Here comes power and efficiency in a great compact size. Before you even press the trigger, you'll love how this tool fits in your hand, how well-balanced it is. The rubberized grip gives you a sure, comfortable hold, even at odd angles. Performance is top-notch, thanks to dual ball bearings, precision balancing and a refined high-grade field magnet. We're really impressed by Makita's exclusive Shift Lock Drive. With a single touch, you shift quickly and easily "drill" to "driver" mode, locking out the clutch for superior drilling. And we love it when manufacturers include two batteries with their tools, because that means no down time. The charger handles multi-volt batteries, too, so it's good for a wide range. Maintenance is simple because the brushes are accessible. A great, hardworking drill/driver.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars shock and awe, in a blue package...
Disregard all unfavorable reviews...this drill is yet another work of art from Makita! Perfect ergonomics and balance, even with a hefty 18V battery you still get incredible control and precision, instead of sweating and straining to keep the darn thing perpendicular to the drilling surface as with cheaper drills. This is my second Makita drill, the first one was a smaller 14.4v which I'll pass on to my wife because it's lighter.

I love America, born and bred, but gotta hand it to the Japanese: when it comes to anything electric (or gasoline-powered, for that matter) they kick our butts left and right! Sony TVs, Toshiba laptops, Lexus autos, Honda motorcycles...anything that doesn't blow up things and kill people, the Japanese simply have perfected.

Have used DeWalt drills before, they were just a little bit better than Black and Decker (the mother company) which doesn't justify the big price jump. Porter Cable has good power but tends to weigh a ton and their chucks are spotty.

Viva Makita!

3-0 out of 5 stars solid drill with a few caveats
This is my third makita drill so I consider myself biased. I don't use it all day but I need a quality drill for household repairs. The electric makita drill I've had now for fifteen years and it still runs fine. My second, I bought one of those 9 volt drills when the first cordless drills came out. I good drill but it's for light work. The batteries on this I've used all day without a recharge, alot longer than the models a few years ago. I've had problems with the chuck though. On many occasions the drill bit will come loose with smaller bits. The cap has come loose. Still it's put up with all the abuse I've given it.

2-0 out of 5 stars smoked and croaked
After using the makita for 6 months it smoked and croaked. I was unscrewing deck boards and after a hour and 1/2 I noticed it getting warm then suddenly began to smoke. My work partner was using a Miluakee 18 volt and it kept at it all day.

5-0 out of 5 stars ALL THE POWER YOU NEED!
The Shift Lock Drive System is the easiest clutch lockout I've ever used. Two 2.6 amp-hour batteries and the quick charger can keep you going with out delays. Balance and the light weight make this easy to use, the 18-volt power makes it a pleasure.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed
Transmission broke after three months of use. Had to buy a Porter Cable while I wait three business days for mine to be repaired. Being a diehard Makita guy I should have learned by now that while their saws and such are great, the drills still need alot of work. Too expensive for homeowner use, and kinda weak to rely on for the professional. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Loads of power, but is that enough to make the big leage?
We use this driver for running in ½ x 12 lag bolts through pilings. This putts a lot of stress on a driver. The DeWalt has more then enough power to handle this and all lesser tasks. I have used several hammer drivers and hammer drills in my business, this is truly the undisputed "Power King"; however, after running hundreds of lags and screws I encountered a few shortcomings with the DeWalt:\

1. On two of these drivers the anvil (hammer thingy) inside stripped out in less then 3 months. On the plus side, DeWalt replaced them, no questions asked.

2. It a nightmare to get inside and replace the brushes on the work site. Combine that with the reluctance of our rep. to even get the brushes addes up to sending them in for R&R (repair and rebuild) at the cyclic rate. Time = money. I still don't know if the brushes can be replaced, how to do it, or if that is even the problem. I suspect it is due to a small amount of graphite looking dust around the air exhaust vents after long use.

