1-0 out of 5 stars Poor performer underwater/ NOT shock resistant
I bought one of these lights to work underwater and the seals failed filling the battery compartment with water. Streamlight replaced it, but when dropped from 4 feet to a carpeted floor it failed..replacement LED is 37.95 with shipping and replacement Streamlight 3C LED can be had for $39.00 so...I am tossing the Streamlight 3C LED in trash can and taking the loss...Sorry, but this item is not reliable, durable, or dependable..such a surprise for a company with such a good rep

5-0 out of 5 stars Once you've had LED you'll never go back.
This thing puts out an amazing amount of light and the batteries last forever. I keep one in the trunk of every car I own (3).

3-0 out of 5 stars Streamlight 33202 LED 3C NOT Waterproof
Everything said about this flashlight is spot on except for the fact that after using underwater in less than 10 feet, the battery compartment leaked and the batteries turned to rusted mush. So much for the claims of being waterproof!!! Otherwise a really nice flashlight but not the rugged competitor it claims to be...
So far have not heard from the manufacturer about servicing the warranty...will let you know

3-0 out of 5 stars It grows on you
Very nice product for what it does, but it takes some getting used to. First the good. Appears very durable and has a nice feel to it when carrying. Excellent for inside a house, such as during a power outage. The white light is very diffuse and wide angle illuminating a large area or an entire room.

Now for the not-so-good. The on switch in at the end of unit - inconvenient. The LED light is very different from the traditional flashlights and may not be what you expect. The light is not focused. Used outdoors, the diffuse light will illuminate I found relatively good up to only about 30 feet. The beam cannot be focused from a diffuse pattern to a sharp compact beam. My mag light is definitely better for outdoors.

Overall, nice product but it serves a niche. Definitely not the only flashlight I would want - or need - to own.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Drop This Flashlight
Contrary to what a previous reviewer said about being able to throw it against a wall without breaking it, this flashlight did not survive a 2 foot fall from my young childs hand onto the street this Halloween evening.

It is broken and no longer working. I had it a week. Update 11/14/03-after several emails back and forth, the company did send a free replacement LED bulb unit. The flashlight works again. Only thing now is that they sent blue LED lights instead of the white ones I had originall purchased. I've raised the ranking one more star for their response, albeit flawed.

Be careful it is fragile despite it's looks. Don't be fooled by claims by other reviewers who have not put it through a simple test by a child dropping it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get, you'll need it sooner or later
Purchased it with Milwaukee's cordless screwdriver just in case. Well, I needed it for a task within a week after receiving it. I would not have been able to do the task with the cordless otherwise. Get it. You'll be glad you did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it now, because you'll need it later
If you have an electric screwdriver, you gotta have one of these. Compact, rugged, smooth. Has a indexed handle that can mount in a variety of positions to offset the torque. Sooner or later you're going to have a use for this on a Sunday night, when all the stores are closed, so get one now, you wont regret it! Identical as one produced by AEG, now owned by Milwalkee.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Tool For Tight Spots
We use this tool all the time installing stereos in cars. This tool is extremely versitile in getting into hard to reach or impossible situations. There are cheaper imitations on the market, but they do not hold up like this model, especially when used with a cordless screwdriver or drill. Add a set of hex shank drill bits to add to the versitility of this tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU NEED IT, RIGHT?
You just bought the best screwdriver possible. The Milwaukee. That is why you are looking at this offset. Well, the screwdriver's handle offsets. A little. But, that just gives you something to hold against when the torque starts. But now to get into the tight spots. Think about it, we've all been there..... This is built like a Milwaukee too, after being thought out like a Milwaukee. It fits in the carry case for the Milwaukee. You Need One, Right? Right.

1-0 out of 5 stars TOO MUCH
I CAN PURCHASE THIS SET AT canadian tire for a lower price and this does not included the exchange.

3-0 out of 5 stars Make sure you really need this
Be aware that many of the items in this set are duplicates of each other. Also, there are only two nutdrivers. The screw guide is good, and it's smaller and easier to use than the one sold separately. Certainly, the quality seems excellent. But really think carefully about whether the two tips included with the screwdriver itself aren't sufficient, because this set just doesn't add that much.

