5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the money
I'm a cabinet shop owner and remodeler. We own several different power miter saws that we have the bench adapter fixture mounted to. I've looked at several of these types of units and found that though some may be an improvement, the prices were up there as well. I saw one out at the Anaheim Woodworking Fair that was pretty impressive but wasn't designed to fold up, throw in the back of you pickup and set up again in under 1 minute. The Stablemate is sturdy, easy to adjust the support heights over for one machine to the other and has a few good accessories you can buy seperately. In particular, the additional SM200 saw/bench rail adapters and SM650 tool shelf adapters are pretty important. The company wasn't too hard to find (IOWA Mancturing 1.800.882.4422 or Stablemateonline.com) after looking around the box for instructions for awhile. The Home Depot can even order the accessories for you. I really can't find any faults with this product considering there doesn't seem to be anything out there that can touch it in this price range.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice-Stable- Heavy Duty-Well Made-Assembly Instructions ??
When I first hear the UPS truck pull up outside, I looked out the window to see the female UPS driver really struggling with the rather small carton this item arrived in. Well she was not the only one struggling; when I picked up the carton I thought, "This thing is really heavy". But after I put it together for some reason it did not seam nearly as heavy as when it was in the carton. Anyway after I put the saw stand together I have to say, it's very stable, very well made, easy to move around, and very heavy duty. The only problem I had is that the assembly instructions were not the easiest to follow. All in all I think the item is just as advertised and a good value, I'm happy I purchased it. So if your looking for a compact and mobile miter saw stand that can handle heavy-duty construction use this is the one.

3-0 out of 5 stars heavy weight, much assembly required
This stand does what it's supposed to do- hold your miter saw and your material so you can focus on making cuts. These things it does well. With four adjustable height material supports instead of two, it is easy to keep material level while you cut. The material stop is great and the flip up fence handy. It is very heavy duty, which leads me to my problem- it is very heavy. I bought this saw for portability- it has wheels and looks like the Stablemate plus100, which my friend owns and is quite manageable. This stand when folded is fairly awkward to move and load, and with a saw mounted a real hassle by yourself. It is even a bit heavy to roll, and the little casters are very light duty. They will roll on a smooth surface, but any type of terrain will overwhelm them, including rolling over an extension cord. Also, there is an almost ridiculous amount of assembly required. I don't care how good you are with nuts and bolts and reading directions, putting this stand together will keep you busy for hours. It is non intuitive and labor intensive. This stand is reasonably priced, solidly constructed, and includes some nice features. However, if portability is your main concern, I would advise you to keep looking. If I was buying again, I would buy a lightweight and quickly folded saw stand, and buy and mount casters myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Luv it.
I'm a simple homeowner who enjoys working around the house. To this end, I try to collect quality tools that I feel will last. I've been researching miter saws and stands for a few months. After kicking the wheels and reading reviews, this was the winning stand for me. Yes, its heavy, but thats what makes it stable. Other tables could be wiggled and jiggled ; this thing sits like a rock. If there's a nuclear blast, two things will survive..the StableMate and the ninja mouse in my garage. My 10" Sliding Makita LS1013 sits securely on the two 18" rails, attached by 1/4" by 2 1/4" carriage bolts (supplied). With the saw on top, that leaves about 5/8" at each end of the rail. I'm impressed with the way the rails lock to the stand. There are two triangle brackets on the bottom of each rail. The brackets are about 3/4" wide. A screw in each rail (cranked from the front of the stand) pulls the triangular brackets against the stand frame at the front and rear making flush and square contact with the frame; Other stands had a simple screw bolt that came down at a single point against the frame...inadequate in my view. The four 12" riser supports do not turn, but thats fine with me; I'll be cutting light stock that will slide over them easily. The supports easily adjusted vertically to the level of the Makita table top (41 1/2" from ground level) with another inch to spare if I needed it. As advertised, when the arms are extended, the distance between the farthest supports is 106". The 3" wheels are hard plastic and do function. The stand rests on the legs; you have to tilt one end up to use the wheels. The legs fold up into the body, but I envision leaving it set up in the basement. I bought the beast at a local tool dealer. It was double boxed and in excellent condition. All the pieces were inside. The directions are adequate if you're patient. It took me a few hours to assemble in the kitchen with a socket wrench and screwdriver ... In all, I'm very satisfied...

4-0 out of 5 stars A good product but a couple drawbacks
I am very satisfied with the quality of this miter stand. It is heavy enough to be stable yet offers portability. I think this is an excellent product for the price. However, a couple drawbacks:

* It is not painted so the raw metal is susceptible to corrosion. It comes coated by some sort of oil or wax which I'm sure will wipe off over time so keeping the stand rust free will require ongoing diligence and effort.

