Amazon.com Review

A remarkably compact tool, DeWalt's 3/8-inch, 3.2 amp right-angle drill is designed for electricians, plumbers, remodelers, and anyone else who works in tight places. The drill offers good speed (1,200 rpm) and weighs 3-3/4 pounds. The tool's most distinguishing feature is its paddle-type trigger, which runs nearly the length of the tool's body, allowing the user to engage the drill using all manner of inventive hand configurations. The molded neck makes the drill comfortable to grasp by the head, as well. The paddle trigger, however, does make it possible to engage the drill unintentionally while you're maneuvering or when you set the tool down. In order to make this drill so compact, DeWalt had to make a few design compromises. The tool has a keyed chuck; a keyless chuck, when you think about it, makes the drill's nose significantly longer. The drill also doesn't reverse, and depending on the materials you'll be drilling through, this is something to consider before you buy. But for anyone looking for an extremely compact drill that's built to last, this DeWalt is a smart buy. A key and a rubber key holder complete the package. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

Features

  • Keyed chuck for a more compact profile
  • 100% ball-bearing construction
  • Compact right-angle design for easy access in tight places
  • Paddle switch for easier grip in limited access positions
  • 1,200 rpm, single gear reduction

4-0 out of 5 stars DeWalts DW160
The construction of the DeWalt DW160 right angle drill is surprisingly good being that the enclosure is all plastic. The drill trigger is ruff cast aluminum and sized for someone with a certain size hand. The drill is made for right hand users and can not be converted to lefty. The trigger design could be improved upon by removing the bar that runs from the top to the bottom of the drill to allow you to grip the drill fully and not end up inadvertently turning it on. The weight of the drill is very good and the compactness is exceptional. It would have been better if this drill was available with a keyless chuck. The drill motor is very quite and supplies smooth operation but does not have variable speed. The power it provides for drilling through floor joists is more than adequate.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good sturdy drill
Bought this drill while I was rewiring several rooms in my house. Got it to drill through floor joists, and it did just that very well. Compact size with good power.

The handle/trigger is tricky, and I unplug it before changing bits or if I'm done using it for awhile. Otherwise you're likely to activate the drill accidentally. Did it once, luckily didn't get hurt.

But, the length of the trigger is good for one thing. With 2 x 10 joists, I was able to get the drill bit up into the upper part of the joist without having to stick my hand all the way up there. No keyless chuck, but that may be why it's compact. Keyless chucks are about 2-3 times as long as a keyed chuck, so for size issues, I don't mind it here.

4-0 out of 5 stars What no variable speed and reversing?
I did a lot of looking around at medium right angle drills. The drawbacks on the Dewalt is no variable speed, and no reversing. So it may be prone to stripping screws, and now way to reverse them out when they do. Ouch. For straight drill of holes it is great.
If you have air around, and don't need to make large holes in 2x12s, the air driver Porter Cable is sweet. Has air pressure, to create torque and variable speed adjustments, and has reversing capabilities, and is the best price on the block.
My pick is the Makita 110 volt model. It has the largest amperage motor in the medium duty range, has variable speed, reversing, and an adjustable speed limiting dial, an LED light to illuminate your work, and is guaranteed to last the lifetime of the tool.
Next is the Bosch with a slightly weaker motor at 3.8 amps, and doesn't have the speed range of the Makita, even though it is at the same price. Nice overall tool though.
Then comes the Milwaukee 55 degree angle drill. Fine for additional leverage while drilling, but could be a problem for deeper access areas when making 90-degree applications. Especially important in crammed quarters, when you would have to swing the body out the additional 35 degrees to get a 90-degree angle.
Black and Decker makes a lightweight unit, and will suffice for the occasional weekend warrior.
The Dewalt unit, fills a niche, but is a very good example of getting what you pay for. If it were not for the no reversing, and no variable speed capabilities, and for making the paddle switch so long, that gets in the way, even when you don't want it to, makes the unit, strictly for those who are price conscious first, and tool conscious later.
Wake up and smell the Makita. :-)

2-0 out of 5 stars Full time construction worker
I own this particular drill, although it is a powerful drill for a compact right angle drill, the major draw back for me is the non-reversing feature. What I have needed to use it for mostly is driving in screws in compact areas such as the inside of cabinets. If there is a need to remove the screw for adjustment of what you are working with you are really up a creek. Other than that it is also not variable speed which is not critical but would definitely be a plus if it were variable speed. I would recommend the makita model although not as powerful it has all the things the dewalt model lacks. P.S. A friend of mine has this drill and while trying to change the bit with the drill plugged in accidentally hit the trigger driving the chuck key deep into his hand. VERY PAINFUL!

