Best I've reviewed, evaluated
I've reviewed and tried several home humidifiers and find the model 7133 a strong contender for 'best of breed'.Since I use it in the bedroom, it had to be very quiet; which the 7133 is.It holds about 2 gallons of water which on a mid-setting both for the humidistat and the output control keeps the room (about 15' x 15') at 40% humidity (quite comfortable).On filling of 2 gallons (slightly less since the filter takes up a bit of room) runs for 24 hours at this setting.Since I only use in the evenings when I'm home, it lasts for 2 days.It also seemed to me that if you want a humidifier with a larger capacity, that it gets pretty heavy lugging that much water.2 gallons seemed like a good compromise volume.

The filter has to be changed every 3-4 months,depending upon frequency and length of use.The unit comes with 1 filter. The silver stick that also comes with it, controls bacterial growth for up to a year. Materials and constructions are of excellent quality.

I checked out several reviews of the product; looked at an older Consumer Reports on humidifiers (it didn't rate this manufacturer), but it's report on other brands didn't really impress me, since so many don't seem to come with a humidistat (an important requirement in my view, since it helps keep the humidity level steady).I purchased it for $134.95 at a local retailer, and on-line prices seem comparable.So far, it appears to be fair traded. I highly recommend this product.

Cool to look at but poor functionality!
Nice sized unit, great design and quiet--but it soaks the floor. Steam did not seam to really humidify the air in a 650 sq. foot bedroom and it actually made us cough worse. Smells very chemicall and is basically one of the $20 style humidifiers with a fancy name and different outer housing. Buy a warm mist instead.

Nice machine, just not worth the $$$$$$
..I ended up returning this unit because the reservoir tank is woefully inadequate. It seemed like I was refilling the thing
3-4 times/day. I think the problem has to do with the demineralizer cartridge, which is big, taking up a lot of surface area inside the tank. They should really put the cartridge somewhere else or make a much bigger tank. I will say that the unit worked well and is very well constructed. I also liked the fact that you don't need those annoying filters that my other unit uses(Vornado) However, I'll stick with the Vornado with it's filters and it's two huge tanks. Working for eight months nonstop. Like a reliable horse.
My works fine. I keep wondering when there are going to be problems because I am using it continuously over a large square footage. But no problems at all. I do have to empty it about once a day or day and a half- but that is a good thing isn't it? It works.

I see no problems with the setting wheel when I use it but usually I have it cranked up to near constant operation.

I did try to turn it on initially without removing the instruction book from under the tank and it did leak. I then pulled the instruction book OUT and it has performed flawlessly. I think people who bought it maybe didn't first take out the tank and get the booklet? Also you have to take the tape OFF the float. I don't know what would happen if you didn't. Probably would effect the auto shutoff.

I am surprised people have problems with these - they seem very well made. I am a little surprised at the Styrofoam INSIDE the tank compartment to stabilize and center the tank. But then it is lightweight and dense and if it works I guess why complain? I wouldn't want a little kid to carve on it or pull it out though... Not malicious kid proof IMO...

I use it everyday and I like it. I got mine at Sears.

Great Job
I bought it yeterday. We do lots of Indian cooking with lots of smoke. This guy has significantly reduced the smoke and odor.
Every one at home can feel the difference.
I al planning to buy more filters from Hamilton.

Excellent for the kitchen
This product is excellent in the kitchen. We cook a lot of indian food and this product is a 'match made in heaven' for this type of odor-intensive cooking. nowadays, we even fry fish and this takes care of all the odor. Havent had to replace filter until now. It would have been great if Hamilton bundled a free filter along with the machine.

I bought one to counter the stench of the litter box used by 2 cats.The purifier was a miracle worker for the first week operating on "whisper mode", so I bought a second one for my office, since my dog comes to work every day and adds his smell to the place.After the first week, the one by the cat litter box stopped being effective.I opened it and it was pretty choked with dust, so i cleaned it out as best as I could and put it back.It doesn't seem to work like it did the first few days any more.I could try replacing the filter, but the cost would add up quick if I have to replace them once a week!Yikes!I'd have to say it worked so great to start with that I'll stick it out a while longer, but overall it hasn't lived up to its full billing.In terms of "whisper mode", the sound level of the fan is less than an window A/C, but more than a computer fan...

This product works great
ok - here goes.We moved apartments,and our new apt has one of those exhausts which are under a microwave mounted over the stove.
So the odours when cooking on the front parts of the range enter the room!Yuck! (And this apt complex is a fancy one :( )
Plus - we cook a lot of Indian ,Italian food,and bake stuff.
So - its an odor fest - yuck!!I was not sure,reading some of these reviews,but I bought one ($20 - what did I have to lose)
and I have a elec. socket right next to the cooking range.