All in all, not bad for hundreds of BIG lags, but to put it into perspective, we also use Makita 24 volt hammer drivers. These have run thousands of big lags with no problems at all! The Makita brushes are a few bucks for a pack and can be replaced in a minute.
My bottom line is: Get the DeWalt for lower production work that needs lots of power, but if you have your driver turning day on stay on, you might want to consider a Makita hammer driver in the 18 - 24 volt range.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than i expected!
I own a few Dewalt tools so i have a lot of experience with the
quality of the brand and I am more than impressed with this impact drill. It drives self tappers in 3/16" steal with no problem. If your in the market for a light weight
impact with lots of power this is the ticket. ... Read more

A drill/driver is a great tool, but not for every application, unless of course you consider stripped screws part of the charm of doing it yourself. Some jobs simply need the added muscle only an impact driver can provide, and the 14.4-volt cordless DeWalt DW054K-2 is one impact driver worth a look. At first glance, the DeWalt driver looks a little weak. After all, it measures only 6-1/2 inches and weighs just 4.1 pounds. But don't let appearances fool you. Under that slight exterior beats the heart of a champ. The driver produces an amazing 1,150 in./lbs. of maximum torque, making it ideal for even the toughest jobs and the tightest applications, where comparable drivers simply couldn't reach. The unit features an all-metal transmission, a durable magnesium gear case and an all-metal quick release chuck that accepts 1/4-inch hex shank bits. A textured, anti-slip comfort grip provides ultimate comfort and stability. A specially designed impacting mechanism reduces kickback -- and fatigue. And a variable-speed trigger switch with electric brake means better overall control.--Carl Thress ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt's DW054 14.4v Impact Driver
I have used a few impact drivers in my day. Just recently I purchased the new 14.4v Impact for work. I am very impressed with it power and vesatility. I just hope I can stop myself from using it all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sudden Impact
This summer I decided to build three decks and install a three-rail fence around my property. These projects require a lot of fastening with 3 inch deck screws. I used my drill/driver for my first deck and my wrists were hurting from the torquing action. I received my impact driver and put it to use immediately. The Dewalt impact driver drives these screws quickly and effortlessly and I've tossed my drill/driver aside. I would highly recommend this tool to anyone using a drill to drive-in screws, lag bolts, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars great new technology- what took them so long
i am a 53 year old carpenter-builder who has carried my 18 volt dewalt for several years on my toolbelt (heavy). The batteries are going, my shoulder is going, and i can't get into tight places. The Dewalt impact took care of all the above problems. I took a chance (because there were no real reviews) and bought it -and I love it - you will not believe how small it is!!! Here is some real data - the first day on the job site we were trying it out and we drove ONE (the same one) 3 inch galvanized screw (the kind that strip easy) in and out 6 times without stripping the head (we stopped testing with no sign of stripping but the screw was really hot )- the amazing thing is that the impact is just as helpful backing the screw out.
Hex ended drills are readily available and were tested in wood and 3/8 steel - no problem. (i have only found smaller -1/4'' -high speed bits readily available) The dewalt hex ended spade bit (3/4'') cruised through wood with much less effort than my 18 volt. My only question is how durable it is. Time will tell - but beyond that I am happy as hell with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars DeWalt Cordless Impact Driver
Okay DeWalt has created another must have tool. It is compact and has the torque for the big driving jobs that would require frequent battery changes or a finish up with a hand wrench. Now be ready and hang on as this will drive 99% or our needs for heavy torque jobs. See model DW055K-2 for the 1/2" driver output. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best tool in 2 decades!
Being a door installer, I ordered this tool as soon as it came out. Awesome! Drives hinge screws in with no problem. Drills up to 1/4" bits without impacting. Where was this tool 5 years ago? My 18v drills are semi-retired, who needs a corded drill now. An earlier reviewer said he had problems finding hex drill bits. Most home improvement stores carry them in sets and you can sharpen them accurately with a Drill Doctor sharpening system when they dull. But as always we want more speed, can't get enough. I'm sure that with 2 brands out now that are faster, Dewalt will step up to the plate and deliver the knockout punch, til the next round at least. You can't go wrong with this one. Get one today.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing !
Being a DeWalt tool owner I decided (for charging reasons) to stick with them. This tool is awsome!I tried driving a screw right through a 2x4 didn't slow it down !Any one doing electrical work with greenlee knockout punches(slug busters)get the 1/2 socket adapter for the inpact driver put a 1" socket on it and make some holes on electrical boxes !It goes so fast I don't dread using the slugbusters anymore. It is getting so I rarely use my 18v drill except to drill, not to drive screws anymore !