2-0 out of 5 stars Panasoic gone bad
This electric screwdriver is worth about 9.99 and is overpriced.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Screwdriver Ever
If you are in the market for an electric screwdriver for home or work you need to put one of these in your hands. Use it once and you'll see what all the rave is about. You CAN NOT be disappointed with this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Screwdriver ~ If it dosn't break
This is one of the best cordless screw drivers on the market. Especially for repairing or assembling electronic devices. (computers)
BUT.....
You better hope it never breaks. Panasonic repair center will not offer service to repair it, even though it is their product. They want you to send it to a authorized service center, but they don't want to be bothered with something like a cordless screwdriver. its more expensive than some cordless drills. You would think Panasonic would give it more consideration when it comes to service, especially because it is usually only bought by professionals that buy high end tools such as this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good tool, could be great
I use this tool for electronics assembly, mostly computers. What sets this model apart from 98% of the rest is the electronic clutch. Unlike the mechanical clutches on other tools, its action does not vary based on how hard you push on the screw. That means you can achieve more reliable torque settings and can work on more delicate assemblies. Further more it doesn't make that awful ratcheting sound when the clutch engages. The Makita 6705DW also has electronic clutch, but its form is too large and its handle does not articulate into a pistol grip.

Sadly, this is the best lightweight inline cordless screwdriver I could find. To be perfect this tool needs five things. First, a carry case. None is included or available. Second, a modern battery. This tool uses nickel cadmium batteries, which are large (relatively) and suffer from memory effects. Any high performance cordless device should have nickel metal hydride or lithium ion batteries, which could make this tool smaller, lighter, and give improved battery life. Third, I want a screwdriver that has continuously variable speed like that is common on many cordless drills (but not screwdrivers). This tool is just on or off, in high or low gear. Fourth, and minor, it comes with only 2 philips head bits. Strangely, no slotted bits (or any other bits at all) are included. Fifth, it should have a compartment that would accommodate 1 or 2 bits on board the tool like many cordless drills do.

This tool is the best available but it's not the tool I wanted to buy and was willing to pay for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best cordless tool
I have owned 6 different "stick drills" over the past 10 years. This panasonic is far above all the others. The adjustable clutch allows for precision work and the rapid rechargeable battery really only takes 15 minutes. I wish they made a model with the power switch on the opposite side for us lefties! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a hammer to replace my old Bluegrass framing hammer
I've used a 20 oz. Belknap Bluegrass framing hammer for 25+ years but have been unable to find an octagon replacement handle like the original. I've tried a few different brands of hammers to replace it but have been disappointed.

I recently purchased a Douglas 20 oz. framing hammer and am amazed. Great balance and feel. I won't miss my Bluegrass 20 oz. any more, though I still use my 16 oz. for finish work, siding, etc.

I can't recommend the Douglas framing hammer enough... Great hammer, worth every penny.

Kim T. Hayfield

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Hammer
I missed out on the original Hart Woody, but when Douglas (Coonran) won back his patent rights and started producing an updated model, I picked up the 18 oz finish and 20 oz finish and framing hammers.

After a couple of decks plus some interior framing, I can say that the hammer works as advertised. Traction face is about as effective as a waffle pattern and leaves fewer tracks, handle stays tight.

The only beef I have is that the company making the handles could do just a bit more work to lose the routed edges. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Lightweight Hammer
I recently re-ordered this hammer (my first one rode home with someone I don't know). I liked that one so much, I had to get another. I am a west coast Union carpenter, and Ti hammers are seen more and more often on job sites these days. I had to go back to an old 25 oz. hammer after my last Stilletto was stolen, and WOW, what a difference! I chose this hammer for many reasons, but here are a few you might consider: 1) it's light weight will save your body from wear and tear, 2) the smooth face, combined with the weight allow this hammer to be used for finish work, as well as framing (and it won't mash your fingers), 3) that magnetic nail holder comes in very handy and 4)I mean, come on, Titanium...it's just so cool. The only drawback to this hammer is it's tendency to ring like a tuning fork. You might find yourself reaching for earplugs if you don't already wear them. Other than that, it's simply a shame to think that you'll be using this beautiful tool in a manner that will (hopefully after many, many years) leave it worn and scarred. But when that time comes, at least you'll still be able to move your arm without pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best tool on my tool belt
i have used this hammer for over a year now . it is the best hammer i have ever used . after a long day of driving 16d sinkers my hands don't ack all night long . i have the poly/fiberglass handle on my big nail driver.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Drywall gun!
I've been hanging drywall for 25 years and this is the best gun out there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great choice
I looked at several competitive products and chose this one. This is a very good tool. It is easy to handle as it is light, yet powerful, and the trigger is large. These features give you good control esp with larger screws. I have driven up to 3 inch screws with ease. The nosecone takes some practice to adjust, but once you figure it out, it performs very nicely. My only complaint is that the instructions provided are kind of sparse and you end up figuring out how to use the tool by yourself. Not a big issue, however, as the tool is very simple.

