5-0 out of 5 stars One half the price of the Little Giant
As a contractor, I use a lot of ladders.

COSCO was the first to clone the Little Giant Ladder about five years ago. Apparently, Little Giant's patent was still in force for the hinges. I own the COSCO 17FT Worlds Greatest Ladder and used it for a couple of years, but I needed something longer.

In January 2002, I purchased the Type 1 22 FT Little Giant from Amazon.com. The only difference was the hinges and a few annoying braces in the climbing area of the two narrow extension pieces of the COSCO. The COSCO is made in Korea. The Little Giant is made in USA. Both functions flawlessly to this day.

I found the Little Giant cloned at Home Depot as the Gorrila Brand ladder at Home Depot. $99 for the 13 ft model and $199 for a 21 ft model. The ladder is essentially a China made copy of the Type 1A Little Giant.

My last purchase is the MT-13 Werner. It appears to be another clone of the Little Giant Type 1A, also made in China, probably by the same company that makes the Gorilla. I know this, because both brands include a bonus set of brackets for making the scaffolding with an almost identical blow molded polyethylene case. The brackets are identical and marked Patent Pending.

I would recommend the MT-13 and the MT-17 in the Werner Brand, but I still prefer the Little Giant in the 22 ft model. It is a lighter by five pounds than the 22ft Werner but cost about $130 more.

Since all of the original Little Giant patents have expired, the hinges on the Gorilla and Werner models are identical to the Little Giant.

Of all of the models, the MT-17 would be ideal for most home owners. It will go to the second floor window of a two story house. The 22ft model will go to the roof of a two story house, but only for one with a slab foundation, not one with a basement or a crawl space.

The 17 FT model is a good balance between weight size and function. The best deal would be the Werner MT-17. The quality of materials and assembly of all the models appear nearly equal.

One reviewer noted that these ladders were hard to extend. The best method is still the method of extending the ladder using the procedure described in the Little Giant Instructional Video. Since the methods are copyrighted by Little Giant, the clone manufacturers cannot use them with their own instructions sheets, videos or manuals. Accordingly, I cannot include the Little Giant Procedure in this review.

4-0 out of 5 stars Heavy but Versatile
I first saw the Little Giant version of this ladder on a late night infomercial. It looked so interesting that I began researching it. I discovered the Werner MT-22 on Amazon.com. It was much less expensive than the LG, and Werner has a reputation for building solid ladders. The first day I got this ladder home, I used it to clean the gutters of our one-story home - it was great! I used it as the A-frame fully extended. It's rated for a 300 lb. load and I felt very secure on it. For the first time, I didn't sit on the roof to clean gutters.

It is fairly heavy (about 50 lbs.), but I didn't have much trouble moving it around. With the legs closed and retracted, it's only 5-1/2 feet tall x 24 inches wide x 9 inches deep. Setting it up took a little practice, but it's now a snap.

I emailed Werner about a ladder stabilizer and work platform. A rep replied very quickly and said that those accessories would be available in September 2004. The stabilizer will not be the quick click variety.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ladder
I would actually give the Werner MT-22 ladder a rating of 4.5 stars, if it were possible to do so, due to the weight of the thing. Other than that, this is a great ladder with virtually no flaws. Does everything it's advertised to do and more. I am still finding new uses for this thing. I have given away all of my other ladders (used to have three of them), and now use this one for everything except the "step-stool" tasks. Bottom line is that I would buy it again, which is the highest endorsement I can give.

3-0 out of 5 stars Versatile, but LIMITED extension capability!
Bought this for the flexibility and ease of transport. It fit without any trouble in the back of the vehicle and was very easy to handle with 1 person. Being able to use it as a stair ladder or with the included braces to use it as scaffolding support was very attractive. The weakness is in the extension ability. It is very difficult to fully extend the ladder to 19 feet. Basically your only option is to half-extend it on the ground, and once you have it standing, push it the rest of the way up. This becomes very difficult as this ladder does not have the typical pulley system found on regular extension ladders. It also cannot accept the Werner Quick-Click Stabilizer. The stabilizer would normall make window and gutter jobs a piece of cake. Also, with the angled legs, I am not sure of this ladders ability to accept a leveler. This all coupled with the flexing of 4 seperate pieces, prompted me to return it for a Werner 24 foot fiberglass extension that I am completely happy with. (...)