5-0 out of 5 stars One wasn't enough!!
In my company we do alot of weatherstripping installs and we remove AC vents and replace them after working on the ducting. I am obsessed with tools if it is out there I have to have it. Usually I will have it within a week of its release, most of my tools are Dewalt, but honestly they do not make all tools up to par. In this case I do not have a problem with buying a different brand to get the best for the job. This being said I bought the first impact that hit the home improvement store in my area charged it up on the way to the jobsite so I could try it out. I was impressed right away so I let others on my crew use it to see what they thought roughly twenty people had tried it by the end of the day on the charge of the two batteries. On seeing these results I decided that this was the tool of choice for our business and went to buy a few more. Upon arriving at the home center they were out so I had to order them. After talking to the crew several said they would like to have an impact themselves. So I went and ordered twelve more impacts and none of the crew have been disappointed with the tool. A month went by are our crew had increased in size as did the amount of work and so I went and ordered fourteen more impacts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost a complete drill replacement
As a proffesional contractor who relies on my tools to feed my family I have to say this tool is a winner. I was introduced to it by a finish carpenter who had been using one he got as a gift. It has almost replaced my regular heavy 18v drill. the hex bits work great, but beware of breaking them easily. Also the hex drill bits can not be resharpened easily. Between this tool and the Dewalt 7.2v screwdriver, I have gone from using my big 18v drill daily to less than weekly. I love this tool for setting and removing tapcon screws in concrete!!! nothing is better!! I also discovered that by placing a soft brass rotarly brush in it, it is a wonderful tool to cleen off wood, concrete, and sidding. I used to have my assistant clean the concrete splatters off of sidding until I discovered this. Now instead of taking the better part of a hour to clean a porch, it is done in less than 10 minutes and usually less than 5. Time is money and this tool saves time in a big way. The only major downside is the cost of hex accesories and the quality of them. You will definitely get what you pay for in them, so don't scrimp and buy the cheapies. Especially screwdriver bits, they break too easy and you'll just end up going through them faster. I highly recomend using square drive screws with this tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!!!
I have just received mine and it's better than I expected. I initially wanted to buy a Makita, but after countless hours of research, and comparing both specifications, the Dewalt has the Makita beat. More power, faster, lighter, smaller, and in my opinion, much better looking. Also cheaper. ...This is by far my favorite tool. I just wish that I could find drill bits that have 1/4 in. shank. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Maby-
I bought this kit about 3 weeks ago. Do not buy the cordless circular saw. I could only cut a pice of plywood about 20x30 inches on one charge. The drill has only 1 drawback- the cruck is strange and when you try to grab it to tighten down, it slips out of your hand. Flashlight is increadibly bright. The sawzall is nice, but my Craftsman sawzall can out perform it. This kit might be nice for a home owner, but for saws, go corded.

Hope this Helped-

4-0 out of 5 stars saw is worthless, but everything else is great!
I bought this set just before xmas. It took a few charge cycles before the batteries held their full charge. The saw is worthless compared to anyother cordless saw, but the drill and recpricating saw are a great addition to anyones tool collection. There needs to be an ability to purchase new batteries though. Ive searched the web and not been able to find anyone who offers them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Undecided
Tools look great and do a great job as long as the battery last but I'm not sure if these tools will satisfy someone whom will use them heavely. The circular saw claims 70 2x4s per charge, I've only used it on 2x6s and the batt only lasted for 5 of them. The sawsall eats them even faster. The flashlight is also only half as brite as my DeWalt 12v.I'm hopeful that after a few cycles the batt will increase there run time. Have not used drill enough to rule on.I might change my mind in future but right now I can neither recommend for or against buying. Tried again, batts did not last as long as the first time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Skil Combo Tool Pack
This package sure got a lot of oohs and aahs when it showed up at GadgetGuys.com. Like the drill with the built in light, and built in stud finder. Love the soft sided case. The hard sided cases are cumbersone to carry and store. Like the energy indicator on batteries--hate starting a job when I'm up on a ladder and the darn battery dies. Full review at www.gadgetguys.com.

