5-0 out of 5 stars Mate the size to your work needs, but all of them are great
The big benefit to these is that you get true mobility out of them. While holding a piece of work, lined up, in one hand, you use these quick grips in the other hand to secure the work. If it slips while clamping, it is still a one handed tool to release it, and reclamp it again. Enables you to maintain a professional flow to your work. I feel awkward when using regular clamps in comparison. They require two hands. You could use a spring clamp to hold it together, then get another clamp to give it a final hold, but the quick grip saves you from having to do that.
Having these clamps in a few different sizes is beneficial as well. Small ones are more frequently used, and don't get in the way. The 33 1/2" is great when you need to hold larger projects together, and you can't effectively use two smaller ones to substitute. Additionally the macro clamps give you deeper jaws for a farther reach, enabling you to use them for securing work, to your radial arm saw table for example. They are fast enough to be used for almost any application. Sometimes I use them to secure work when sanding with a power sander. A couple squeezes and they are on, and one squeeze and they pop off.
After getting the smaller ones, and using them, I immediately order two of the 33 1/2" for larger projects, and for tie downs on equipment, including the drill press, and occasionally the radial arm saw.
Their is a small rubber stopper, which you can readily remove, in order to reverse the end, and make it a spreader as well. Something not needed very often, but difficult to achieve without one of these.
One note is that these have built in rubber pads, that completely cover the metal internal end. That is an advantage when you do not want to mar the wood. That and the fact that you can squeeze these with one hand, creates a mechanism that is easy to use, but not something that you would want to use for strength clamping. As a safety measure, these clamp sufficiently for most operations, but a threaded bar clamp, is stronger. So for those operations where extreme strength is needed, these are not the clamps to use. You sacrifice mountain holding strength for the ease of use. For example if I was using a large bit on the drill press, and drilling into metal, I would clamp it with something more. Even the slightest movement in an operation like that, could cause a snag, sending the piece into movement. If you are using just one of them, at the end of a 24" board, and decide to rout the other end, it will move on you. Securing it with two of them, and it is super tied down. You get my drift.
The big advantage of quick grip clamps, is that they handle wood beautifully, even for glue up operations. Hold workpieces more than securely to do the job in most applications, and are so handy that they deserve more than 5 stars. I would feel lost without them. It is another tool in the must have category.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Clamp, Good Size
This clamp uses the ingenius trigger grip design for unbelievable ease of use. This makes the clamp unbelievably easy to tighten using one hand. A few warnings about this particular product, however:

(1) Be sure the size is correct. I think the 18" size is the best all-around size. But, if you are doing very large projects, the 36" size may be better.

(2) The plastic construction makes the clamps best for holding items "approximately" in place. If you need total clamping for cutting precision, look elsewhere.

All in all, a good product if it is the right size, and used for the right purpose.

3-0 out of 5 stars Convenient, yes...Worth the hype...No Way
These clamps are easy to use. The adjust with one hand. They don't mar the wood. But they lack the clamping power of j-clamps or c-clamps. I have about 6 of them and they're great for holding a piece of wood to the workbench for routing or sanding, but that's about it. Don't even try using them for glue-ups. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I love this Clamp/spreader
As with the entire quick grip products the features that should entice you to buy and use the Quick-Grip 512QC Bar Clamp/Spreader are the ease of adjustment and the fact that it won't mar even the softest of wood yet still provide ample force for your project. Being able to use it as both a clamp and a spreader is a major Plus over the other clamps available. People with low hand strength or hand pain can use the trigger ratchet used for the adjustment with ease. It only requires a firm squeeze just over the pressure used for scissors.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Clamp in the Market!
I went out and bought a 12" 512QC Quick-Grip Bar clamp/spreader just a few days ago and felt I should have bought it a long time ago. I can do most of the clamping with one hand now. I am not a professional but this tool let me do my work much x faster. The grip is very strong. In one click you can loosen it and the other handle on top tightens it. The Rubber grips protects wood from being damaged. You don't need to insert anything between wood and the grip. I want to buy the bigger length ones when the need arise. Also this is very lightweight and strong. I think every wood working enthusiast or pro should have it

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick Grip clamps and spreaders for woodworking
I have been crafting fine cabnitry for many years now. In the process I have used virtually every clamp and strap device on the market. From Jegenson, strap clamps, spring grip, bar clamps (circular & retangular) to the racheting designs. All have particular advantages, but the best overall clamp that I have used for wood glueing and wookwrking is the quick grip. Some of their advantages are ease of clamping and or releaseing the mechanism itself. The clamp can also be quickly adjusted using one hand assuming that the clamp has been "gross" adjusted to the approximate size of the work piece. Gross adjustment is a simple one second process of sliding the statioanry end of the clamp down the staft to the approximate size of the work-piece. Equally easy to operate is the quick (hence the name) release button. It provides easy readjustments of tension or clamp position. Both of these features as esential whan working alone or with a complex assembly that requires pressure while the clamp is being applied. The weight of the clamps that I use the most (standard 36 and 24 inch clamps) are approxmiatly 2 and 2.5 lbs respectivly. These are the lightest clamps that I have used given their holding strength. They provide much more holding force than I have ever need for cabinet making with no apparent slippage over 24 hours (typ glue cure cycle). Their only limitation is their length. They come in standard lengths of 12, 18, 24, 36, and 50 inch lenghts. I guess the manufacturer assumes that if you wnat to build somehting bigger than 50 inches, you and prodably a professional and will have custom holddown hardware of your own... 5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely handy
Great clamps for two reasons. 1, you only need one hand. 2, you don't need to put blocks to prevent mares and dents.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Clamp, Good Size (You Decide)
This clamp uses the ingenius trigger grip design for unbelievable ease of use. This makes the clamp unbelievably easy to tighten using one hand. A few warnings about this particular product, however:

(1) Be sure the size is correct. I think the 24" size is probably a bit too big for most projects. I think the 18" size is the best all-around size. Personal preference and common usage really should make this decision for you.

(2) The plastic construction makes the clamps best for holding items "approximately" in place. If you need total clamping for cutting precision, look elsewhere.

All in all, a good product if it is the right size, and used for the right purpose. A good collection would probably include either this or the 18" size, the 36" size and the smallest size. If building such a collection, I would start with this or the 18" size. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked Great! Couldn't be Happier!
The molding on my car was falling off and I needed to glue it back on. I tried using duct tape, but that wasn't working.

I bought a Quick-Grip Bar Clamp to use for the job. It worked great. Very easy to use. Soft pad on the clamp did not scratch the paint.

I'd recommend this to anyone. Another great IRWIN product!

These are your typical hand-ratchet clamps with an added feature -- the ends are reversible so it can work as a spreader if needed. 5-0 out of 5 stars Model Builder's Essential
If you build scale models and other miniatures, you will find that two or more of these clamps are part of your essential kit. They are about the closest thing you will find to untiring fingers. They can hold softly or as firmly as any screw clamp. The parts and pads seem impervious to model making solvents and chemicals.

I also use them as a simple hand vice. Fixtures and jigs that utilize clamping can be taped to the jaws. The main bar can be replaced with a brass strip if you need a greater reach, but also need the smallness of these jaws. Household repairs? No. The slightly stouter Quick-Grips are much more rigid. These are for very light work and are the right tool for the delicate work of model building

I'd give a sixth star if I could!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good clamps, but there are better on the market!
These are handy little Quick-Grip micro clamps have a lot of gripping power for their small size and weight. The ability to use them as a spreader clamp (by reversing the front clamp pad) is a nice feature. I use mine for building small models and the odd little project. These would be great if you are also into crafts, as they are much easier to use than small c-clamps and generally weigh less. The best feature of this product is its ability to quickly adjust/clamp/release single-handedly. The yellow colored rubber jaws are great, dissipating the pressure over a large area so as not to damage your work, and best of all, glue will not readily adhere to them. I've exerted tremendous force with these clamps and have never had one slip or flex/deform under pressure. I have four of these in my shop and find them very useful.

Why did the Quick-Grip Micro's only receive 4 stars you might ask? The answer is simple - the Jorgensen micro "E-Z Hold II Mini Bar/Spreader Clamp" is a superior clamp in my opinion, because it has a greater capacity, is less expensive, and best of all, the front clamp pad is adjustable so you can "balance" the clamp on your project if need be. The E-Z Hold II mini will do everything the Quick-Grip micro's will, only quicker, because, unlike the Quick-Grip, the front pad on the E-Z Hold doesn't require any tools to remove or adjust it. This feature makes the Jorgensen E-Z Hold the superior "small" clamp. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good bargain
This tool(the Jorgenson Clamp and Spreader Clamp) compares very favorably with the Quick-Grip Quick change clamp and spreader but at a much lower price point for each length. The Jorgensen is well made and provides adequate clamping strength for most any application. The longer lengths tend to deflect under heavy pressure but no more than the Quick-Grip or other bar clamps with similar bar size. The Jorgenson is not as easy to rapidly position as the Quick-Grip due to the difference in the quick release mechanism but once both clamps are in the approximate location, both clamps become very similar in the amount of time and strength required to reach the final clamping pressure.

The bottome line is that the Jorgenson is very similar in ease of use to the Quick-Grip clamps at 75% of the price. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 3410 Clamps
I have both the Quick-Grip 12" and Jorgensen 3410 clamps and use them equally. Both are easy to setup and hold well. However when I used a slight bit of higher than normal pressure on the Jorgensen clamp it gave way. The hold mechanism failed. The clamp was replaced by the dealer with no problems but I have yet to experience this on a Quick-Grip. On the other hand when used within their limits they hold exceedingly well. The large pads protect the wood and the grip style works well for my applications. I will have no hesitation purchasing other sizes to use for my other projects. All this and the price is very reasonable. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Finger Biter
I find this clamp of modest use BUT be wary when you go to release it. It will nip your fingers more often than not if you have reaction times slower than a 'mongoose'.

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy clamp
This is a great clamp - I use it constantly. It works great as a spreader clamp, too. I like the in-line advancing handle. The in-line handle is much easier for me to use than the "pistol grip" style of other similar clamps. This would be a five star clamp except that the release mechanism is a little difficult to use sometimes. ... Read more