4-0 out of 5 stars It is $50 cheaper at Lowes
I searched all over the Internet for the MT-22 and every website returned me to Amazon.com. I caved in and ordered it from Amazon. Mine is still in transit via UPS. I was at Lowes today and found it for $199. It is to late for me to take advantage of the Amazon lowest price guarantee because I had already ordered it. Check your local Lowes and challenge the price BEFORE you place an order. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall.....impressive
Pluses:

1. Quiet operation - it sounds like a small vacuum cleaner

2. High quality parts - nothing cheap/flimsy here

3. Great quality of finish - consistent quality with paint and
laquers.

Minuses

1. VERY stiff hose - it induces fatigue after a short while which
becomes a bit of a distraction. I plan on changing mine soon

2. Expensive - I got what I paid for so it's not truly a
complaint

Overall I would give this product a 4.5 rating if I could. I'm very satisfied with this product

5-0 out of 5 stars A great product and Excellent service
Whatever happened to my first review of this product? I can not find it anywhere and I wanted to spread the message about Fuji very much!

I bought a Fuji Q4 about 3 weeks ago and after having waited for long because of a delay in manufacturing due to the release of the new XT Non Bleeder type gun that comes standard with all new Fuji Q3 and Q4 systems.

I opted for the Q4 because for a relatively small difference in price you simply get the most powerful turbine in the market. It is a 4 stage turbine made right here in America. Fuji manages to put this monster in a very steardy black metal case and the system is claimed to be 50% quieter than the competition. Comparing it to a Turbinare unit I was thinking to buy I totally agree with Fuji's claims.

The unit came in a steardy box but to my dismay the plastic fitting that connects the hose to the turbine was broken. In addition to this, the 6 foot Flex hose I had ordered to come with my unit did not show up either.

A simple call to Fuji and a couple of days later I received a box with the Flex hose, a new plastic fitting and a quick coupling compliments of the company. I was also informed that
I would be receiving a new metal fitting as soon as they are available.

I highly recommend any new buyer to get this Flex hose as it really makes spraying a pleasure w/o the burden of the big rubber hose that comes standard with the unit. By the way, my unit also came with the small plastic cups I bought as an additional option and a pack of spares like cup seals and additional strainers.

I used my Fuji to spray 26 restaurant chairs for a friend who is openign up a new restaurant and the unit performed much better than I had anticipated. That time I used the plastic cups only because I had to spray between chair legs and I needed the smaller size of the spray sytem. The finish was as impecable as I ever had using a spray system and with an ease of conntrol I never felt using my compressor powered NON HVLP sprayer. It is such a different experience to have your paint go where you itnend it and STAY there instrad of the mess that a high pressure sustem creates. After spraying the 26 chairs I pretyt much walked away from the job with no paint stuck on me or my clothing.

The next day I had to spray some booths for the same friend and I tried to use the metal cup that comes with the system. Unfortunately, I could not make the gun achieve an good seal and since it is pressurized the paint was oozing out from it. I went back to the plastic cups and finished the job w/o a problem.

Having contacted Fuji again I was told they will be sending me a newer make of a cup and hopefully this problem will also be solved. Please note that since the XT gun and cup assembly is new for Fuji and I guess some problems had to be anticipated. The point here is that the manufacurer is simply AMAZING in responding to comments and lightning fast in taking care of any problems you may have. You get to talk to Paul, the owner himself (not some clerk that could not give a darn about anything) and this guy even responds messages on weekends!

I give the Fuji Q4 a round 5 star for performance even with the few mishaps I had with it. It is super quiet, super powerful, super performing and it is backed up by what I feel is the best customer service I have ever encountered in my 15 years of buying wood working equipment from various big name manufacturers like Delta, Powermatic, Bosch etc. These guys could learn something about customer service from Fuji.

I give Fuji a 4 star for quality control but again, the outstanding service they offer prety much decides it for me: Fuji is an absolute winner! DO NOT buy another HVLP spray system until you try a Fuji first. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Look no further.......
The Fuji Q4 Pro is QUALITY, top to bottom, A to Z. Unbelievably quiet, VIBRATION FREE, (becoming a rarity in electric motors because apparently no one cares about bearing clearances or endplay) and EASILY powerful enough to spray any finish you want. (the one exception being polyester, i.e. "grand piano" coatings which need a high pressure, (and high overspray) cup gun.)
Fuji industrial is a no-nonsense company. If you call for support, parts, etc., the president and CEO of the company answers the phone himself. No waiting on hold, elevator music and the like. He seeks absolute customer satisfaction, no middlemen and no confusion.
American manufacters should take note of the lack of corporate wigs, board of chairmen and such with their multi-million dollar salaries for doing basically nothing for their company. What suffers naturally is the end product resulting in yet ANOTHER inferior quality, poorly designed domestic product.

