Will Change Your Idea of Mowing
This summer, sick of my dirty, smelly, loud gas-powered mower, I decided to purchase a reel mower. As someone who considers himself to be environmentally friendly, I no longer felt comfortable using a polluting machine on my lawn. At the same time, I didn't want to turn lawn mowing into a huge, difficult task. After researching every model on the market, I decided I would give the Scotts 2000-20 reel mower a try. My idea of lawn mowing has completely changed. What used to be a tedious, annoying task is now pleasant and relaxing, due to the ease of use and functionality of this mower. Out of the box, it is very clear how to put this mower together, and it should take no more than about 30 minutes to get the assembly done. Just remember to put some dishwashing detergent inside the rubber handle cover before you slide it on. Then you're ready to go. The height adjustment, which is located near one of the rear wheels, is very easy to access: you simply push a lever in and slide it to the correct height level. The height levels are clearly marked right on a dial (a lot easier than having to get out your wrench and screwdriver for most gas-powered mowers). In actual cutting, this mower is very smooth. With minimal energy, the blades spin with good speed and torque, easily cutting the grass down to size. I have a somewhat weedy lawn, and I was concerned that this mower might bog down, but it cuts everything with the same smoothness. My lawn also has several uneven spots, but this mower handled that nicely as well. The rear wheels keep the mower balanced as you push it. If you push faster, of course, the blades will run faster. However, at a casual pace, the blades definitely spin fast enough to take care of a typical lawn. I have even "let my lawn go" a couple of times this summer (it grew to about 6" in height at one point), but the mower handles it just fine. As you're mowing, you'll notice that there is a lot less dust flying around, no smell of fumes, and you can listen to birds and natural sounds the entire time you're outside. This reel mower cuts the grass more cleanly for sure -- you can see that the grass is greener when you're done, without brown tips. When I cut my lawn, I leave the cuttings there and allow them to mulch into the soil. The mower is light enough to lift and carry into a storage area. You don't have to keep oil and gas around, so this mower takes up the minimal amount of space. Here are the only disadvantages to this mower: (1) You can only get about 6" to an edge; (2) If a stick gets into the blade, you have to stop and pull it out; (3) You will not be visiting the local lawnmower repair shop every season for a tune up, spark plugs, air filter, and any number of other unpredictable problems. Since I started using this mower, several people have asked me if it's more difficult to use, if it's slower, or cuts worse. I assume potential buyers are asking the same questions. I will venture to say that it is actually JUST AS EASY TO USE A REEL MOWER AS IT IS TO USE A GAS-POWERED MODEL. There is NOTHING about a gas-powered mower than makes it easier to use, and gas-powered mowers do not save any time, espcially when you consider all the peripheral needs of owning one. Overall, this is an example of a simple, low-tech solution to a common need.

Makes mowing fun!
This is the 2nd year that I've used this mower, and I STILL LOVE IT! No more hassles in the spring, wondering if the mower will start, having to tune it up, taking it in for repairs, etc. This mower STARTS EVERY TIME!!! And for a great, low price, compared with the price of a gas or electric-powered mower.

And IT MAKES MOWING PLEASANT - no more walking behind a smelly, smoking, noisy machine! I actually look forward to mowing instead of dreading it!

Mechanically, it's easy to adjust the height, and it does have a pretty high maximum cutting height, unlike the "old" vintage push-reel mowers. The width is also greater than most vintage push-reel mowers. I do oil the blades after every use (with a cloth and WD-40) to keep the blades clean and to resist corrosion, and I will probably need to sharpen the blades at some point. Has anyone tried the American Lawn Mower sharpening kit?

The down-side: if you want a perfectly even-cut lawn (which I don't care about), this is not the mower for you. It misses a few blades of grass (but probably gets them the next time), so the lawn is not "perfect", but I don't care. It cuts cleanly, and my lawn stays an "appropriate" height and looks lush and green. The other downside is that I can't let the grass get too long, so I might have to cut every 5 days. I sometimes go over the lawn twice, once at a greater height and then down to a shorter height. But that's probably better for the grass anyway.

Now mowing is a pleasant experience and not something that I dread. It gives me a chance to spend time outdoors, which I would be doing anyway with a motorized mower. It does require a little effort to push, but not much. Besides, I feel that I've gotten a bit of a workout,as I get my heart rate up a bit! And, I can still hear the birds sing while I'm mowing, and I feel great that I'm not disturbing my neighbors when I mow at ANY TIME of the day.

THE BEST THING IS: Since I'm using a mower that does NOT emit CO2 and other "pollutants", I FEEL GREAT that I'm not contributing to poor air quality, or emitting green house gases that contribute to global warming when I mow! I've heard that the emissions from one hour of mowing with a gas-powered mower are equal to driving 300 MILES!!! Of course, you can buy a mower with a more efficient motor - for $500 - 1000!!! But why, when you can buy this totally clean, push reel mower for a fraction of the cost!

Safer, quieter mower. Definitely worth a consideration.
I just eagerly put my reel mower together, having spent much time researching whether I should get one or not. The reviews on here were especially helpful. In short, I'm glad I bought it.

Pluses:
1. Safer: no flying rocks or other projectiles, your kids won't sneak up on you and get extremities caught in the blade the way they do with gas mowers. As an ED physician, this is an especially important observation that I don't think had been pointed out before.
2. Quieter: my neighbors are thankful, as are my ears
3. No smoke, no gas fumes
4. Easier handling than gas mower, lighter, can get in crevices more easily and safely
5. Better for environment, save on gas, oil.
6. Easier to start-up; I'm more likely to cut the grass with this mower
7. Doesn't take any longer to mow then lawn vs. a gas mower (and if you gas mower is finicky, will probalby be faster).

Negatives:
1. Requires a bit more elbow grease with thick grass, especially on hills. Not a lot more, but a bit more (good exercise though).
2. Tall grass/weeds will not be easily cut with this; anything taller than 6-8 inches probably won't spring back up in time for the blades to cut them
3. 20" cutting swath a bit more narrow than your average gas mower, so you may need a few more passes. On flat land, it's no problem whatsoever.

I'm happy with this mower, how well it holds up remains to be seen. Construction quality is decent, the price and free shipping can't be beat. Haven't tried the $200+ models of reel mowers, so I can't comment.

If you have a smaller (< 0.5 acre), relatively flat yard, what are you waiting for?! If you like to think of mowing the lawn as exercise and have a bit larger yard, this may also be for you. Lastly, if you have kids and safety is a concern, (yes, you Volvo all-wheel-drive owners out there), a reel mower is also the way to go.

I love the idea, but . . .
I really wanted to like this mower, especially as I'm somewhat of an eco-friendly person. And I'm sure that, under the right conditions, it is fabulous. But for my average-sized St. Augustine grass lawn in Houston, Texas, this mower was one big pain in the tookus.

Here, the grass grows very quickly, thanks to our hot and humid summers. The mower was not able to handle one week's worth of growth without leaving about every third blade untouched. Even doing multiple passes hardly helped. I also tried various height settings, but it had no real effect.

I tried mowing slightly more often, but the overall quality of the lawn cut barely improved. (Sorry, I don't have the time or the inclination to mow more often than every 5 days, nor do I want to have to take multiple passes over the same stretch of grass to ensure that all the grass gets cut.)

So maybe on a small lawn, on a certain kind of grass, where the climate does not cause rapid lawn growth, this mower is what you need. But not in Southeast Texas, nor should I think anywhere in the Deep South.

You Can't Go Home Again ...
I wanted desperately to love this mower. I remember my grandfather and several uncles had reel mowers that I would use as a child. There's something about a reel mower that brings us back to simpler times. Plus, no gasoline is needed, they're quiet, and you just might get some exercise.

Then reality barges in: this reel mower just doesn't cut the lawn very well. Weeds or crabgrass do not get cut. As other reviewers have noted, you MUST have a perfect, weed-free lawn or you will likely be disappointed. Plus, I was surprised at how LOUD the mower is. The "shearing" sound it makes is at least as loud as an electric mower (which I now own).

Also, take a moment to scroll to a June 4, 2002 review of this product titled "A Metaphor For Socialism" where the reviewer discusses his "commie mower." The review is hilarious (and I agree!).

Bottom line: borrow a reel mower first if at all possible and give it a try. Based on my experience, you should be able to pick up a used one as well. ... Read more

Quiter than Blueair
I have severe asthma and have been VERY pleased with the 04163 Hamilton Beach Air Purifier. I'm not sure what planet the negative reveiwers are from but I investigated all the options regardless of price. I went by Sears and looked at the Kenmore. The reviewer who liked it must work for Sears because it isn't even in the same ballpark as the Hamilton Beach. I briefly bought and returned a BlueAir which cost twice as much and is supposed to be the quietest. Instead it has an irritating high pitched whine that oscillates and would be better utilized as a torture device. The Hamilton Beach, on the other hand, is not only quiet, but the white noise it makes is actually soporific. I prefer to sleep with it on and it runs 24/7. I use to have a constant problem with mold in my master bathroom, but the Ultraviolet light on the Hamilton Beach has kept it from returning. The other day I chased my golden retriever into the bedroom with ear cleaner and to my surprise the automatic fan smelled it, and dealt with it, turning the fan on automatically to a higher setting briefly. I couldn't even smell it myself. To describe it's air cleaing capability, I will just end by saying this, the reason I am on this site is I am getting ready to buy a second Hamilton Beach for my office.

