5-0 out of 5 stars Great Clamps for woodworking.
These clamps have been around for ever. Any good woodworking shop has a pile of them. Get them in pairs at a minimum and get a variety of sizes you won't be sorry. They last a lifetime and more.

Oh yeah the other dimension you need to know is the distance from the tip to the middle spindle on this clamp is 6 inches.

5-0 out of 5 stars i love em
these clamps are ill as all... we had them in woodshop in school and they sure as hell can take a lot of abuse (if a constant 7 hours of use by highschool kids isnt abuse, i dont know what is) when i first started to buy tools my first purchase was 4 of these, you can never have too many of them, and they work perfectly and never mess up your work, i love em

5-0 out of 5 stars Jorgensen #2 clamps
I own a small cabinet makeing shop and have been useing Jorgensen clamps for years. I prefer the number 2 because its a middle of the road size for most wood working projects. My number one preference for the clamp is the way the wooden handles are attached to the threaded steel. I have never twisted a handle off yet when clamping. The versatility of the clamp also allows you to clamp irregular pieces together by not drawing the clamp together uniformaly. The hard maple does not mar your work surfaces either. Another plus to Jorgensen clamps has to be the ease of glue cleanup when a little to much runs onto the clamp. A great clamp that either a novice or experienced woodworker will come to depend upon when working on there favorite project ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Put the squeeze on the Competition
This type of clamp is easily opened or closed by pedaling it like a bicycle. It is quickly adjusted and holds firmly. And of course, it is very portable. I used to use these in shop class in high school, in the late '40's. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great clamp - Only available from the Tool Crib
I have used these clamps and have about thirty of them ranging from the 36" ones to 72". I needed more and had a difficult time finding them until I tried the Tool Crib. I wont use any others for my work. They are light and easy to manage. The only improvement I would recommend is more notches for adjustment than the standard one per inch. Great clamps!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lightweight clamp -- great results
I have and use 12 of these aluminum clamps. They don't get stickey from glue, or rust and discolor your wood project. They are intended for normal glue-ups, which means that you start with good-fitting joints. If anyone is having trouble with binding or sticking of the clamp parts, they have been exceeding the intended uses of this tool. Very few "bar" type clamps are rated for bending wood, or wood laminations into a form. These clamps excel when doing edge-to-edge glue-ups, a process that can suffer from too great of a clamp pressure. Use these clamps for your next cabinet project, you won't be sorry ....

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Clamp
I own a lot of clamps and this is the worst built clamp I have ever seen. When you turn the screw to remove the clamp, the screw comes loose from the jaws, and the jaws stay clamped with noway to remove them except to pry or beat them loose. Would never buy again. Always thought Jorgensen was a good name. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars These are nice clamps for a medium-heavy duty clamp
These heavy duty models from Bessey are a lot beefier than the picture shows. Definitely a strong clamp. I bought a couple to hold things down on the drill press, and for general purpose work. The clamping mechanism works well without any hassles. Easy to adjust, lot's of pressure, and looks substantial. Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars have plenty
One of the essentials when setting up a shop. You need multiples of all sizes. The Jorgensen along with the Pony pipe clamps are my favorites. They are easy to set up and use, they hold the piece tight and with the rubber pads they don't mar the wood. They also make a 24" and above with a ratcheting system (very nice). You can't go wrong with Jorgensen. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate For Light Clamping Chores
If these clamps are used as their design is intended (gluing up cabinet, drawer, etc joints), they perform adequately. The thumbscrew works just fine for applying the desired pressure. The adjustable head moves freely and effortlessly IF the bar is clean. Be sure to immediately remove any glue drippings that finds its way to the bar or the next time you go to move the head it will hang up. I used these clamps in gluing up a 2x4 laminated workbench top. This operation stretched them (and then some) to the maximum of their capability. Multiple clamps spaced closely together were required to press the bow out of some of my pieces. In retrospect, a heavier duty ¾" Pony clamp would have been better fitted for this particular job. But if you use these within their limits, they will perform for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woodworking essential
I have four of these clamps and I need about eight more. When it comes to achieving a strong solid glue joint, good clamping is absolutely essential. These clamps are easy to use with the sliding clamp head and can apply a strong pressure to the piece you're gluing. You can put a wood shim under the jaws to avoid marring the wood surface. The bar will rust if not oiled or waxed but a little steel wool will clean it up. The 36" will handle most clamping needs and the price is low enough to allow buying enough for uniform clamping.