Overall, very satisfied!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Drywallers best gun REBORN!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best in Class
This screwgun is awesome. It is by far the most powerful and comfortable screwgun out there. I love the nosecone. It keeps the depth right and doesn't fall off. Far superior than the Makita or the heavy and clunky Milwaukee screwguns. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Method of Stubborn Window Glazing Putty Removal
If you've every struggled with replacing the putty on older windows and find that some of the old putty falls out, some pops out easily, and some is stuck on like concrete, this tool will remove that stubborn putty without the usual picking at it that often results in a broken glass or damaged wood. A shaft with cutter blades that fits in an electric drill "mills" off the putty as you work it back and forth over the putty area as the plastic guide follows the wooden pane divider. With a bit of practice, one can develop a feel for the tool, and achieve very good results. This tool like any other with an open cutter surface demands attention to its operation, but is not overly hazardous to operate. One hand must be used to hold the electic drill, the other hand to grasp the guide support handle of the tool and adequate physical strenght to hold and guide it along the glazing compound. I used it on 6 full windows, each with 24 panes, approx 12 in. per side and the tool was adequately sharp at the end of the job. I would recommend this tool as a definate time saver and frustration eliminator.

2-0 out of 5 stars Save Money- - - - Pass This One Up!!!
This company has a good idea, but the product suffers from poor materials, other than the carbide cutter. Ater a few serious uses, the cutter mangled the inner diameter of the plastic guide. Leaving an almost useless cutter on a comically long steel shaft. The guide and handle should have been made of Brass or similar, and all one piece. The guide has a tendency to slip, and spin with the shaft, so the bosses that make up the guide wear almost smooth and lose their grip anyway, since this piece is made of (not durable)plastic. As the tool is a long shaft, it is easy to get out of control and gouge the surrounding metal, or wood. I found a little care and a Carbide 1/4" router bit used in the drill chuck more effective and less complicated. Faster too!

3-0 out of 5 stars Chips Through Dried Old Putty Like Butter
It chips through that putty like butter right out of the package. There are a few things to know though.
First you need a powerful drill. It recommends a minimum of 2500 RPM. The fast the easier and cleaner the job will be for you. Second this is an acquired taste. I found that after perfecting my chisel and mallet technique I was not far behind the Putty Chaser. With the Putty Chasser you have to be careful. It has a guide but it know not the difference of wood from putty. If you have a huge house or you do this for job then give it a try. Also it's only $ so you're not going to break the bank giving it a try.

1-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor
Poor design and a waste of money. Maybe it works better on not-so-hard putty. A top-bearing flush trim router bit and a straight board tacked to the sash works like a charm. Buy That!

1-0 out of 5 stars The Tool That Eats Windows!
When I saw this product in your catalog, it seemed like the perfect tool for my reglazing project but when it came time to use it, I was horrified to watch it chew up most of the woooden frame around two different windowpanes. I promptly put it up and finished the job by hand with putty knives and a thin-bladed knife. Do not waste your time or money on this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful and durable. A real workhorse.
I've owned one of these Makita cordless drills for approximately six years. One hundred projects (and perhaps a thousand holes) later, it works as well as the day I bought it. I've used it to drill through wood, plastic, metal, stucco, and concrete. I've used it as a driver, a sander, a polisher, and a stirrer. I've even used it to run a small water pump. It has always performed without a hitch. The Makita delivers an impressive amount of torque. I have an assortment of drills (cordless, corded, and pneumatic), and the Makita is generally the one that performs the best, both in terms of torque and in terms of convenience.

The Makita battery packs recharge quickly (maybe 20 minutes), and last longer than any other rechargeable tool I own (such as Black & Decker VersaPack tools). The manufacturer also thought ahead, considering what would happen if you acquired an assortment of Makita tools with different types of battery packs. The charger that comes with this drill can accommodate a wide variety of Makita batteries, not just the type used by this product; it automatically senses the type of battery and charges it at the correct voltage. Now that's a good design. The variable speed trigger is also nice, as is the torque control on the chuck. The keyless chuck gets a very solid grip, unlike other keyless chucks that I've tried; the Makita has never once slipped on me.

