Many police departments standard issue Mag Lite products. The 2,3..etc D sized flashlights make reliable flashlights and their weight can also make them useful as a baton in a pinch. I have several different Mag Lights (the mini's, the 2, and a 5 D monster). They always work, the beam is generally good, and for the money, they are a good value. They are NOT the best flashlight ever made... but for 20-30-40 bucks, they are a great flashlight for about 99% of what people need flashlights for... If you REALLY need alot of quick light - i.e., you are planning to rely on this light for a tactical or self-defense situation, then I wouldn't buy a Mag Lite... ASP, Surefire (my favorite), Inova, etc., make much better flashlights for that situation. A Surefire C2 or Z2 model is about the size of a Mini-Mag but delivers about 5 times the light of the largest Mag LIte product... all without a focusable beam. The technology of SureFire is unparallelled, in my opine, but I think it is akin to comparing a Ferarri to a Ford... yeah, they're both cars, but that's about as far as the comparison should go... Also, most high-performance flashlights run for about an hour or so... Mag's will run longer. Also, you can go to any HD or hardware store and buy mags, batteries, lamps, etc.... try doing that with a SureFire... NOT. So there are comparative advantages and disadvantages to both... Mag's products are good... but you get what you pay for and not every flashlight is suitable for every application. If you are a LE officer, military, etc., it's unlikely you will want Mag Lite as the product you're going to trust your life to.... they just are not bright enough to stun someone in a life and death situation... If you want a decent reliable flashlight for home emergency use, then Mag LIte is the best product you can possibly buy. ...I own both for different reasons... I just wish I owned a Ford and a Ferarri too!

Have you ever wondered why a normal camcorder looks so bad on an HDTV? It's because an HDTV is very high resolution. When you connect a traditional camcorder (even a Mini DV), the TV sees a much smaller, comparatively low resolution picture and must scale it (digitally enlarge it) to fit the screen. It doesn't matter if you have a $400 low end cam or a $4000 high end cam... Scaling the picture on virtually any HDTV will ruin your camcorder picture. JVC solved this on the GR-HD1 with the world's first consumer HD camcorder. Basically, it's the first consumer camcorder ever that makes a picture which correctly fits a widescreen HDTV. It records a picture with 720 x 1280 dots, compared with 480 x 720 dots for a normal camcorder. The result? The detail & resolution is simply phennominal! The colors look great! The video is much more appealing to watch in widescreen because it more closely matches your natural field of vision. The only thing you need to be careful of is the frame rate. This shoots 720/30P. What that means is it takes video at 30 frames per second. As a result, if the camera uses too fast of a shutter speed you may see a "jitter" in things that move on-screen. The fix is really easy: Simply take the camcorder out of the "auto" mode and lock in a 1/30th of a second shutter speed. This eliminates the vast majority of the jitter. What you are left with is a superb high resolution video with a subtle "film-like" quality. You don't have to be Stephen Speilberg to appreciate this. This is the ideal camcorder for any type of family video. Think about the great stuff happening today that you'll want to be able to watch 10-20 years from now, and still be happy with the quality. If you own an HDTV, no other camcorder else even comes close! ... Read more

