Can't Beat it!
For the price you can not beat the durability of this hammer. Having owned a consrtuction company. This is the one tool that withstood the abuse of employees. Only had to have it serviced once in the 11 years of ownership.

HR 3851? Not Bad!
Bought it, love it, plus it's well made with a "good" plastic case. Price is very good for the tool. Wish it had Rotation only as an option.

DW999K-2
It's great to finally have an 18-volt version available from DeWalt. Now I don't have to drag a 50' extension cord behind me every time I need to install Tapcon fasteners or lag shields to mount enclosures or conduit straps. I had considered the DeWalt DW004 24-volt hammer but didn't care for the extra bulk or the idea of having to change to another battery system, primarily because I already have and use a collection of other DeWalt 18-volt tools. The DW999 is fast and does hit surprisingly hard, even harder than the Bosch 24-volt, which I do not own but have had the opportunity to use frequently in the past. It does feel slightly nose heavy and unbalanced, with or without the battery installed, compared to the older corded Bosch 11212VSR (predecessor of the Bosch 11224VSR) that I'm used to. This means you need to apply a little more forearm when using a Condrive tool for fastening or when reaching out to drill one- handed from a ladder or platform. Speaking for myself, in this type of work situation, the D-handle as this tool has, is the only way to go. The rotation-only feature does add versatility and comes in handy for using an SDS to straight (geared) chuck adapter to drill wood or light metal, but a stop-rotation impact only feature would also have been nice to allow for light use of a scaling chisel to smooth out seams and remove slag on poured concrete walls for mounting electrical boxes or conduits. Because it is reversible though, my primary field-use for this tool is for installing 3/16" and ¼" Tapcon fasteners, ¼" to 3/8" conical masonry anchors and 3/8" to ½" lag shields with a maximum hole size of 5/8". Battery life for this type of work has been better than expected but it's still a good thing that the kit includes two XR packs because you will definitely need them both for any type of extended use. If you need to use it on the go a lot, the vehicle charger may also be a good investment. The plastic storage case interior is a little small and doesn't have much room to store bits, attachments or boxes of fasteners, so you'll need to allocate more storage space in your already overcrowded service vehicle for these items. Overall, I am pleased with the tools performance and even with the high price, which I feel is a lot for an SDS hammer with a 7/8" capacity rating, it has proven itself to be an asset, as most cordless tools are, through time saved and convenience. I would recommend it for individuals who routinely install light to medium duty small diameter fasteners and need to do this type of work in job site areas where power is either difficult to obtain or unavailable.

Two more unrelated productivity tools I would like to see DeWalt make available for my service truck are an 18-volt ½" heavy duty right-angle (RAD) drill similar to Milwaukee's 3109-21 and a 18-volt fluorescent area work light similar to Bosch's 3450K. ... Read more

A little weak.
If you really are going to drill alot of 1/2 holes and larger get a drill with more amperage. This drill looks like the big ones, but it's a pussy cat.

Versatile, compact and cost effective!
This tool does everything right; it's relatively light and small, yet packs a serious punch! I've used it to accurately knock out cracked bathroom tile fixtures in the hammer-only mode to hammer-drilling holes for gas lines for gas fireplaces. It comes with a very nice carrying case that holds practically everything I need for most jobs; safety glasses, earplugs, a large assortment of drill bits and demo tools. Although I have an assortment of rotary hammers large and small, this one is my favorite for medium size holes and chipping. I highly recommend this tool for anyone in the market for a lightweight 3 mode rotary hammer.

Great tool
I had a competitor's rotary hammer which I did not really care for. I was looking for a tool such as this from Porter-Cable for some time. It finally became available. The other tool was working, so no real good justification for buying a new Porter-Cable SDS. Well The 'other' tool ended up missing. I needed a tool right away.

This tool is balanced a lot better than the competitors, works fine, and all our power tools are being replaced with Porter-Cable as they are needed and become available.