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor Right Angle Drill
I purchased this drill two years ago when it first came out. While this drill is certainly heavy duty, it has been a disappointment. It has a very dangerous switch which is easily turned on when you are working in awkward positions, as typical with right angle drills. Also, it lacks variable speed and reverse which was not clear in the description when I bought it. My brother has a Milwaukee (made by Sioux) right angle drill which is hands down better which I would recommend instead. ... Read more

This is the perfect recip saw for the home do-it-yourselfer. It's priced attractively but doesn't skimp on the features. For the price, we're impressed with the 7.5 amp motor and variable speed, all the way from 0 to 2,400 strokes per minute--plenty for whatever your project needs. Also high on our list is the fact that it weighs only 6.8 pounds. If you've ever hefted one of the higher-end models, you'll appreciate the light weight, especially noticeable when you're cutting over your head and in other awkward positions. You'll really be pleased with the tool-free blade-change system; it's fast, easy and foolproof. When you're cutting, you'll notice that the ergonomic rubber grip and the cushioning on the front boot really cut vibration and improve your control. We can imagine putting this baby to use doing cutouts in drywall and studs for things like inset cabinets, cutting PVC for all kinds of projects--pipes during renovations, subfloors, joists, framing in a new door--you get the picture. A recip saw is one of the more versatile tools to have in your collection, and this one's a great buy for the homeowner.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the weekend warrior
This is a rugged saw with enough power for most jobs. There are a couple of plain steel starter blades included although you'll need better for serious work. I bent the wood blade on my second cut. Now, I *was* cutting pressure-treated wood, which is metal insinuated into the cellulose fibers. But even the "manual" (just a single large sheet, with many folds) recommends using bimetal blades because of their superior durability. I picked up a couple for about 5 bucks total and got to work.

The included case is nice. Note that you'll have to remove the blade when stowing the saw; it won't fit otherwise. But you can transport the saw without worrying about snagging the cord or damaging something.

Nice for the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love this saw...
First, I am a casual, around-the-house handyman, not a professional. So this saw is great for me. Not too expensive, but does everything I need it to.

Comes in a nice case, and I bought a couple of heavy duty blades at Home Depot for a project I needed to do. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars No Stripping Or Over-Tightening
Let me start out my saying that I love my wife for getting me this as a gift. This is the gift that just keeps on giving.

The Black & Decker 9074TB 3.6 Volt Screwdriver is perfect for any job around the house that would involve the painstaking task of driving in screws. I just finished putting up several shelves in my bedroom, and it has never been easier thanks to this wonderful product.

The automatic spindle lock gives you much better control, allowing for no stripping or over-tightening, or even just for simple, manual use. Its sleak design and narrow nose gives you the ability to get into tight places with great ease.

This is a well-designed product with a super charge life. Besides being durable and fairly lightweight, the wall-mounting charge base should make it a lot easier to find. This screwdriver works extremely well, and will make a fine addition to any tool box.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this thing.
I purchased some inexpensive "assembly required" furniture (coffee table, entertainment center, nightstand, and few other kits). As an afterthought, I purchased this rechargeable screwdriver. I'm glad I did.

Cheaper than a full function drill (and a lot lighter), this screwdriver is small, maneuverable and just what the doctor ordered. No more sore forearms and wrists. So far I've use it to assemble furniture, take apart PC cases, screw down hard drives, add new faceplates for phone jacks, and even drove a few screws into drywall.

When the battery runs out, or you need extra torque, you can lock it into manual and turn it like a regular screwdriver. It is well built and rugged. I highly recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars great for the average do-it-yourselfer
I got this for my spouse and he loved it. Its easy to use, runs as long as he needs for the minor projects and repairs he does. If you are a professional who'd use a tool like this, it won't last nearly as long as you'll need. The target audience should be the average John or Jane who really just wants to make the few times a screwdriver is needed a month less work so things get fixed in a timely fashion.

1-0 out of 5 stars JUNK - Broke after using TWICE
I received this driver for Christmas, used it twice, and then heard a loud grinding sound. After taking off the drive head, I noticed that two metal posts securing plastic gears had sheared!

By comparison, my Skil driver is going on 10 years!

B&D is JUNK!

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful, sort of.
I used to use a B&D cordless screwdriver, but gave it away when I found it often took as long, or longer to use this tool than using a manual screwdriver. Sure, it's faster when you have a LOT of screws or very long screws, but a cordless drill is faster still, and has the advantage of variable speed and more power. Using this screwdriver to drive long wood screws is an excercise in patience as you watch it sloooowly drive the screw in and then quit halfway as it runs out of power.