3-0 out of 5 stars Undecided
I'm not sure if I should buy this set - The drill is a little under-powered (300in/lbs torque)for an 18v model. Most 18's put out around 400in/lbs. Does anyone know the circ. saw arbor diameter? It is extremely hard to find tech. info. on this set. Even the official Skil website has nothing on it. I finally hunted down a picture of this set (at Lowes website) and was disappointed to see that the circ. saw has a right side blade. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible set of tools
This is my first set of cordless tools. They are unreal. When working on a roof or away from a power supply this is the only way to go. We used the hammer drill to drill for and set over 300 tapcons in cement block. It never slowed down except when the batteries needed changed which was not that often. The circular saw will amaze you with its power. Radio is now the first tool out of the truck. The hatchet is not as pwerful as a corded one but with the adjustable handle and the ability to make one or two cuts without having to drag out the cord more than makes up for the lesser power. I love this set and would recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars No problems thus far....
I have had the set up for a year now.
1) I use the radio everytime I go into the shop. It has ports for CD player which I hook up my Mp3 too and sounds great, It says you can recharge your cell phone with a spare outlet but I have not tried it. I also like plug on the cord. It has a female end on it so you don't plug up a outlet when you plug in. It has a bay to accept a 18 v battery and is easily portable. Nice unit.

2) The drill is powerful. I know the dewalt fans say they like the reverse on the dewalt but I like the power and thin handle which is easier to hold for me. It also comes with a strap handle so you can really put screws in deep with out breaking your wrists. I never boggs down...pure power almost more than I need unless Im going to bulid a deck in a day .

3.) The hatchet I used when I renovated my dads bathroom and although it was portable it really seemed underpowered when put side by side to its eletrical big brother. My cousin and I tested them side by side on studs and the corded sawzall ripped through twice as many in a wall demolition. The Hatchet does do the job and I porbably would not of noticed it if my cousin didn't bring his sawzall. Also one has to take in consideration of the portability and the folding handle to get into tight places.

4.) The Circ Saw is sweet. Its the only one I own and it cuts everything from plywood sheets to finish work. I put a thin matashuta blade on it and it works great. plenty-o power with postitive stop on releasing the trigger. The saftey on the switch is awkward, but I guess it would not be "safe" if it were easy to depress. Nice unit too.

5.) The light is a light with more Volts added to the battery. I have a hitachi 9.6 volt that is relative to brightness to this one, but the clear advantage is longer battery life with the 18 volts and brightness in the tail end of battery death. This light came in handy in a black out and my wife thought I was a genius when a blackout hit us and I pulled them out.

Overall its pricey but I am really glad I made the purchase. I know the power is there when I need it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing But Heavy Duty!
I'm a believer. These tools are the standards which others are measured against... and come up short. The hammer drill has 495 in./lbs. of torque and is bulletproof. The Sawzall 'Hatchet' is an engineering marvel. The circular saw has plenty of power and a blade brake, which is very desirable. The radio rocks! A worklight and monstrous contractor's bag are just icing on the cake. Milwaukee's lifetime warranty makes this purchase a no-brainer.

2-0 out of 5 stars WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!
I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A DEWALT FAN, BUT DECIDED TO TRY THE MILWAUKEE BRAND- BIG MISTAKE! THE SAWZELL WORKED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR OUT OF THE BOX BEFORE THE SWITCH AND BUSHINGS WENT BAD AND THEN THE METAL CHUCK ON THE DRILL IS OUT OF BALANCE AND VIBRATES. ALTHOUGH THE SERVICE CENTER WAS HRLPFUL, DEWALT MAKE A FAR SUPERIOR PRODUCT. THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING...

