5-0 out of 5 stars Great...Just Great!
Bought this drill a couple of months ago and like the AMEX card I would not leave home without it! I thought the world of my previous cordless drill (Milwaukee 12v) but the battery packs wear out after a few seasons of use and they are getting harder to find (as well as getting expensive). I've got one good pack left for the Milwaukee and am babying it, but I use the Bosch for nearly every drilling job I do now. I give it a solid recommendation to anyone that wants a workhorse 3/8" drill. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a stud finder that works!
I have tried 3 devices like this over the years. All of them were a pain to "calibrate" and did not work well.I bought this out of frustration a week ago when trying to find a stud with a Stanley unit which was very unrepeatable. This Straitline worked easily and very accurately first try. Also the marker is great!Highly recommend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely useless
I tried using this product on my drywall to find studs so I can hang a mirror, but either this machine is defective or completely unreliable. It will find a stud in a place, but after recalibrating, it won't find the stud! Sometimes, it thinks the entire wall has one big stud behind it and keeps beeping continously. It's completely unreliable and extremely frustrating. I don't recommend buying this device, at least not from an online store (returning it is a hassle).

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Stud Finder Yet!
I have used many before, but this one is the best. Simple and effective, the lcd screen is great and it's greatfor the money. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Bosch's Compact Tough cordless drills are designed to provide professional power in a compact profile and perform tough jobs in tight spaces and close quarters without compromising durability. Employing a flexible ABS nylon blend, this tool can stand up to the roughest job site conditions. This 9.6-volt model has a two-speed gearbox that delivers up to 250 inch-pounds of torque in high-torque mode and up to 1,000 rpm in high-speed mode. There's also a large two-sided fan for cool operation and motor durability and a 16-position clutch for matching the torque to your task. We like the ratcheting chuck that allows for quick, reliable one-handed bit changes and the soft rubber grip Bosch includes on all its cordless tools. If lightweight maneuverability is the goal, this 9.6-volt model may be your best bet. It has the smallest profile of any of the Compact Tough drills and weighs only 3.3 pounds. This model includes the drill, two 1.4 amp hr batteries, a one-hour charger, a bit holder, and a carrying case. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars nice balance, compact, and great power for a 9.6v cordless
i research (almost) everything i buy and i compared this drill/driver with makita, dewalt, and black & decker. i felt that the bosch 32609 was the clear winner. it feels great in your hands and has outstanding balance. it is light (less than 3-1/2 lbs) and the smallest of the compact line of drill drivers from bosch. that's pretty impressive considering this has the highest torque rating (300 in./lbs) of any 9.6v cordelss drill/driver out there today. the 16-position clutch ensures that you can choose the correct torque level to your job while the keyless chuck makes replacing bits or drivers quick and easy. this package includes two batteries and a 1hour charger. for my use, i think this battery/charger setup will be more than sufficient.

all in all, i am very please with this tool that i'm actually looking for projects around the house!

i hope this helps you with your buying decision. peace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Size , weight and power ats my favorite!
I have several cordless drills of different voltages and brands, Panasonic, Porter cable, and Bosch. This great drill is light and yet powerful. It is great for hardware installation, cabinet assembly and general work. It is much handier than 1n 18 volt monster that still doesn't have the torque or speed of a corded drill. This is the one to get. The new technology suggestes the batteries should last much longer and this one comes with a 3 year warranty! Wow! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Working alone? There is NO question: You need these!
I recently finished siding my 2-story colonial with 5.25" (4" exposure) Hardie Boards. It took me about 3 springs/summers of weekends since I did 99% of it completely alone.

I did not start using these until last year (year 3).At that point I only had 25% of the house done.Between these gauges, pump jacks, and a pneumatic siding nailer, I got nearly the other 75% done in one season. But if I could have only kept one tool that was an absolute necessity for working alone, it would have been these.

They are easy to set up and insert, and do a great job holding a course on the wall, especially when working alone. When butt-joining, I would hang a piece on these, then remove the one nearer to the joint and use the other as just a support or "shelf."