And, despite the name "Fuji", the company is based in Ontario and uses over 90% North American content.

At least here, you are paying for PRODUCT, not some 7.5 million a year PR figure while the engineers don't get paid enough to put out a continually improving product.

You will get more than your money's worth with the Fuji. The gun itself is worth more than many complete systems. And as stated, the Q4 is "THE MOST POWERFUL AND QUIETEST SYSTEM ON THE MARKET."

So, if, you want the most from your dollar, as do I, you won't be disappointed here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great sprayer, I am very pleased
I have had this unit about 10 months now and I am very happy with it. My goal, in general, was to get a sprayer with the following features/functionality:

-spray fine finishes such as lacquer and water borne finishes
-also spray thin stains as well as occasional latex and oil-based paints
-variable air pressure for more control
-spend less than $1,000

This unit has satisfied those goals very well. The variable air control is really a must, in my opinion, otherwise I cannot adequately control the atomization. This air control works very well on this unit. It does not vary the motor speed, but varies the flow through the hose with a convenient control located at the gun handle - you can vary the flow as you work and fine tune it without having to run back to the compressor unit to make adjustments. I just turn the unit on and then make all the adjustments at the gun.

This unit sprays everything have tried very well: thinned lacquer, straight stains and dyes, latex paint (with Flotrol), and slightly thinned oil base paint. The finishes are extremely smooth.

Once I have the air and fluid controls set for a given project, the amount of overspray is really remarkably small. Although it is possible to create a lot of overspray, that usually means the air control is set to high.

The unit is very easy to clean - usually I just run solvent through the gun after every coat. Then thoroughly clean the needle and nozzle after the project.

A bonus for me is the sound level of the unit - it is really very low - it is like a mid range "whoosh" . Definitely not a loud unit at all. I find that once I have everything adjusted and start spraying, I do not even pay attention to the sound of the unit at all. I understand that some other brands have very irritating noise levels. Not so here.

I also appreciate the manufacturer's after sale support. Very helpful. I also purchased (from Fuji direct) the 6 foot whip hose and the set of small plastic cups for small jobs. The whip hose is very light and I find it very helpful in maneuvering in my small spray area.

I have been happy with the needle/nozzle combination which came with the unit, although my guess for the majority of my lacquer work, the #3 nozzle would work fine also. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Paid for itself the first job
This paint remover does the job; takes the paint off down to the wood and it never gums up with paint. I used it to strip paint from a fifty year old house with many layers of paint. It took me 4 days to strip the whole house. I estimate it would have taken twice as long to scrape the house by hand, and I would not have done nearly as good a job. I dulled four of the carbide blades to strip the whole house. The tool is light enough to operate with one hand. However, there are some tricks to using this tool:

- You have to wear goggles, (not just safety glasses) earplugs, a dust mask, gloves, and I'd recommend coveralls. This tool throws a lot of dust and small chips. I did not use a vacuum because I felt the hose would slow me down too much, but a vacuum should make the job much cleaner.

- Watch out for nails. You have to set the nails before you strip the paint. Just give the nails a wack before stripping. If you do snag a nail, it will either shave off the top or rip it out of the board. It's something you don't want to do too often.

The tool is well made except for the little doors covering the rabbet blades; I busted one off the first day. It has a nice long and flexible cord. Pet peeve: the switch turns off too easily.

It's not perfect, it's just better than any other tool for stripping paint. And, it'll pay for itself on the first job.

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional Painters Need This Tool
I just spent the last two days using this paint stripper and I gotta tell you this is an amazing tool. It will shave (no pun intended) hours off the time it takes to strip paint from a house. I was worried about the price, but it has paid for itself already. I am ripping paint off of cedar siding in 1/4 of the time it usually takes. The depth-of-cut adjustment lets me adapt to different paint millage, and it is really easy to use. If you have read other reviews, you will know that the little plastic doors that protect the 90, 180 and 270 degree cutters are really flimsy and WILL pop off, but it is still the best paint stripping tool I have come across. Make sure that you set any nail heads that may be in your way, because this machine will rip and warp any nail haead it comes in contact with. You will need ear protection, and the 3M full face mask is a must when working in warm climates. Try this tool. It will save you so much time and so much hassel. If you don't like it, send it back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast is the right word
I bought this tool about a year ago, and has you've read in the other reviews it's all true. I took down some 6" redwood siding, 4" fir and pine boards to the bare wood in no time. A word of caution on softer woods wider than 3", take your time and get use to the machine. It will gouge on the edge at times, depending... how your reach is to the work. You either even it up with a pass from the oppisite side, sand with a 6" inch orbital down to finer grit, or patch and sand. I used it on latex paints so far and gumming was not a problem, plus good life from each edge of the cutting bits (4)... if you counter sink any nails. Attching my shopvac made less to clean up! Also rough grain wood texture will be smooth flat when done, you may do some light sand blasting to match the texture or stick with chem/citrus strippers. Goggles recomened.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny
I bought this tool to take about 17 layers of paint off the cedar siding of my house. It works great! My choices were the Metabo, Porter Cable and The Paint Shaver (which was by far the most expensive). The Metabo was the only tool of the three not listed on eBay the day I purchased it.