5-0 out of 5 stars keeps getting better
I have the Milwaukee combo 6514-25 and I love it, the only difference between the two is that this combo has a hammer drill instead of a standard drill/driver. You cant go wrong with either combo.
I did have a problem with the switch on the Hatchet, but Milwaukee fixed it superfast and shipped it overnight to me via Fedex, i have not had a problem with the hatchet since and that was about a year ago.
No matter which brand you buy theres always that risk that theres a defect. Whats sets the companies apart is how fast they will acknowledge and correct the problem. For my tool it took them less than a week. Milwaukee has great customer service. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic cordless drill/saw combo
I've owned a Panasonic 15.6V cordless drill for a couple of years now; it's a fantastic drill, the best I've seen or used. The Ni-Mh batteries are state-of-the-art; the feel and function of the tool is just about perfect. So I decided to get another along with with the cordless circular saw.

The saw is pretty good, kind of rinky-dink as far as rigidity of the saw base, but typical of these tools and it does everything I could want as long as I don't expect it to be a fine finish carpenter's saw.

So why don't I rate this kit 5 stars? Well, the blow-molded cases are worthless. If I pay $360 for a pair of good tools, I expect the case to be good too. This combo case is a huge, very inefficient storage unit with little room left over to easily store driver/drill bits, spare saw blades, etc. So minus one star for that.

And the saw has a 20mm arbor, which means you are pretty much stuck with buying Panasonic blades for the saw. You can't just go to your local hardware or Big Box store and get the typical sawblade that has a 1/2" arbor. Poor thinking, worth taking off another star.

It's too bad, I think. Panasonic definitely has the jump on every other cordless manufacturer as far as battery technology and ergonomics. They just need to work on a couple of details, and they'd be King.

Some of these manufacturer's oversights make me wonder just who does any "real-world" testing of this stuff before it reaches the marketplace. It can't be working tradespeople, or maybe Panasonic doesn't care much for the feedback?

5-0 out of 5 stars Panasonic tops all others
I managed a national-scope tool store for six years and have been working in construction trade full time for the last three years. The Panasonic drill and saw have proven to be physically tougher, batteries last longer, and have more power than DeWalt, Porter-Cable, and Makita, or any other drill I ever used, sold, or recieved customer feedback on. In our shop, the saw positively humbles our Makita and DeWalt cordless saws for power and battery life ( like 4-5 times the run time - no joke). Our 5 Panasonic 15.6v drills outpower and outlast all the drills we have ever used, including out 18V Makita and 19.2V Porter Cable, while being much lighter. If you try one of these, you will not be dissapointed. Only tip - pick up a few extra blades, they are a bit hard to come by.
Other companies may do a better job marketing, but Panasonic does a better job buiding quality tools that perform better than the others in a hard use setting such as my cabinet shop. ... Read more

When it comes to recip saws, Milwaukee is the undisputed king, the "Sawzall" name serving almost as a generic label for all reciprocating saws (to Milwaukee's chagrin, we're sure). The flattery is completely deserved, especially when you factor this model into the mix. It's the only cordless recip saw we've seen with orbital blade action for serious cutting jobs, yet it weighs under 6 pounds. Plus, it's incredibly compact and actually fits between 16-inch-on-center studs. Milwaukee's clever reversible battery mount lets you get into spaces other recips can only growl at. Adding to its charm is a six-position handle for even the most awkward cutting angles. And it cuts at an impressive0 to 2,700 strokes per minute. Milwaukee says their Hatchet will cut up to 85 2x4's on a single charge, but we have to admit we didn't test that capability. Milwaukee's Quik-Lok tool-free blade clamp is a breeze to use, and it takes universal 1/2-inch shank Sawzall blades. Tight quarters? Just reverse the blade. The other tool in the set, the Lok-Tor Hammer Drill, is the king of torque. Milwaukee's Lok-Tor models have an all-metal, single-sleeve ratcheting chuck with carbide jaws, so you know the grip is the ultimate. It has to be, because this drill stands ready to deliver 495 inch/pounds of torque. It feels great in hand, thanks to Milwaukee's thoughtfully designed grip and auxiliary handle. There's not a contractor out there who doesn't need this combo.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best I've Seen
This is my second Makita 3/8 12 volt. The first is over 3 years old and still going strong, while being used professionaly on a daily basis. It is extremely powerful, rugged, lightweight, and very well ballanced and the dedicated drill/drive switch is a new and very useful touch. In comparison to My friends Dewalts (even the more expensive XRP) the Makita is MUCH more reliable. His Dewalts have seen numorous returns and repairs, albiet with heavy use.(no moreso than I put my Makitas through, though!) My next purchace is going to be a right angle model of the same. Kudos to Makita. I highly reccomend them. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Makita 5090D
This is a great cordless circular saw for those light duty odd jobs...I used it to trim and cut cedar shakes while siding my house...a must for a job like this...it saved me the effort of lugging my table saw up to the roof... the saw will generally give you a full days worth of cutting b4 battery runs out...but I recommend having a spare battery around... not recommended for tough jobs, youll need a higher voltage or electric saw for those jobs...