Of course, every tool has its limits. I finally bumped up against the limit of my Makita when I tried drilling 3-inch diameter holes through 3/4-inch wood (using a "hole saw"). I actually succeeded in drilling several such holes with the Makita, but only by proceeding a little at a time. The drill would over-heat after several minutes of drilling, and shut itself off. But, this is actually an endorsement in disguise. First, the Makita could spin this rather large hole saw with enough torque to cut holes, which is quite a challenge for any drill. Second, it was smart enough to shut off rather than burn up. So, I cannot complain. It performed admirably even in this rather extreme test.

I cannot find a single thing to complain about. If my Makita were to burn out today, I'd say it had fulfilled its duty several times over, and I'd go right out and buy another one. Now that's a strong endorsement. It's a great product that's designed to perform and to last. Well done Makita!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality drill
Makita makes a number of fine cordless drills, including this one, I also own a #6213 D drill that's worked flawlessly for four years of regular use. Makitas use plenty of large ball bearings and well-designed motors, and have a reputation for reliability among contractors, along with Hitachi and DeWalt. Like any mass producer, there are occasionally bad drills out there, but you will find far fewer of them than with the cheaper brands.

Now Rigid is the new glamor player in town, due mainly to its temporary warranty deal (though the tools are made in China - yuck!), but since no one has used them for any length of time (including contractors), you'll be a guinea pig to see if they are 'contractor quality', or not. Personally I'm not thrilled with the poor experience of myself and others trying previous Home Depot lines (Ryobi, etc) of cordless tools, and I'm not willing to give up the Makita's excellent battery life and overall durability.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice drill, but Makita has problems...IMPROVEMENT NEEDED!
I own both this drill and the earlier similar and slightly larger model, the 6213. I have three single speed Makita cordless drills and have owned them for 25 years. I will no longer buy another. The clutches failed on both the 6227 and the 6213 within weeks. The drill motors just keep spinning, and the chuck does not move. The three single speed drills continue to function flawlessly. Thank goodness I can use my 12 volt batteries in one of them and in my impact tool.

I have just purchased replacement drills from the new Ridgid line at Home Depot. These have a three year warranty and a Lifetime Warranty, if purchased before December 31, 2003.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get a grip on this mighty mite
...The Makita 6227 12v cordless drill is a good combination of quality, size, power and ergonomics. Add to this a reputation for taking punishment and you have the right balance of features in a light weight mighty mite.

As a woodworker I find the need for higher power 14+ volt power monsters generally unnecessary in the shop. If I were a contractor or building a house this might be a different story. At 12 volts and 200 in/lbs of torque, this 3+ lb drill is perfect for everyday shop work of drilling, countersinking and driving all but the largest screws (although I have driven 2-1/2" screws into MDF with no pilot holes in a pinch. By the way don't use cordless drills for continued heavy work regardless of voltage, that's why they still make corded drills, which are also cheaper to replace). Most 12 volt drills weigh more than 4 pounds, this one is 3.3 lbs (Reference: Makita 2000-2001 general catalog, page 25) and never tires the wrist or hand. Believe me, if your using a cordless drill any significant amount of time, the difference is noticeable!. It's so light compared to my full size 12v and 14v (also Makitas) it's really a pleasure to handle.

The balance is impressive. I find that larger drills are usually top heavy. This little guy with the smaller (and shorter) head seems perfectly balanced and suited for the 12v, 1.3amp battery. I can twist and turn it in my hands and it feels like a natural extension of it. This feature really shines when I find myself drilling under unorthodox conditions (like securing molding or shelves from under and inside a desktop in which you have to crawl inside the carcass, not fun!). I can whip this drill around easily while the bigger drills get clunked around. With it's shorter head, I can get into spaces I wouldn't be able to with the other larger and longer head drills.

What about battery life you may ask? I find this thing almost impossible to drain in one day of continued work and if I do, hey I have a second one awaiting it's turn. It usually takes me a couple days work (providing I'm not driving 2-3" screws, but I have larger drills for this anyway) to need to change cells. I also have a Makita 6213D 12v drill (a full size) with 2.2 amp Nickel Metal Hydride batteries and they fit perfectly for even longer run times!