Pretty Good, For Its Price and Intended Purpose
Haven't had it for very long, just a couple of months, but I like it. I had a Honeywell room unit that was okay, but I had no idea how well it was working. With the HB, the air sensor gives you some idea of how well it's working. When first hooked up, the HB showed that the Honeywell was doing a good job of cleaning. At first, I thought maybe I should have just stayed with the Honeywell. I had initially stayed away from using the UV light, after reading that it didn't do anything. Wrong. When I finally switched on the UV light, a lot of my nighttime nasal congestion disappeared. That feature, plus the sensor, makes this model a 4- rather than 3-star product. (Keep in mind tthat this is a one-room unit and not intended for people with severe allergies.)

Seems to have a small but noticeable effect on keeping dust down.

Whisper Quiet ... isn't. But it's no louder than the Honeywell. I also selected Super Saver shipping, saved some money, and got it in five business days. If this unit lasts another year without problems, I'll buy another for another room in my house.

Works great but noisy
I have been using this product for a year now with great results. It really does seem to clean the air and has improved my allergies. The filters are extremely easy to replace when necessary. My only complaint is that it is noisy, too noisy for me to use when I am sleeping.

Very Impressed
It has been 3 months since I received the air purifier, one word, WOW.

For over 3 years, I have suffered from postnasal drip and congestion every morning due to minor dust allergies. I have noticed this has progressively gotten worse over this period. In an effort to remedy this situation, I was more diligent in dusting and cleaning my apartment and I visited my doctor a few times over the past few years. I was prescribed allergy pills and steroids in an effort to cure me, nothing worked.

I finally decided to buy an air purifier as general means of breathing cleaner air. I selected this one based on the reviews and comments others reported and was not disappointed. Literally, the first night I used the purifier, it cured my postnasal drip problem. The morning after, my nasal passage was clear and dry. I could breathe!!! Now every night before bed, I turn on my purifier and every morning now, I wake up clear and congestion free. I have even noticed when I am away from my purifier/apartment, the congestion returns.

Now to review the product itself... I must say the gadget-lover in me, opted for the UV light and digital readout of this particular model. Honestly, I probably could have done without the UV light and digital readout. There have been nights where I forgot to turn on the UV light and still woke up fine, perhaps it may be more effective in the winter when there are more germs flying around. The only semi-annoying thing is the device does not remember the UV setting when you turn it off. With the digital readout, I think I could have done without it. As I said, I love gadgets and features like this. However, it does work though. For example, when I open my window, it quickly determines the air is much dirtier and reacts accordingly. How smart!!!

People have noted that the purifier is very noisy. I think this is a purely subjective matter. I live in NYC on a ninth floor apartment off the East River on the FDR Drive. I am accustom to a certain amount of noise. I am subject to varying levels of car and wind noise 24/7. Concerning the purifier, I typically run it at low speed each night (I only run it at night). It is positioned at the foot of my bed. IMHO, using the lowest speed is no noisier than running an air conditioner at low speed. After a couple nights, it became white noise and is hardly noticeable to me now.

As far as size goes, I was a bit surprised how large it is but considering the size of the HEPA filter. It is not that bad in comparison. I am sure the larger size helps in better coverage of a large sized room.

The only negative I could come up with is the price (I paid about $140) but, given my success with the purifier, I cannot really claim this as a real fault. After 3 months, I am still on the original HEPA filter. The carbon filter I actually rinsed off the dust with some running water a couple times. It is a bit of a messy process but seems effective. I recently ran the built-in test on the filters and it passed. The replacement HEPA filter is a bit pricey; I think it should cost a lot less. They run about $40 to $50 each while the replacement carbon filters run three for $10.

Overall, I am very, very, very happy with my purchase. The money I paid was worth it. I can breathe!!! However, if can settle for the smaller size and/or without the digital readout, just get a lower-end model which sells for much less. The most important feature is the HEPA filter. ... Read more

Lay it Down
I've owned this saw for over 5 years now and will most likely grab another one for the crew. It doesn't get anymore percise than this unit.We work on exclusive homes on a daily basis that are loaded with sizeable moldings.A little clue to those who try and cut everything standing up, LAY IT DOWN. You can be much more accurate with your molding laying on a flat serface,specificaly large crowns and baseboards.So my advise to Bobby from Boulder is to learn how to use that exspensive saw you speak so pourly of or just work with 3" moldings for the rest of your days.

As the owner of a trim carpentry business with 5 employees, I have to admit this saw is the most versatile I have found. Each employee has one entrusted to him, and I have tried the other brands and even own the new 10" Hitachi dual-beveling saw. The point that needs to be made is that the description at this time from the manufacturer says that this saw bevels both directions- which it does not. It miters both directions, but only bevels to the left. The larger ten inch Hitachi bevels both ways, and it a nice saw to own also. The beauty of this saw, though, it that it lasts practically forever, is lightweight, and versatile. We cut up to 24" shelving by cutting one direction, then flipping it over and finishing the cut. We cut miles of crown flat with it using compound mitre and bevel cuts, and it's not a big deal to flip your piece around.(Most of the time, we use a crown that you can flip over and cut due a flat profile instead of handling the long length again) Buy this saw, you will enjoy it.

SOO CLOSE!
Hitachi has come soo close to perfection with this saw. It's small blade, high power motor, and well designed slide mechanism make this saw cut more consistently high quality cuts than any other saw on the market! But, this saw also has some serious weaknesses. 1) Only tilts in one direction. 2) Fence is too short( all cuts must be done flat.) 3. Fence is too soft. becomes bent after relatively short period of constant use. plastic fence pieces break and are tooo flexible. can be remedied by attaching hardwood to fence but this limits the clamp. 4) smaller capacity.

while I say this is the best on the market I have not tried the latest 10" sliders to enter the market.

PLEASE NOTE THAT EVEN WITH THESE DRAWBACKS IF YOU MUST HAVE A SAW TO DO FINISH WORK THIS IS IT. THIS SAW MAKES THE DeWalt SEEM LIKE A TOY!

Great, economical and woman-friendly
When this was delivered all I needed to provide was gasoline. It shipped with the right amount of oil, which took less than 30 seconds to pour in, and another 3 minutes to lock down the handle, fill it with gas and start it.

It started on the first pull and worked flawlessly in our 1/3 acre yard. The first time this mower used three tankfuls of gas, but this was because the grass and weeds in our lawn had grown nearly 18 inches high (we'd recently moved in). The second time I mowed the lawn I only used a tank of gas, which indicates how economical this model is to own and operate.

The self-propelling feature was good enough to allow me to handle the mower, even on hilly parts of the back yard.

The instruction book is easy to follow, the mower itself is well-packed and easy to remove from the shipping carton, and set-up was a breeze. Performance is outstanding. If I had it to do all over again, I'd still purchase this model, which is the best compliment I can bestow. ... Read more

One half the price of the Little Giant
As a contractor, I use a lot of ladders.

COSCO was the first to clone the Little Giant Ladder about five years ago. Apparently, Little Giant's patent was still in force for the hinges. I own the COSCO 17FT Worlds Greatest Ladder and used it for a couple of years, but I needed something longer.

In January 2002, I purchased the Type 1 22 FT Little Giant from Amazon.com. The only difference was the hinges and a few annoying braces in the climbing area of the two narrow extension pieces of the COSCO. The COSCO is made in Korea. The Little Giant is made in USA. Both functions flawlessly to this day.

I found the Little Giant cloned at Home Depot as the Gorrila Brand ladder at Home Depot. $99 for the 13 ft model and $199 for a 21 ft model. The ladder is essentially a China made copy of the Type 1A Little Giant.

My last purchase is the MT-13 Werner. It appears to be another clone of the Little Giant Type 1A, also made in China, probably by the same company that makes the Gorilla. I know this, because both brands include a bonus set of brackets for making the scaffolding with an almost identical blow molded polyethylene case. The brackets are identical and marked Patent Pending.

I would recommend the MT-13 and the MT-17 in the Werner Brand, but I still prefer the Little Giant in the 22 ft model. It is a lighter by five pounds than the 22ft Werner but cost about $130 more.

Since all of the original Little Giant patents have expired, the hinges on the Gorilla and Werner models are identical to the Little Giant.

Of all of the models, the MT-17 would be ideal for most home owners. It will go to the second floor window of a two story house. The 22ft model will go to the roof of a two story house, but only for one with a slab foundation, not one with a basement or a crawl space.

The 17 FT model is a good balance between weight size and function. The best deal would be the Werner MT-17. The quality of materials and assembly of all the models appear nearly equal.

One reviewer noted that these ladders were hard to extend. The best method is still the method of extending the ladder using the procedure described in the Little Giant Instructional Video. Since the methods are copyrighted by Little Giant, the clone manufacturers cannot use them with their own instructions sheets, videos or manuals. Accordingly, I cannot include the Little Giant Procedure in this review.

Heavy but Versatile
I first saw the Little Giant version of this ladder on a late night infomercial. It looked so interesting that I began researching it. I discovered the Werner MT-22 on Amazon.com. It was much less expensive than the LG, and Werner has a reputation for building solid ladders. The first day I got this ladder home, I used it to clean the gutters of our one-story home - it was great! I used it as the A-frame fully extended. It's rated for a 300 lb. load and I felt very secure on it. For the first time, I didn't sit on the roof to clean gutters.