Cordless screwdrivers are cheaper than drills, true, but overall I think the classic 7.2volt Makita cordless drill is just about as compact, much more versatile, much more powerful, lasts much longer and will drive a lot more screws on a charge. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Near perfect little drill
As far as drills go, I own and use everything from a 13 amp hole dawg to a full 18 volt cordless system, but this is the one that I like to use the most. It's lightweight, and the battery seems to last forever, which is something I wish I could say about my 18 volt. The drill has excellent balance and the grip feels nice and smooth - no weird contours or diamond textures. The Makita batteries also have the smoothest button release. You really don't have to pinch hard to get the batteries to slide out. The trigger response is good for variable speed. It also has two basic settings for torque or speed and a good reverse/forward/safety switch. I wouldn't use it for heavier tasks like driving long screws, or boring large diameter holes in wood or metal, but then that's why there's higher voltages (i.e. 12, 14, 18, & 24) - isn't life GREAT. A word of caution for first time buyers: always buy quality. There has been a lot of marketing that hypes higher voltage cordless drills. Why get a 9.6 when you can get a 18 volt for the same price? You'll be tempted to go for the "home owner special," but always be aware. I've once used a friend's low-quality "14 volt" drill and I would wager that this little Makita could beat it in every way. And for the first reviewer who was disappointed with this drill, all I can say is sorry Clare, but I think somebody has dropped the drill hard. I should know. I've dropped mine several times, including a couple of times while standing on a 6ft latter. And guess what?? It can be fixed. All I did was open the little guy up and set the motor back into the gear housing. I've done this every time - after a hard drop - and it's easy for the mechanically inclined. Despite the abuse, the drill is still reliable today. My only gripe is that I think Makita should integrate a spare bit holder and give the plastic chuck more grip for hand tightening.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke in a little over a year
Needless to say, I am very disappointed with this product. I waited a long time to be able to afford one, when my old Black&Decker 7volt that I had for years and years finally died after I dropped it. This Makita was used very little, maybe twice a day/a few screws, and that's it. Never dropped or abused, and all of a sudden it just slips, kinda like the clutch is gone or something. I replaced it with a DeWalt. Hope that has a little longer life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for average jobs
I have owned this drill for 5 years and have never had a problem with it. It does lack power on tough screws, but for general work it's hard to beat. It is very light weight and easy to use. My wifes loves it too!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great drill with good power
This is a great little drill. I already own 18v and 14.4v Dewalt drills and the Makita is great for the little jobs like locksets and cabinet pulls where the 18v can be too heavy or bulky. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

You get two tools in one when you buy this kit. Milwaukee's Magnum hammer drill can be used as a regular drill for boring in wood or metal, or it can be switched over for use as a hammer drill, allowing percussion carbide-bit drilling in concrete and masonry. You can feel the quality of this tool when you hold it--its reinforced nylon resin casing, which is lighter and stronger than metal, offers better heat dissipation and chemical resistance. We found the convenient keyless chuck on this model to have an impressively tough grip, even in the toughest concrete drilling applications.

Of course, when a hammer drill is used in heavy-duty industrial situations, the brushes wear out quickly. Taking this into account, Milwaukee's Magnum drill conveniently comes with a removable brush cartridge system so you can change brushes in seconds (there are even two extra brushes stored inside). We also liked the Quik-Lok cord set, which makes it easy to switch cord lengths (if you have one of the optional cords). There's also a handy depth guide adjustment that makes it easy to repeat accurate holes. While the dual operation of this drill is a great feature, if you intend to use it primarily for wood and metal work, you may want to consider a drill designed for that purpose; the Magnum, because of its dual-action capability, is larger and heavier than standard drills. But if you're interested in a tool that can handle both applications, we think this is a great choice. --Tim Block ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I have used this drill on numerous occations and have yet to be discoraged with it's preformance. It is a small yet sturdy drill for: wood, brick, block, and metal. My employer supplies this drill to my coworkers also. I would buy this drill for at home use due to it's many applications.

2-0 out of 5 stars What was I thinking?
I am a DIYer out of the home that needed a hammerdrill for projects in my basement and brick exterior. I bought this as I thought Milwaukee was "THE" tool company. My friend was helping with some tapcon anchors in the basement and was using my very expensive hammerdrill. He criticized it's lack of power and laughed a bit. Came back a few minutes later with a Dewalt hammerdrill. Big difference - much lighter, faster and it doesn;t look so archaic. I returned the milwaukee and just borrow my friends drill now. I did some checking - the Dewalt is cheaper anyways.

2-0 out of 5 stars I got the lemon and warranty service difficult
My magnum was hardly used in the 6 months that I've owned it. Hi-Low switch only drives drill when on Hi. Keyless chuck requires a gorilla to tighten bits. During light drilling of softwood, something snapped inside and the motor froze. Obviously something is critically wrong, so maybe I've got the lemon. The local authorized dealer (referred to by corporate offices) claimed to be too busy with their rental service to repair the drill, and they wanted me to pay the shipping to have it serviced at another center which had no telephone or other contact. Corporate offices were business like and rude.