One last great feature is the clutch. There are 16 postions and if your like me and find yourself driving smaller screws for furniture and fine projects, you will greatly appreciate the much lower clutch settings. Most other 12v drills still generate a significant amount of torque at the #1 and #2 settings. This drill set at the lowest settings will let you drive #6-3/8" screws into 1/2" plywood (predrilled with pilot holes) without stripping! Just amazing! Try that with just about any other drill regardless of manufacturer. Most of those monsters will spin a screw of this size right out of it's hole before you can spit out some choice words of frustration. If you need that "feather touch" for fine projects this little guy is perfect.

Okay it's not really "perfect". As I have said in other tool reviews, I don't believe a perfect tool exists and this one does have in my opinion it's faults (or maybe quirks as you may disagree). The gear speeds are a little slower than I would prefer. The low setting is 0-350 RPM and high 0-1100 RPM. I prefer driving screws at 450 RPM or higher (and with it's sensitive clutch, a higher speed would be a good match). A top speed of 1300+ RPM would have been nice. A rubber grip would also have been nice, but to be fair, many drills do not offer this feature. The last issue could be isolated to my drill. My drill in high gear at full RPM makes a subtle but noticeable whining/scraping sound inside the transmission. After taking the drill apart I relubricated it with silicone oil which helped but it was still noticeable. Maybe this is normal?...

Pros:

**Light weight with terrific balance
**Sensitive clutch at lower settings for finer work
**Incredible battery life
**Electric brake

Cons:

**Slower gear speeds
**Lower power (but hey it's a compact)
**"What's that sound from the transmission?!"

Summary: Give a hand to a compact drill with the right balance and features.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Torque
Just put up a 10 x 8 foot wood storage shed last weekend and drove at least 1000 square head screws. The battery life is decent and it has great torque down to the last few turns of the drill head when the battery dies. The only issue is that 14.4V systems are going away in favor of 19.2V systems. So if you are looking at getting other Porter Cable products and want to have the same battery pack, this might be a consideration in your purchase. Still a great buy, great product. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars B&D CrossHair
This tool is easy to use and adequate for the weekend DIY'er. It only illuminates two laser lines (up and to the right) which can be a limiting feature. Lines, however, were level at short distances (less than 10'). I have no desire to have to use the marking target for greater distances. Lock layout feature is good. Quality of beam is adequate to poor - you have to decide whether to save the line or split it when marking - line fades near end of projection and in places completely dissappears on wall (smooth, previously painted drywall). Marking for pin-up to wall is good b/c it is in line w/both beams. For myself - this gadget is going back where it came from while I look for something else. For the money - you get what you pay for - avoid the stud finder combo.

5-0 out of 5 stars On The Straight and Narrow!!
I bought this to use around the house for various things and I am pretty impressed so far. Before I even attemted to use it, I double checked it's plumb and level accuracy with a plumb bob and a Stabila 72" level ($120)...It was dead on!!! Overall it is a great tool to have in the toolbox if your an avid DIYrrr like me. Some of the things I have used it for: Squaring up stud walls, Hanging cabinets, Hanging pictures and Chair rail, Making layout marks for floor tiles and even squaring up the foundation walls for a shed I built!! It makes building things a fun and joyfull experience, I can't wait to use it again!! (Just make sure that you check it for accuracy before you initally use it!!) ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Think of amps as the battery's gas tank: the greater the amps, the longer the tool's run time. With the new MForce line of cordless tools, Makita has bumped their ultracompact NiMH batteries up to 2.6 amps, delivering a markedly longer run time per charge. The tool is compact and well balanced, too, thanks in part to the newly designed two-piece motor that allows for a smaller 14.4-volt unit capable of an impressive 350 inch-pounds of torque--enough power for any task for which we'd use a cordless. The unit's all-metal gear transmission, featuring a planetary gear system, also takes up a minimum of space, and does a good job delivering smooth power. The MForce line also features a new Shift Lock drive system that locks out the clutch, shifting from driver to drill mode in a way that will never slip. Another plus is the addition of a ratcheting chuck that you twist to tighten, a satisfying mechanism that really locks a bit in place. Best of all, the drill feels great in the hand: the balance is right and the handle has a rubberized grip, a new feature to Makita drills and one an all-day user will surely appreciate. This kit includes two 14.4-volt, 2.6 amp NiMH batteries, a handy adjustable flashlight, a multivoltage charger, and a carrying case. --Jon Groebner ... Read more