It is fairly heavy (about 50 lbs.), but I didn't have much trouble moving it around. With the legs closed and retracted, it's only 5-1/2 feet tall x 24 inches wide x 9 inches deep. Setting it up took a little practice, but it's now a snap.

I emailed Werner about a ladder stabilizer and work platform. A rep replied very quickly and said that those accessories would be available in September 2004. The stabilizer will not be the quick click variety.

Great Ladder
I would actually give the Werner MT-22 ladder a rating of 4.5 stars, if it were possible to do so, due to the weight of the thing. Other than that, this is a great ladder with virtually no flaws. Does everything it's advertised to do and more. I am still finding new uses for this thing. I have given away all of my other ladders (used to have three of them), and now use this one for everything except the "step-stool" tasks. Bottom line is that I would buy it again, which is the highest endorsement I can give.

Versatile, but LIMITED extension capability!
Bought this for the flexibility and ease of transport. It fit without any trouble in the back of the vehicle and was very easy to handle with 1 person. Being able to use it as a stair ladder or with the included braces to use it as scaffolding support was very attractive. The weakness is in the extension ability. It is very difficult to fully extend the ladder to 19 feet. Basically your only option is to half-extend it on the ground, and once you have it standing, push it the rest of the way up. This becomes very difficult as this ladder does not have the typical pulley system found on regular extension ladders. It also cannot accept the Werner Quick-Click Stabilizer. I bought this saw back in March and have used it quite a bit. My purchase was an upgrade from my old B&D and the difference is night and day. I have not noticed any issue with heat buildup and I have used it to cut through 1.5" thick plywood and 2x4s without issue. Highly recommended.

outstanding quality
I had purchased the metabo top of the line jig saw. It was the most difficult jig saw I ever used. I ended up going back to my 30 year old sears. Finally, I returned it and purchased the 1590. I can not tell you the difference. In quality, in use, the blade changing system is so far superior and the guides are fantastic. The blade is clearly visible and is kept clean by the blower. I did not notice the unit getting hot as was mentioned in one review. If you are serious about your equipment, just buy this jig saw, none can compare.

What a DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!
I owned the 1587 model from Bosch, but sold it to my brother to "upgrade" to the newer model with the simpler blade ejection and the updated blade clamping system. What a mistake!!! As one other reviewer stated, this saw gets very, very hot to the touch. I ran the 1587 next to this model side by side for 1 minute just to see if that reviewer was correct. The 1587 warmed up then cooled itself down with the design of the vents. The 1590 warmed itself up and just kept on getting hotter. At about the 45 second mark, you could no longer hold onto the front of the jigsaw. I love Bosch tools, but this tool has a major design flaw in the way it cools itself. I am now buying the 1584 barrel grip from Bosch. I can't wait to get back to a quality design from a quality company. Bosch can do much better than this product.

very smooth jigsaw
I have had this saw for a few weeks now and am very happy with how smooth it cuts everything. I used it to trim off an overhang on a kitchen counter and it made a very smooth cut through both the laminate and particle board underneath. Also, I have used it to make some cut-outs in the plywood for a sub-floor and the cuts are very smooth. The blower works very well so that you can easily follow your cut line.

This saw is rather heavy for a jigsaw but the weight helps to absorb any vibration. The price and weight are both high but if you want a smooth and powerful jigsaw take a look at this one.

Fast and Accurate
I make a lot of custom furniture as well as perform trim carpentry that requires me to cut molding around brick and rock. I've found the 1590EVSK easy to handle with plenty of strength to consume maple and oak effortlessly. The oscillating blade is a wonderful feature and you can't beat the blade installation and removal.
While it could be considered pricy, if you plan on using a jig saw on a consistent basis this is absolutely one to to put at the top of your list to consider. ... Read more

A great product and Excellent service
Whatever happened to my first review of this product? I can not find it anywhere and I wanted to spread the message about Fuji very much!

I bought a Fuji Q4 about 3 weeks ago and after having waited for long because of a delay in manufacturing due to the release of the new XT Non Bleeder type gun that comes standard with all new Fuji Q3 and Q4 systems.

I opted for the Q4 because for a relatively small difference in price you simply get the most powerful turbine in the market. It is a 4 stage turbine made right here in America. Fuji manages to put this monster in a very steardy black metal case and the system is claimed to be 50% quieter than the competition. Comparing it to a Turbinare unit I was thinking to buy I totally agree with Fuji's claims.

The unit came in a steardy box but to my dismay the plastic fitting that connects the hose to the turbine was broken. In addition to this, the 6 foot Flex hose I had ordered to come with my unit did not show up either.

A simple call to Fuji and a couple of days later I received a box with the Flex hose, a new plastic fitting and a quick coupling compliments of the company. I was also informed that
I would be receiving a new metal fitting as soon as they are available.

I highly recommend any new buyer to get this Flex hose as it really makes spraying a pleasure w/o the burden of the big rubber hose that comes standard with the unit. By the way, my unit also came with the small plastic cups I bought as an additional option and a pack of spares like cup seals and additional strainers.

I used my Fuji to spray 26 restaurant chairs for a friend who is openign up a new restaurant and the unit performed much better than I had anticipated. That time I used the plastic cups only because I had to spray between chair legs and I needed the smaller size of the spray sytem. The finish was as impecable as I ever had using a spray system and with an ease of conntrol I never felt using my compressor powered NON HVLP sprayer. It is such a different experience to have your paint go where you itnend it and STAY there instrad of the mess that a high pressure sustem creates. After spraying the 26 chairs I pretyt much walked away from the job with no paint stuck on me or my clothing.

The next day I had to spray some booths for the same friend and I tried to use the metal cup that comes with the system. Unfortunately, I could not make the gun achieve an good seal and since it is pressurized the paint was oozing out from it. I went back to the plastic cups and finished the job w/o a problem.

Having contacted Fuji again I was told they will be sending me a newer make of a cup and hopefully this problem will also be solved. Please note that since the XT gun and cup assembly is new for Fuji and I guess some problems had to be anticipated. The point here is that the manufacurer is simply AMAZING in responding to comments and lightning fast in taking care of any problems you may have. You get to talk to Paul, the owner himself (not some clerk that could not give a darn about anything) and this guy even responds messages on weekends!

I give the Fuji Q4 a round 5 star for performance even with the few mishaps I had with it. It is super quiet, super powerful, super performing and it is backed up by what I feel is the best customer service I have ever encountered in my 15 years of buying wood working equipment from various big name manufacturers like Delta, Powermatic, Bosch etc. These guys could learn something about customer service from Fuji.

I give Fuji a 4 star for quality control but again, the outstanding service they offer prety much decides it for me: Fuji is an absolute winner! DO NOT buy another HVLP spray system until you try a Fuji first. Highly recommended.

Look no further.......
The Fuji Q4 Pro is QUALITY, top to bottom, A to Z. Unbelievably quiet, VIBRATION FREE, (becoming a rarity in electric motors because apparently no one cares about bearing clearances or endplay) and EASILY powerful enough to spray any finish you want. (the one exception being polyester, i.e. "grand piano" coatings which need a high pressure, (and high overspray) cup gun.)
Fuji industrial is a no-nonsense company. If you call for support, parts, etc., the president and CEO of the company answers the phone himself. No waiting on hold, elevator music and the like. He seeks absolute customer satisfaction, no middlemen and no confusion.
American manufacters should take note of the lack of corporate wigs, board of chairmen and such with their multi-million dollar salaries for doing basically nothing for their company. What suffers naturally is the end product resulting in yet ANOTHER inferior quality, poorly designed domestic product.

And, despite the name "Fuji", the company is based in Ontario and uses over 90% North American content.

At least here, you are paying for PRODUCT, not some 7.5 million a year PR figure while the engineers don't get paid enough to put out a continually improving product.

You will get more than your money's worth with the Fuji. The gun itself is worth more than many complete systems. And as stated, the Q4 is "THE MOST POWERFUL AND QUIETEST SYSTEM ON THE MARKET."

So, if, you want the most from your dollar, as do I, you won't be disappointed here.

Great sprayer, I am very pleased
I have had this unit about 10 months now and I am very happy with it. My goal, in general, was to get a sprayer with the following features/functionality:

-spray fine finishes such as lacquer and water borne finishes
-also spray thin stains as well as occasional latex and oil-based paints
-variable air pressure for more control
-spend less than $1,000

This unit has satisfied those goals very well. The variable air control is really a must, in my opinion, otherwise I cannot adequately control the atomization. This air control works very well on this unit. It does not vary the motor speed, but varies the flow through the hose with a convenient control located at the gun handle - you can vary the flow as you work and fine tune it without having to run back to the compressor unit to make adjustments. I just turn the unit on and then make all the adjustments at the gun.

This unit sprays everything have tried very well: thinned lacquer, straight stains and dyes, latex paint (with Flotrol), and slightly thinned oil base paint. The finishes are extremely smooth.

Once I have the air and fluid controls set for a given project, the amount of overspray is really remarkably small. Although it is possible to create a lot of overspray, that usually means the air control is set to high.

The unit is very easy to clean - usually I just run solvent through the gun after every coat. Then thoroughly clean the needle and nozzle after the project.