5-0 out of 5 stars First choice for general-purpose drilling.
We now have three of these in the company tool-box, and they all get used on a daily basis. An exceptional combination of power and features (keyless chuck that really works, variable speed, high and low speed ranges, reverse, drill only, hammer/drill, and a detachable cord for convenience) have made these the only corded-drills we now use. The only draw-back to be found is the rather inconvenient lock-on button, which is rather difficult to access at times. Being the only negative point, we all fell that this is a small issue, indeed! Highly recommended, and once used, highly apprecciated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tough
Bulletproof drill. Have drilled hundreds of holes in concrete walls for anchors etc, Tortured the thing drilling holes into a granite wall - Bits gave up but the drill didn't. Don't hesitate on this one. Keyless chuck is a big plus, very strong grip - sometimes hard to undo. Low-end torque is not as good as I'd like, but torque is not what I bought it for. The other big plus is the Milwaukee removable/interchangeable cords. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best penlight I've tried
The ability to use AAAA-diameter cells from a relatively thrifty and very common Duracell 9V battery is nice, as AAAA standard cells aren't widely stocked. The surprisingly bright little LED draws more than a third of a watt (90mA) from fresh cells, and it shows colors much more vividly than standard incandescent flashlights do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best $14 I ever spent!
First, I've found all LED lights that make outragous claims of average battery life of dozens to hundreds of hours is either misleading or totally wrong... no matter what brand or where you bought them from. They either go totally dark in much less than half the rated time, or have gone too dim to even read large print with the light pressed closely to the page. To even get close to half the rated life, skip the alkalines, you must use expensive lithium or the highest capacity NiMi rechargables available on the planet.

So they all lie about or misrepresent your actual battery life. I'm sure some of them, if you put the most expensive batteries in the world in them, run the light almost to their rated battery life, if you take them into a fully darkend room, & hold the light to your face, strain your eyes, you will find the LEDs are still glowing very faintly... but that's not useful light.

I haven't found AAAA rechargables or lithiums, but you won't need them.

This is the only LED light I ever found that doesn't give you bull on battery life. It uses a single LED & 3 AAAA alkaline batteries that can be obtained cheap from many sources. Slightly longer than an oridinary pen, I take it everywhere, & is always with me at work. As an engineer, I've used it several times daily for over 6 months with the original batteries. I thought it might be getting a little dimmer so recently put fresh batteries in it. Although it got brighter, not significantly, so I put the old batteries back in. This light just won't die. Lot's brighter than any keychain light, it's as useful as most big lights. It fell 14' from a ladder onto solid concrete, into puddles, snow, & got paint & glue on it. Using harsh chemicals & scraping to get all the paint & glue off, it still looks & works like brand new. I don't know what they used to paint that light with, but there's not a scatch on it anywhere... no dents yet either. Solid & durable. Your best light will be the one that works when you need it to, & is close at hand. Best $14 I ever spent!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good pen light
Streamlight Stylus is a very good pen light. It is surprisingly bright for a single-LED flashlight. And since it uses three AAAA sized batteries, the light won't go dead on you easily.

Stylus has a light switch at the end of the body. The light burns as long as you keep the switch depressed. If you need to have your both hands free, you can twitch the endcap, so you have a constant on light. The body of the flashlight is very well made and durable, and the light switch has a good feel to it. Along with the light, you get a removable sleeve. When the sleeve is on, the light beam is narrower and more focused. If you need a wider beam, just remove the sleeve.

My main gripe about the flashlight is that it is a bit too long. It will probably fit into your shirt pocket, but it is clearly longer than a typical pen. So, it is very uncomfortable to carry the light in your pants pocket, for example. If there were a Stylus that used only two batteries instead of three, I believe that would be a better penlight overall. And if you need a keychain -size flashlight, Stylus is naturally way too big for that application.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Little Light
This is really a terrific light. It uses LED technology whichtells you the following. The "bulb" is virtually unbreakable and appears to have an unbelievable work life (can you believe 100,000 hours). Run that on your pocket calculator see what that comes to in days and years.

Next, even though the LED burns with a pure white brilliance, it is cool to the touch. This is the light I let my 7 year old niece use. Because LEDs draw little power compared to the light they put out, they don't need large batteries. The battery size is AAAA. This allows for a very light weight tool.

If you need both hands free, you can hold this light in your mouth for a long time because of the light weight (no pun!) It also remains in your pocket forever without drawing attention to itself because of its size.

Also of great importance is that this is not just a toy(even though it is fun!) It is a real working tool. I am a physician and this is my little exam light. It works great at examining eyes and throats. You may find it useful in dozens of situations. Because of its size it can go everywhere- home, car, shirt or jacket pocket, purse or briefcase and so on. There are also different colored bulbs for specialty applications I won't go into here.