5-0 out of 5 stars Woodworkers wife
I am buying some clamps for my husband for Father's Day and thought the Quick-Grip clamps would be good. My husband said they are convenient, but if you really need to squeeze something tight go with a good old fashioned clamp. He likes these (24" and 34").

5-0 out of 5 stars Good general purpose clamps for the price
These clamps are a good cost effective way to accumulate a collection for making cabinets, without going broke. The bars do flex a lot under high clamping force, but usually this much force is not needed for glued joints.

I have 8 of these right now in various lengths and will add more later.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Strongest Clamps I've Used
There is a saying in woodworking that you can never have enough clamps. Well, these are the clamps we are referring to when we say that.

These clamps are terrific, with incredible strength. You get good leverage on the thumbscrew -- incredible power with minimal effort. If, for example, you glue up a bookshelf and the shelves have some separation from the walls, these clamps will bring them nice and flush, and hold them that way until the glue sets.

The only thing you have to remember is that, with this kind of strength, you have to take a couple of precautions. First, you should be careful not to OVER-tighten the clamps. If you're clamping up boards to make a wide panel, for example, you want to tighten just enough until some glue squeezes out -- beyond that and you could warp the board. Also, you have to pad your wood before tightening. All I do is use a 1/2" thick piece of scrap wood wedged between the clamp mouth and the project wood.

If you do a lot of woodworking, I would say that you have GOT to have a whole stack of these ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good light duty bar clamp
If you are going to use this for clamping with any significant force, get a heavier clamp. Working with picture frames and similar light work, or in reduced lengths, this clamp will work well for you. When I stretch it out to ~15 inches and apply enough force to push 2 x 4's together on a biscuit, it flexes by bowing the I-beam in a semi-circular arc. This throws the jaws out of alignment and applies and off center force that causes the joints flex out of square.

In summary, if you are doing light work, this clamp is a great value. If you need moderate clamping force, save your money and buy a more appropriate clamp that won't flex on you.

4-0 out of 5 stars An essential home craftsman's clamp.
This clamp is the perfect little tool to have around your house when you're building or mending small drawers or chairs. This is not a heavy duty piece, but you can manually tighten it to the point where it damages your object. Its important to remember that it doesnt have cushions and you need to use some kind of wooden or hard rubber spacer to protect the surface of your object. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hi I'm Bob
I'm a certifiable clamp junkie & I prefer the Jorgensen line. I've strayed off the straight & narrow occasionally & tried other brands but I've always come back to Jorgies. Simple & bullit-proof, nice thick cushy pads & a clutch system that engages without fuss every time. The minis are great for light duty clamping, getting into tight spots & setting up jigs. For these jobs I like the 8" length, not too short & not too long. I think Jorgensens design is as good as anyone's, their quality control consistantly a cut above & their price a little easier on the pocket book. Jorgensens definitely see the most use on my workbench. Now if I could just find a woodworkers anonymous meeting........ ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars From a woodworker
Furniture making is a hobby of mine. This clamp has been useful in a variety of situations with stationary and hand held tools. That's why I'm waiting for another to arrive. I let it sit at the base of my drill press on a magnet. I bought it to hold down pieces as they were drilled but have found it handy throughout the shop. I also have many 3/4" and 1/2" pipe clamps, one hand operation clamps, and many C clamps. This clamp provides the greatest force with the least effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tool of Many Uses
I have used my pair of these as glueing clamps, construction clamps, hold down clamps, stop block clamps and who knows what else.

They were real handy when I was assembling my Jet 5hp table saw (see that review). I used two of them to hold up the cast iron extension tables while I aligned them and tightened the bolts. That was HEAVY duty. They are easy to adjust and can be operated with one hand once the screw is adjusted to the grip thickness.

Every shop needs a variety of Vise-Grips to survive. How DID man survive before Vise-Grips? ... Read more
