Good as new
If not for the "factory reconditioned" labeling, I could not distinguish this from a new item. (Maybe I was lucky to get clean one, seeing the other reviews.) It works just fine.
Here are some observations to help you make your purchase decision:
-- I think that the 14.4v size is the best compromise between power and weight. My Black&Decker died part-way through the construction of my new deck, so I borrowed an 18v DeWalt from a neighbor and a 12v Makita from another neighbor while I was shopping for a new one. I found that the 18v was too heavy, but the 12v didn't have enough oomph and needed more frequent recharges. I got to finish the deck project with my reconditioned 14.4v and found to be JUST RIGHT.
-- One thing I liked about the DeWalt I borrowed that my Makita does NOT have is the all-metal ratcheted chuck available on the DeWalt XRP series. This allows you to tighten and loosen the chuck with one hand. But for average home-owner usage, the Makita chuck is just fine.

-- When shopping both online and at local discount home improvement stores, I found that the reconditioned verison is roughly a third less than new, making it a very good value, especially if you live somewhere that this can be shipped without sales tax. The free shipping that Amazon.com offered at the time I bought it was another advantage.

Disappointed
I hope the drill operates better than it looks. The drill looks well used. Not what I expected.

After 3 uses the torque setting no longer works. I can't even drive a sheetrock screw in with this drill with out the clutch slipping. What a waste of money and time. I'm buying Dewalt and Porter Cable from now on...and I won't be buying them online.

Makita NIMH Battery does not last 30% longer
I purchased this Makita drill with the NIMH battery because I work in the construction trade and I wanted a battery that I did not have to recharge all the time. The drill works well for me but one of the NIMH batteries do not seem to last 30% longer as Makita claims. When I charge the battery on friday and try to use it on Monday, the battery has drained to where I have to recharge it again, in fact my 9.6 volt Makita lasts longer than the 14.4 volt. I have sent it in to Makita under the one year warranty but they sent it back saying the batteries are "ok". I am not happy with this Makita kit, the money I saved buying a remanufactured drill was not worth it, now I have to buy a new battery and will be paying more money than if I would have bought the kit brand new at Home Depot.

Makita Rules in This House
I love my Makita 14-volt cordless drill. Make sure you get at least 12 volts guys if you're into anything remotely serious, including construction or building your own deck.

I've gone through two American drills- B&D- and this Makita has taken a beating. Dropped two stories, buried under a pile of timber, dropped down stairs and got a good soak once. (I don't recommend trying any of that.) The battery holds a charge for a decent bit and doesn't take long to recharge.

I wasn't set on the brand, but kept seeing it used by contractors and serious volunteers at a housing project. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to buy another drill. (Worth the money!)

Minature right angle drill driver
I'm a contractor have installed lots of kitchens.I have had this tool for almost ten years and am buying a second. One will be used for drilling, the other as a driver.It is the perfect tool for installing cabinets and will allow you drill and screw together cabinets as narrow as nine inches. It is nice that is light and allows you to get in into akward positions without too much pain. Stone house drill!
As the owner of a stone house, I need to have a drill like this just to hang stuff on my walls. And it does the job. From satellite dishes to picture frames (outside and in) it can drill through the toughest rock -- and better than the competitors tools. The hammer function works great and the batteries have a good long use time when fully charged. I've also used it for drywall and cabinet installations. And I use it most heavily for maintainance on stalls, doors, and other hardware on my barn and feneces.

Excellent tool
I have owned and used several other brands of cordless tools. This by far the most powerful and dependable. With one of the cordless tools I had used it so much that I had to replace the gear cartridge in just a few minutes. I was quite surprised at how low the cost was. When I am on a job and ask to use another tool it is obvious that the person didn't spend the money to get a good tool just by the sound of the tool.

This cordless drill is quiet and powerful. I also like the fact that I can turn the battery around to adjust the balance of the tool.

A few moths ago I asked a local supplier why he didn't handle the same drill. He told me that they cost more than the others. I mentioned that they are a better tool. He agreed and told me that people didn't want to spend that much money.

If you want a drill that will go every day and have a lot of power with good control then get this Milwaukee.