Here is my advice as a homeowner who installed Hardieboards by himself:
1.Get these gauges!
2.Expect that over many squares, the bottom edges might get a little worn, perhaps requiring a gentle tap with a hand or hammer to get them to sit on the top course quickly.
3.If you are using the 5.25 (4" exposure) boards, you should STILL use some type of measurement gauge. The 5.25" does in fact dip slightly if you put the gauges near each end of a 12' board.I don't know if this happens with the bigger exposure boards but I would guess that it is not as much. Also, you may have to make your own measurement gauge for the 4" exposure. The Malco one starts at 5"

5-0 out of 5 stars Mandatory Tool for Siding Work
Anyone installing fiber cement siding needs these gauges. Quantum leap in siding installation process, dramatically cuts time required for job, no measuring of overlap, no time needed to check siding with level. Gauges will assure identical overlap and level siding. Makes siding job look almost perfect. Very simple to use. Essential if you work alone!

5-0 out of 5 stars working mans tool
this tool works real well, makes siding faster and better looking, because of the even spacing

2-0 out of 5 stars too many steps
This tool is a good idea but I found it was too many steps. Its not that it didn't work but I tried another gauge that was similar and it seemed to be more user friendly with less steps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny
This item should be recommended in James Hardie's installation instructions as are the Makita and Hitachi products.Don't bother trying to make other jigs to set the height of the planks, this is accurate and easily operated with one hand (gauge placement, panel release, and gauge removal).Follow the recommended minimum lateral spacing between the gauge and the closest fasterner or damage can occur to the bottom of the panels when released from the gauge. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Impressive, solid little drill.
Weight and price lured me to this drill. I work in a cabinet shop and found the 18 volt yellow and 14.4 volt red drills the other blokes had a bit bulky and heavy for all-day use (plus, I have access to their drills and our electric ones, as well). For screw and glue assembly this drill is a gem--it delivers just enough torque to sink everything home and won't break the heads off coarse drywall screws. Pre-drilling / Countersinking operations take a little longer than with more powerful models (and since time is money, I often keep a second, more powerful drill handy for the pre-drilling. I've drilled pocket holes with this Hitachi from time to time, but prefer to use an electric drill (or a heavy cordless drill on a jobsite) with the Kreg jig. I've also drilled dowel holes in 1 3/4 Mahogany with this drill--not without some effort, though. The light weight and compact size of this drill have come in handy for all of us--several corners in a recent kitchen remodel could only be reached with this drill, not with the larger cordless units.

My purchase of this drill prompted one shop member to purchase an even lighter 9.6 volt yellow brand. Initial impressions are that the two are about equal. One disadvantage to the yellow 9.6 volt is that it cannot be stood upright on its base. Since each falls in the same price range, I'd recommend the Hitachi for this one reason.

Battery expenditure is fairly frequent, and perhaps a negative for some reviewers / readers. But keeping the spare in the charger has never left me without juice. Just remember to take the charger to the job site!

I can't comment yet on the longevity of the batteries (still going strong after a year of daily use). When they do finally die, I'll be able to get two for 70 bucks by purchasing another drill! (not bad, since some brands charge 70 bucks for one battery alone). Also worth noting is that Hitachi makes a 12 volt hammer drill that uses the same batteries.

I really don't use the flashlight, but it is nifty in that the head angles and it is free-standing. Rather, I use the flashlight's space in the case for bits and so on The case, by the way, is not as rugged as other brands (especially the sliding hinges). My assumption is that Hitachi has eliminated the frills of a great case to keep the price low.

For the price and performance, this little Hitachi is a great buy. It probably all a home do-it-yourselfer needs, and again, it works for 90% of the jobs in the shop. It has taken some abuse and suffered some job site falls, but has not been damaged. Yes, eventually, I will be buying a second, heavier duty drill--probably the red 14.4 workhorse (now that it has been beefed up to well over 400 lbs. of torque), but a second drill will simply complement, not retire this drill. I highly recommend this little Hitachi. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value : Does what it's designed to 100%
I pointed out a few things that were not right with and could be improved upon when I reviewed the Black&Decker BDL110S BullsEye Laser level Stud Sensor and it was refresing to find this little wonder that seems to have gotten everything right compared to the overpriced Black&Decker tool.

For starters, it's not a combo, there is no stud finder in it, so it's not bulky and it can fire the laser at any angle that you choose in addition to the obvious horizontal and vertical angles. It has bubble vials for both level & plumb. The laser can be adjusted for distance either short and bright or long with a slight loss in brightness, if you are close to the corner, it will even get the laser straight line onto the adjacent wall.

This little gadget rocks.