Wow! Odors clear up really well - the odors have been cut by 75% (and that's a lot when making sauces and curries)
then,after cooking (we set it to quick clean during cooking),and clean up is done,we keep it all night / all day,on whisper clean ,and the next day-all odors gone!
I loved it ,and bought 2 more for some more rooms of my apt
I guess the trick is to keep it close to the source of odors
it's compact,works wonderfully,and easy to clean/replace filters,and cheap!

Seems small, but it's really effective
We have two.One of them runs in the bathroom all the time, and works well to eliminate the musty odor.The other is in the kitchen and while it's running all the time, it's a bit more negligable because there's a lot of air circulation.Best to keep it in a smaller area, or very close to the souce of the odor.I still find that an open bowl of arm & hammer works the best...go figure.But you should see the dust they collect...convinces me that they're doing something good.I recomend. ... Advertised one thing and sent me something somewhat less...
This company's website said this product went up to 2000 watts. When I received my 2 heaters, I discovered that they only go up to 1500 watts. I felt this was very dishonest. The heaters work okay, but I can't help thinking that they would heat my home more quickly if they truly were 2000 watt heaters. This deal just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Keeps me warm in the cold North East
Bought this item recently and really like it. It does the job well and heated up my 12 by 13 room very effecintly on the low setting. The unit has three settings 600 (low), 900(medium) and 1500(high) watts. I was pleased to see it heat the room on the low setting in a half hour. It is quiet and that's important to me as I don't want to hear whirring or fan noise in the background like other heaters. The plug and power cord was even't the slightest bit warm after 3 hours. I think for the price it's built well. The adjustable thermostat does work but there is no way you can tell what the room temperature is by looking at the unit. My only gripe with this product is the 3 foot long power cord. That's way too small and needs to be 7 feet minimum to aid in ideal placement of the unit in a room.

Keeps me warm in the cold North East
Bought this heater towards the end of September'2002. So I have not owned it for a long time. I bought a high end ceramic heater before it and returned it promptly as the power cord was getting warm even after a 20-25 minute use. I bought this heater after that. I live in Northeast Canada where it is really chilly and cold. Tried out the heater and think this one fits the bill.

Pros
------
It has three power settings, 600 watts, 900 watts and 1500 watts. I placed it in a room which is about 13 square feet and had it going on the low setting of 600 watts. The room was nice and warm in 30 minutes. Remember this is the low setting, so that's pretty good performance.
It is quiet and will not disturb you when you're sleeping or resting.
It has foot mounted controls that are easy to use to control the wattage settings.
The power cord or plug was not warm to the touch after operating it for a good two hours.
It has a thermostat that does work. Once you get the temperature to a comfortable level, you have to turn the thermostat dial anti-clockwise till the lights go off on the heater. It will then maintain the room temperature automatically by coming on when needed.
It has a safety feature of shutting off if it's moved from side to side but I am not going to test that out for obvious reasons. It's good to know that they have the feature though. Most of the housing is cool to the touch when operating but this is a baseboard heater and the grill is going to get hot.

Cons
------
The big gripe about the product is the power cord. It's only three feet long and that is just not enough for ideal placement in a room. This is a baseboard heater, therefore placement is important as you want to avoid high traffic areas in the house. I think at a minimum it should have a seven foot cord.
It is quite long, about four feet, so it is not ideal for really small spaces.

simply to install, life is a bit short
It's pretty easy to install or replace the filter. I'd also recommend that the floor pane gets cleaned at refills to slow the dirts buildup. There were times I flipped a used one by 180 degree to have it start fresh again. After all these tricks, lifetime of one filter is about a month. It appeared to me that the filter also served to expand the wet area, and it lost that function after its mesh material degraded in time. At how much they cost a piece, I'd hope it'll last longer.

Short filter life
I had read a lot of reviews for the humidifier before purchasing. I like to humidifier but the filter is expensive and has a short life. I end up using at least one a month. It gets moldy easily even though I change the water every day and follow the cleaning instructions.

Life too short
This filter doesn't last as long as I expected, and the humidifier is very very noisy...

Grows mold easily, but is a good humidifier
Just a warning to those of you who are like me and aren't the most meticulous keepers of humidifiers: the large filter grows mold very easily. A previous reviewer noted that you should keep the filter wet, but in my experience that just grows mold. I've had to toss 2 filters for that reason. At this point, I've switched to Ultrasonic humidifiers because I'm afraid to use the previously moldy cool mist one (esp with the dusty fan).

Needs replacement often
We bought our humidifier two months ago and have already gone through two filters. Despite the fact that we change the water in our humidifier daily, the filter quickly start smelling very moldy. It also seem to disintegrate rather quickly.
