1-0 out of 5 stars Bought 2 and both failed
The concept of the tool and the strength of the glue are good, but I the glue delivery is flawed. Despite following the instructions on capping the nozzle before it cooled, it filled and hardened on two separate attempts. Yes, I bought a second one, figuring I had done something wrong. In the second version the glue never stopped flowing until it fully engulfed the nozzle and hardened.

I found this product expensive and unacceptable.

1-0 out of 5 stars What they don't tell you
I wish I had seen the reviews on Amazon before I bought the kit.

When I finally read the (very) small print on the glue cartridge itself, I was very annoyed. It tells you that once opened you should use all of the glue within four weeks. You have to open the package to read this fact. There is no mention of it on any marketing blurb, the instructions or even the cartridge's external packaging. It seems the glue is sensitive to moisture and will set in the cartridge if you don't use it pronto. If I had known this, it would have stopped the purchase dead.

The Titebond website does explain (if you track it down in the FAQ's) that there are techniques you should use to ensure it does last AS LONG AS FOUR WEEKS. Great, that means if you don't know about this, it won't even last that long.

I now realize that this is a very special-purpose tool. It might work fine for BIG jobs where you need to make lots of fast setting and strong joints. But when will that job come along? I bet if I pull it out in about twenty years when I have such a job to do, I won't be able to find the glue on the market.

1-0 out of 5 stars just plain bad!
GREAT GLUE...but you need to find, not a better way, but ANY other way to get it out hot. First tube pressurized and blew out the back, second tube (after hhours of cleaning the tube slot) wouldnt come out the tip smoothly at all. i was'nt going for three strikes...this stuff is too hot to mess arround with. wait for a better model using the same glue to arive.

3-0 out of 5 stars the good, the bad, and the broken
I have had the glue kit for 2 years. THE GOOD. It has worked great for several custom counter top applications and small, quick repair jobs. THE BAD. The problem I had was after the glue had been heated and used several times, along with being about a month old, it would not liquify and come out of gun. Half of a tube of glue is garbage. THE BROKEN. After putting an unused tube in the gun, and heating it for 30 minutes, I tried dispensing glue. For some reason the glue didn't soften enough and an ear broke off where the gun locks together. Gun is now usless.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
The glue is fine, and if it worked I would be very happy. Unfortunately I have been unable to control the flow. On some tubes the glue pours out, which is messy and expensive. And other tubes it is so slow to get the glue out, that by the time you get enough out, it is already setting up. Very aggravating. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Stuck on This Glue !!
This glue has all the features that I am looking for in such a simple application, yet very critical to the final product if it fails!! It applies smooth and tacky, giving enough working time to allow for final adjustments. Just enough tackyness to allow for a fit to stick without moving until the clamps can be applied. If too much glue was applied, the water cleanup is important to avoid excess sanding before final staining process. Just a damp cloth will remove the excess glue and will not leave a "glue residue" on the wood surface.

The weatherproof feature allows use of this glue on both indoor and outdoor projects. It is excellent for that bird house, bat house or garden gnome that is exposed to the outdoor elements, but not continuously exposed to water.

The gallon size makes this the most economical buy. The large mouth bottle makes refilling the application glue bottle very simple and easy to do WITHOUT having to use a funnel.

No problems, no issues, just a great sticky product that holds!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best glue for money you can buy.
I've used more expensive glues before and stopped. This glue is just as good. There's plenty of working time. And best of all it's sandable. Feel comfortable creating joints without dowel or biscuits with Titebond II.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Glue for Damp Areas
This glue is great if you are making things that will be in damp areas. Don't mistake that for outdoor projects that are exposed to the weather. It has great working time and easily cleans up.