A bonus for me is the sound level of the unit - it is really very low - it is like a mid range "whoosh" . Definitely not a loud unit at all. I find that once I have everything adjusted and start spraying, I do not even pay attention to the sound of the unit at all. I understand that some other brands have very irritating noise levels. Not so here.

I also appreciate the manufacturer's after sale support. Very helpful. I also purchased (from Fuji direct) the 6 foot whip hose and the set of small plastic cups for small jobs. The whip hose is very light and I find it very helpful in maneuvering in my small spray area.

I have been happy with the needle/nozzle combination which came with the unit, although my guess for the majority of my lacquer work, the #3 nozzle would work fine also. ... Read more

Rolls Royce of Cabinet Saws
I purchased my 66 in August of 1997. It has been used heavily for the cabinet work in our new log home as well as several other furniture projects. I made the cabinets from hickory and the 66 sliced through this like soft butter. I compared the 66 to the Delta and the Jet. I preferred the left tilt, and the small access door on the front was a nice feature. The Powermatic just seemed to be an all around solid machine. I've not regretted the extra expense for one second. If you want a serious table saw, this baby has what it takes.

Mixed bag
I received the saw and all 7 boxes. Driver was very helpful in delivering directly to shop. From one of the previous reviews I read here, I had put together the mobile base (bought separately) first and was able to move the saw base from the pallet to the mobile base. This is definitely the way to go.

First the good. I had always heard that the Powermatic 66 was the "best". I was impressed by the fit and finish of the saws that I had seen. I still feel that the finish on the top is the best anywhere. The packaging provided good protection. The extension wings went on easily and were easy to align properly. I got the wood extension table and it arrived intact without problem.

Now the not so good. Installing the front rail for the accufence, the instruction manual has you ensure exactly 2 27/32" from table to front rail and that this dimension is critical. However, after attaching the rail to table, it was not possible to achieve this "critical" dimension. Contacting Powermatic by phone(don't try the URL address provided, it doesn't work), they informed me that as long as the offset is consistent from table to rail that acceptable performance can be achieved (i.e., 2 14/16 or 2 13/16 was OK as long as this was consistent along the length of the table. (So much for critical). Not having this info initially cost me a couple hours unnecessary setup time. I also had difficulty getting the guide bar to be a consistent length from the table to the bar. The Powermatic rep(different individual) I contacted assured me that this had never been a problem before. (so I must be making it up?). I started removing mounting bolts from the underneath of the guide bar and found that one of the holes was offset enough to prevent the guide bar from being paralell. Once removed, it was possible to properly align the guide bar.

Once the fence was set up, I attempted to adjust for paralell. I spent a lot of time and was never satisfied with results, but the dimensions from the infeed and outfeed side of blade to the fence were equal or the outfeed was a hair greater. I never got a smooth cut. I assumed that the blade I was using was at fault, and bought a Forrest blade (very nice). I tried again and got better results but still not what I expected. There was always a gap between the wood and the fence on the outfeed side or I would get binding if adjusted the outfeed side further in.

I decided to invest in a rather expensive precision gauge to measure for exact paralell. What I found is that the accufence side plate which is UHMW plastic is concave, going in approximately 8 mils at the center of the cut. I am still working on getting this right, I ought to be able to shim it.

In summary, when the saw is up and running, it is very smooth and powerful. Very heavy arbor, low vibration, excellent lift and tilt mechanisms. The surface finish is excellent, but the fit of the fence was disappointing to say the least. I suspect this will be an excellent tool when finally adjusted. I had an inexpensive craftsman before and required a lot of adjustment and aftermarket add ons to make it work smoothly. I didn't expect the same from Powermatic. I am convinced top quality tools are worth the expense, but I expect top quality. I can recommend the HTC mobile base and the Forrest blade that I bought for this tablesaw, but the verdict on the saw itself is questionable.

Worth spending $400-$600 more
Purchased saw from local dealer paid $50.00 more than online. Couldn't wait shipping time from onlinesale. Fit and finnish excellent, better than Jet, Delta, General and everyone else. You will spend $400 - $600 more over the competitions best, you will never be satisfied untill you own a Powermatic-Bottom line, DO NOT SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS. Stock fence with UWOM poly sides is good for zero clearance cuts, but for short stock use a Besiemere with laminite sides. I would recomend this saw to anyone who demands the best and appreciates quality workmanship.

Excellent Machine.... Better save up though.
There is not much to say about this saw that hasn't already been said 1 million times. It's the best out there, but you pay for it. I examined many shops, garages, and woodworking stores before finally investing in the Powermatic, but I would not change anything now that I have it. The fit and finish is perfect, the power is ample, and the cuts are amazing. Combine this machine with a Forrest woodworker II and you're ready for just about anything. It took me a while to get the machine all set-up and the tolerances dialed in, but careful setup leads to successful production. All items arived in good shape, and went together as planned. I used a dial gauge mounted on a miter-gauge insert for all my alignment which was priceless. I measured the arbor flange runout at less that 0.001" at the outer rim of the flange. The only complaint I have is the price.

Unfortunate experience
I had many problems with this saw because of defective parts. The fence rail was bent, the table top was not flat (out 5/32" from side to side). The material on the side of the fence was cupped. Powermatic service did replace all these parts but this isn't where the problems ended. After set up finally was complete,I powered the saw up and a great deal of vibration occurred. Come to find out when the machine was manufactured the set screw on the drive pulley for the blade was missing.So the pulley was drifting on the shaft. Easy fix but by this time I thinkin' lemon. I could write a 100 pages of adjustments and problems I have had with this thing but I will spare you all the details. Just to let you know a little background on myself is I'm a mechanical engineer and have a great deal of understanding when it comes to equipment. This is not what I had expected from Powermatic ... "Outstanding Tile Saw"
The MK-100 10" 1 1/2HP Tile Saw is an excellant saw for the money. I researched many different brands and sizes of Tile saws. I wanted one that could cut a variety of different types of tile and the ability to diaginaly cut twelve inches. I talked with an MK service rep and he said the MK 100, their newest saw, was basically the same saw as the 101. It does have a different motor and there is no cover over the slide assembly. The MK-100 will cut 12" floor tile in about three seconds. The saw sounds the same as the 101, basically the same machine, just two or three hundred dollars less expensive. The saw comes with a very good instruction booklet and everything needed to cut tile. The Diamond blade could be better, but you can easily replace it when it becomes dull.

Top of the line
I bought the 3HP, left tilt Unisaw with 50" Biesemeyer fence, and I'm delighted with it. I had some questions on adjustments, and their tech support personnel were great - prompt and well-informed. The Southern accent was just a nice bonus for this displaced southerner (I work for Yankees, but that doesn't mean I have to like it :).

In contrast with another reviewer, I can't get mine to act up at all. It handles everything I've thrown at it as though I'm asking it to cut 3 sheets of paper, ho-hum. And that includes some long-ish cuts in 2 1/2" thick oak. No thick maple yet, but that's on the docket soon.

There was a warning on the assembly instructions about attaching the extension table legs in a different place if you were using a mobile base. I ignored the instructions and had to remount the legs in the right place (doh!), so be sure you pay attention there.

I waited a while to get this Unisaw, and figure it's the one piece of shop gear I'll never need to replace. Maybe I'll update it in 20 years with the latest laser-guided fence doohickeys or whatever is new then, but the saw and motor will easily outlast me. And I'm not too old or decrepit yet!

Delta Saw
Saw was delivered without difficulty. Package was in good shape. Assembly was not as easy. Extension wings were not labeled left or right, but they were not too hard to level. The splitter assembly was easy but the plastic blade guard is a real pain to work with. It is in the way of everything you want to do on the table surface. The motor cover is very nice but the holding screw is all the way at the bottom so you have to lay on your stomach to see it and get it out.
The Biesemeyer Fence is very well made. However it came without 2 packages of hardware and mounting screws so I had to call and have them sent. That took another 10 days to mount the fence system.
Overall I am very pleased with the saw. I expected a little more QA on the packaging with all needed parts but sometimes it happens.

Excellent product, weak customer service
I purchased my Delta unisaw several months ago and it is everything that I had expected and more. Works like a charm, flat table, easy to assemble, and accessory items mate perfectly. I read a lot of reviews, spoke to a lot of people, and Delta was highly recommended. I was a bit concerned about the overheating and wiring issues some reviewers were having, but this saw runs perfectly. I think some of the reported wiring problems must be a result of not clearly understanding or following directions.

I had a few minor problems during setup (a few missing parts and a minor problem with the sub-base) and had reason to work with Delta customer service, both in Tennesee and the local service center in Ontario, CA. I was not very impressed, as many of the answers I received were wrong or poorly thought out. People on the phone usually were not well informed on the product and had to ask someone else before getting an answer back to me. I tried using email, and the responses were very late and of poor quality (contrast with Grizzly customer service........quick responses to email, couteous and helpful). Over the phone I would often get different answers depending on who I spoke with.

One Amazon reviewer recently mentioned the z-brackets that were missing from his Biesemeyer extension table. He was told that it was the result of a misprint in the manual. I also was missing the angle bracket and z-bracket. After weeks of going in circles with Delta cusomter service, they sent me three of each. So, they do exist and they actually can help for fine leveling adjustment of the extension table. I also did not get the hollow handle for the miter guage, as they shipped a solid metal handle. (It is not really important as I have gone to an Incra miter guage) but I asked them to send me the correct handle. Well, they shipped me three handles (the wrong handles, the same one I already had) but they also shipped me three caps (in a separate bag) that are made for the hollow handle that I had asked them to send. So, it all went in the trash.