This tool does a great job on siding and even facia and window casings. You need to be careful on softer wood like pine with this tool. It can easily take off the paint as well as a hefty slice of wood.

Be sure to purchase plenty of extra blades if you are taking off lots of old hardened paint. They will get dull, however you can turn the blades 180 degrees and use the other side before you have to replace them.

This tool is extremely loud. Be sure you have good ear protection. Also, it throws chips everywhere at high velocity. So good goggles and a dust mask or respirator will save you some agony.

Overall, for the money this is a great tool. I highly recommend it over manual scraping or liquid/paste strippers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Savings outweigh expense
I purchased the Metabo paint reomover about 2 months ago. I used it to remove about 6 layers of paint from the fascia boards on my house. This tool works amazingly well and is very easy to use. When all of the paint was removed, i gave the fascia boards a quick once over with a random orbit sander. When finished, the fascia boards looked brand new. One coat of primer and two top coats of paint and presto, my home looks great. Doing a thorough job in the first place prevents you from having to return and "fix" it in a couple of years.
Initially I was very skeptical of how this tool would work as well as the seemingly steep cost. I wondered how a hand held power tool the size of an angle grinder could cost sooo much. In the end, I feel this tool easily saved me money because a paint contractor would probably charge me a small fortune to take all of my homes fascia boards down to bare wood before repainting.
My home was built after paint containing lead was banned so I opted not to use the dust collection built into this tool. One gripe is that I broke one of the small tabs on one of the plastic blade covers within 2-3 hours of use. The plastic covers should be made more durable considering the cost of this tool.
If you are removing paint on a significant amount of wood or on a home with very much wood siding, I would suggest you purchase the extra 10 piece blade set ).
Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase of this tool. The tool was delivered in about 4-5 working days (as stated). ... Read more

I used this product to stain a buddy's fence and deck, finished in 4 hours what would have taken days to do with a brush or roller. 5-0 out of 5 stars So happy I now wish I had bought Fuji's top of the line
This HVLP is like my new best friend. This morning I sprayed 1/2 gallon of paint onto 25 kitchen cabinet doors (one side), in 2 hours including clean up. The finish is impeccable.

My only regret is that I didn't spend the extra $200 and buy the four turbine unit. A friend of mine recommended Fuji because he's been painting professionally with his for the last 13 years--no problems. His is the three turbine model, so I figured I didn't need anything more.

Only one complication: thinning. In order to shoot latex (I use Benjamin Moore Iron Clad Latex Enamel) you have to thin it. I have not been able to eliminate orange-peel with anything less than 20% thinning. And I'm not sure if this jeopardizes the integrity of the paint.

But otherwise, this sprayer will save you so much time it is ridiculous. Think what you can paint--cabinets, furniture, base board, molding, the cat.