One of the complaints I have seen is regarding the AAAA batteries. First of all, the batteries last for a very long time because of the low power drain. You may never change the batteries. Secondly, the batteries are freely available at Walgreens which seem to be everywhere these days. They are in the specialty battery section with the hearing aid and photo batteries.I occasionally check and I have always found the AAAA's in stock.

The major limitation is that even though it puts out a lot of light for its size, it is a "pen light". If you need to light a whole room up you will need a bigger light.

Bottom line- this is a really great light. For the price, you can purchase several and leave them wherever you might need them.

LED technology is revolutionizing flashlights in the 21ST century and these lights are classical demonstrations of advanced technology. They do more things:put out more light, use less electrical power, weigh less, are less likely to break, and cost less. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great in small places
I've had this light for over 6 months. This little light has beena great asset in all of the places I've used it from working on a PC to crawling under a sink. For its size, this flashlight proovides quite a bit of light. The nicest thing is has over a flashlight, other than its easy to carry size, is that is doesn't leave part of the illuinated area dark like you would experience with a normal bulb since this uses an LED. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I Like It
Overall: This is a very good portable light. It practically turns night into day wherever you point it and for a good deal of the peripheral area around your targeted area, if that makes sense.

Pros: Really, really bright. There's no hype there. This thing is like two car headlamps strapped together and placed in your hand.

The sealed lead-acid batteries (there are two, one in the bottom "block" and one in the upper part behind the lamps themselves) are strong, reliable, and long-lasting.

Cons: It's somewhat heavy for one-handed operation, but it comes with an optional strap which you can throw over your shoulder to have to keep from supporting the entire weight with your hand. It may sound awkward as I describe it, but it works very well.

The fit-and-finish is only "average". It's made overseas like so many things these days, and some of the labels, ports/connectors feel less than optimal, but I consider this criticism to be a nit. The things I've mentioned are really only aesthetic and don't affect the light's performance.

And a caution: The lens gets very very hot after use, so you need to store it with that in mind until it cools down after several minutes.

Conclusion: Highly recommended. If you need powerful, portable light, this is it.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST LIGHT EVER
This is without a doubt, no question, the best flashlight in the world. This light should not even be considered a flashlight. It looks like a helicopter is shining at whatever you are pointing this thing at. It is that powerful. This will shine up anything you want, for up to one mile away. It is absolutely amazing. You will never be short of light again with this flashlight/helicopter spotlight. Buy it today.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mega Disappointment
This item was advertised as shipping within 1-2 days. In fact, 11 days passed before it was shipped. It took a total of 14 days to arrive from the time I placed my order. Amazon's poor customer service was matched by the mediocre quality of this item. It's bright, but poorly made and so heavy it is awkward to use. I advise avoiding Amazon.com and this item.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Spotlight on the Market
I've had this spotlight for almost two years and I've never have any problems. First of all I believe it's the brightest customer spotlight on the market. It comes with two bulbs 1.5 million candlepower each. I suggest just having one bulb on at a time because it still is much brighter than you'll probably need for most cases and it more than doubles battery time. Speaking of which is great. I've never done any tests but with average use I charge it about once a month. The area light on it is great. It's much much brighter than most flashlights and because it only uses a fraction of the power than the twin beams do you can easily get 20 to 30 hours on a single charge. Also one thing I don't know if was mentioned in the product preview is that it works as a 12-volt car plug in. Which means anything you can plug into your car (i.e. cell phone, CD player) can be plugged in to the front DC charger. So you can run your cell phone or something off this thing. You can get an adapter and change this into a normal household plug in. Overall, this is a perfect for pretty much anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars peace of mind
I bought this item originally for my boyfriend who lives in a very secluded area and very often has power outages.

We have used it on an unexpected night sailing trip and numerous other occasions. All around it is really handy and very powerful.

I bought one for myself and will never need another flashlight. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Porter-Cable gets into the deck and drywall businesses in a big way with this 6.8 amp screwdriver. Backed by 100-percent ball-bearing construction, this screwdriver boasts an aggressive "quiet" clutch that sets screws accurately and quickly in wood or metal studs. The reversible, variable-speed motor offers 0 to 2,500 rpm, and the nosepiece snaps on and off and features "set and forget" depth memory, letting you quickly dial in your countersink and not worry about it again. The driver feels right in the hand, too, with good balance, a soft grip, and a nicely integrated groove for your thumb and forefinger, making it very comfortable to operate with your hand directly behind the bit. A handy adjustable belt clip mounts to either side, which accommodates righties and lefties, and lets you quickly hook the tool to your belt when it's not in use, a more comfortable arrangement compared to the top-mounted clips you'll find on other brands. The screwdriver is built to last, too, with a strong, lightweight magnesium bearing plate, steel gears, a tough cast-aluminum gear housing, and a dust-sealed switch. --Jon Groebner ... Read more

Anything you set out to accomplish with this baby is a zip. The 2500 rpms are more than enough to drive screws up to 3 inches with no prob into rafters, decking, and drywall. The depth setter is accurate, and allows for proper penetration into drywall. Grip provides comfort, and the belt clip seems durable, and hasn't broke yet, (as it has on my Dewalt). I always reach for this one... get it?

