5-0 out of 5 stars Power, speed and accuracy
So, your tired of putting in screws one at a time and having to have someone to help hold drywall. Your prayers have been answered. This thing rocks! No cords. Incredible speed. 30 round clips. What more could you ask for. The batteries charge fast and you get 2 of them. I may be heavy for some but if you are man enough to handle it, the power is worth the weight. If you wish something lighter go with the 14 volt. It still has decent power but the 18 volt can power through decking as well as drywall. Happy hanging. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extreme time saver!
I have been doing a lot of drywalling recently while remodeling my home. For a while I tried to get by using a normal drill to do the screws (nailing drywall is a ridiculous pain). The problem was that I had a terrible time setting the screws to the right depth. I was using a couple of those special drill bits that advertise the ability to help set drywall screws. I learned my lesson. One big problem was I had to use different thicknesses of drywall with different applications.

Then I bought this beauty... Let me say this: If you are drywalling or planning to drywall soon stop reading this review and buy this now! Drywall went from being a necessary pain to being actually a bit fun. First off the screw gun's ability to set screw depth acurately to within 1 /64 of an inch is awesome. A little click to the right or left with the nozzle and you're ready to rock. Next, 6.5 amps of power... wooowww! This thing has the torque and speed to easily power drywall screws through my century old wood framing. My normal drill choked often on this. Thirdly, magnetic tip. You don't realize how nice this is until you are putting up drywall panels on a 10 foot ceiling. You can one hand those screws all over the place within reach of your ladder. Just don't let it make you so lazy you start tipping over your ladder in an attempt to reach that one last place just barely out of reach... Fourthly, rugged steel case. Fifthly, the ability to drive basically any screw anywhere, wood or metal, with all the included bits and attachments. Sixthly, it's Milwaukee. That means built to take whatever you can dish out and a lifetime waranty.

Don't drywall without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST EVER
This is the most powerful and best screwgun I have ever used it drives 4 inch screws with out even breathing hard ..if you are looking for a tool to do the right job this is the one.. you will pass this down to your son/daughter wonderful.. tool

5-0 out of 5 stars This tool packs POWER
I'm building a new workshop in the woods and have been using this tool to shoot screws, (both hexhead woodgrips and TEK). It is light weight and fits the hand nicely. I was wondering how it would fare when we started shooting the TEK screws into the steel framing -- IT WORKS GREAT! I have had just as much luck with the phillips screw driver head for other parts of the project.

There is something rewarding when you can set thousands of screws with a little click as the tool drives them exactly the same time-after-time. Don't be afraid to buy this one - I have three.

4-0 out of 5 stars Superb clutch!
The Milwaukee's superb clutch is one reason for buying this tool! The clutch operates very crisply; there is a momentary disengagement sound followed by complete silence from the clutch mechanism. By contrast, the clutch on my friend's DeWalt makes annoying noises (and vibrations) for as long as you have the motor on. Other good points: MADE IN THE USA, detachable power cord, handling, balance and position/location of the controls. Cons: 1) the unit arrived with lubrication leaking from the area where the motor is attached to the gears. This soiled the carry case and it continued for a couple of days before it eventually stopped. (I suspect that either a) it was over-lubricated or b) a seal broke and all of the lube leaked out.) 2) The rubber used for the detachable power cord is of the type that dirt, saw dust, etc. sticks to. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this purchase and can whole-heartedly recommend this tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super tool to have in hand
I was quite surprised to see Milwaukee introduce this tool.Particularly because in their drill line up, few new items have hit the pike lately and Milwaukee really is not known for their screw guns. However, that may change with this new product. Frankly, I think that Milwaukee builds the best drill motor out there, but traditionally, I have never thought that their drills are comfortable or well balanced to use all day. This new pitol grip changes that considerably. The new grip is small enough for most hands to feel that they can control it even if your body position is not ideal. The Quick-LocK cord is really a nice feature ( if you wear out, cutor nick the cord - it can be replaced with no tools or housing disassembly ), the trigger is of good quality, the reversing switch can be toggled easily while one-handing the screw gun and has no sharp eges, and the 0-2500 rpm speed range is acceptable for many fastening applications, including self drilling/ TEK type screws into metal. This kit is a new offering so durability is not proven, but Milwaukee's reputation should alleviate most concerns. This kit is appropriately named a Remodeler's kit that will come in handy for a variety of applications on the job or around the house. It is very comfortable, well made, comes standard with a variety of bits and sockets all in Milwaukee's standard metal case. I give it five because I believe the tool will endure years of projects and I think Milwaukee broke some new ground here, look for others to follow. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Drywall gun!
I've been hanging drywall for 25 years and this is the best gun out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great choice
I looked at several competitive products and chose this one. This is a very good tool. It is easy to handle as it is light, yet powerful, and the trigger is large. These features give you good control esp with larger screws. I have driven up to 3 inch screws with ease. The nosecone takes some practice to adjust, but once you figure it out, it performs very nicely. My only complaint is that the instructions provided are kind of sparse and you end up figuring out how to use the tool by yourself. Not a big issue, however, as the tool is very simple.