5-0 out of 5 stars titebond II
This glue is the real deal. Plenty of working time, and best of all it would not clog my belt sander even in heavily glued areas. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tests of Gorilla Glue are not representative of results
I've used Gorilla Glue for over seven years for both woodworking and construction. The people who wrote to say they comparative tested the glue against Titebond are also admitting they have limited knowledge. It appeared that on one test the guy did not clamp the wood together, so the joint failed, polyurethane glue expands as it cures. I once glued and lag screwed pressure treated lumber together, then decided to change the design in less than an hour. The wood broke beside the joints, but the joints all held.
Here's what I found: Elmer's or Titebond are both good for woodworking in most situations. (I prefer Elmer's because Titebond is so runny that it is messy.) However there are times for polyurethane glues like Gorilla Glue. Keep some on hand and use your judgement. For construction, I use Gorilla Glue in a lot of places where I used to use Liquid Nails because it spreads in the gaps of the lumber. Example: Laminating CDX plywood or 2x's to form beams. Liquid Nails stays where you put it creating it's own gaps between the layers, which weakens the assembly. (It's the friction between the two pieces of lumber that give them their combined strength, they are 'locked' together by the nails. Liquid Nails has body which tends to hold the pieces apart.) Gorilla Glue has much less body and expands to fill the areas where you did not apply the glue. This doesn't work as well for well machined small joints on hardwood. Carpenter's glue is better for this and is less messy. (Yes it is gooey, paint thinner or something hotter like laquer thinner will clean off most of it if it hasn't started to set.) But if you are doing a large area and can clamp, Gorilla Glue excels.
Use the wisdom God gave you and experiment. Remember, He not only gave you a spoon, but a knife and fork to eat with. You don't use a table saw to bore holes, do you? The various glues have varying best uses. I keep Gorilla Glue, Elmer's Carpenter Glue and Liquid Nails on hand. I even use Liquid Nails in my woodworking shop.

3-0 out of 5 stars Should be "Gooey Glue"
I tried Gorilla Glue because of its ability to take stain, and it does, however ....

Wear dispoable gloves when using this glue; stray glue turns into a stickey, gooey mess on your fingers. The directions say it can be removed from skin (except for the stain) with soap & water. Wrong! The only thing I found to work is a soak in the hottub for about a half hour after it dries.

It seemed to hold quite well, I was edge joining boards with biscuits. I applied the glue in the slots and soaked the biscuits in water first, briefly. I also applied a thin layer of glue on one board and wiped the other down with a damp cloth.

It does foam out of the joint excessively for about a half hour after you clamp things together. You must use a cloth or paper towel saturated with mineral spirits to keep the joint halfway cleaned up while it is tacky. After it set, I still had some excess that I was able to remove with a chisel. I sanded the remains, but I think a cabinet scraper would work better. The result is a thin bead of porous surface that will not sand as smooth as the wood. It takes a few layers of finish to smooth it over, sanding between coats.

The best results come if you use this glue VERY sparingly. You will have less squeeze-out and foaming to clean up. It will take some getting used to after using carpenters glue. It is similar to polyurethane glues in some respects. I will use it where I need water resistance, but for simplicity will stick to "white" glues for other applications.

5-0 out of 5 stars stronger
I tested this glue against Titebond II on soft and hard woods, and then after soaking the glue joints in water for twelve hours. The Gorilla glue was slightly stronger, both dry and when soaked. It also fills small cracks better as it expands as it dries. This can be a disadvantage as it needs to be sanded and scrapped when completely dry to remove the "foam expansion." The working time is not significantly different between the two glues. I use it for critical joints where brute strength is an issue and where the joint may get wet, but use Titebond II for others as it is less expensive and easier to clean up.

2-0 out of 5 stars Strange Stuff
I usually use Titebond, but, because of some rave reviews, I decided to try the Gorilla Glue. I went to it because I heard it gives you more working time. But after glueing up some boards, I gave them a test and found, to my absolute dismay, that I was able to pull the boards apart after the gorilla glue was dried! This is not supposed to happen. The directions tell you to moisten the surface first, which I did, but still, the bond was not strong enough for my taste.

Also, the glue is IMPOSSIBLE -- and I repeat -- IMPOSSIBLE to clean off your hands. You MUST wear rubber gloves if you use this stuff. I got some of this glue on my hands when I used it, and it literally took a week of scrubbing every day before it was all off. This would be OK if the glue was really outstanding, but I have my doubts.

I have decided to return to Titebond.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sorry Glue
I tried this glue next to Titebond. I glued 1 piece of Poplar to another piece of Poplar with each glue. Two hours later I tested both bonds. The Titebond held, the wood split. The Gorilla Glue did not hold, it pulled loose form the other piece of wood leaving a slick spot where it had dried. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GORILLA GRIP
I purchased this product by recommendation of a trusted hardware store owner to bond a loose plastic rain guard over the window of my GMC Sierra Z71 to the metal door frame. For six months I have tested the glue on various applications including wood, plastic steel, and aluminum in both land and marine environments.