1-0 out of 5 stars What they don't tell you!
At first glance the Makita 5090D looks like a good value. What they don't tell you that it is shipped without a battery or charger. If you don't already own a Makita 9.6 volt battery and charger, you must purchase a battery and charger separately in order to use it. The cost of of these items are about the same as the saw itself! I might give it more stars after the battery arrives and I can see how it works. Right now one star kind of describes my feelings.

1-0 out of 5 stars little stinker
I purchased this tool to make small cuts and I thought that because it was makita it would be awesome but, it was very noisy and performed like a cheap childs toy! It would not cut through the softest of pine without effort. I finally gave up on it and found out that by using a hand saw it saved a lot of time and worked better!! I would not buy this tool even if it cost $5.00. If I hadn't lost the reciept I would have took it back. I cant believe it is still in production DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Little Saw in Texas
Emphasis on "little." But... for some projects, it is indispensible. I have 4 blades for this saw and when I need to make minor/small/precision cuts, especially in hard to get to places, it's my buddy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
I was very disappointed in this Makita saw. I bought it thinking that I would be able to use it around the house for the times that I couldn't use my big 7 1/4" circular saw. I love Makita products, so I ...thought this product was for me. So I bought it. When I received it, I couldn't believe my eyes----NO CHARGER AND NO BATTERY---it doesn't come with the saw! Where I live, you just can't find stuff like the charger or the battery to run the thing! I had so much hope for this product, ...So if you're looking for a saw without a battery or a charger for the battery, then get this--... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
This tool was the workhorse of a room re-model in our house. Worked very well. If you need really high-speeds, you'll want to stick with a corded model. But, the portability of this tool makes it my favorite!

4-0 out of 5 stars Faster speeds a nice improvement
Dremel's other cordless rotary tools only go up to 15,000 rpm. I like the 9.6 volt cordless because it goes up to 25,000 rpm and makes smoother cuts.

5-0 out of 5 stars I use it outdoors all of the time
I still have my corded Dremel but I found I was only using my Dremel when I was outdoors. So I got the 9.6 volt cordless. I have sharpened my lawn mower blade with it, cut off rusted bolts on a basketball hoop and cut threaded rod on some fencing, all on the first charge of the battery. I'm just keeping it in my garage tool box until I have to recharge it. [....]

5-0 out of 5 stars Now I can Dremel outside!
I bought the tool. I like the tool. Enough said.

4-0 out of 5 stars Most used tool in my tool box
I'm not a big time do-it-yourself person or anything, but I have plenty of small jobs around the house that I use this tool for. First, the Amazon price was great and I got the tool in three days. I used the 7800 Dremel to drill all of the mounting holes for drapery rods in my house. I could even cut off part of the metal mounting bracket that stuck out too far with the Dremel and one of the Dremel cut off wheels. I like how it feels in my hand and I have even used it with the attachment to remove grout. My first Dremel and I like it! ... Read more