If the saw lives up to expectations, I will never have to deal with Delta customer service again. Let's hope.

As I mentioned earlier, I also purchased accessory items (mobile base, outfeed table, t-square blade guard)...and all arrived in good shape, installed easily according to assembly directions, and work well.

Nightmare! I don't know what to do!
I ordered a Delta Saw ( 5 hp version) on March 13, 2004. I received 3 boxes out of 4 on March 29. The freight company told me that they left the other box ( Biesmeyer) in Kansas. I called the freight company today and they told me they could not locate the package. They told me to get in touch with Amazon. Amazon doesn't respond to my e-mails. In the meantime my orders are getting cancelled. What a nightmare!
I heard a lot of good things about this saw. I wish I could use it and write a nice review about it.

Everything I Was Hoping For
I held off for a long time in buying this saw. I looked at as many other alternatives as I could find and I researched everything I could get a hold of. I wanted to be sure I was getting the best for the money and that I was going to have the saw for a long time. The Jet was very appealing but when I called about 13 cabinet shops everyone agreed that the Delta was a better machine. Just to note though, they all thought the Jet was an excellent option if couldn't afford the Delta.

So it came down to value. When you consider that one of the free tools Delta is offering is the mobile base (Which works incredibly well) and it comes with a free, high quality, blade the price is very reasonable.

The assembly was so simple that I am very confused by other reviewers that had problems. I did need someone to hold the extension wings while I bolted them on. But other than that I did it myself with a very big smile on the whole time.

Great designed saw
The DeWalt saw is designed and manufactured by Sommervile Design in Canada. They make the Excaliber Scroll saw. The Dewalt Saw is very much like the excaliber in that it has very low vibration and having a very smooth operation. I had a dewalt but had to move up to the excaliber because of the work i produced, unless you use a scroll saw for 6 - 12 hours per day, buy this saw. The only problem I had was the motor could not take the beating i gave it, i cut 3/4 to 1 1/2 thickness wood all the time, althought the saw handled that thickness with ease, it could not keep my pace. If your a hobbiest cutting moderately its a GREAT saw. It has a quick release for the blade and you can change blades in seconds, the blade tension is right there in front, the top arm lifts for getting work on and off the table. Fairly quiet operation. Don't waste your money on the light, its not bright at all and does not help. Assembly is a snap upon getting the saw, just put the table on and your ready to go. I have used everything out there, besides the Excaliber, the dewalt is the next best thing. Whats nice about the dewalt, it has the same design as the excaliber in that like other saws that have the full top and lower arms that ofcourse move up and down, the dewalt like the excaliber has only tips of the arms move, the tips that move are only about 4" long, less moving thus less vibration. Inside the top and bottom arms there is a flat rod that move back and forth that moves the tips up and down. When you get your new dewalt and you see how smooth, quiet, and just about no vibration, imagine a saw twice to 3 times better that the dewalt and you have the Excaliber. I think one of the reasons why the Excaliber can take what i dish out is that it is belt driven, this ofcouse increases the power and the strain on the motor, if the dewalt goes belt driven I'll get another one.

A superior saw for the money.
I took my time before making this purchase. I not only read all the reviews but had an opportunity to check out the saw at a wood show. This saw replaces a Delta scroll saw that I bought 10 years ago. I wanted a saw that was easy to use, with very little vibration. This machine fit the bill. There's hardly any vibration at all. It's one of the quietest tools in my shop. Blade changes and tensioning couldn't be any easier. The electronic speed control is a plus. The saw arrived from Amazon.com in excellent condition. The only assembly was attaching the table. In less than 10 minutes I was scrolling Christmas ornaments. The quality out of the box was excellent. I've put about a hundred hours on the saw so far and I have to say that it is addicting. It was a surprise to find that this tool was not made in China or Taiwan, it's made in Canada. Form and Fit are perfect. I've tried very hard to find something negative to say about this saw and have failed. It's a well made tool, a pleasure to use and I'm looking forward to many years of use.

Wow, what an upgrade!
I originally had a R***i from[local store], purchased because I'd had good luck with all the other R***i tools I have. This was my first scroll saw, learning curve and all that. The light quit, then the upper blade holder broke from the mighty twisting of my feeble arthritic grip, I suppose. Took it back. Now being familiar with scroll saw problems, particularly pierceing cuts / blade handeling, vibration, etc, did more research, decided on the DeWalt design. Great price and shipping time here at Amazon. The DeWalt saw? What a sweet machine this is! Smooth as silk, no vibration compared to other designs until the speed is near the max,quieter than the wife's sewing machine, the table / blade zeroed right out of the box. I'll be happily sawing for years to come on this baby. I will agree with the others though, on the hold down foot, it's the one weak point of the design. Most fretwork guys abandon them anyhow. (Not a reccomended practice.) Some have the scars to prove it!

Great saw with one exception
I recently upgraded from a craftsman to the Dewalt. I have been happy with the almost vibration free operation, easy blade changes, and large 20" bed. The only problem I have had is the hold down foot. Dewalt uses a large hold down foot that is constructed of a bent rod that attaches to one side of the upper saw arm. The attachment of the foot is not very solid. The foot interfears with the view of your work piece and tends to fall down into the cutouts when doing fretwork. This causes your work piece to bind up and then suddenly jump free as you apply more preasure to move the piece. It can be frustrating when working on an intricate piece. Also, the size of the foot makes cutting small pieces almost impossible without removing it all togehter. My old Craftsman had a small V shaped hold down foot that worked very well. If Dewalt would fix this one problem, they would have a great saw.

Four Years' Tough
I have two of these drills. Have used one or the other of them daily for three years this month. About time for a review. They are tough. I do not understand the comments about weak chucks or, in other places, about battery problems. My drills, their batteries and chargers have performed, as I say, on a daily basis for three years under all kinds of conditions and some very hard use without so much as a glitch. They have tremendous torque and staying power under continuous use. If you are going to shoot large screws or drive a big bit rapidly into very hard or though wood, brace the drill-driver's grip, battery end against your knee or thigh before you squeeze the trigger. You will have fewer wrist problems if you do--it has that kind of torque. Regarding one complaint, I would not use this driver with tiny drill bits; it just is not intended for that. It defies logic to do so. What it will do is take the heaviest work and drive large bits and sink big screws all day and just keep on going. An example: In the intense, 100 degree plus heat of one summer, two carpenter friends and I laid a 1700 sq foot subfloor of 2X6 T&G over 16" OC joists with two 3-1/2 inch screws to the joist, working as fast as we could all day for what seems now like several days. The wood was very tough, dense struc select Doug fir. When my two friends' drivers, one a Makita and one a Hitachi, got hot as pistols or their batteries needed recharging, whichever of the DeWalts I happened to be using could keep right on going. I would lend the other DeWalt to either guy while his driver recovered. I smoked those batteries, but by following the right charging procedures never had a failure. They both still take deep cycle charges and hold them well, after three years of hard use. One took a fourteen foot fall off a roof while mounted to another DeWalt tool, the battery taking the full impact on tamped crushed rock, and it still works as well as the others. Just read the instructions and you will not have trouble with the batteries. Quick charge when you have to, but balance that with long charges from a low state over the weekends. Never use the batteries while they are still warm or hot out of the charger, do not run them out completely--just nearly so, and do not repeatedly shallow charge them. Nicads will not last long with that kind of treatment. They take a "set" and will not charge deeply afterward. As for weak chucks, well, one incident does not make them all that way. When my drywall zipgun stripped its chuck, I picked up one of my DeWalt 18V drill-drivers and kept on going--for over 300 sheets of 1/2 and 5/8 inch drywall. The clutch and speed mechanisms work well enough that I had good control and could hang drywall almost as fast as with the zipgun. One caution regarding the clutches on these brutes: they require breaking in; don't be upset if they are hard to use at first. You can see from this what DeWalt 18V drill-drivers have done and can do, and still I have not had the slightest problem, though they look pretty beat up now. I do not think a single work day has passed in which I have not used one of the two. Now I have a whole lot of DeWalt HD 18V tools, because these two drill-drivers performed so well I was not afraid to buy into a lot of tools in the same line. I have had no trouble with any of them. You never lose them, either; that DeWalt yellow shouts at you from across the room, across the lot or from under a pile of tools and offcuts. When these go, I will buy more.

Great drill/driver
I have had this drill for about six months and am very happy with it. I am a homeowner so I can't speak as to how this drill would function during all day use. For projects around my house it has plenty of power although, like every other cordless tool I have used, it needs a little more time drilling/driving through hard wood. If I want to drill through something thick and tough, I used a beefier corded drill. So far, I have not noticed any of the battery life problems discussed by other reviewers.

I picked up a set of the Dewalt hex shank bits and have not noticed any slippage. The only time I have had a complaint with the drill was while using a hole saw to install locksets in two doors. Of the four holes, the bit slipped out of the chuck two times. Once I reinserted the hole saw it went right on through the door. I don't know if I didn't get the chuck tight enough or if the chuck just prefers the hex shank bits.

All in all a great drill. I can't imagine ever installing curtain rods, assembling bookcases, etc. with a corded drill and/or screwdriver again!