What an awesome investment!!!
I am a handyman/ and I do alot of remodeling. I was doing alot of jobs that called for a hammer drill. I finally broke down and purchased one on a clearence sale. The Milwaukee SDS Rotary hammer drill. I believe that the manufacturor has underated this tool. It has three modes; drill, hammer drill and chisel. The chisel mode has multiple positions when you use the mode selector switch. The manufactor states that when your in chisel mode it will handle light chiseling. I beg to differ. I was remodeling an old bathroom that had 3 inch poured floors with set in porcelin tile. I watched as my partner with all his might and a hammer sweated through a short session of demo. I told him when he got tired to let me know. I got out the hammer drill and selected chisel mode. It took only minutes to demo the floor. The hammer drill punched through the floor like a hot knife through butter. We starred at the broken up floor with amazment. I had no sore muscles or banged up hands. I have used it for other jobs involving hardened bloch that I could barely chip with a small sledge hammer and the hammer drill tore through it without hesitation. The drill mode has alot of torque for those heavy drilling applications like landscape beams. There is a convertor chuck that allows you to use normal shank bits. Do not use cheap mason bits this drill will eat them up. The drill is capable of drilling a 4 inch diameter core hole in concrete. Now for the small complaint I have is; I am left handed and when I use the accessary handle it doesn't allow me to tighten it down without hitting the locking nut. The first thing you'll notice about Bosch's rotary hammer is its great ergonomics, which clearly were a major consideration in the design of the hammer. The grip and trigger mechanism are well integrated, especially the front grip, and long enough to accommodate different body styles (I've got long arms; my buddy is the opposite: we both liked the tool's feel). For a rotary hammer, design is especially critical during overhead and down-drilling operations, where fatigue can quickly rear its ugly head. The tool's vario-lock positioning is great; it gives you 36 different working angles to choose from so you can modify the tool to fit the application. Likewise, the hammer offers three operational modes: hammer only, rotation only, and hammer with rotation. Are there drawbacks? Not many. Quality, Power, Features.. It has it all
I bought what to my guess is the 220v version of this hammer. Exact same feature set and spec - except for the AC line.

I went out and bought it after a drain pipe, which was laid in concerete in my house started leaking, at first I started chiseling using a cold chisel and a sledge - few hours work to get to the pipe. Then I also had to reach another point in the pipe and decided that I had enough.
Breaking through the same thinkness of concrete using the Bosch hammer (in hammering only / rotation lock mode) took less then 10 minutes, and was very easy on the operator (me).

A few weeks later I used it to set three 3/4" anchors in a concrete wall in my building. Drilling the holes - 5 inches deep each, was a breeze.
Safety clutch worked very well. In fact, I was not even aware that this hammer had a safety clutch until the bit hit a reinforcement steel rod - rotation action instantly stopped, while hamerring action continued. I didn't feel even the slightest torque blow on my hands when it happened, and, pulling the bit back was fairly simple thanks to the fact that the hammering action still functioned.

Also, the internal reduction gear makes this tool a good choice for screw driving, it succeeded where similar power, but higher RPM, electrical drills had failed.
My unit came with an automatic three jaw chuck, which works great for steel and wood drill bits, as well as for screwdriver bits, and takes 10 seconcds or less to replace with the SDS-Plus chuck.

One nitpick - for non-professional use, the SDS bits can get pricy, especially the larger diameter, longer ones: a 16x400mm bit cost me .... (then again, for non-profession use, the whole story is somewhat expensive to begin with...)

I cannot testify for the durability of the tool, since I do not use it so often - you'll have to go for other reviews for that.

This is a well built, ergonomic, powerful, and feature laden tool, all feature are useful - no toy features. and, at least my unit, came in a quality plastic case that I'm using as a day-to-day toolbox for the hammer and it's accessories.

If you can afford it, cannot rent or borrow one when you need it, and do even occasional concrete drilling or chiseling - worth the price.

7/8 is plenty for aged concrete
I bought the 7/8" Bosch a few weeks ago to destroy an old concrete porch, clean a large vertical crack in my cement stairs, and to generally cause havoc with a badly designed and poorly executed fieldstone walk that surrounds my little 1938 Tudor Revival House. If you live in an aging concrete house, buy this tool.

I've used the larger Bosch hammers, but could not afford them. I can rent those when needed. This one is light, and has just enough "kick" on the hammer-only function to cut through the rather soft concrete that I'm working on.

I also bought the SDS-to-3-jaw chuck adapter, and that attachment renders a really nasty drill for pressure treated wood.

The tool itself, and the Bosch hammer drill bits and chisels are all high-quality tools. It's a pleasure to use them. The alternative, a cold chisel and baby sledge, is unthinkable now. ... Read more

Solidly built
I was impressed by the quality of the construction. It doesn't have the wobbly wheels I've seen on some hand trucks. The only reason I didn't give it a 5, is because I bought it to use as a garden cart, thinking the holders on the back would be perfect for small garden tools. That proved to be true, however it was not clear from the picture or the description that there is a metal post that extend up in the center of the portion that would normally be slid under the edge of a piece of furniture. Because I didn't get it to move furntiure, it was easy enough to overcome this particular feature, but it would have been nice to know before I bought it. ... Read more