This is a non-tacky liquid that requires only two things to make it work well using common sense methods to apply. Clamp/form where necessary and use water as a catylyst and bonding agent per instructions. I prefer giving the surfaces a light, fine spray of water with a good spray bottle.

A little goes a very long way. This is the most fascinating material since "aerogel". A little Gorilla will grow overnight, expanding, say, 399-400% at full cure into a final hard mass of structural air cells. Excess can be shaved or cut off and sanded, if required.

Other that the superb holding characteristics, the great wonder of this fluid polyurethane is its expansion capability to allow it to be used, also, as a filler/bonding material. I have a 12 ft. wide overhead garage door on my boathouse by-the-sea. On one horizontal section, where the glazing is stiled and railed, the wood around many of the hinge hardware has rotted. After removing the dust and fragments of the dead wood fibers, substantial areas of irregular shape remained void of any material. This poor condition makes it difficult to install new hardware and to find a surface to paint.

The solution is to clean and prep the area, spray the elements with water, with a glue brush the obscured interior areas and perimeter walls with some Gorilla. Next, cut a section of clear heavy platic sheeting, say, from a packaging bag from some item you recently bought, or a Zip-loc, of size with sufficient overlap. Then, solidly reinforce the damaged ares with a rigid, nailable sheeting to create a form, say, Luan underlayment, or equal, and tack this form to the tackable areas of the good wood. Create a fill/vent hole at the highest point on one side of the voided-to-fill area. Using the squeezable Gorilla bottle force the glue through the hole to fill, say, 1/3 of the voided volume. Sorry, but the exact amount is not known since the coefficent of expansion remains an unknown to this date, and may vary according to other elements of physics and science. But, this is pretty much a dummy-proof method. Let the project sit overnight. If you don't see an excess of Gorilla that has forced its way out the vent hole, then give another light spray shot of water through the hole and inject some more Gorilla through the hole, sit and let cure. Upon completion, cut access off, strip the form, sand, drill, if needed, and paint to finish. The extent of the area and conditions that this method of application can be used is unknown. Also, the expected shelf-life is unknown, so I bought the 8 oz. bottle. The integrity of the glue is still good after six months. Explore, test and share your results with others. This is a worthwhile product that works as I never expected.

If you have a lot of broken stuff, never leave home without your Gorilla! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The standard
This glue is the standard for most woodworking hobbyists. I buy this size bottle rather than bulk so that it gets used up in a reasonable period of time. There is generally a one shelf life for this type of glue to be most effective.

4-0 out of 5 stars Standard issue
This is a great glue that most every shop has. I would recommend the "extend" variety of this glue since it sets up fast, though. Cleans up much better than the new polyurethan glues that are becoming popular.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Glue, But Work Fast and With Care
I have used this glue for a number of projects, but it is a little difficult if you have a large area to spread glue on or a complex assembly to line up; it sets fairly quickly and gives you a very strong joint.

The biggest gripe I have is trying to clean up squeeze out, especially in inside corners. A wet towel will pick it up if you work quickly, but that tends to spread a thin coat of glue on a wider area. Scraping the wet glue up with a little shingle seems to work a little better. After it is dry, the wood that has even the smallest amount of this glue on it will not take stain evenly. The only solution is to sand or use a cabinet scraper to get to a layer with no glue.

Overall, this is a good, strong, versatile glue, but you should try to limit squeeze out to avoid cleanup problems. If you are going to paint your project, it is no problem, but if you want a natural wood look, this looks unnatural. I prefer polyurethane glues that do take stain (such as Gorilla, available on Amazon) when doing natural wood projects. Polyurethanes are also better all weather glues. They have a whole different set of quirks which I explained in my review of Gorilla Glue.

4-0 out of 5 stars Strong, But You've Got to Work Fast
This glue seems to be a staple amongst professional woodworkers. I like the bottle design, which squirts the glue in a more controlled fashion and is easier to clean. Here is my summary of pluses and minuses:

1. This glue is very strong.

2. The glue sets very quickly, so you have less working time.

3. If you get a lot of squeeze-out, it's difficult to clean the glue off the wood. Heavy sanding is necessary to remove traces of the glue.

But if you are careful, this glue pays off.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
Works very well. Franklin also has an "extended" open time version of Titebond II and its original formulation. If you're like me, the longer open times allow for much less hurried glue ups. I hope that Amazon considers carrying the extended versions! ... Read more