Overall, very satisfied!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Drywallers best gun REBORN!
This model is the exact same gutts as the no longer available Black and Decker H.D. Ind/Com. drywall screwgun that every long time Pro. loved. This model is also made exact exept for a black shell exterior by Grabber (#4063).I have also used the Dewalt DW274 it it is my second choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best in Class
This screwgun is awesome. It is by far the most powerful and comfortable screwgun out there. I love the nosecone. It keeps the depth right and doesn't fall off. Far superior than the Makita or the heavy and clunky Milwaukee screwguns. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Time and Back Saver
I have used the Miwaukee 6708-21 on many decks and subfloors and it has saved me time and pain.It is fantastic to be able to stand up straight and shoot in up to 20 screws per minute.Milwaukee also offers drill point screws to prevent spliting! My only complaints are that screws and bits may be hard to find locally and a bit will only last 500 - 1000 screws, but I wouldn't give it up for anything.BUY EXTRA BITS AND REPLACE WHEN PERFORMANCE DECREASES!!It is worth it!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars good torque but otherwise.......
I went out and got this for a deck I was putting up. After owning the DeWalt DW 257 for 24 hours and using it to screw down 5/8 pressure treated deck boards to 2X12 joists the thing wrung itself completely in half. Immagine the look on the clerks face when I returned the gear/ clutch assembly in one hand and the body in the other. Needless to say I got a refund and bought something else. While I love my DeWalt framing nailer and a DeWalt/ Emglo compressor I'm now leary of buying yellow....

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
I purchased the DW257 about a month ago and layed the boots to it immediatley. I intalled a new sub-floor on the already existing 3/4 inch floor. I used 3" floor screws to go into the house floor joists. Worked beautifully, the screws zipped right in. The depth adjuster worked great.

I have alot of drywalling to do as well. I have been using it for the drywall that I am now doing (waited to write this review untill I used it on drywall). Again, the screws zip right in, the depth adjustedment makes this tool dummy proof.

I have read a couple of the reviews above. You certainly have to learn how to hold and balance the tool in your hand for clean fastening (like any other tool). Once you do that... this tool is it!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dewalt DW257
I originally purchased the latest Type 3 version of the Dewalt DW257 VSR deck/drywall screwdriver primarily to fasten 1/4" and 1/2" concrete backerboard underlayment to plywood subflooring for tile work. It drives 1-1/4" and 1-5/8" backerboard screws flush to the surface quickly and easily with almost no effort. The DW257 is very well balanced and light weight, has a comfortable pistol grip and trigger position that make it easy to work with all day long. I like the large variable speed reversing trigger switch and the trigger lock location because it makes it virtually impossible to unintentionally lock the trigger in the on position while using the tool. The 6.2 amp motor is smooth and powerful and because it turns at only 2500 RPM's, it is very quite. I have used the DW257 to easily drive 3-1/2" and 4" deck screws flush to the surface of 2X PT lumber and yet, it can also be adjusted to flush set screws in 1/2" drywall and greenboard with no paper tear through. This makes for a very versatile tool that can handle a wide range of fastening tasks that a 4000 RPM drywall only screwdriver can't. When considering it's modest cost, the DW257 offers better value and performance than many of it competitors more expensive models.
The depth sensitive control is easy to adjust and once set, stays put. The metal tipped adjustment collar locks securely to the clutch housing and has never accidentally popped off while using the tool. The clutch operates smoothly and works the way it should.
Overall, I would recommend the DW257 to individuals who needs a powerful, well balanced combination deck/drywall screwdriver that is easy on the wrist and comfortable enough to work with all day.

1-0 out of 5 stars very disappointed
Bought this item new, never tried it because the nose piece was so cheep!!!! Could not adjust tip for drywall, could only set screws to deep. Plastic tip wouldn't even stay on screw gun and never used, what happens when if you used it at all the time. Big trouble if you ever dropped it by accident. I'am sending it back. I love all my other tools from Dewalt, would back them all up, but this one. I hope this isn't the way Dewalt is going with there products.