Amazon.com Product Description

Here's a benchtop tool that packs the power of the big boys. With 6 inches from bit center to column, you can drill with ease into the center of a foot-wide board with a 2-3/8-inch stroke and a chuck jaw capacity of 1/2 inch. The cast-iron table tilts left and right to 45 degrees with a positive stop at 0, and offers five drill speeds depending on your material and bit size. You don't even have to know what speed is the right one--there's a chart inside the pulley cover that dictates belt speed according to hole size and material. Changing speeds is as simple as adjusting the belt on the pulley. Have some repetitive drilling to do? The adjustable-position locking depth stop will take the trouble out of the job. Rack-and-pinion table depth adjustment makes raising and lowering the table no work at all, and here's a nice bonus you won't find standard on other models--a built-in tool tray. When you're done drilling, just pop out the removable safety switch to prevent unauthorized use. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

  • Table tilts up to 45 degrees for accurate angle drilling

4-0 out of 5 stars Model 11-990 is still availabe.
Just to note... the two-year old Delta 12" model 11-990 which the troublesome DP300 replaced is still available at a discount from some industrial tool suppliers. I purchased one about two months ago. It is the exact same drill press with all of the same specifications, including being made in China.
So far, it has been a very good tool and I have no complaints, especially considering the reduced price. I wrote a review on it last month.
It's possible that since technically it is an older model, it may have been made to higher standards, because as everyone in the woodworking industry now knows, Delta's continued cost cutting shift to its overseas production facilities has produced increasingly inferior products over the last few years. This is especially true for their low priced light home duty "ShopMaster" series and medium priced commercial product line.
Considering the fact that Delta owns these overseas facilities, if they exercised better material selection, manufacturing techniques and quality control, this wouldn't be such an issue. Unfortunately for everyone, overall product quality as well as Delta's reputation are now almost completely in the tank.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad motor
I purchased the drill press to use with my middle school students. Less than 2 weeks after it arrived, my students called me over cause it smelled funny. I noticed hot melted plastic dripping from the motor and immediately unplugged it and we had to leave the area because of the fumes. Now I get the wonderful task of tracking down the warranty, and then the communciation with delta/amazon, and then the return shipping or lawsuit, and then the... You get the picture! You may want to check other brands...if not, good luck!

2-0 out of 5 stars Depth stop unworkable
As an old woodworker, disappointed that the depth stop mechanism does not work, even when following the written instructions. The spindle travel is very short out of the box, and ours just (without any adjustment) became shorter. The depth control ring and the guage are not intuitive, the guage reading what appears to be backwards. Not up to the old standads of Rockwell/Delta days. Do not buy this model.

2-0 out of 5 stars Under powered
This drill press is adequate as a bench top unit. Initially I was fairly happy with it, other than some vibration from the spindle. But the more I use it the more I am dissapointed with it. The minimum spindle speed is 620 which is too fast for my hole cutter ( recommended 400 RPM). Delta should change the pulley ratios to allow an alternative slower speed rather than so many at the higher end. I used my hole cutter anyways and ended up barely being able to cut a 3" diameter hole the drill kept stopping. It appears as if the motor just stops under load. I noticed a similar problem using a small diameter forstner bit. I hope that my motor needs to be replaced, and it isn't just that that's the best that 1/3 hp can do.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing Delta quality
Received my DP300 on Friday afternoon. Out of box the tool rest was broken. After assembly, the depth stop was not settable - the screw stop inside the mechanism was not attached. More importantly, the quill raised and lowered with great force required. It would not return under its own spring return tension. I suspect there is a woodruff key in the slot and it is broken. Of course customer service is closed for the weekend and I cannot get redress from Delta until Monday.