The unit is quiet, and seems to be quality. It uses standardized turbines. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Removing layers of old paint from siding is never fun or easy, but Porter-Cable's power paint remover goes a long way toward making the task more tolerable--and a lot quicker. The tool uses a thin metal grinding disc spun between two easily adjustable guide rollers, so the user can remove paint without damaging the underlying wood. We found the tool relatively easy and comfortable to work with--certainly less tiring than trying to remove the same amount of paint using a regular sander. It does take a little time to get the guides adjusted right, but, once done, the tool really does work wonders. Adjusting one of the guides a little further in than the other, so paint is removed with only one edge of the disc, seemed to work quickest while producing the least amount of paint clogging on the disc. We also like that all adjustments to the power paint remover can be made without the use of additional tools and can be performed quickly. While this is a highly effective tool for its purpose, there are a couple of concerns to keep in mind. First, to avoid grinding the siding, make sure you have the guide adjustment set correctly before you go too far with the tool. Second, because this is basically a grinder, it will leave some small spin marks in the siding, and you'll generally have to go back over the wood with a random orbital sander to get a perfectly smooth finish. We also recommend getting a few extra discs, as they will clog, and it's nice to have a fresh one handy while the clogged disc soaks in solvents. In the end, though, this tool is a huge improvement over more common paint removal methods, like using a regular sander or scraping with a heat gun and putty knife. --Brian Trinen ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Porter Cable Power Paint Remover
After spending hours trying to remove layers on our 124 year old farm house, and after reading the reviews I purchased the Porter Cable Power Paint Remover. I used it today for the first time. Last weekend I spent six hours on one four sided pillar on the front porch. The process involved scraping and sanding with a high speed random orbital sander with 80 grit disk. This evening I used the Power Paint Remover on the next piller (total of five). The process took a total of about 15 minutes to have the entire pillar down to bear wood, unreal. I'm looking forward to tackling the rest of the house. I am sure that this unit will pay for itself just in the cost of the lumber that I was going to buy to replace old molding just because the paint was too thick and cracked. Now I am sure that I'll be able to just go down to the bear wood with no time or effort.

I had to stop shortly after starting to use this unit and run down to the hardware store to purchase a good quality dual filtered respirator mask, the unit puts out the removed paint big time in a very fine dusk. A good shop vac is needed to clean up afterwards. Safety goggles are a must. I love it. A big 5 STARS +++++

5-0 out of 5 stars Power Paint Remover saves the day.....
Restoring a 1875 Victorian has a true challenge. The outside of our house is lap siding (1"x8") and has not painted for over 20 years. After using everthing possible to remove the old finish including sanding, scraping and sand blasting, I tried the Porter Cable 7403P Power Paint. After a little work and finally reading the limited directions, I was able to remove numerous layers of paint with minimal effort. The final finish was perfect to apply a good primer coat before the final finish. The Power Paint Remover saved the day. Things to consider using the 7403P. 1)If sanding lead based paint, wear proper breathing equipment. 2)Keep the rpm's of the 7403P low so that the paint does not melt on the sanding disk, which is difficult at to remove. 3)Take your time..the 7403P is slightly heavy and working over your head is difficult. This is componded if you are working off a ladder.

With a little work, the 7403P is a very versitale piece of equipment and can handle a wide range of projects for both the professional and the amature.

4-0 out of 5 stars Also consider....
I haven't used this tool, okay? I have needed to remove multiple layers of paint from window sills and a garage door before, and am looking to do so soon again for a different house.
I am hoping to find a tool that can do paint removal better than what I've used so far. I thought I would post my experience here for others to learn from.
I've used a torch, heat gun, belt sander, finishing sander, and an air-powered dual-action disc sander. I just wanted to post that if you want light weight, the air-powered dual-action sander isn't bad. Use 50-grit sticky discs and plenty of compressed air (6hp and 230V is probably better. I used 4hp/120V and paused to allow the compressor to catch up.)
The torch makes for larger, less windblown rubbish, but is somewhat slower and when I got annoyed sometimes scorched the underlying wood.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rented it, now want it
ONLY PROBLEM is the weight!
I have been removing the paint from my 2 story, cedar shingled house with a 3 inch belt sander, part time since May (now August), with time off for an injury and the heat. Chemicals were too costly, ineffective and I did not want bad residue. I got 1 side done, some of another side, but the edge about 1 inch below each course was still left. Turning the sander sideways to get that area, killed belts FAST! The dust kicked up by the belt sander was terrible, going everywhere!!!!

I rented the 7403 for 4 hours. My results: tired arms, more paint removed and less wood eaten than the belt sander. This thing WORKS VERY WELL!!! It takes getting used to. So did the belt sander. It works MUCH FASTER (2 to 3 times) The rollers prevent gouging. It works better on flatter, harder surfaces. (My warped shingles are not as warped anymore) The areas where paint was sticking well to the wood went almost as fast with this as the areas with the paint flaking off.

I also found that it created MUCH LESS dust, that settled more directly to the ground. Belt sanding dust included wood that made it drift much further. Dust from the 7403, in a light breeze, was found to fly straight about 5 feet at ground level, drifting very little. The dust is denser. The particles fly faster off the work, ABSOLUTELY necessitating mask and goggles! Glasses were not enough at all.

Some paint buildup on the middle of the metal grinding pad, was easily removed when hot by fingers(with sander unplugged). The metal grinding pad distributes the heat evenly. It is cooler than belt sanding.