5-0 out of 5 stars One versatile tool
I've used a DW257 for a year and a half now, and would buy one again without hesitation. Because it has plenty of speed and control to hang rooms-ful of drywall, and torque enough at all speeds to drive 3" deck screws into seasoned lumber. This tool enables me to do the above precisely, and easily. It's going to make redoing the rest of my house, inside and out, much simpler and quicker than otherwise. Enjoyable, even. Do be sure to periodically pop off the depth-adjustment mechanism, and put a drop of machine oil on the bushings. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Porter-Cable gets into the deck and drywall businesses in a big way with this 6.8 amp screwdriver. Backed by 100-percent ball-bearing construction, this screwdriver boasts an aggressive "quiet" clutch that sets screws accurately and quickly in wood or metal studs. The reversible, variable-speed motor offers 0 to 2,500 rpm, and the nosepiece snaps on and off and features "set and forget" depth memory, letting you quickly dial in your countersink and not worry about it again. The driver feels right in the hand, too, with good balance, a soft grip, and a nicely integrated groove for your thumb and forefinger, making it very comfortable to operate with your hand directly behind the bit. A handy adjustable belt clip mounts to either side, which accommodates righties and lefties, and lets you quickly hook the tool to your belt when it's not in use, a more comfortable arrangement compared to the top-mounted clips you'll find on other brands. The screwdriver is built to last, too, with a strong, lightweight magnesium bearing plate, steel gears, a tough cast-aluminum gear housing, and a dust-sealed switch. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MaD PowER
Anything you set out to accomplish with this baby is a zip. The 2500 rpms are more than enough to drive screws up to 3 inches with no prob into rafters, decking, and drywall. The depth setter is accurate, and allows for proper penetration into drywall. Grip provides comfort, and the belt clip seems durable, and hasn't broke yet, (as it has on my Dewalt). I always reach for this one... get it?

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great!
I purchased this screw gun for my carpenter husband (he has over 16 years experience and loves this screw gun as well) to use when building our deck. I love this screw gun! I ended up using it to screw in over 4,000 screws in record time. I am not very good with the regular cordless drill driving in screws, but this is a dream come true! It was easy to use and I only used two bits for all 4,000 screws. To all of the men out there that say this doesn't work, I don't know what you were doing wrong but it worked wonderfully for this woman.

5-0 out of 5 stars Paid for itself on first job!
This is a great labor saving tool that I have used extensively. The Quik Drive works great if you just play by the same rules you would use with any screw gun. DON'T LET THE BIT GRIND! Quik Drive includes 2 free bits in every box of screws and this is more than enough if you don't let the bit spin and round off in the screw head. I can typically get through several boxes of screws on one bit. Stay on it and follow through, remember this is a screw gun and not a nail gun. If you start having trouble, check the bit and replace it if it is rounded. Do this and with a little practice, you can save 50-80% of your labor. This is one of the best tools I have ever used!

2-0 out of 5 stars Great when it works
Bought this screw gun to screw down subflooring on a house addition. Thought it would make a multiple day job on my knees , a one day job standing up. When it worked, the screw gun was great. Drove most screws flush. But it would soon start to strip screws and not drive them all the way in. I figured out that the bits were getting worn fast. As soon at the bit became worn, it wouldn't drive the screws all the way. Each box of screws comes with 2 bits, but that's not enough to even drive half a box - and the bits are small (special) not the standard 1/4 inch hex bits and hard to change out. I would recommend buying a couple of packs of bits for each box of screws you buy. I've got a drywall job coming up and I'll give it another chance, but right now I really wish I hadn't purchased this tool. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a true screw gun
A relative came over to help me install drywall in my basement and brought his Dewalt screw gun. After seeing him run through a box of screws I realized it was pointless for me to try to keep up with my drill and bit attachment. It was more efficient for me to measure and cut pieces and let him take care of the fasteners. I was fascinated at how he would keep the screw gun running with one hand and bring up screws from his apron with the other. Once he got going, his rate was one screw every one-two seconds. Jeff had to leave after a couple of hours but left the Dewalt for me. It was then that I learned the features that allowed for this lightning fast drywall installation.

When the trigger is depressed, the motor runs, but the tip does not turn until it is also pressed against the work surface. The motor runs at much higher RPM's than my drill resulting in the 1-5/8" screws disappearing into the drywall in a blink. The depth adjustment disengages the clutch at your predetermined setting resulting in perfectly placed screws every time. The drywall paper was perfectly dimpled, without breaking, at every screw. I also found that longer 3" screws installed through joists just as quickly and easily.