Yet another over-priced, under-achiever from big yellow
This drill is, in short, a dud. I bought it somewhat hesitantly on the recommendation of a friend. I had been looking at this and the Milwaukee and Bosch equivalents but went ahead and took the plunge. What a mistake. It seems to have sufficient torque but the chuck started to wobble almost immediately after only a few weeks of light use. It makes a grinding noise in the low speed setting that I can't seem to find and one of the batteries ... died after only 2-3 months use. Since then the charger .... has also given up making it cheaper to buy a whole new kit (probably what dewalt has in mind anyway). I have since bought the Milwaukee 0624-20 (kit 0624-24)and have been abusing that workhorse for over a year now with phenomenal results while this piece of crap collects dust on the shelf. Not only are the batteries ..... and charger .... cheaper to replace by some $40 but they also last a _lot_ longer. I wish now I had gone with my gut instinct in the first place. Save yourself a lot of grief and money and go for the Milwaukee. You will not be sorry.

quaility control
i have owned three of these drills over the last seven years,i was very impressed the first time i used the 18 volt drill about five years ago and immeadiatly bought one. since that time i have noticed a serious decline in craftsmanship and customer service on DeWalt's part. the chucks spin on expensive drill bits damaging the bit,the battery packs seem to have unreliable longievity issues. the final straw was a blown charger after approx. 40 hrs. plug in time,right in the middle of a elaborate garage remodel. i am going to start phaseing out my DeWalt cordless tools in my personal tool chest as well as the ones owned by the Parks and Recreation Dept. I am in charge of.

Good drill for the money
I purchased this drill as part of a drill/saw combo at Home Depot for $199 so go there for a better deal. I bought this drill to compliment the 18V Dewalt pistol handle drill I already have.

I know what your thinking, why do I need two drills? Have you every tried to drill/drive in between stud cavities with a pistol grip?? Pain in the bottom to do, so when I have that type of work to do I just grab this one, now onto my review.

Plenty of power for anything you may want to do, drives screws like a champ, drills through 4x4 PT with 1 1/2" spade bit with no problems. A great drill at a great price. Since I own their more expensive model I will point out the differences. No hammer action, only 2 speed(don't need the third speed), 2 piece chuck versus the 1 piece, and the handle doesn't have those nice rubber inserts.

Doesn't handle small bits that well due to the chuck design, and the trigger sticks a little when trying to slowly advance it.
One piece of advice, before you even use the drill for the first time grab some athletic tape(Walmart sells black athletic tape so it doesn't look retarded) and wrap it a couple of time around the handle. That improves the grip 100%, trust me.

A Powerful, Precision Tool.
After having had several contractor type table saws, that were all generally underpowered and had imprecise fences, I recently stepped up to the Powermatic Model 66, 5hp, single phase, table saw. At last I have a powerful, precision tool that is the keystone of my woodworking shop.

The quality of this machine is first rate. It was well packaged from the factory and set up easily. (Insist on a lift gate delivery).

The front fence rail was a bit off 90 degrees, but was quickly and courteously replaced by Powermatic customer service inside of a week. The new rail is perfect and holds the fence tube parallel to the table top thus facilitating a true fence alignment.

For me, this machine has no negatives. There were no shortcuts taken in either it's design or manufacture. Virtually everything on this machine is adjustable. Fine tuning the machine, once it is in place and set up, is minimal and straight forward.

The Biesemeyer type fence is beyond reproach. The cast table top and wings are flat and true. The mobil base allows you to move the machine easily, with one hand, anywhere in your work space. With the 5hp motor, nothing inhibits this machine.

If your needs include a powerful, precise, high quality table saw, choose the Powermatic Model 66. It's a real beauty.

Powermatic 66 the Rolls Royce of Table Saws
I purchased the 5 HP 1 Phase Model 66. Installation of the cast iron wings and the extension table was straightforward. The cast iron top was polished to a mirror finish and was dead flat. The saw blade was aligned with the miter slots to within 0.002 in. right out of the crate. The Accu-Fence, a Biesemeyer clone was easy to adjust and has been rock solid and very accurate so far. One of the best attributes of this saw is the lack of vibration due to the massive cast iron trunion. The 5 HP motor can easily digest thick hardwoods (I recently sawed a large amount of 12/4 curly cherry without a hiccup). The motor never bogs down. The stock blade guard is hopeless so I purchased an aftermarket overarm guard. I also recommend the Biesemeyer removeable splitter, but make sure that if you order this saw that you have Amazon order the new Biesemeyer splitter that has been redesigned for the Model 66's manufactured after August 2000. This saw is quiet, powerful, and very accurate. Without question this will be the last cabinet saw you will ever buy if you take care of it. The Powermatic 66 is truly the Rolls Royce of table saws.

Three years and running great!
OK, so I used that same title for another review! Its' true. This ACTUALLY showed up on time, ACTUALLY was packaged nicely, and has ACTAULLY lived up to its hype. The 5hp is overkill, but I like that. Smooth, stable, quiet, good dust control, GREAT fence. The fence was adjusted when we set the saw up three years ago and it needed its first tweak about six months ago. That's it. I run ply, MDF, and various hardwoods without even a change of pitch from the motor. I use an 8" Frued Dado with no problems at all. I use this saw commercially and I highly reccommend it!

If you have Asian Tiger Mosquitos
Don't use the Octenol cartridge for Asian Tiger Mosquitos because it repels rather than attracts them. Read and follow the placement directions.

After getting 6-15 bites by those nasty critters everytime I went into the garden and being held prisoner indoors for a few months, I decided to spend the bucks on the Defender. My husband was skeptical, but I was desperate.
Initially, it wasn't properly placed and I thought that I had made an expensive mistake. After we read the placement directions, viewed the CD and moved it to the recommended area of our yard, the Tiger mosquitos flocked to the Defender to dehydrate and die. We have won the battle with the Asian Tigers and now are using the Octenol cartridges to catch the everyday garden variety mosquitos.

We started using the Mosquito Magnet on July 1 and are very happy with the results. We still have some mosquitos and I get bitten every now and then, but I don't have to coat myself with OFF and I can enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the garden.

Works great for me!
I read these reviews before I bought a Mosquito Magnet Defender, and, though there seemed to be some disagreement as to whether this machine actually works, I found that Consumer Reports liked it, so I decided to shell out the money to buy one.
I just set up the machine in my backyard on July 3 after reviewing the placement assistant on the included instruction c/d. It was very easy to set up (once I had the propane tank, it took about half an hour including 20 minutes warm-up time). Mosquitoes started swarming around the machine after it had been running for an hour. In three days I've emptied the trap twice. I counted over 100 mosquitoes each time (a tip: open the trap in a plastic bag to prevent the live mosquitoes from flying out). I'm sure I that's a fraction of the probably three trillion mosquitoes living on my half-acre lot, but - hey - it's a dent.
I could actually go out on the deck today (in the rain) and not get bitten. I'm looking forward to see how it works over the next month (how long the manufacturer claims it takes to break the mosquito breeding cycle).
At this point, I'm very happy with my Mosquito Magnet Defender.

I Love This Thing!
The Mosquito Magnet is destined to be one of those indispensible items to have in-and-around anyone's home. This thing is terrific. Before I got my computer, DVD, and cell phone, I couldn't imagine life with them, now I cannot imagine life without them. So it is with the Mosquito Magnet.

I live in Maine, Mosquito and Black Fly Central. The bugs here are the size of small housecats, and are happy to hold you hostage until you pay a handsome ransom... of your blood. I researched bug-catching devices and bug killers galore, in Consumer Reports, all over the internet, everywhere. The Mosquito Magnet was hands-down the most-recommended item around. Amazon clearly offered the best deal. Free Shipping, $50 off my next purchase, and a free box of octenol cartridges. OK, I was sold.

The assembly was a breeze. Turned on the propane tank, plugged the thing in, and wahoo! I have had it for just three weeks, and upon emptying the bug box for the first time, it was absolutely packed with a solid brick of dead mosquitoes and blackflies! Ewww! Thousands and thousands of them! Unbelievable! Damnedest thing I ever saw! And everyone of those little buggers I "offed" was one less to bite me in the @ss. And more importantly, one less to survive thereafter, laying eggs and spawning the next generation of little fiends.

I have already noticed a dramatic decrease in ANYTHING buzzing about me while noodling around the garden and grill. This little darlin' works slick as snot on a doorknob! And my home is on a lake in the woods of Maine, with lots of fresh water and foliage everywhere for the little buggers to live in. Not anymore, thanks to the Mosquito Magnet. I was a skeptic at first (my wife, too, thought the money would've been better spent paying a high school kid 10 cents apiece to swat them one at a time!), but now having lived with it, I'm so thrilled that I'm telling EVERYONE about it!

A caution: When they say "Change the tank every 21 days", they mean it. I tried to weasel a few extra days out of the Rhino tank, and at the end of day 22, the propane tank was spent. Make sure you have a spare handy, so you can make a smooth transition. I've read about other folks' problems with gas flow and starting problems. No such problems here. It has worked perfectly in every regard.

The other deal is, I see no reason why you'd need the bigger, and much more expensive models. My property is about 5 acres of woods, but the little Defender is true to its name! Does a terrific job, and even the specs on the larger models fail to provide convincing data on why or how they should be superior.