The belt sander will help to quickly touch up the light circular marks, once my skills are improved. There appear to be ways to adjust it to reduce the marks and/or making them go with the grain while maximizing the paint removal.

I am looking forward to impressing my friends and family with my new set of muscles! Big arm builder at 9+ pounds. I have to put this into my budget to finish by winter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Critical Instructions for use!!!
This machine works but is heavy, like other reviewers said. Myself and my coworker are each 6 foot tall men in good condition. We can barely put in 6 hours a day with the tool and that includes two half hour breaks to allow for muscles to stop spasming.
BUT--if used correctly, this tool does remove paint. It is slow, paint dust goes everywhere, and you must wear a respirator mask and a face shield.
Contrary to the instructions included with the tool--I found that the "cutting" side (leading edge) of the grinder needs to be set to about 1/16 inch lower than the grinding disc and the back side (trailing edge) needs to be about 1/16 of an inch TALLER than the total depth of the paint you are removing. In my case I am removing approximately 1/8 inch of paint (typical for an 80 year old house). Therefore the trailing edge of the grinder needs to be set at about 3/16 higher than the disc surface. The measurements are made by laying a straight edge (I use a square) across the disc and raising and lowering the black rails to the appropiate height.
Plan on using an inconspicious place on your house and practicing for about 2 or 3 hours until you get it right. Don't give up. My first day was very frustrating. Lots of clogging. At first I could only use the tool for about 10 seconds before it totally gummed up. Uggh. But with practice, clogging (gumming) is actually quite minimal when you find the right "angle of attack" for your application. Gumming usually occurs when you hold the grinder in one place too long or try to cut too deeply in one pass. You can't expect to realistically remove more than about 1/64 of an inch per pass, maybe even as little as 1/128 of an inch per pass. This equates to about 4-6 passes, sometimes up to 10 passes for severly cupped and warped wood. But this type of use allows for almost constant grinding with very little gumming. When the tool does gum up use a small, wooden-handled ice-pick to "pop" the gum chunks off of the grinding disc. A cleaning session takes about 1-2 minutes or even less. An occaissonal brushing with a wire brush helps prevent re-gumming on paint covered, problem spots on the disc. This techinique works so well that I only change the disc when the teeth wear down and stop cutting effectively (4-8 hours of use, depending). I have only soaked the discs in mineral spirits one time and generally find it unneccessary.
Beware--this tool pulvarizes the paint into a fine powder that goes everywhere. You will need ridiculous amounts of plastic drop cloths and bricks to hold them in place. Then you must sweep the powder at the end of each day. The amount that you collect is astounding. You can expect to collect about 10-20 gallons of paint powder from an average, 3BR/2Bath, one level home. This must be done for both legal and ethical reasons. Would you actually dump 10-20 gallons of lead and enamel paint into your yard?
In closing--this tool works great. It is a bear to use. You must use scaffolding. It is slow. Expect about three weeks of all day work to get your old house scraped and ready to prime. Buy lots of discs, about 10 for an average size house. Use only the 24 grit as the discs wear out and you need all the cutting power you can get. But beware as a new 24 grit disc cuts viciously and leaves severe swirl marks. But after about 10 minutes of use it wears down to a managable level.
If you can afford it--replace your siding. New poplar siding is about 15 cents a foot in the US. Materials for an average home would cost about $4,000. Plus lots of labor. Vinyl siding is usually a poor choice. It costs $5,000, looks fake, and causes wierd moisture issues between the vinyl and the old siding.
But if you, like me, have little money and lots of time--this is the tool for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Industry (Trade) standard
pretty much the standard now if you look around job sites. Now I know why. Very good investment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply ingenious!
This is the best, least labor intensive and most reasonably priced scaffolding system I have used. To get up 48 feet(max)5-6 stories, with a 20 foot width span, took me 20 minutes- to erect and pump up the two of us and 300 pounds of shingles. Think of the area (1,000 square feet!) you can work before you need to dismantle and move. And we often find it faster to wind down and pump back up for resupplying stock. My one recommendation is that even the 24 foot pole length should require an extra hand erecting. Very safe, secure and nicely made. Smooth as a baby's ... for increased flexibility, I would also recommend jumping in and getting the 12 foot poles right away.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of machinery!!
Well what can I say? This scaffolding is just incredible in its durability and reliability.