* The instructions for assembly are really poor. It took me about four and a half hours. It's totally worth it in the end but you need patience and a long afternoon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Sharpening I ever had
Previous to spending 10 bucks for the Dremel Sharpening attachment, I was taking my chains to a professional to have them sharpened. It pays to follow the directions in setting up the sharpener correctly, but, once you do, you'll get the BEST sharpening job ever. My sharpening job with the sharpener was far superior to any of the sharpenings that I ever got from a professional. Plus, the professional guys ground an 1/8th inch or so off of the teeth each time they sharpened my chains, when, in fact, all they needed to do was to put a sharp edge on the teeth. The Dremel sharpener works magnificently and gives you a phenomenally sharp edge that will last a long time [as long as you keep your chain out of the dirt!] For the price of this product, it simply can't be beat.

3-0 out of 5 stars Instructions Incorrect!
When a chainsaw is sharpened, the sharpening tool is always referenced to the top of the cutting tooth (see the sharpening instructions from any saw chain manufacturer).

However, on Dremel attachment 1453, front of box, the picture shows the guide riding on the chain's depth gauge instead. Printed instructions on the back of the box (and supported with pictures) confirm this error for both left and right teeth.

To further confuse matters, the instruction sheet inside the box describes a method where the guide rides on top of the tooth for one side of the chain, but on top of the depth gauge for the other side! This is also incorrect, in addition to contradicting the instructions on the box.

Nonetheless, the device works adequately, especially if the user modifies the procedure to cause the guide to ride on top of the cutters for both sides of the chain.

In my opinion, this would become an excellent attachment if the instructions were rewritten, the pictures on the box replaced by correct ones, and the guide manufactured as a mirror image of the one presently sold. This would allow sharpening both sides from the non-engine side of the saw, thereby allowing two more teeth to be sharpened before chain repositioning. On an 18 inch bar this amounts to five rather than three teeth for left side cutters - a 67 percent improvement.

I have e-mailed Dremel with some of these observations, but received no reply!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Great!
I took a chance that this chainsaw sharpening attachment would do the job on my little Poulan electric chainsaw. It works great! Chains grow dull fairly quickly, particularly when you let the chain touch dirt. This little tool sharpens the chain like new and only takes a few minutes to get the sharpening job done. You can't go wrong. Dremel provides three different size sharpening stones that will accomodate most chains.

4-0 out of 5 stars Much easier than a file
This works much better than I thought it would. Accuracy is equivalent to a handheld file but it's a lot quicker and easier. I don't believe this fits the battery operated Dremel so you have to use it near a power source. Installation on the Dremel tool is vary easy. It takes maybe 15 seconds longer than changing a regular bit. If you have more than one size chainsaw, consider getting two. They are not expensive and you save having to set it up each time you switch saws. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Door Hinge Template
Good product. Saved me alot of time. I installed about 15 doors and the template held up well. However, the bit is quite dull now. I recommend using clamps vs the nails to avoid fixing the holes. If you have alot of doors to hange like I did, you can make an 'L' shaped insert for the jig to route the strike plate recess. One fault of the product is the directions aren't very clear, especially for the 1/4 radius hinges. To cut these, you flip the jig around and use square portion of the jig. This square corner creates a 1/4 radius because the router bit is 1/4 inch. Make sure you practice a few times so not to ruin a good door.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done
Give this template a four. Not meant for everyday use it's a little 'wobbly' when using a router bigger than 1 1/2 hp but gets the job done. For someone looking to put a few new doors up it's worth the price to get super clean mortises. Not well explained in the instructions is how to acheive a 1/4"' radial corner. The material shows how to do the 5/8" and a square. Maybe those smarter than me would instantly realize that a router bit like the one included could never cut a square but it took me a few minutes of scratching my head until I realized the square set up is the 1/4" set up too. You just chisel out the corners for the square.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hinges quick and easy
I'm a commercial carpenter and I have found this template quick and easy to use. It makes routing hinge mortises simple. A big time saver. ... Read more

This is definitely a handy little fella. It sure beats using regular sandpaper to try to take off the paint. The carbide grit stands up to quite a beating, even the occasional nail that is sticking through the siding on your house. And it doesn't gum up too much as long as you are taking off all of the paint in one pass. You can get these in 24 and 46 grit as well. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars For smaller size surfaces, this is fine
I had a body shop for 20 years. Did a lot of high end cars, and spent a lot of time behind a polisher. Now I am doing woodwork and need to get the same kind of results. The problem is that with woodwork, most of the time, you are working on smaller, intricate surfaces, as compared to the big flat panels on a car. Consquently a 2400 RMP polisher is not what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately 2400 RPMs is where mile deep gloss arrives. So what to do. I just ordered the Milwaukee variable speed 11 amp polisher. The speed range is 0-2800 with a pre set dial for fixing a setting, so I can slow it down for the delicate areas, and still maintain the option of cranking it up for the larger flat surfaces. I also purchased the hook and loop backing pad. That is where this Porter Cable wool pad comes in. It is difficult to tell just how much nap their is on a pad when ordering from a picture online. My old favorite is a super plush 7 inch tie on lambswool bonnet. By the time you wrap it around a backing pad, it makes for a larger edge than you would normally need for the intracacies of wood projects. That is where these Porter Cable hook and loop pads come in. The texture is very fine and smooth. Very thick and dense as well. The nap is only about 1/2" deep. That makes it very manageable for tight spaces. It is good for getting a lot of control when working up close to an ajoining surface. Using this pad on a random orbit sander is ok for a gentle rubbing effect. If you are planning on building a solid layer of finish, and polishing it to a deep gloss that is glasslike by using compounds, you will need a regular polisher. The nice thing about these Porter Cable polishing pads, is that they work with either type of machine, as long as they have a hook and loop backing pad.
All in all these Porter Cable pads, with their tight yet silky smooth nap, fill a niche for polishing that is very helpful. Hope this helps.