A great battery powered drill motor!
I have used the factory-reconditioned Milwaukee #0522-84 18-Volt 1/2" T-Handle Driver/Drill purchased on Amazon.com for the past two months. It is a great tool! The chuck works well and the tool has the power to let me keep on working when others are swapping out their battery packs. I have used this tool to drive screws through over 20 pallets of a drystack concrete brick product, and it was well up to the task.

The perfect cordless for professionals!
And the price break for buying it reconditioned helps too! I love this drill because it has all the POWER I have been looking for but never found in a cordless. Having 2 batteries is a real plus as well, for obvious reasons. However; if you are the occasional-honey-do-list-guy, this drill may not be for you. It is pretty heavy compared to most. One really cool thing the manufacturer did to compensate was that they made the battery clip on either way. This changes the weight balance and ehances clearance into difficult areas. The only problem I am having with this product is that my brother desperately wants one and they are back-ordered!

Wow now that's a drill!!!
I am a new homeowner with constant repairs, and projects. The repairs included building a large fence to close in my back yard. I use the tool for almost any job around the house. It has inspired me to try other projects including building a deck. The drill as the most power I have ever seen in a cordless tool and I look forward to increasing my Milwaukee tool collection.

Milwaukee 18 Volt 1/2" Hammer/Drill/Driver
What a great tool! It is a little heavy, but it is also rugged and reliable. I bought it to install a mortarless brick system on the exterior walls of our new church. It holds up to a morning of hammer drilling holes in bricks and driving screws through 3/4" furring and 5/8" gypsum sheathing into heavy gauge metal studs.

When you want to relax and build a nice 16 foot floating dock or that deck your wife has been asking for since you can't remember when, the Milwaukee 18 volt Hammer Drill makes light work of drilling deck screws into wolmanized lumber.

I have seen other comments that the batteries are hard to remove, but for the life of me I can't see what is so hard about changing this tools battery. It also has a nice feature of being able to plug the battery in from the front or rear which helps get into some tight places with this tool.

High quality tools
I already owned two portable, battery powered drills when I purchased this set because I wanted the cordless sawzall. Not only am I pleased with the cordless sawzall, but the cordless drill is the best one I own. It is much higher quality than the two Porter-Cable drills I own. Power screwdriver
This IS one of the BEST drivers I've owned. I have owned others, but this one has been the best! It has the power to drill into walls and some softwoods (2X4's) plus drive Tech screws without predrilling a hole. The only thing I would have done different is buy a second battery.

SCREWS BUT WON'T DRILL
This tool seems to operate fine but don't try to use the drills that come with it because the Jacobs Chuck needed to hold the drill bits is not included in the reconditioned model according to a Milwaukee spokesman, even though the chuck is shown in the pictures as included in the kit.

One could go buy a Jacobs Chuck or better yet, buy a set of drill bits with hex bases that will fit in the tool. This will set you back atleast $10.

Flexible and tough power screwdriver
I've owned one of these for a couple of years now. I have found that the ergonomics of the driver are excellent.

The power is more than adequate - the high speed being just perfect and the low speed providing enough torque to undo all but the most stubborn of screws and bolts.

The clutch is extremely handy because it prevents overtightening and breaking off screw heads.

About my only complaint would be that battery management isn't what I'd like. Not quite enough battery life on a charge - and batteries seem to wear out (as in become unuseable and won't take a charge) relatively quickly. However that is just my personal view - Perhaps my expectations are unreasonable. Conside that my experience is that the B&D Versapak battery system isn't as long lasting as this.

I do not recomend this as an all-day tool for someone who works on an assembly line, for example. But certainly it is a more than excellent device. Beautifully designed and built with real metal gears inside.

Don't buy this one! Buy a new one instead
I would say this is a great deal and would feel comfortable with it being reconditioned if it came with two batteries like a new one. What do they do with the other battery when it comes back, throw it away? Another battery will cost you around $90 and you need two. Anyway, I've owned one of these for 4 years and it is still going strong. This is an excellent product.

The Best Cordless You'll ever buy
I've had 4 different cordless drills. My wife bought me this one 3 years ago and I virtually used it steady for two years while building a new house for my son. It is a great drill with plenty of power and with the extra battery you don't need to worry about running out of soup.

