I got the unit for my basement office and the exhaust hose didn't reach.I was able to fashion an extension with a dryer exhaust hose. Well, after hooking everything up and venting the hose thru my basement window, it came to life.It takes about 5 to 10 min. to start cooling. Also, you'll need to fill an internal tank with water to get max cooling.Note, the instructions state that you'll need to fill up the water tank every 7-8 hours for max effect. Now, after running for 15 minutes the alert light flashes and the Delonghi goes into Fan only mode. The manual reports there is an obstruction in the exhaust hose.No way.Checked it 5 times and all is clear. Well, I might have a bad unit that can be replaced, but I'm going to return it.For the price, I expected better. The controls are cheap push buttons and not the electronic ones you find all most all a/c now-a-days.Also, when the compressor kicks in, its really loud. For the price of this unit, I dont think it's worth it Again, this is my experience.I spoke to my neighbor who got one for his daughter and she's very happy with it. ... Amazon.com Review Operation of the dehumidifier is markedly simple--just push the rocker switch to "on" and walk away. The unit automatically turns off when the tank is full and illuminates a "full" signal light. Helpful structural details include an inset carrying handle, protective rubber feet, and an upward dry-air outlet. WindChaser also includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard Features Reviews (35)

I've done a lot of research on filters and the such since my son tested positive for exposure to lead. Both of the reviews of this filter (I have this or a similar Honeywell which is great but I am not sure which model.) Anyway, both of these reviews mention vacuuming the filter(s) to extend the useful life of the item. IF you are using a HEPA filtered vacuum, and only if you are using a HEPA filtered vacuum, should you think of this. But the cost of these filters is not so great that this makes much sense. If you are not using a HEPA filtered vaccum, than all you are doing is sucking the stuff you don't want to breath out of the filter (which is what you bought the machine to do in the first place) and blowing it back into the air (which is what you boght the machine to prevent.) Basically, the few bucks you save is not worth the risk.
Don't go by the light on the your Honeywell unit to tell when it's time to change the filter because the manufacturer wants you to change it as frequently as possible. When you find that the flow of air has slowed down and dust in the vicinity of the unit tends to collect more, then it's time to change the air filter. Also, vacuuming the outside of the filter may prolong the life. I vacuumed my HEPA and found that there was an increase in air flow afterwards and less dust collecting around the unit.

Yes, a timer that would go off every morning to start heating up your designated area before you were up and about would be nice, but it is not that much of a problem to reset it each night and in the morning. It takes less than 10 seconds to do this. This unit will warm things up pretty quick once it gets going, so this is a minor inconvenience at best (especially in terms of what is on the other side of that brick wall down here tonight). The Bionaire Galileo Digital Triple Ceramic Heater is one of those items that once you discover it you wonder why you waited so long to get one. This is the first winter in the Zenith City where I have not been wearing my turtlenecks and sweaters all the time because of what this little unit can do.
All the features are very cool, and work mostly as described. I'd like to share what I learned after I got it. I haven't had any problems syncing the remote like the other reviewer. I plugged in the heater and put the batteries in the remote, and followed the instructions to press one button, and off it went. It heats well, bringing up the temperature of my bathroom very quickly. I set the remote on top of my home thermostat for a day to test the thermometer, and it was off by one degree. Perfectly acceptable for me. The remote shows the room temperature at all times, even when the heater is off. It has a backlight, which turns on for about ten seconds whenever a key is pressed. After a minute of inactivity, the remote locks itself, to prevent accidental keypresses. To unlock it you hold the mode button for two seconds. Something not mentioned in the description is the heat settings: Low is 1200W and High is 1500W. Note that you can turn the heater on without the remote, but only to constant Low or High, not to an Auto (thermostat) setting. A minor disappointment was the timer function. From the description I was hoping to set a timer so that the heater would turn on every morning at a certain time. Instead, you can only program it to turn on in a certain number of hours, one time. So, if I know the next morning will be cold, I set it the night before, but I have to do it each night. This is probably fine for most people. BTW, when it turns itself on in timer mode, it runs for two hours on High, with a setting of 72F. Apparently you can't change this. It also has a timer to turn itself off after a number of hours, like the Sleep Timer setting on a clock radio. One really minor surprise was the depth of the unit -- it's not as flat as it looks. From the pictures, you can't tell that the fan intake sticks out a few inches on the back. This was not at all a problem for me, just a surprise. The whole unit is still very compact, maybe the size of a soccer ball. It's also very lightweight; the outer body is all plastic. Mine's gray instead of the white in the picture. The weird orange thing in the middle vent in the picture must be some sort of sensor; mine has it too. A pleasant surprise is the cool-down feature in Auto (thermostat) mode. When the room temperature has reached your setting, the heater of course turns off. But it seems to shut off the heating elements and just run the fan for maybe a minute, to flush out any residual heat. When I had more primitive heaters I'd do this manually, to cool down the heater and to get all the heat I'd paid for. This one does it automatically. The only problem I've had is that sometimes on High it shuts itself down. I believe this is because I have it in a confined space and close to two walls, and it thinks it's overheating. I have not had this problem on Low, and I'm sure I wouldn't have it at all if I moved it into a more open space. In case you're worried about wireless problems, I have 900MHz and 2.4GHz cordless phones, an X10 video sender, an 802.11g wireless network, RF ceiling fan remotes, an RF Dish remote, and other RF products, and I haven't had any issues with the heater and remote. Oh yeah, and it's really quiet, probably because the fan isn't very powerful. If it's around a corner or there's something else going on, I don't notice that it's running. Since the fan is weak, it doesn't blow heat at you very far, but it still moves air and heat fine. It probably projects heat a foot or two straight out.

I bought this for my apartment. It has 8500 BTU. I planned to use it in the living room (13x15 or 208 square feet) during the day, and then the bedroom at night (a bit smaller). I opened the package immediately the night I brought it home, but once I turned the power on for the first time, I was surprised that high power, turned to be little more than a feeble blowing of air. This weak fan, does not allow any of the cold air to actually push out of the unit and cool the room!!! Even if you stood 2 feet from it, it barely blew on you!!! Who would engineer such a thing? The real test was the next day, when temperatures outside soared to 93 degrees. My unit could not manage to make the room cooler than 88 degrees for the entire day! I decided to give it another day (maybe it need to be broken in, I thought), but again it was did the same thing. So disappointing that such a sleek looking and digital panneled portable a/c could disappoint like this. I read the entire manual, hooked it up properly and even called the company, Kenwood. Kenwood didn't really care. They told me it is discontinued and to just return it!! With all the terribly ugly looking portable units out there, I had really wanted this to be my new a/c, but I will have to look elsewhere, and this time for something having perhaps 12000 BTU and a fan that blows like a tornado! Please, someone, design a beautiful looking portable a/c for far under $600 that works! What a pain. I hate the thought of lugging this 80 plus pound machine back to the store.
I have not been happy with Kenwood's customer service. I had contacted Kenwood several times via email in order to order parts that were missing (because I bought it as an open box item) and to receive a manual but had no success. My husband ended up making the window accessory that was missing and I ended up downloading the manual from amazon.com. Thanks guys! The portable air conditioner was definitely worth my money. ...