I am outraged that Amazon would re-ship a returned, defective item, but that's exactly what has happened. This makes me very wary of ordering from them again. I immediately ordered that UPS come to pick this up and take it back at no charge to me. Now I have to "wait 7-12 days" AFTER they get this POS back before I get a refund. Nice. Also, now that I've seen the way the rubber switch cover fails, I've decided not to get this product anyway. I'll have to look into another manufacturer.
The Streamlight Ultra Stinger Rechargable flashlight ROCKS!!! I am a gadget nut, and I have a very large number of flashlights. IMHO, there is no better all-around flashlight than Streamlight's Ultra Stinger. It truly is amazing how bright and light-weight this flashlight is. It puts out up to 75,000 candlepower yet weighs only 1.1 pounds. Not only is it bright, but you can focus the light to a small, penetrating beam that can be seen for miles. Don't let the light weight fool you, however. This flashlight feels rock-solid in your hand, and it can take a licking. I take mine running almost every night, and have dropped it on the pavement more than a few times, and it just keeps going. The Ultra Stinger is also durable and reliable. I've had my current model for over two years now, and the battery is still fine. I did have to replace the light bulb once, but that's not bad considering how many hours it's been in use and how many times I've recharged it. The only flashlight that even compares to the Ultra Stinger is the SureFire 10X Dominator. The Dominator weighs only 1.25 lbs and has a two-lamp assembly that allows you to run it at 60 lumens (roughly 36,000 CP by my calculations, about half the output of the Ultra Stinger) for up to 3 hours, or at an incredibly bright 500 lumens for up to 20 minutes. Yes, 500 lumens (or roughly 300,000 CP) is 4X brighter than the Ultra Stinger, but the light is UNFOCUSED, so the brightness is lost over any real distance as the light diffuses. When you factor in the ridiculously high price of the Dominator (the best price I could find on the Internet was $360!), you can see why I recommend the Streamlight as the overall champion. The Dominator is a great flashlight in its own right, of course, so probably the best idea is to get both. I have several other flashlights from Streamlight, and they are all very well-made. Nevertheless, whenever I want a nice bright flashlight, I always go for my Ultra Stinger. My only serious question about it is, how can Streamlight make the Ultra Stinger so bright and light-weight, while their other models don't even come close? The brightest flashlight in the SL- series is the SL-35, which weighs 2.8 pounds (almost 3X more than the Ultra Stinger) and puts out up to 40,000 CP (Slightly more than half that of the Ultra Stinger). Plus, it's more expensive! The MSPR on the SL-35 is $229.95 vs. $174.95 for the Ultra Stinger. That math doesn't add up. Other unbelievable examples: Streamlight's 3.3 pound 8-Watt Vulcan spotlight can generate up to 50,000 CP, and the 7.4 pound 20-Watt Litebox spotlight can kick out up to 70,000 CP. How is it even remotely possible that the Ultra Stinger, weighing in at 1.1 pounds and sporting a 10-Watt bulb, can out-shine these oversized hogs? The obvious answer is "runtime" - the Litebox can run at 20 Watts for up to 3.5 hours compared to a 1 hour runtime for the Ultra Stinger. Who cares - I'll take the Ultra Stinger every time! Streamlight should take their older lights off the market and replace them or update them with the better technology found in the Ultra Stinger, like they did with the new Stinger HP. The Stinger HP weighs 12.2 ounces and kicks out 40,000 CP. Plus, the beam can be focused, while the SL- series is "pre-focused". I'm sure that Streamlight is on the case -- the HP models are nice, and I really like the Pro Polymer LED lights, too. I just wish that they could come out with an affordable competitor to the $1,800 Maxabeam 6 million CP spotlight. BUY THIS FLASHLIGHT -- YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!!!
Some of the nice features of this light: It's very lightweight, very bright (75,000 candlepower), run time is very good for this much light output. Well made, quality construction. Some of the cons about this light: Plastic lens (seems only SureFire will give you a genuine Pyrex, glass lens these days) and the spot/flood range isn't really that much of a difference (Mag's spot/flood produces a SPOT or a FLOOD). The Streamlight has a very coarse adjustment range, really being all the same style output, with very LITTLE difference in the SPOT / FLOOD. This isn't as bad as it sounds as the light produced is a very good, pure white light, I'd just like to see more variation in the range, but I'm being picky here. One thing's for certain; this light is much better than Mag's rechargeable and a lesser light than SureFire's 8 or 9N rechargeable. But, it's also half the price of the SureFire and 80% less than SureFire's 10-X. So, I've got to give it 5 stars for being a great value, occupying a market not really served by either Mag or SureFire. If you're a contractor or home inspector, this light is THE value on the market in a bright, quality constructed rechargeable.
+'s: BRIGHT, rechargeable, lightweight, adjustable beam from spotlight to floodlight, good quality/workmanship (not that cheap plastic stuff!), pushbutton switch (on/off/momentary on), up to 1 hour between charges, small diameter (easy for people with small hands to hold). -'s: expensive, slightly long, charge time is long. This flashlight is a little large to take with you when walking the dog, but it's not too bulky so you can bring it if you want. This package from Amazon comes with both chargers (wall and car) so it's very convenient to throw it back in the charger when you are done using it. The charger is made so that you can place the flashlight into it by sliding it in from the top, or "snapping" it in from the front. A nice feature if you are limited on space when mounting the charger. I have one in the car to read those street signs on those dark roads. Just as good as a Q-Beam spotlight, but smaller. Would I get another one? Definitely! They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. ... Read more

It is comparable to a typical light that uses 2 C-cell batteries, but a smoother beam without black spots. A set of 4 AA batteries lasts for the better part of a week, as opposed to the old piece of garbage light you keep in the closet that only goes for about half of a day on 2 C batteries. If you live in an area where you can lose power for almost a whole day (or occassionally several days in a bad storm), this is a flashlight that you can actually use. Leave it on in the middle of the room until the power comes back so you don't trip on anything. They also make a model that uses C-cells, has 10 LEDs instead of 7, and lasts twice as long.

Then I was told to either return the defective product where it was purchased within 30 days and the retailer would replace it, or pay for shipping and insurance to send it to somewhere in New Jersey where I was told it may take them up to 30 days to look at it. I would never buy or reccommend any products from Casio.

Now for the not-so-good. The on switch in at the end of unit - inconvenient. The LED light is very different from the traditional flashlights and may not be what you expect. The light is not focused. Used outdoors, the diffuse light will illuminate I found relatively good up to only about 30 feet. The beam cannot be focused from a diffuse pattern to a sharp compact beam. My mag light is definitely better for outdoors. Overall, nice product but it serves a niche. Definitely not the only flashlight I would want - or need - to own.
It is broken and no longer working. I had it a week. Update 11/14/03-after several emails back and forth, the company did send a free replacement LED bulb unit. The flashlight works again. Only thing now is that they sent blue LED lights instead of the white ones I had originall purchased. I've raised the ranking one more star for their response, albeit flawed. Be careful it is fragile despite it's looks. Don't be fooled by claims by other reviewers who have not put it through a simple test by a child dropping it. ... Read more