I suggest you go out an buy some for yourself not later but NOW!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
After reading the various other reviews I first contacted the Werner company and was informed that they no longer have a 16 ft 300 lb rated ladder. One of my neighbors has an articulated ladder from another company and noted that on one occasion he almost suffered an injury due to the locks not being fully engaged. The ClimbTek ladder lock system is better designed. An excellent choice given the nominal cost and at the time I ordered, free shipping.

5-0 out of 5 stars great buy for the price and quality
I found out about this climbtek ladder while searching for articulating ladder when I was always finding werner brand. I weight 160 pounds and 5'9" tall and can carry the ladder in folded position just by one hand. Its easy to manage and work with. you can pull the lever by one hand and 'click' works fine. The square steps provides secure standing. The only problem is does not lock in folded/storage position but that's ok. and yes this is the 300# while the werner is only 250#

strongly recommend to buy this if you can afford it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice ladder
I've gotten more use from this ladder than I had expected, including as a scaffold. Even when not in use as a ladder, I put it into the M shape with the center hinge unlocked and use it to store lumber in the garage. It's nice and sturdy, but my only complaints are that it's a bit heavy, I wish it included a stabilizer on the other end (for when its used as a scaffold and to go around windows as a ladder), and the scaffold platform boards. I use a hand truck to move it around while it's folded.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best Articulating Ladder
I compared this ladder to a copy at Home Depot. The Home Depot 16 ft model cost [money amount] + tax. The construction was not nearly as good, it had a two hand release (compared to one hand for Climbtek) for the articulations and was rated at 250 lbs. (compared to 300 for Climbtek). The ClimbTek costs a little more, but is a much better value.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best articulating ladder out there
This is the BEST folding ladder out there. Just the 1 handed release is enough to earn your purchase. I bought this when it was sold by Krause as a Multimatic (Krause went out of business...must have sold the patent) and use it all the time. This is pricier than the Krause, but NOT double! It is only 33% more than what I paid for it in 1996. The other reviewer must be comparing it to the smaller 12' Krause.

This is MUCH better than [my local store's]import. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Out of the box, this little ladder doesn't look like it's going anywhere. But start telescoping it and you almost can't believe your eyes. It extends to 12-1/2 feet from its closed height of 2-1/2 feet; plus, you can use the ladder in any of its 1-foot increments. Stainless-steel spring-loaded bolts inside the rungs lock into place as you extend the ladder. The rungs are made of processed aluminum, and serrated treads feel strong and secure under your feet. When you're done, you just tug on the locking rings, collapse the rungs down, and walk away with a 2-1/2-foot, 23-pound ladder under one arm. It takes virtually no space to store--put it under a bed, in a closet, in a car trunk--and totes anywhere. Clever as can be. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very handy ladder
We use this for satellite dish installation, and we are very pleased with its quality and durability. First we used the 10.5" version. However, we find the 12.5" version more useful. We highly recommend it to all of our dish installers. This is a light weight and easy to store ladder. No need to haul around long big ladders anymore. This will do for 90% of the jobs. Best regards Sadoun Satellite Sales

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality ladder in every way--But FOLLOW the instructions!
Like one of the reviews posted previously, I use the TeleSteps ladder for inspection. In that regard, it really has no equal; when it's all knocked down it is the smallest possible package in a quality ladder. When set up, it's a genuinely good 12 and 1/2 foot ladder. It's very light, sturdy and both well-thought out and made with a high degree of manufacturing quality.

Having said that, I will mirror what other reviewer state: If you don't read AND FOLLOW the instructions, you can/will find yourself in a bad place in a hurry. You must always start unstowing the ladder FROM the bottom, not the top (yes, they say you can start at the top if you're deploying it to the maximum extension. But I'd err on the side of conservative with this ladder). And at each rung, as you're raising it, two little detents pop into place. You must make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that these two little detents are LOCKED. Honestly, it might add up to a total of one whopping minute to make certain this is done, so in my opinion it's totally worth the time to ascertain that they have done so. If you do this, this is one nice ladder. If you get in a hurry, you may be in for a surprise. After reading the one reviewer that took a spill, I've gotten into the habit of double checking every detent, just to be sure.
If I had any suggestion for the Swedish manufacturer, it would be to somehow make the detents a bright safety red or something that would be visible, only when they're safely locked, so a user could easily see that the detents are adequately locked.
It's genuinely as 'high tech' a ladder as you can get and an godsend for inspection purposes. I can easily put it in the trunk of any car and the ability to selectively determine height is a handy feature. Highly recommended, extremely well made, but more than most products, one that absolutely requires you to read and follow the instructions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dreams do come true
A a building inspector I enter beautiful homes on a daily basis. This compact ladder permits me to take a clean ladder into the home for access to attic spaces and other areas. Stored inside my work vehicle there is no dirt to apologize for. Also I save time. I no longer have to tie a long cumbersome ladder to the roof of my vehicle. Compact, fast, lightweight and clean. The Telesteps telescoping ladder is all of these. Plus, it is one of the highest quality tools that I own. My only wish is that it was available in 16 foot length.