I have several other US made Delta tools with which I am satisfied. There was no damage to the shipping container, so I believe the DP300 left the factory in China in this condition. Delta needs to revisit their Quality control in offshore locations or risk ruining their previously fine name. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bosch Does It Again
I was beginning to wish I had a second cordless drill. Having to change bits frequently is all the more work. With the Bosch Clic system, you just pop the bit in the holder, pull the head back, it clicks and holds your bit. To change, it is intuitive because as you pull the chuck forward it releases the bit as you pull the bit out, all in one motion. Just like putting the bit in, in one sweep. In goes the bit, and the chuck moves back to the click.
Bosch makes several clic change bit styles that work with the system, including self feeding spade bits.
The interesting thing is that the Ryobi bits fit it perfectly as well. I wound up stocking up at the local home center on other bits.
I was building a large outfeed table for the table saw out of red oak. Having to drill countersinks for the screws, and following with a phillips bit to set the screws, all the while clamping and unclamping the joint, made the clic change system the right tool. Saved all kinds of time, not to mention enlongating the battery life of the drill, not having to run it to change the bit fifty times.
The good thing is that the Bosch clic system works without a snag. No hang ups or binding, just smooth consistent changes. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Bit Holder Made
The Bosch Clic-Change bit holder is the result of great design thought. It's small, bits change with a natural hand movement, and the heavy duty shaft doesn't slip. I only wish Bosch made the bit holder available without the hex-shank bits and extras. I'd love to buy several for all my drills and as gifts for friends. Clic-Change makes installing hinges a breeze.

5-0 out of 5 stars What would I do without them?
I purchased these just in time for an entire kitchen's worth of Ikea Cabinets to arrive. I used these EVERY DAY for a month while assembling the cabinets. They are really good and sharp and the quick change feature was invaluable as I was switching them constantly while drilling holes and then attaching 25 handles. I guess it's silly to say you LOVE a drill bit set so lets just say I'm EXTREMELY fond of them instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars accessorize
While the quick, one-handed change is nice, it's still a bit long to handle with a drill that has its weight in the back.
Also, I have yet to find any accessories to complement the set-up, such as a countersink. I hope Bosch keeps putting in their R&D time to give us what we need (and want).

5-0 out of 5 stars Best on the Market
I have used an Insty Bit for the last seven years and I wish Bosch had come out with this much sooner. The one hand operation is great and the assortment of bits has saved me from rumaging through my collection of bits for square drive and phillips screws. The drill bits come in handy as well. I would definitely recommend this to any wood worker. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Difficult to operate
The switch on this drill is difficult to operate. Myself and two other guys had problems with it. The drill is either locked on or off. If the bit jambs you can not quickly stop the drill or for any matter it is difficult to stop. This is a problem and will probably burn up the motor when it is jambed and attempts to turn. I guess if Hitachi makes a better switch or even a simple trigger it would be a great drill. I am returning mine tomorrow.

4-0 out of 5 stars Smooth Operator
I wish my car ran as good as this drill. This is my first Hitachi tool and its the smoothest running drill I own. And I have lots of different brands. Plenty of power, enough to drive 3" screws into pressure treated lumber with ease (while being in a tight space). The controls took a little getting used to. It has an on/off switch with a speed dial at the bottom. But it's very easy to shut off, just tap the switch. It's got the old fashioned keyed chuck, but after going over it, you can get into tighter spaces with it (especially with the side handle off). Keyless chucks are bigger so you can grab hold of them. Whether your drilling or driving, this is the perfect tool for tight spaces. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the money.
I have had this book light for about 4 years. I use it almost every night for 1 - 3 hours. I have replaced the bulbs about 4 times (replacements were bought at Wal-Mart for about $2.00). The only issue I had with this product was with the AC adapter. I went to turn on the light one night and it wouldn't light. I checked the plug and found that the plastic had melted a little where the plug and the power cord meet. This was most likely my fault for leaving the light plugged in 24 hours a day, so I don't fault the product. But since then I have been using the battery pack, and I get about 2 months of operation from the 4 C batteries. I have taken this light on vacation, I have dropped the light and the battery pack, I have even stepped on it. The light has never broken. I would recommend this to any one looking for a book light.

5-0 out of 5 stars In Love with an itty bitty Book Light
If you love to read in bed, then you know how difficult it is to read when you not facing away from the lamp/light. I'm a serious reader and I want to see the page when I'm in bed. I had purchased other book lights with batteries attached to the actual light unit and found that you could really only use them if you were sitting up in bed. I like to be snuggled down in the covers reading to my heart's content.

This has been the best solution I've found. So far after a few months, I've been very impressed with this light. You can also read in bed without disturbing your bed partner. When you turn off your bedside lamp, you can still see what you are reading.

The light clips to any back of a hard or soft cover book. It is super lightweight. The cord is also really long and you have the option of an outlet or battery pack which uses four "C" cell batteries. Of all the book lights out there, this one seems to be the most versatile. You can use it in bed, in a car, on a plane or even in a tent.

This item also features a "thermal fuse" that will automatically turn off the lamp if it reaches between 120 -130 degrees. This is a useful feature if you fall asleep while reading and if blankets or sheets cover the light and it overheats, it will turn off automatically.

This light was a winner of three international design awards and is the only book light that is ETL approved. It has a heavy gauge wire and a failsafe rotary switch to give you years of use. Of course they recommend that you turn off the light before going to sleep, but it made me feel a bit safer since I've been known to fall asleep when reading at night.

