other uses for this gun over time, but for now I'm very pleased that it worked like a charm for the purpose I bought if for. You've got to love it when a new tool pays for itself on the first job! One other piece of advice, this is NOT the gun for you if you are looking for a "nail gun". This is a "pinner" and should ONLY be used for that purpose. It can fire pins between 1/2" and 1" in length ONLY, most nail guns can fire nails from 3/4" to 2 1/2" in length. For general nailing buy a gun that fires 18 or 15 gauge nails, they are relatively cheap, much more durable and the nails are cheaper. Made in Taiwan yes, but made to very high standards so I have nothing disparaging to say on that front. Highly recommended.
One thing I have tried, though, that worked fine, is to find a tiny little knot that is near where I want to drive the pin and put it right at the center of it. The nose is so tiny that it's possible to locate the pin so accurately that you can put it smack in the center of these tiny little knots. The pin is much less noticeable there because people expect to see a variation of color at that point. It is true, though, that the nose mars the work if the work is soft, but one way to address that problem is to put a small piece of masking tape on the work over the area. Use a little extra pressure so the pin won't be driven proud of the work. After the pin is driving, remove the tape. Voila-no marring. The only real downside is the length of the pins-or lack thereof. You can't use it for really thick door or window trim, although I do, toward the thin side. There is one trick for this that I haven't tried but I think would work (keyhole slots with screws on the thick side; slide it in place, then secure with pins) but it's very labor intensive. I think PC should come with an 1.5 inch gun, and, when they do, give us full retail for our old guns in trade for it. (Right!)