1-0 out of 5 stars Another piece of [stuff] from Porter-Cable
Porter-Cable makes bad accesories for their polisher, i washed the pad the the adhesive turned hard, theis makes polishing grinding. "The fine lambs wool polishes without harming the surface finish." what a load..... how can you wash the old wax off. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Give it a Try
This is more of a homeowner product. A professional carpenter or framer probably wouldn't need it and you can accomplish pretty much the same thing with a 12 inch speed square. This guide is made out of heavy steel and appears well made. I do have a concern that over time, and with use, the "friction" lock for the two legs will become less accurate from wear. The instructions were simple, but make sure you look at the back of the box since it is where the pictures are for the initial set up instructions. This item is "left hander" unfriendly (but so are a lot of things in life). I too had problems with clamp down of the product. This wouldn't be a problem with one of the newer style circular saws where the motor is on the right side of the blade. I'll get some use out of it, but not as much as I thought when I ordered it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy Gadget
I find this to be pretty handy for crosscutting. Only 10 inches of the guide actually rest on the wood, but it still does a good job on 1x12 shelving. Watch how you secure it. The first couple of times using the Cheeter with my Skil 5155 circular saw, the motor housing would come into contact with the hand I was using to brace the guide, causing a crooked cut and defeating the purpose. You'll do much better to clamp it down with a Quickgrip and leave both hands free for the saw. Worth the 15 bucks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great blades for sheet metal
These blades go great in my Bosch Progressor jig saw when its time to cut sheet metal. For this job, I always clamp the metal down to a piece of scrap plywood then cut through both metal and wood with one of these blades using a mid-range orbital action setting on the jigsaw. By going slow and careful, this produces clean and fast cuts in the sheet metal without the vibration and noise you get when not using a backing material. I wouldn't put anything but genuine Bosch blades in my Progressor jig saw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Did It

5-0 out of 5 stars An even quicker way to clean out the gum
Why wire-brush and icepick away at these bonded carbide disks? I've found a much quicker way to remove gum from the grit is to hold the machine VERY TIGHTLY and run the disk firmly over a rubber tire tread (scrap tire only, obviously). The only problem is the resulting smell, but hey, you're using the machine outdoors, right?

4-0 out of 5 stars How to clean this disc
Use an ice pick and a wire brush. Chip off the gummed up paint with the ice pick and then brush off the remaining paint. You don't even need to remove the disc from the machine. Keep your icepick handy.
Forget mineral spirits and soaking and changing discs all day. Just chip off the paint and get back to work.
Under heavy use the discs wear out in about 4-8 hours of use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best for paint removal
This is the best way to remove paint from the exterior of your house. The 24 grit is a must for removing multiple layers. I wish they were a bit more long-lasting (they dull too quickly). But there's nothing better available. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great practicality
I recently began using this attachment with my Dremel to create prescise lines at uniform depths. Using this attachment, I was able to achieve the results I was looking for. The variable depth is very helpful, but a little inaccurate. Still, I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a simple, but very helpful attachment for their Dremel.

You can control the tool very easy with this attachment and better of all is compatible with the RTX of Black & Decker.

4-0 out of 5 stars There to guide me...
Although this device is meant more for drywall cutting, I find it to be a useful tool when I'm cutting out narrow, shallow depressions in styrofoam for miniature landscape crafting. When I want to cut down to- and maintain- a specific depth, the guide lends me a really big assist.

Sadly, it's one of those accessories that require the use of collets, rather than a chuck, on the rotary tool. Not a really good thing when I'm constantly changing bits, and want to do it quickly. Oh well...

'Late!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Attachments out there
IF you were to see how cleanly this kit cuts through Drywall you would know how great this tool is. The cut is nice clean and straight. No wraggly cuts like with a saber saw or keyhole saw. We used it to cut the hole for the box while Mounting Ceiling fans in the Master Bedroom and Living Room of our house and it was Indispensable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Conveniance in Sandpaper
This 4 pack in PRECUT sandpaper is a great boon to the Performax 16-32 drum sander. The sandpaper easily locks in place at the right angle and perfectly rolls up on the drum sander to create the perfect sanding operation. Changing sandpaper grades is quick and simple with the precut sheets. The 100 grit is perfect for a medium finish with about a 1/64" stock removal per pass.

The precut paper is easy to work with, and quick changes when going from rough cut to final finish. With proper care and alignment, the paper last for several thousand board feet of sanding. If the paper becomes overlapped on the drum, it will create burn marks on the wood and weaken the paper on the overlapped edge, also reducing the productive life of the paper.

I'll spend the few bucks more and let Performax cut the sandpaper to the exact angles needed for perfect drum fit. ... Read more