3-0 out of 5 stars USE WITH CAUTION
This is a great tool for limited applications. 1st - I wouldn't put more than about 200 lbs on it. 2nd - it is fine to get yourself onto a roof or into an attic, but it is not solid enough to work from. 3rd - you must follow the instructions in opening it, especially being sure that every section locks in place, or it will collapse under you (I've heard several stories of this happening). 4th - keep it well lubricated with silicone spray (I carry a silicone spray can with the ladder at all times). I have used it satisfactorily for about three years. If you recognize its limits and are willing to work within them, the ladder is very useful. If you expect more from it, you will be disappointed and could get hurt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
The best part of this ladder is how easy it is to get into tight spots. The second great thing is how peaple react to seeing me set it up. I would note that my model 106 10.5 foot ladder is most stable with a weight no greater than 180lb when fully extended. ... Read more

Very nice product to work with. Very sturdy and you can set it to exactly the height you want it to. My only problem is that it takes two people to set it up, or to adjust the height.

It's just all around conveinient to use for relatively low appplications, but can stack up to 3 high when out riggers are used(maximum 18' tall). Which is why I'm back at Amazon...I don't think they carry the out riggers. Also available in 8 and 10 foot lengths. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Hope you don't need parts
This is a reasonably nice product with abysmal documentation. I've used it with several different materials with success.

However, I'm preparing to spray some waterborne lacquer and the product manufacturer suggested a 1mm tip diameter. So I went looking for one.

I spent a half hour searching the documentation and Wagner's multiple web sites for replacement tips. The standard tip is a #3, so a reasonable person would think there must be a #1 and #2, but noooo, #3 is it. Not only that, a replacement #3 tip is $32 and the air cap is $59! Not surprising I suppose when they charge $1.99 for a 5-cent lock washer.

I'm retired from aerospace and a $600 toilet seat is looking like a real bargain.

If it weren't for the aforementioned problems, I would probably give this unit 4 or 5 stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent performance at a fair price
I should have purchased a sprayer years ago! I used to dread painting-especially intricate things like picket fences or railings. But this sprayer is convenient to use and easy to clean. I can now paint a 6-panel door in under 5 minutes when it used to take me 15-20 minutes with a brush. And I can clean up the sprayer faster than I could clean a roller or brush! Since it is an HVLP sprayer, overspray is very minimal compared to high pressure sprayers-minimal paint cloud. Plus it is quieter than my compressor. Wagner makes some smaller and cheaper HVLP sprayers that would probably be adequate for spraying stains and laquers, but for spraying latex paint I would get this model (paint still should be thinned). My only complaint is that the power cord is too short-only 6 ft. 10-12 feet would be much better for reaching outlets higher up on a wall. If you can afford it, get this machine-it makes painting easy, fast, and enjoyable when you see the smooth results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wagner 2600 Softspray review
I have been using the 2600 for a bunk bed project and have been extremely satisfied. It is very easy to use, adjust and clean. I have been using a water-based top coat and have not had to thin. The 2600 cleans up very quickly and reassembles easily (my 8 year son can put it back together). I have been getting a great finish. Doing four head boards by hand would have taken forever but this product has has made the project go much faster and easier. I am very happy with this product.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wagner 2600 gets a "Best Buy" rating
If you are looking for more information about HVLP sprayers, the July 2003 issue of American Woodworker has a product review of these tools. The bottom line? They rated the Wagner 2600 as the "Best Buy" of the 22 HVLP sprayers they looked at. See the article for details about why.

The same issue of AW also has an article on HVLP spray techniques. So when you find the owner's manual for the Wagner to be a little lacking on which gun adjustments to change for a particular spray problem, you can turn to this article for answers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good product
After checking out several models of HVLP sprayers I chose to go with the Wagner, I was not disapointed. The unit is not as loud as I thought it might be. The spraygun seems very well made and adjusts easly. The hose is light and easy to manage. The only disapointment is the manual. It tells you all the adjustments but not how to use them. No examples of what you should adj for which problems. Had the manual been better I would have given it a 5 star rating. ... Read more