You, too, will love this thing. It's crazy to spend umpteen thousands on a home, and then be held hostage by bugs such that you cannot enjoy it. The Defender is the best $300 you'll ever spend for your yard.

So far, great!
I live next to conservation land, and my Mosquito Magnet has caught 1/2 of it's basket full of mosquitos in less that one 21 day cycle. Mosquitos hover around it all the time.

The only downside is that it was hard to get running the first time. It may require level ground (my first try was at a slight slant), and I had problems with getting it to feed from my propane tank.

Don't bother in Maryland
Used one of these for 6 weeks on the Eastern Shore of MD and didn't catch 6 mosquitos in that time. They don't tell you until you open the box that you shouldn't use the octenol if you have Asian Tiger mosquitos which is what we mainly have.

Out the price of 2 tanks of propane and a third spare tank I had purchased, but I returned the "magnet" to Hom. Depo. for a refund.

They shouldn't sell these things in states that they don't work in. ... Read more

Fantastic and easy
I bought this for my father who is approaching 70 years old. It is very light and very easy to use. We have burmada on our lawn. The first time we used it, there was a lot of growth so it took three batteries to finish his lot. I do have to point out that he had very bad technique. After I showed him a better way to do it, it worked more efficiently and now if he or I use it once a week, I may be able to get by with one battery. Because it inverts, I can do 40 feet in about 30 seconds, if you edge frequently and don't have massive growth. Just don't push it too close to anything you are try to get rid of, it slows it down and it doesn't work properly and the line won't come out. It has a 12inch area so remember to utilize that. I've also have edge and trimmed the yard 9 times this summer already and I still haven't used the spool of line yet. With our gas one the work would take about 45 minutes and I would have sore back from the extra weight. Now I complete my work in less than 15 minutes. This has been a pleasure to use.

Absolute Junk.

I just returned mine after only one use. The box says it will cut 1/2 with one charged battery. WHO's 1/2-acre were they cutting?!? Not my lawn, which is less than a 1/2-acre. I had to do half the job one day, recharge both batteries, and finish the job the next day. The spool was out when I'd finished. The box says "Gets The Job Done." It most certainly did not.
I called B&D Customer Service, and they agreed, the battery life is 15 minutes per battery, fully charged (maybe 20 at the most). Is that enough time for YOU to get "the job done"? Not me. I was really excited but it turned out to be a complete bust.

Very decent for basic use
I think this is perfect for someone who really:
1) dislikes the noise and smell of the gas trimmers
2) wants something fairly light
3) does not want a cord to always worry about
4) already has firestorm or B&D 18 volt products (batteries are interchangeable)

I have used all 3 types of trimmers, gas, 120 wired, and this cordless one and I have to say the convenience is great. Instant on with a press of the switch is great. The plastic is a bit cheap feeling but it seems to do the work. I think it could've been much better constructed, but the battery life is pretty impressive and the speed/torque of the trimmer is also pretty impressive on a well grown/groomed lawn. It did have a bit of trouble instantly tackling a thick busy section of grass but after going over it 2-3 passes...it took care of it. This same spot has given me trouble even with the corded 120 volt version from Toro so this was expected. The gas one I had chewed through it easily but that's gas...

I think for light to moderate work, it's fine. If you have thorny and thick undergrowth or even small plants with a fibrous stem, it'll take more work to get down than a gas.

Oh..if you even TRY to 'bump and feed' this unit, you will find the spool falls off VERY easily with a solid thump to the bottom (THAT was a pain in the as* as it flew off and unwound a ton of filament that I had to rewind by hand and figure out how to put it back on!

If you have 18 volt black and decker goods like I do, then you'll REALLY like having the two extra batteries and one extra charger. I have 4 batteries and 2 chargers amongst all the goodies now so I know i'll always have more than enough juice for anything around the house.

I would vote 5 stars, but the plastic has a cheapy feel.

B & D cordless string trimmer
My parents are getting up there and we sibs continually look for the simpliest and easiest yard tools for them to use, rather than hire others to do the things that they still want to do on their own. This trimmer fits the bill; it's easy to use, light-weight, no gas/oil, no electric cords, no bumping.

Depends on your expectations
It took me a long time to decide based on reviews of other models whether or not I should buy it. The reliability of them seems to have a shaky history and people report various success rates. My machine started right up and has been running constantly without trouble for about 10 days. I have turned it off to move it 4 times and it restarted without issue. As for its effectiveness it depends what your goal is.

I am not expecting to acheieve complete abatement as we live 100 yards away from a swamp but I was hoping to reduce the swarming that made going outside at dusk a scary proposition.
It has caught several hundred mosquitos in the first ten days and this was in cool weather when mosquitos are less active. The first day we had 90 deegree weather after a rain we caught close to 200 that day. I still need bug spray at night, but when I envision 1000 mosquitos chasing after me followed by the birth of their babies chasing after me, I am happy with the catch. For those who have low catches I'd try moving the unit to a different location every night and monitoring the catch.

I have also become fascinated with watching this machine catch its prey. It is very discriminate in what it catches... We only have one dumb moth and two nosy flies amongst the 1000 mosquitos. It can be frustrating to watch as the number of mosquitos hovering around the machine is greater than it will ultimately catch. Many seem content to play around the exhaust fans and never make an attempt to head up the plume. Others 30 feet away seem oblivious to the machine and never wander over. It makes me very skepticle of the 1 acre claim. A little dirty trick I played was to shine an incadescent light right next to the plume. Then I sat behind my screen door and watched as mosquitos attracted to the light wound up getting sucked up the plume.

If you want this machine to alleviate a problem I think it is effective (though costly) If you want it to eliminate a problem I think you will be disapointed.

Still a killing machine: 7 week update
Original review below: So far 2 propane tanks, 3 weeks each. The machine is virtually silent. I skipped using the CO2 "quick clear" cartridge as recommended after the first tank and the machine shut down 2 weeks into the second tank. Quick clear solved the problem. Our large yard has embedded woods, shrubs, wet areas and this year has been very wet. Bugs are out in force and the machine continues to catch loads of mosquitos and no-see-ums but less than a few weeks ago. I change the net when the fan is covered... about every other day. I wash out the old net after the contents stop moving. I treat it like a vacuum cleaner bag with the cleaner = more suction theory. Compared to our neighbors, our pool area is mosquito free. Placement is critical and must consider shade and the downwind CO2 dispersion. Would I buy another Liberty Plus? Probably not. Am I sorry I bought it? No. The technology works but I don't understand how the Liberty series is rated for 1 acre. I assume it generates a larger CO2 plume. In hindsight, for the money I think I'd rather have two $300 Defenders and set up a perimeter. Of course, that presumes the Defender kills like the Liberty. I'm going to move the machine and see if I can thin the biting population in a different part of the yard.

(original review) We've had the MM for 4.5 weeks and so far it's worked as advertised. It was a big bite in the wallet but it's allowed us and the kids the use of our backyard pool and deck through twilight for the first time in 6 years. It's under an apple tree for shade and it sucks in an incredible amount of mosquitos and no-see-ums from the nearby bushes and damp areas.
First propane lasted 3 weeks, as expected. The MM shut down once by itself but started right back up. I empty the net every 2 days. I recommend swapping the full net for an empty one because dumping out the squirming mass into a trash bag is a horror show. You can tie off the full net and let the active ones die. After all these years it's great to be able to enjoy the yard and it's sweet revenge on the biters.

Works Great once you get it started
My mosquito Magnet is sucking down a bagful of sceeters every day. (I'm guessing that's about 1000 or more mosquitos per day). It has returned our back yard to us. Well worth the price and the struggle to get it running.

And it was a struggle to get it running; most of which had to do with the propane supply. They aren't kidding when they tell you to open the valve on the propane tank very slowly. I now do about 1/8th of a turn in 30 seconds. Once I did that, my starting problems came to an end. In my case, I also learned to open the valve only partially....Only to the point where I could begin to hear the gas flowing and no further. The Mosquito Magnet has a very sensitive regulator that will slam shut if too much gas presure is applied to it. This makes the machine think its connected to an empty tank. (That's my theory... for what's it's worth...I'm not an expert on propane and propane accessories)

If you are not the type of person who is willing to patiently twiddle with something until it works, you may not want this. I wouldn't call it a typical plug and play consumer appliance. Hopefully, they will develop it further so that it will be easier to start in the future.

If a little twiddling doesn't scare you and you are ready to buy, but are torn between the two models "Liberty" and the "Liberty Plus" , get the the Liberty Plus. I had a Liberty last summer and it got fried sometime during our numerous power outages (there were about five caused by storms). It seems the mosquito magnet needs to have its internal fan running for about 1/2 hour after it shuts down. If it doesn't, it will burn up on the inside. Since the Liberty is connected to household current, the fan goes off whenever power is interupted. This does not allow the machine to cool off and thus it becomes damaged. The Liberty Plus has a battery operated fan and is therefore not subject to this kind of failure. In addition, you need to plug it in only once at the beginning of the season to charge it up. When its operating, I'm assuming that the fan is somehow run by propane. The battery is just for start ups and cool downs.

I am sort of peeved that I didn't realize that my first machine got fried until after the waranty was out (Isn't that the way it usually works?), But when machine worked, it worked so well, that I was willing to buy another. I guess you could say I'm a sucker----a sucker for a mosquito free back yard. That's what Mosquito Magnet has done in my case.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
I've had the Freedom 2000 for several years now. I have had multiple problems with it and I figure it has caught about one mosquito for each tank of propane I have bought. I have seen a total of about 7 unlucky mosquitoes captured in a year.