Replacement bulbs are available in 2-bulb packs and if you can't find them, you can use their mail order option. There is also an option of ordering a compact pouch to keep the light safe while traveling.

What I really like about this light is how the light really can be adjusted to any angle. Need light focuses on a certain part of the page? No problem. Move the arm back and forth or rotate the light left or right to position the brightest light possible on the page you are reading.

Nifty Packaging, you can store your light on the shelf with your favorite books!

Seriously in love with this book light!

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep on looking
I got this book light as a gift and really wish I would have returned it and found something else. It works, but only in a time span of 45 minutes then it goes out and will not come back on. I am totally disapointed with this product!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars others
instead of buying this one, opt for a Rayovac booklight...they've got one with a pillow bottom, and another that had a string for around your neck...much better than it's itty bitty alternative

1-0 out of 5 stars Needs reengineering
I hate to admit it, but over the years I have bought 3 of these lights simply because there aren't a lot of good alternative choices out there. Each Itty Bitty light has been a problem, from failing switches to thin wiring breaking to problems with the A/C adapter plug to the hood falling off the light, not to mention the extremely short life and high expense of the bulbs. If you can find an alternative I would buy it rather than this. BEWARE! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This Hammer - Drill is a real "ANIMAL"
I just built a home and as a professional electrician let me tell you this drill is the best.
I used to have a Craftsman and that thing broke to pieces on its
first time drilling 1/2'' spade holes through 2 x 4 , this drill the Milwaukee broke the bit first then i used it to put in some
concrete fasteners, i just had to practice because it kept breaking off the fasteners.
This is really the best drill, and also you better hold on
when using it or i can swear it'll break your wrist also
If you want power and a reliable drill get this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars great quality, features, and price
This is one of the best tools that I own. It is well-built, not too heavy, very versatile, powerful, and quiet. The hammer drill makes drilling in concrete and block very easy. I also used it with a 4 1/4 inch hole saw and it had no problem. The only thing I would change is to add a keyless chuck. I think this drill augmented with a quality lightweight cordless drill would satisfy most peoples' drilling needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars lb. for lb. $ for $ the best drill in it's class
This drill is one serious piece of equipment in terms of power
to weight ratio. Do not while drilling, under any circumstance,
engage the trigger lock or it will beat you like a rented mule.
The only real drawback for this and all Milwakee drills is the
reversing switch. It is right next to the trigger and engaged
with a light touch. I don't know how many times I've
inadvertantly done this to my great annoyance. They should
stiffen it up or put it somewhere else. This has not detered

me from buying Milwaukee drills as they beat all competors
hands down as does their whole line of equipment. I'd give this
drill 10 stars if I could, now do I get a free case for my
drill after this great review?

5-0 out of 5 stars A Monster In Disguise
This drill appears to be somewhat of a normal sized drill. Don't let that fool you. This thing is a monster in disguise. Strong, powerful, and will not quit. I normally use a 14.4 cordless drill. When the drill catches in some material, I am able to release the trigger, with no harm done. On this Milwaulkee corded model running on 110 AC I had an experience I will not forget. I was drilling into some concrete, and must have angled the bit. It caught and although I was holding it very securely it spun so hard that it broke off the depth rod. More importantly, I got a feeling of, I just got bumped by a shark. If I did not let go at the right time, it seriously would have broken my wrist. So the other reviewer who mentioned that is right on the money. I was in a local Milwaukee factory store to replace the broken handle and depth rod, and he suggested I run it at the higher speed which has less torque.
The 1/2" chuck is nice for larger bits, and the metal chuck with a KEY guarantees that you are going to get a no slip bit.
Adjustability is nice with two speeds, and hammer and non hammer options easily swithcable.
If you are drilling concrete for a living all day long, then of course the SDS drills, with bit capacity of greater than a foot, are the way to go. If you are a contractor, who occassionally drills through concrete, and want a drill that will handle most any job then this is the one to buy. This thing will bury a 1/2" x 12" long bit without slowing down.
I don't use the drill that often, but it is a blessing when I need it. Concrete with rocks in them will stop a normal drill. The tip of the bit sits on a rock and spins, the hammering percussion crushes the stone.
Milwaukee makes industrial level equipment, and this drill although a standard size bears that kind of performance. Highly recommended. I will be buying more Milwaukee equipment in the future. I thought at first that it didn't look like the best equipment, but don't let the looks fool you. Go Red-Get a Milwaukee.

4-0 out of 5 stars solid for multiple uses
i chose this drill originally for boring in concrete, which it does great. since then i have used it with 1" auger bits into wood and had to hold on for dear life! this tool has power! I have also used it to stir dry wall compound. although i dont recommend this! it spins to high rpm's for mixing and you definately run the risk of burning out a good drill. mine is still kicking and drillin', though! deducted a star for no box. ...