It turns out Jeff let me keep his "old" Dewalt because he had a few that he uses for work. I can't wait to use it on my upcoming deck project.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than a drill with a bit attachment.
With the built in clutch mechanism, there is no chance of stripping or twisting off the head off a screw. Simply set the depth adjustment, drive the screw, and wait for the clutch to engage. The screw will always be the perfect depth, every time. I was building a deck with someone else using a drill and was able to drive a good 25% more screws in the same amount of time since I didn't have to worry about depth and torque. Be sure and pick this one as it's the only one that comes with a case. You just can't go wrong with a good case -- you'll never loose the other head attachments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful for anything you want to drive
I had a chance to use this screwdriver this past weekend and found to have plenty of power to put drywall up and to put in deck screws through redwood decking it worked great. the set and forget nosepiece was handy. i can't say enough about this dewalt we own many dewalt and other brand tools and this dewalt does not let us down. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Power to Burn!
...This Milwaukee driver is perfect! If you are looking for real power, this is the driver! Hit the trigger, and it will almost twist your wrist. A very versatile tool, it will dimple drywall with zero damage, yet drive a screw (3 1/2") into 75+ year old studs without hesitation. The adjustment is able to change drop-off depths by 1/64". Once you set it up, it never changes. Changing bits is easy, too. The whole nose snaps off to change bits, and you don't lose your adjustment. This is one of my favorite features since my former drywall gun nose piece had to be screwed off to change bits, then readjusted. I was a little concerned about the low max RPM (2500 RPM). (Must be a guy thing!) This is more than enough speed. The trigger is very sensitive to pressure, so speed can be regulated easy. As usual, Milwaukee Tools are the best! The only drawback was delivery, not the tool. I ordered it on June 28th, and received it August 9th. Order it before you need it ... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool
This tool is a real powerhouse screwgun. I've only been through aboout 15 pounds of screws so far. However, when driving #10-3's into framing lumber or when drivine 1-1/4" 'rock screws, this tool is perfectly happy. The speed takes a little technique to handle, but when it comes, you realize just how much more effecient you become when building. The nose-cap is designed to pop-off for removing screws. I've found this to be very helpful in the unusual case that I have to un-do something. The tool is very durable and it works circles around any battery powered tool. Also, it's lighter than most screwguns so you can handle it all day without problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars For professionals of the trade
This tool is the greatest. I've been useing screwguns for 20 years and none can compare to this one. They say the clip breaks, none of mine out of 4 screwguns has. Maybe if some people didn't drop it on the ground the clip woulden't break. It will back out screws in reverse if you push to the side A little when you apply pressure. The speed of this screwgun has allowed me to hang approx 15 more 12' sheets per 8 hour day. It pays for itself very quickly at that rate. This product is the best ever made.

3-0 out of 5 stars well balanced gun
makita has produced a very comfortable gun to use.I have found it to be quite well ballanced especially when set in the lock on position, so that the trigger finger is on the upper part of the gun. the only draw back is that you have to remove the tip to remove screws. we will have to see how it holds up to the test of time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your time
This is not a good try for MAkita - My belt holder broke within 1st week. The nosecone must be adjusted back in order to remove screws, otherwise the clutch will not engage. Fortunately I got the makita rep to exchange it for a cordless drill after I screamed for having to pay 26.00 for a new belt clip.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Built and spins too fast
I am truly disapointed with the 6825. My belt clip has already broken off after two days work. The nosecone is cheap and will not hold up. Also, the 6000 rpm's are burning up my tips. I will certainly stay with my other dependable and tough DeWalt screwguns. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Porter-Cable gets into the screwdriver business in a big way with this 6.8 amp Teks driver. Backed by 100-percent ball-bearing construction, this driver boasts an aggressive "quiet" clutch that sets screws accurately and quickly, handling no. 14 wood, 1/4-inch thread cutting, and 1/4-inch self-tapping screws. A handy adjustable belt clip mounts to either side, which accommodates righties and lefties, and lets you quickly hook the tool to your belt when it's not in use, a more natural arrangement compared to the top-mounted clips you'll find on other brands. The driver is built to last, too, with a strong, lightweight magnesium bearing plate, steel gears, a tough cast-aluminum gear housing, and a dust-sealed switch. --Jon Groebner ... Read more