I didn't even bring it out last year because I figured I didn't want to spend any more money on propane. It turns out that my wife has a friend of a friend that works for American Biophysics and she said they were awesome, so I figured I would try it again.

After trying it again, I still think it is a complete waste of the $900 I spent on it.

Complaints:
1) It takes 3 or 4 tries over several hours to get it running.
2) It mysteriously shuts down.
3) It doesn't consistently run the fan fast enough to suck even a tiny piece of tissue paper up the horn.
4) I was paying for an attractant for a whole year that actually repelled Tiger mosquitoes.
5) American Biophysics sticks to their one year warranty, so if you buy one, get them to buy it back before the year is up. They are unyielding after 12 months!!!!

Funny enough after talking to several of their tech support people over the last few days, they realized that my MM is a piece of junk and offered to let me part with some more money to get a replacement--Uh, I may look funny, but I didn't just fall off the turnip truck!!!

I'd recommend buying a hose-end bottle of insecticide and spraying your yard. This ended up working much better than the MM.

Some things are just built and designed better!
I purchased this nailer from Amazon to lay 3/4" hardwood flooring in several rooms in my house. I have since fired about 5000 staples through it without any problems whatsoever. This stapler is very well designed ergonomically and mechanically. The mallet is big and somewhat massive in weight but there is a purpose in that. It takes very little effort and just a slight tap to drive a staple because it is pneumatic. So if a board lays nice and straight, then a slight tap will suffice, but if you have a somewhat uncooperative piece of flooring, then you will appreciate the heft of the mallet because it will cause the most finicky of boards to come together and lay tightly. The handle is long and fits well in your hand. Consequently your not bent over as much. My first floor laid was oak and I've started my second which is brazillian cherry. This wood is extremely heavy and dense. This stapler does not care how hard the wood is, it just works and flawlessly at that. After all isn't that what you want from a tool, flawless performance!

A Do-it-yourself-er's Initial Thoughts
I purchased the MIIIFS stapler to lay approximately 1,700 sq. ft. of 3/4 inch red oak flooring in my new home. After installing well over 1,400 sq. ft. here are some of my observations:

1) The tool makes it very easy for a novice to put down a nice, tight hardwood floor. If the boards are laying tight an easy swing of the mallet is all it takes to fully seat a staple (more on this later). If the board is warped the MIIIFS can stand up to a solid mallet smack without any trouble. The mallet's plastic face, by the way, does not show any signs of cracking so far.

2) The stapler efficiently uses the its air so you do not need a big compressor. I have been using a 1.5 hp unit with a 6 gallon tank. Output is set at 85 psi. I doubt such a small compressor could supply two nailers simultaneously, but it handles one quite nicely.

3) The stapler did develop a small air leak near the top shortly after I began using it. The amount of leaking is small (based on psi drop at the compressor) but does make a distracting noise. This leak does not affect the function or reliability.

4) At your starting wall you need to face nail the flooring until you get about 6 inches from the wall. After that you'll have enough room to get the stapler into position.

5) As you approach the far wall the stapler can be used up to the last 13 or 14 inches.

6) As mentioned earlier the tool only requires an easy mallet smack. However, if you don't swing firmly enough the staple will not seat fully. This is usually caused by crowding against the far wall and not having enough room to swing the mallet.

7) The firing knob is too stiff to actuate by hand reliably - the mallet is required. It would have been nice if there was a way to trigger the stapler by hand then you could use it much closer to the far wall.

8) I have not had any problems with jamming. The unit I've been using has reliably shot every staple right down to the very last one in the magazine.

9) I have heard some rumors of staple-style flooring nailers damaging the floor's tongue. After closely examining several hundred staples in oak I'd say that about 2 or 3 percent show any signs of tongue damage. Some of this infrequent damage is due to stapling through a knot or due to handling. Some is due to the MIIIFS. I'm not sure how this compares to nail-style nailers. Anytime you send a fastener through kiln dried hardwood you're bound to have some occassional splitting.

Would I buy the MIIIFS again? You bet I would. Despite its few minor shortcomings this tool has saved me a LOT of work and the price is lower than other pnuematic nailers that I've looked at.

Bostitch flooring stapler
The cadillac of flooring staplers! Anyone can put down hardwood flooring like a pro with this one. Would have liked to had a case included, instead of the cardboard box it came in. I guess that doesn't affect the performace, although protecting the stapler could prevent problems down the road.

Need it, Get it!
I did 750 sqft of oak. not one problem, great tool, did not have the misfire problem on last stables. no break downs, perfect every time. Loaned out to friend, expect the same results. will be selling it used shortly. (I don't need it anymore), and will recoup a bit of my costs. Bob

Bostitch M111FS 3\4" flooring nailer
I've been installing hardwood floors for 22 years or so and I'am in need of another nailer. These are a little heavy but can really fly on the big open rooms. The problem is their to expensive. The reconditioned ones are perfect. I started my company 20 some years ago and used power nailers wich are fine and recently went to air powered nailers about 10 years ago. Garage Shop SPACE SAVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just received this 40-031 and was amazed at how easy it was to install. It was a little heavy but I put the center bolt in first and just swung it level and put the other 2 bolts in. I have a Delta Grand Series Contractors Saw and it matches up to the saw perfectly. Of course I was covered in oil after installation. All parts were there and a few extra set screws and bolts came with it. It may have taken me 30 or so minutes to install by myself. Now I can get rid of my cabinet style router table and open up some more space. The only small gripe about Bench Dog is that I called them to ask a question at around 1:00 pm and had to leave a message for the tech guy to call me back and I didn't get a returned call until the next day at 4:30pm. But he answered my questions and was very nice. DON'T HESITATE TO BUY THIS ROUTER TABLE!!

Amazon is the only place that I found that had it listed for under $300. Plus the free shipping is great. It only took 7 days to receive it. Now I'm looking for a router to dedicate to the table. I know I'll buy it from Amazon I just can't make up my mind.

Just received my Bench Dog 40-031. There have been questions about mounting on left tilt table saws, so I was concerned because I have a Powermatic Artisans saw - years old but still works. The instructions say there IS an issue with left tilt cabinet saws - interference with moter and that must be the case because I had NO problems at all with my contractor style saw. In fact the whole install took less than 45 minutes including "play" time. I love this table so far,compact convenient, tough. Could be less bucks though.

Question about compatibility (Updated)
Update(5/19/04): The ProMax arrived yesterday and I installed it by myself by the end of the night. There are no interference issues with my Dewalt 746 tablesaw and Dewalt fixed router base that I plan to leave permanently attached to the ProMax router plate.

The cast iron extension is a significant improvement over the stock stamped steel wings that came with my Dewalt saw (bigger, flatter, smoother).

I haven't made any sawdust yet with this setup but so far it has been a tremendous value when you think about how much you actually get (fence, router plate, cast iron extension wing).

Tim Malone wrote a review that said the ProMax was the perfect fit for his Dewalt 746 saw. I just talked with someone from BenchDog and they had some concerns that the ProMax would have interference problems because my DeWalt is a left tilting saw. Tim (or anyone for that matter) can you tell me if your Dewalt was a left or right tilt saw. I was not aware of Dewalt making the 746 in a right tilt version. If there is anyone out there that has installed the ProMax on a left tilter, please let me know.

Initial Impressions, Installation
Here are my initial impressions on the Cast Iron Table through installation. I will update this post after I use it some.

The wing is boxed well and though there was a little damage to the box, the contents were in good shape. The first thing I noticed when beginning assembly is the screws and bolts were packed in some random order. I recommend dumping them all into a ziplock bag before starting. This will save you some time having not to disassemble or look for other bags. The wing is well coated with oil. I used simple green to remove the residue. After it was clean, I assembled it to the saw. Fit up was good and this wing is flat (more flat than my saw). The fence is quality and went together with no problems and the insert leveled with no issues.

Now for the reason I gave this product a 4 star rating. The wing is supplied with hooks to hold the fence when not in use. These hooks share the same hole as the attachment screws for the miter gage. The problem is that the holes were not tapped all the way through, they stopped about 1/8" shy. I have three options, to tap the holes myself, return the wing (now that it is fully assembled), or not use the hooks at all. The last option is not an option as far as I am concerned. I will speak with Bench Dog customer service tomorrow to see what they can do. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, they shorted me one lock washer as well.

Update 4/23/04, I moved this from a 4 star to a 5 star due to their customer service. I called and they sent me a tap to complete the threads. The were willing to replace the wing but I have done a lot of metal work in the past so finishing the hole was no problem. They were aware of the problem and were very appologetic. I used this on some cherry and boy is it nice. I would recomend this to anyone who has a space constrant in their shop.

First of all I would like to say that this is strictly a quality product. A perfect for for my Dewalt 746. Adjusting the router bit height could not be any easier due to no cabinet around the router. Due to my getting one of the first new type shipped I had to call customer service about a couple of issues. I just started up a shop and have had to call Powermatic, Dewalt, Bosch, Shop Fox, Delta, Kreg etc.about missing bolts, nuts, etc. and Bench Dog was by far the most knowlegeable, helpful and shipped the replacement items the fastest.