Only one Battery?
A reconditioned Panasonic drill for $159.00 is great if you get the two batteries with it. On a new one you get two baterries for $199.00, I don't see the savings personally.

A Strong and Reliable Cordless
We have been using these drills in our plumbing fabrication shop for four years now.Started with two in '98 bought another in'99.We use them to torque No-Hub clamps,tighten U-Bolts(much faster than wrench or ratchet),drive screws,small bolts and nuts as well as drilling up to 3/8" holes in 1/4" mild steel.Also works great for cleaning copper fittings with the wire fitting brushes and short copper pipe nipples when placed over the fitting brush.Battery life and run time is great on these drills and all three are still mechanically good. ... Great drill, but the saw is for lefties.
After seeing the glowing review of the battery charge longevity in Fine Homebuilding I decided to stray from the conventional tool manufacturers and buy a panasonic. I was blown away buy the power packed into this compact drill. It seemed like a week before I had to recharge the battery, so I was sold. I ordered the wood combo-kit (in spite of the fact that it only came with the 3.0 amp batteries-not the monsterous 3.5 amp ones provided with the drill alone) and fortunately had read the previous review and bought the blade as well. Perfect out of the box when it arrived I jumped right in and grabbed the saw, eager to start cutting the promised 210 crosscut 2x4s. First thing I realized was that the drill is set up for a left handed user (look closely at the picture and then think of your old skillsaw...). I can't fault the drill and the saw is a great help; you don't realize how often you'd use it until you get one-it's so light you don't even think twice of making the heretofore extremely dangerous overhead cuts. All in all Panasonic has made a fabulous drill (aside from the high pitched whine of the chuck gear-and that really is the only fault of the drill, not bad) but I wish they made a right handed version of the saw.

Great Tools but where is the saw blade?
The saw is pictired with a blade in it... But guess what? It is not included with this set, beware and order one as well, otherwise that project will have to wait.

Can't beat it
Both tools arrived looking brand new, no scratches or dings. Panasonic remains on top of the tool heap because of great cordless wood eaters like this combo. ... Read more

Worth the money
In my job, sheetmetal mechanic portability and durability are two of the most important factors dealing with hand tools.The 3/8 and 1/2 inch porter cable drill meets those demands.With the dual gear switch you can adjust the speed and with the torque adjustment you can ensure to eb on the safe side when using the drill motor as a driver for screws or bolts 5/16 up to 1/2" I would recomend the 1/2 drive for larger bolts. Whether I'm on the ladder or a scissor jack I have enough other tools in my pouch so dragging cords chuck keys etc makes my job more hassle. The portability of this item is great,as for the flashlight now talking about brightness it will definately give you some serious light as well with its rotary head making it hands free it will stay on most horizontal surfaces or if needed upsidedown it may be secured with a small rope thereby allowing to have the light over your shoulder and rotate the head as required. Battery charges in a resonable time allowing for continuous use have one on the charger and oprating with one. The draw back I've found is the keyless chuck ensure chuck is tight or it will cause the dill bit or driver to stop while penetrating the material being drilled a regular key chuck would ensure proper tightness without jaw damage and a satisfied user Bothe portability and durability are highly accented byt eh sturdy case housing the dill light charger and battery. THE BEST DRILL EVER MADE!
I bought this drill for my husband and it is great. He has worn out every other drill that he has used such as snap on, 12v porter cable, and several other drills but this one stands up to the test. I am hoping this will be the last one i will ever buy and so far i have nothing but praise for it. The batteries last forever and its great that it comes with two so there is no waiting. Best Drill Ever!
I am a professional developer/renovator. Working in old houses often means tough studs and hardwood floors and timbers that need some agressive power and other battery powered drills i have used failed the test, and this one has the strength and stammina to mix thin set mortor for the ceramic tile jobs we often do. This will be my third purchase of the same drill. My plan is to include this item in every work truck's tool box. If you only have one power tool, this out preforms a skill saw in use and versitility.

The drill that built the dock
What a great drill! I recently built 4 - 16 foot floating docks
to replace some old piling mounted docks that succumbded to the ravages of time and ice. We were armed with several battery and corded drills. At the end of the day this was the drill still driving screws while the rest were waiting for their batteries to recover.
